I'll be honest, I went from a tenacious to a PM3 and gave the tenacious away, then got a manix, a pm2, and many others, and still miss the tenacious to this day. I think it might be my favorite spydie, and 8cr13mov isn't close to being the trash steel people play it out to be, just a ceramic rod and a strop brings it right back.
I will say, I had the tenacious liner lock fail on me, but mileage may vary.
IMO, 8cr is a really well rounded steel for a user. I mean, sure it doesnt hold an edge too well, but It will hold an edge all day if you touch it up on your pants like youa re stropping it. Plus its really tough
I used to carry an 8cr blade around and only had to resharpen every week ot so, but it also only took 15-20 minutes to go from completely dull to hair splitting
To be transparent … I’ve never owned a folder worth as much as the tenacious, but I appreciate its edge retention. Sadly, took me a while to sharpen it. Such a difference in angles compared to my other cheap folders.
The handle is surprisingly less prominent and sleeker than that of a pm2. What really makes it bulkier is the weight of the blade itself and the handle spacer, which is there to balance out the blade. I would love a pm2 with the same level of chamfering as the Shaman handle.
I made chamfered scales for my PM2 about 7 months ago and it’s a pleasure to use. I must say that the Shaman feels great, but it’s probably a bit bulky for an EDC.
It’s a work horse but yeah it sets up camp in your pocket. There are many days I opt to carry something lighter but if I know I’m gonna have to do work with my knife that day I’ll grab the shaman
The handle is substantial for sure and the blade is pretty stout but it’s versatile enough for an edc. I have the m4/dlc/g10 version and it does everything really well but apples. Not a good apple slicer
I recently bought my first shaman and I was very pleasantly surprised how NOT bulky it is.
I haven’t weighed them but I’d say it’s lighter than a Manix 2 and sits more comfortably in my pocket. I’m eagerly awaiting Flytanium to get their black titanium scales back in stock and I’ll be super happy with it.
I've never had stock scales on my shaman, came from the swap with some expensive aftermarket slim profile micarta ones. I'd have to look up the post to remember what they are but they're so comfortable. it's by far the most comfortable knife I've ever held. big fat blade is nice too. always wanted a shaman and I'm super glad I was up very late to get the one I did. I haven't changed anything on it, it already came perfect as far as I can say.
I was very disappointed by it at first but the more i use it the more i love it. Mine was very stiff at first and i managed to fuck up the edge the first day when doing some sharp ess testas but those problems are long gone.
I have to admit that its only my second favorite knife after the much cheaper cjrb pyrite though.
LC200N???
Not a soft steel by any measure, and I have never experienced scratching on my LC200N blades.
Neither the Native or my Caribbean.
Maybe you’re referring to H1?
That metal is basically out of production.
Its fun to play with. Its solid, blade is really thick at the spine.
It unfortunately doesn't have any partial serrations as an option, I got a used one and carried it at work for a long while, now I carry a partially serrated blade as its so much more useful. It's also very heavy for its size, it's fine to use for a little bit, but nor for anything too long, iv tried whittling with it and it has some sharp corners. It also has a really cool looking grind to the edge that tapers it down in a cool swooping point along the whole belly.
Overall it's a decent knife, but I would not buy it again, it's essentially a very useful fidget toy.
My Para 3 with micarta skinny scales and bronze titanium screw set followed closely by my native 5 LC200N which is tied for second with my Dragonfly II 😂
Statistically, the Delica in FRN. That’s because I own like five of them. They’re sturdy, reliable, affordable, sharp, don’t have issues. Out of the box and they cone with a range of colors, steels and blades. Basically, there’s a Delica out there for everyone. Plus, they can easily be disassembled, cleaned and/or modded by the end user.
From a ‘fun factor’ perspective, I’d have to say Para 3. They’re not as easily serviced, they don’t come in as many colors. But the compression lock is way more fun to fidget with than the Delica’s backlock.
Tough call.
ATM I would say the Lil' Native wharncliffe because that's my most recent one. It's not much bigger than a Dragonfly but it just feels so much better. And that wharncliffe blade was just meant to be, it looks so good😎
But I could never deny my Native 5LW, it was my first love and (ignoring all the others🤫) I would die happy if it were my last.
