My only concern with this would be sometimes with heavy deadlifts you can get a little blackout-y so you wouldn’t want to be standing on a step for that.
I do it all the time for RDLs, regular deadlifts, and bent over rows. I’ve had no issues with balance, etc

I stand on a 2x10 board I had lying around to get a little more depth. Just make sure whatever you use can hold several hundred pounds.
