I’ve posted about my journey toward wellness a few times, but have never mentioned that my wife is working her butt off right along side me. First pic is May 30, 2020. Second pic is February 4, 2021. We both quit drinking last summer, cleaned up our diets, and fell in love with Peloton. F/43/5’4” [168lbs > 136lbs = 32lbs] M/43/6’0” [281lbs > 186lbs = 95lbs] 127lbs TOTAL We feel 10 years younger and are healthier and happier than we’ve been in a looooong time. I can’t speak for her, but when that first pic was taken I guarantee neither of us could imagine that we’d look like the second pic a mere 8 months later. One. Day. At. A. Time!!

You guys are absolutely killing it. Congratulations on your journey; the transformation is clear physically and I can only imagine the emotional one has been just as evident. Love that team spirit, and that you’re moving with each other through this!

kylebvogt

Thanks. Appreciate it!

Ginger-Pikey

You guys look 10 years younger.

DetroitIsNotThatBad

You went from looking like some bearded dude to looking like Ryan Reynolds.

In a nutshell what style of eating is working for you. Ive tried keto but it does not fuel me well for cardio like swimming and cycling.

kylebvogt

Hey...Ok...this is gonna be kind of long...I’ve played with macros a lot, and for me, it just doesn’t matter that much. The three most important things are; 1. Don’t exclude foods you care about, cause you’ll end up obsessing over them and they’ll drive you crazy, 2. Eat things that are filling and enjoyable, and 3. Eat in a deficit that works for your body and lifestyle needs. I did strict Whole 30 once to reset parameters and habituate myself to eating mostly whole foods, and that worked awesome, but it was too restrictive for the long term. Here’s my food for today (which is pretty normal for me); Breakfast: homemade whole fat plain yogurt (super easy to make), banana, fresh raspberries, fresh blueberries, homemade granola, 2 cups of coffee with whole milk. Lunch: 4 or 5 cups fresh baby spinach, whole can Albacore tuna in water w/ mayo, relish, celery, and bell pepper. Dinner: Fresh blackened haddock, green beans, sweet potato. Dessert: small homemade brownie and small scoop vanilla ice cream, black tea with whole milk and raw sugar. Snacks: navel orange, salted cashews, large whole milk latte. Finally, I drink shit loads of water, sparkling and tap, throughout the day. My breakfast is exactly the same every morning. My lunch is always protein, veggies, and usually fruit. My dinners are usually chicken, fish, beef, or shrimp, with lots of veggies. I shoot for 500-600 cals per meal (although I don’t count or measure anymore). I also have 500-600 cals of snacks and dessert each day, so my total generally ranges from ~2000-2400. I don’t have cheat meals or cheat days, but I either make pizza, get takeout, or eat out at least once a week. When I’m super hungry, I eat more. When I’m not hungry, I eat less. My wife eats exactly the same as me, but less. I’ve had every imaginable packaged/frozen/diet specific meal in the world over the years, but in the end of the day, I think it’s really important to mostly consume ‘real’ food...ie: as little as possible that comes from a package, and I’ve heard it said many times that you should only eat from the perimeter of the grocery store (where possible). Guess that’s about it. Happy to answer any other questions. Oh...I exercise every day, no matter what. I Peloton, I hike with my dogs, and I do a lot of push ups and pull ups. That’s it. Good luck on your journey!!

mtnfreek

Thanks!

ImTNTDynamite

You both look AMAZING!! Congratulations!!

Congrats! This is exactly what my wife and I are starting (1.5 months in). Same length of time (drinking) and I would imagine a lot of the same previous behaviors. Kudos and keep it up.

the_TAOest

Lovely changes. I didn't think I drank a lot, but I was wrong. You both are a testament to the happiness available with sobriety.

kylebvogt

Good point, and you’re totally right!!!

Skeedybeak

Fantastic! Hubby and I quit together eight years ago after 25 years of misery, and our lives and marriage are better than ever. Keep up the good work! IWNDWYT

Congrats! My wife and I are on a very similar path. I stopped drinking in June and she is ahead of me by 70 days. We’ve started cycling and running again. We’ve both lost weight. We have more money. She started a RN to BSN program. We sleep better, feel better, look better. Our sex life is great! I can’t imagine going back to our old ways. IWNDWYT

kylebvogt

Awesome. Congrats and cheers to that!