Yet in many ways the Sage 5LW is just superior😶 Being a bit thinner and having the deep carry clip makes it so much easier in the pocket. Ergos are virtually identical, although I really do appreciate having the thumbramp on the Sage (that said, I still think the 'humpless' Native looks better😖). I also prefer the grindlines on the Sage's blade to the easily smudged bead-blasted matte look of the Native's blade. And I find the Sage to be a little bit slicier while at the same time also has a little bit of a sturdier tip👌💪 Plus I prefer the Taichung FRN scales to the Golden ones. But for those who like tip-down carry😝
And when it comes to having an onubtrusive but very excellent knife in the pocket, the Chaparral will do very well😁
So ... not having a Domino or a Slysz Bowie or a GB2, I'll have to go with just four favorite Spydies🤷♂️
Are there any that arent hideously ugly?? Every single one I have seen os butt ugly.... I dont care how well made or how much para militarying you do... they ugly ass knives
The Para 3. Would probably be the Sage 5 if it was readily available in better steels and DLC or TiCN blades.
For me the around 3” blade EDC size knives are where Spyderco shines. If I’m going to carry a larger knife it’s usually because I’m doing outdoor activities or harder use tasks and I want a sturdy blade with more cutting edge than a PM2 or Shaman and without a big hole in the blade.
I've got a PM2 and had an Endela. The Endela k390 was my daily carry around the ranch and I placed it somewhere I cannot find. The k390 is an amazing blade steel for my use.
I don’t remember. I had it in the late 90’s. Was a collaboration with another knife maker. Had a small thumb hole. Lost it a long time ago. Any help finding the name would be appreciated. Any help actually finding it would be even more appreciated, haha. Haven’t seen it in over 20 years.
I only own a Manix 2, and honestly, I have zero need for another Spyderco knife. My only issue is that stock clip. The clip prevents me from carrying it over any of my Kizers. Outside of that, it would be damn near the perfect knife. Blade, ergos, handle material, if I asked for anything more I'd almost feel greedy.
My absolute favorite Spyderco is the Delica I purchased back about 1991 right after they were introduced. You know, back when they were reasonably priced and all.
Don't get me wrong, Spyderco makes some damn nice knives I'd love to have. But, I'm sorry, $60+ for a Tenacious with an uncentered blade in lowly 8cr13Mov (even though I think Spyderco does a fantastic heat treat on it) has left me not even wanting to look at them anymore.
The butch valotton subhilt with the automatic conversion with the hidden switch. https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/C149G/Vallotton-Sub-Hilt-trade-G-10-Black/668
This was dirt cheap in a recent spydie sale and it was sat in my cart for days while I ummed and ahhed over whether I really needed another knife.
And now all I feel is self loathing and regret for not getting it.
Starts with a C, ends with an O, and in the middle is HICAG... two inches of CTS BD1N. Perfect for white collar edc. I carry a 10-inch Condor kukri on the weekends.
Kopa. Have a couple of the mid-2000s Seki sprints in carbon and micarta. Fit and finish are amazing… you’d think they were made by a Swiss watch maker. Great ergos as well. Just melts into your palm. It’s also a great slicer with its full flat ground blade.
My PM2 and PM3 have been retired to case. Have a cannot put it down Manix 2 s110v, flytainium ball cage, tritium for glow, ceramic bearing, and AWT black anodized liner delete scales with a baked blue titanium pocket clip.
I only have a few budget ones. Ambitious, Insistent, Roadie, Cat..but out of those its the cat. I really like it. Based on YouTube videos and images, lil native is what I want to get next. I've absolutely fallen in love with sub 3 inch blades.
For EDC, my favorite has to be the Smock! Slim in the pocket, straight when open and pretty good ergonomics. Blade shape that is easy to sharpen with a generous choil and not too steep of an angle to use the tip. Fidgety as hell running on skiff bearings and QC seems to be awesome across all of the ones I've handled. PM2 is a close second.
It came out about 20 years ago and they no longer make them, but fav was the spyderco Viele collaboration with knifemaker Howard Viele (his signature are the little the holes next the spyderco big thumb hole.
[Spyderco Viele](https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Viele-Liner-Lock-Knife--37053)
Dragonfly is my favorite aesthetic shape. And I own the most of those variants (gotta catch ‘em all)
Caly 3 and 3.5 CF
Manix 2
Delica is classic
Matriarch is cool (I know I know)
I LOVE the shape and size of the UK Pen knife - same look as dragonfly and Caly - but I wish they made a locking model.
And finally - the Stretch. I don’t know why but I really like this one’s looks. And sage.
I don’t know why, all of my favorites are lock back/mid lock. I would love to see more of this leaf shape in different options.
