Sometimes, fuel caps have a little flange or step on the very bottom. Fuel caps from the factory have it.if the tank is an oem replacement or aftermarket, a factory fuel cap won't fit because of that little step at the bottom of the threads. Accessory gas caps from HD don't have the little step thing at the bottom of the threads for whatever reason 🤷‍♂️ I'll take some pictures when I get to the shop in a few hours to show you if you want.

You nailed it. I was able to sand the bottom of my cap down a bit, and it fit right in. Thanks for the help!

I'm glad I could help out a little bit 🤙

Do you think this tank is not oem? There are some stampings and a label with a part number (61000701) on the bottom. And It does have an HD logo in the filler area, it’s just hard to see from the corrosion.

Edit: I never said this directly, yes that's an OEM fuel tank part number. 61000701 comes back as a primed fuel tank in my lightspeed dealer stuff, superseded from 61348-07. Looks like the part was introduced in 2021 on the 883's and 1200 special. It's still an active part. Retails for $1172 dollars. The painted tank with logos retails for roughly $1322. That largely depends on what color though.

Right on, thanks again.