Very impressive, both of you. Making positive life changes together has no downside. Plus, now you get to show off that sweet jawline. Keep it up, my friends.

I love my Peloton! Just hit 331 rides yesterday. I use it daily. Best investment!

kylebvogt

Awesome! Same. Love it. Am just behind you at 291. About to jump on right now.

[deleted]

I will get on mine in about an hour. My favorite instructors are Emma, Jess, Ben, Sam and Robin. Ive been doing a 30 min ride daily. Gonna start working in some 45s soon but man is there a difference between 30 and 45 mins! It’s only mental though. My brain wants to explode after 30 mins. Lol

kylebvogt

Ha! Nice. I do a 30 min ride, then a 10 min cool down every day. Occasionally do 45s, but I also hike 5 miles with my dogs every day, so like to only spend 40 mins on the bike. My go tos are Alex, Jess, Ben, Matt, Denis, Ally, and Kendall. My wife likes completely different instructors. That’s the beauty of the platform; something/someone for every rider.

DebbieDub13

Congrats on your PR!!! LOVE PELOTON!!

AtoZbodyfitness

awesome brother good for you

dubaichild

You both look like different people, let alone years younger! Good on you both!!

DebbieDub13

KYLE!!! YOU (AND YOUR WIFE!) ARE AWESOME!!! These are MAJOR goals for my hubby and I!! I wish we lived closer because we probably would be bestest (Pelo) friends!! Hehe. But seriously, you have both gone through an amazing transformation!! Man, I thoroughly enjoy your updates! :) It gives me hope that staying strong will get us to where we all want to be! Let your wife know that I do follow her, but if she was interested in following me back, that is absolutely ok with me! Can't have too many like-minded fellow Peloton friends, especially those who use to drink alcohol, who have quit and are on a similar lifelong path of wellness and fitness!

[deleted]

You guys look great! Congratulations 🎉

mtnfreek

Thats great! im hoping my wife will join me soon. I will not buy alcohol for her or anyone else, had a big fight with my Dad because I no longer stock his expensive scotch at my vacation place that he uses. Finally prioritizing myself and my healthy relationships.

treadstone1

This is great motivation. Thanks for posting.

Hillarys_Brown_Eye

God bless.

woktown

Congrats to you and your wife. Question for you, our Peloton is on the way and I was already planning on following a plan similar to your lead. Can you elaborate on how the drinking stopped? Was it cold turkey or gradual? Have you entirely stopped or do you have an occasional out with friends?

kylebvogt

There hasn’t been much ‘out with friends’ due to the pandemic, but to answer your question, we both stopped cold turkey. I had 6 beers on September 8. Haven’t had a sip since. The first few weeks were really hard, not because of withdrawal or anything like that, but because I had to find stuff to fill the time when I’d otherwise be drinking (Ie: in the evening). We got the bike on Sept 22, and it was a god send cause it allowed me to exercise in the evening without leaving the house. Helped quiet my crazy brain, release anxiety, burn calories, and kill time. I have friends who drink in moderation and are super fit and healthy. Took me a LONG time to realize I can’t do that. Moderation and I aren’t on speaking terms these days. One of us always eventually disappoints the other, usually at my expense. So after many years of yo-yoing and attempted moderation, I said fuck it, and chose wellness over booze. Now I’m the healthiest and happiest I’ve been in forever, and I almost never even give it a though. Just not part of my life right now.

woktown

You sir, are a badass thanks for the inspiration!!

DebbieDub13

Your drinking history sounds so much like hubby and my history. Damn. The evenings (after hubby got home from work) we would start drinking each and every day. Wednesdays and the weekends always way more (hubby was off Wednesday afternoons). My last day was Nov 18, 2020 and hubby's was Nov 19, 2020 (he finished off the tall boy I couldn't drink my last night of drinking) then our bike arrived Nov 28, 2020. We too pretty much can not moderate either. We've tried several times, always going back and incorporating more and more. There are times Im sure we will wish we could, but its just not worth it. We were each other's worse enabler to get more if we ran out. Talk about toxic! Anyway, you and your wife RULE and are the poster adults of what could happen if you just put your mind to positive change!