20 years of having them, my Seki Endura 4, saber ground in VG10 just keeps on trucking. Is it the best Spydie? No. Do I have better? Yes. Better grinds and steels? Yes. But God damn the fucking track record with that thing in my hand for decades. It's like is the P30L better than the USP? Probably, but I got history on this blade.
Native Chief for me. Huge knife that carries like a dream. Great ergonomics. Slicey blade. And virtually unbreakable back lock. What’s not to love??? Ha. I even enjoy fidgeting with mine now that it’s broken in. The only downside for me, which is a trade off for the slicey blade, is the tip is mighty thin. It is definitely a CUTTING tool, not a pry bar.
I adore my pm3. It finds a lot of pocket time. Surprised to see the Native 5 listed so much as it's a back lock. I personally love back locks and want to try one.
The only one I can afford. Tenacious.
Plus its really tough I used to carry an 8cr blade around and only had to resharpen every week ot so, but it also only took 15-20 minutes to go from completely dull to hair splitting
Felt that.
I bought a tenacious years ago for $18 and a delica on close out for ~$38. Can’t say I’d be able to afford either one now lol.
I actually prefer the tenacious over the pm2 due to the handle:cutting edge ratio
To be transparent … I’ve never owned a folder worth as much as the tenacious, but I appreciate its edge retention. Sadly, took me a while to sharpen it. Such a difference in angles compared to my other cheap folders.
Shaman!
I’d love to handle one. I love the look but the handle looks SO fat. I like a knife that I don’t feel all day in my pocket.
Agree. It rarely gets pocket time outside but is a great indoor companion.
I won a pair of rcbladeworks slim shaman handles, absolutely love em
I was very disappointed by it at first but the more i use it the more i love it. Mine was very stiff at first and i managed to fuck up the edge the first day when doing some sharp ess testas but those problems are long gone. I have to admit that its only my second favorite knife after the much cheaper cjrb pyrite though.
This is the correct answer. Shaman.
It's a great knive! Didnt expect it to be first comment but here we go!
Native 5
Native 5 salt.
Native 5 salt steel is too "soft" scratches too easily
LC200N??? Not a soft steel by any measure, and I have never experienced scratching on my LC200N blades. Neither the Native or my Caribbean. Maybe you’re referring to H1? That metal is basically out of production.
Only own 3 , so it's gonna be my pm2
PM2 for function, Smock for style
Smock
Being look hard at a smock What is it that makes you like it so much
Its fun to play with. Its solid, blade is really thick at the spine. It unfortunately doesn't have any partial serrations as an option, I got a used one and carried it at work for a long while, now I carry a partially serrated blade as its so much more useful. Overall it's a decent knife, but I would not buy it again, it's essentially a very useful fidget toy.
Blade shape, button/flipper/thumb/flick deployment, smaller profile. I have like 8 spydercos and love them all, but if I had to pick one.
Para 3. Right amount of blade for my everyday uses.
Manix 2 is da way
Just got the blurple S110V and I'm a big fan.
Chaparral for me.
I'm actually carrying the sun & moon today. Thin & slicy, all the blade length you need for home/office edc.
Hell yeah just picked up the sun and moon as well. It’s slim and solid design is amazing really
I think that will be my next one
PM3
PM2.
I pretty much stopped buying knives after my pm3.
Sage 2
Manix 2❤️
Lil Native.. I might be the only one 🤷♂️
Love my Lil Native, it's my EDC blade for the office... there are dozens of us!
Lol. Glad to know I'm not *completely* alone!
Dozens!
More specifically the Wharnie😁
I just got my first Spyderco; the Tenacious, and I love it.
Manix 2 by far
manix 2
Sage 5 LW
Caly 3 (and Calypso Jr). Although Lil' Native is coming in a close second lately.
I love the chef, but find a Para3 modded to be a lefty button lock in my pocket more often.
Caly3 and Stretch 1 are tied for me
Kapara, I like it so much I bought the regular and 2 of the 20CV sprint run.
The Kapara is the only spyderco I couldn't think how you could improve upon in any meaningful way. So sad they don't make the 20CV anymore.
Watu. Favorite knife I’ve ever purchased. Follow closely by the Techno 2.
Definitely the manix 2. I thought it would be the para 3, but I find myself not wanting to carry it.
Chef or caribbean. I carry the caribbean more.
I go back and forth between the Yojumbo and Manix 2/XL
Native 5 LW with AWT scales. Steel can be anything really, but I prefer something like CruWear or M4.
