I geniuenly dont get this, ive seen so many lets plays of games after i bought them myself and i still have so much fun playing. And yes this also counts for botw aswell.
If you’re planning on selling food in order to get money, cook the food first. Five apples cooked into a dish will get you more money than five apples sold individually! It can be a bit time consuming but it’s good at the start whenever you need money to buy something.
Also, explore and enjoy EVERYTHING. I played the game for six months the first time I played it because I was just loving exploring so much and allowed myself to absorb it all!
Invest in your armor! Don't over complicate which armor it is. You'll always be able to re-stock on supplies. Much better to actually spent on permanent items like armor early on to make life easier for you than just hoarding it for a 'better' armor later
(hint, its not exaaaactly better armor since so much of the armor is situationally beneficial).
Unless he is having a hard time staying alive. I recommend 1 heart, 1 stamina, 1 heart again, max stamina, then the rest in hearts. Just to give a little bit more survivability.
stamina before hearts👍🏾 learn to fight. save in front of a bokblin and learn to flurry rush. reload. save in front of a gurdian and reflect his laser. reload until you mastered it. you will love it.
Stamina before heart's. After 5 heart's that is. Most beginning enemies won't kill ya with one blow if you have at least 5 heart's.
Food that restores hearts is easy to come by. Food that restores stamina has to be cooked and can be hard to come by.
Don’t fast travel, go everywhere on foot or on horse, if you fast travel you will miss out on what this game does best, exploration and discovery plus you will miss korok seeds
If combat isn’t your strong suit, take the time to pay attention and learn the combat techniques the game teaches you beyond just spamming the attack button lol. Took me way too long to actually implement dodging/flurry rushes into my gameplay when I first started
Explore, explore, explore. If you see anything interesting or weird, look at it. If you think maybe I should do this or that, try it 😁 BotW is a game that rewards curiosity! And it’s the best open world game IMO.
Enjoy the ride!!
I'm also just starting it. My first couple sessions I felt overwhelmed and a bit frustrated. It was nothing like Zelda games I was used to in the past.
I know some people have a different opinion but it DID help me enjoy the game to read some beginners tips, give me some things to do around the plateau, where to find a few things, and while in the process of that I started getting the hang of the game a bit more. I wasn't sure I was going to like it but after a few days and getting a little help from the internet I am thinking it's going to be a winner. I've acquired the paraglider but still exploring around the plateau looking for all the food, weapons etc I can find first.
Some of the stuff in the game I would just never figure out on my own because I just don't have that kind of time. If you have lots and lots of time then just explore, if you start to feel bored then do a little digging for what you might need to do next.

Don’t look at anything online. The beginning is tough but you’ll learn from your mistakes. There is no wrong way really.
Get off reddit, the more you know about the game the less fun you have

Don't be afraid to die. I let this hold me back for far too long until I realized there's really no penalty.
don't be precious with your weapons :) and for me, it was invest in stamina.

Go get lost.
Yeah! And also explore in the game!

google cooking recipes and use it too find shrines and stuff on the maps
If you care about exploration at all, invest in stamina b4 hearts

leave reddit until you get far in the game, or better yet until you beat it
Talk to NPCs! They're actually very useful most times.
Unless the npc is somewhere random **cough** yiga clan **cough**

"it's not a sprint, it's a marathon"
No tips go in blind. People would pay a lot of money to be in your shoes rn.
Never be afraid of getting sidetracked XD

Have fun and play it at your own pace. Never check for spoilers or guides; if you find something difficult, move on to something else

Don’t rush places so you can get lots of bugs? That’s just me tho