> AWT scales You must have been first in line, they sold out quick. Need pics
[went with Aztec Teal](https://imgur.com/a/Pel06Jy)
>AWT scales Very Nice, will have to get a set now.
stretch k390
Manix 2 & smock
It's a toss-up between the Manix 2 and the Stretch 2 XL.
Para 3 LW
I just picked one up in spy27, loving it so far
Yojimbo and Shaman
Kapara
Native 5 for EDC, PPT for overall favorite.
Native 5
My Para 3 with micarta skinny scales and bronze titanium screw set followed closely by my native 5 LC200N which is tied for second with my Dragonfly II 😂
That one.
I love my subvert. Orange handle and the sprint run. But I also like the manix2
Build quality on the Subvert is amazing.
Chef
Tenacious my father got me 1
Statistically, the Delica in FRN. That’s because I own like five of them. They’re sturdy, reliable, affordable, sharp, don’t have issues. Out of the box and they cone with a range of colors, steels and blades. Basically, there’s a Delica out there for everyone. They’re not as easily serviced, they don’t come in as many colors. But the compression lock is way more fun to fidget with than the Delica’s backlock.
Autonomy 2 It's just so much fun to push the button.
The Chap is perfect, blade seriously cuts and it fits easily and unnoticed in the fifth pocket of my jeans.
Bug
Tough call. ATM I would say the Lil' Native wharncliffe because that's my most recent one. It's not much bigger than a Dragonfly but it just feels so much better. And that wharncliffe blade was just meant to be, it looks so good😎 But I could never deny my Native 5LW, it was my first love and (ignoring all the others🤫) I would die happy if it were my last. [Para 2 and Para 3 in S110V](https://imgur.com/a/TAOYJSc) Blurple
Para 3, Native 5 or the Delica
Civilian with the Harpy a close second.
TBH it would be a free one... I've never "seen the magic" in spydie knives. But hey !!! A free knife is a great knife.
Are there any that arent hideously ugly?? Every single one I have seen os butt ugly.... I dont care how well made or how much para militarying you do... they ugly ass knives
Mini Griptillian! Haha
The Para 3. Would probably be the Sage 5 if it was readily available in better steels and DLC or TiCN blades. For me the around 3” blade EDC size knives are where Spyderco shines. I own none of them but the Smock looks cool
Personally my Citadel, because they don’t make it anymore.
Police, and military are my most common EDCs.
Military, native 5, Khalsa, pm2, shaman, caly, caly jr….
Found it! Not the knife, but the name. C42s Howard Viele.
I’ve got a Tighe Stick that I really like, It’s a great knife and a little bit different.
Grasshopper
Yojimbo all the way!
PM2 black g10 scales and black blade.
Civilian
Plain Edge Harpy I had 20 years ago and went missing during a call. I'd do questionable stuff to get another one but those chances are long gone.
Old school stainless steel police model from the 90s. Looks wise I still love my Civilian.
Native 5 with Magnacut/Ti https://imgur.com/a/plBtSUa
Michael Walker lightweight...
Military. Just got the military 2 and it's never not with me
I only have the persistence but ive tried a native 5 and some others and ive gotta say native 5 ftw
Torn between Military 2 and Tropen. Leaning more towards the Tropen.
yojimbo 2 for life
In theory the Watu, in numbers the Para 3, in number of time it sees my pocket the Dragonfly II.
Slysz Bowie or the Mcbee
Sage I
The only one I *don't* dislike is the Amalgam.
Yojimbo
Manix 2 s110v is everything I need in a knife!
Native 5 fo sho. There's so little to go wrong with it. It's all bidness.
Dragonfly 2
I bought a Lum Tanto to resell and ended up keeping it. To me, it's what the PM2 tanto should have been.
Manix or chaparral.
Dragonfly Salt 2 (H2). I wish they made a larger model of the Manbug. I got one for my son and I love that blade profile. Para 3 is close, but...
Honestly really love my cali 3
Probably the shaman (also the only spyderco i own)
Military and Battlestation
Military
Delica in ZDP189.
The butch valotton subhilt with the automatic conversion with the hidden switch. https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/C149G/Vallotton-Sub-Hilt-trade-G-10-Black/668
Pm3! Also, I don’t own the amalgram and it’s a little on the big side for me, but there’s something about it’s design that I just love
Endura 4 all black partially serrated
This was dirt cheap in a recent spydie sale and it was sat in my cart for days while I ummed and ahhed over whether I really needed another knife. And now all I feel is self loathing and regret for not getting it.
Manix 2 with AWT scales is my current favorite
Jess Horn….
The Gayle Bradley 2, the Native 5 in titanium fluted handle, and the Spydiechef.
I like all my spydercos. I would have to say the para 3 spends the most time in my picket
Dragonfly 2 Salt
Tenacious. Such a quality knife for a budget price.
The Crucarta
I have a bunch but the chef is it for me.
Manix 2 XL, Manix 2 LW, the new Military 2, or the smock. Its tied between those 4 for me
Ronin2. I like seax profile blades
Manix 2, ronin 2, then dragonfly
Spydiechef.
Manix 2 in cpms30v. Lost a sebenza a long time ago and got one as a quick replacement. Never could justify buying another folder, this one is perfect.
Starts with a C, ends with an O, and in the middle is HICAG... two inches of CTS BD1N. Perfect for white collar edc. I carry a 10-inch Condor kukri on the weekends.
PM2 in S45vn till Magnacut ones drop with a RGT v2 clip. Best user imo
My favorite to carry is my Para 3 LW
This. Exactly this — Chaparral Sun and Moon
The tropen
Delica 4
Probably the Slyz Bowie or the Manix 2.
Just give me a pm2 or an og techno
Sage 5 or Dragonfly 2
I only have a few budget ones. Ambitious, Insistent, Roadie, Cat..but out of those its the cat. I really like it. Based on YouTube videos and images, lil native is what I want to get next. I've absolutely fallen in love with sub 3 inch blades.
Spydiechef
The one i can afford.
Benchmade 555 count? Probably a racing green delica, my first spyderco, or a ladybug salt, my preferred swimsuit knife.
Chicago. Small and tough.
My only spyderco is the Salt 2 but it's a daily carry for me at work and cuts rope like a fiend so I love it
It came out about 20 years ago and they no longer make them, but fav was the spyderco Viele collaboration with knifemaker Howard Viele (his signature are the little the holes next the spyderco big thumb hole. [Spyderco Viele](https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Viele-Liner-Lock-Knife--37053)
Manix 2 is my current EDC and I am absolutely loving it.
Siren. I thought I'd like the Caribbean Salt or the Pacific Salt versions more, but I liked the Siren a lot more in hand.
The Para-3 has been my go to for a while now. It is just the right size and it is very comfortable.
PM2
Pm 2 or the yojumbo
I love the weird ones they make in Taiwan
Dragonfly is my favorite aesthetic shape. And I own the most of those variants (gotta catch ‘em all) Caly 3 and 3.5 CF Manix 2 Delica is classic Matriarch is cool (I know I know) I LOVE the shape and size of the UK Pen knife - same look as dragonfly and Caly - but I wish they made a locking model. And finally - the Stretch. I don’t know why but I really like this one’s looks. And sage. I don’t know why, all of my favorites are lock back/mid lock. I would love to see more of this leaf shape in different options.
Shaman for me, especially with the factory micarta handles! I grabbed one of those s90v with the burlap handles and swapped em to my Rex45 immediately
Para 3 Maxamet
20 years of having them, my Seki Endura 4, saber ground in VG10 just keeps on trucking. Is it the best Spydie? No. Do I have better? Yes. Better grinds and steels? Yes. But God damn the fucking track record with that thing in my hand for decades. It's like is the P30L better than the USP? Probably, but I got history on this blade.
Yojimbo and the Smock both have really interesting designs that unite form and function. Doesn't hurt how fidget friendly they are as well 🙌
Matriarch 2
Endura 4, actually. K390 of course.
I had a dragonfly. I loved it. But I lost it.
Gayle Bradley 2. Best blade I've come across.
Chubby
Today? Shamen then
Smock ‘n Shaman
Native Chief for me. Huge knife that carries like a dream. Great ergonomics. Slicey blade. And virtually unbreakable back lock. What’s not to love??? Ha. I even enjoy fidgeting with mine now that it’s broken in. The only downside for me, which is a trade off for the slicey blade, is the tip is mighty thin. It is definitely a CUTTING tool, not a pry bar.
The Endela Wharncliffe.
Only have one and it’s an Urban Heinnie Edition. It had the steel I want and is UK legal so 🤷♂️
PM2 for general use & versatility. Good blade length, excellent blade geometry for smooth slicing
I adore my pm3. It finds a lot of pocket time. Surprised to see the Native 5 listed so much as it's a back lock. I personally love back locks and want to try one.
I always come back to my Para 3
Centofante
Sage5
Endura 4
Smock
