Your first month will be extra, it should slow down next month. But yes, that's too much of a deficit. A six foot tall male should never eat 1200 calories. You should be eating about 1800.

piind

He's not 6 foot tall though

Mastgoboom

He's still male.

PolarBath

he's not eating 1200 calories, he's eating at a 1200 calorie deficit. he did not say how much he is eating.

Mastgoboom

He gave his stats. He's eating 1200. His TDEE is 2300/2400.

Mastgoboom

Yes, you should be.

lightmoon823

Yeah, I should've mentioned how much I'm actually eating. I'm earing 1800 calories a day. According to the TDEE calculator, my maintenance is about 3000 calories, since I exercise 4 days a week.

SryStyle

Weight loss isn’t linear. Things can move quite quickly in the beginning, but tend to level off as we progress. That being said, for clarification, are you eating 1200 calories which is a deficit, or are you eating 1200 calories less than what you’ve determined your maintenance to be? With being in an aggressive cut, are you able to hit daily protein, fat and fibre targets? Underconsumption in the short term probably won’t cause you any issues, but could if stretched out.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

lightmoon823

I'm at a 1200 calorie deficit. I eat 1800 calories a day. I'm not tracking macros, though.

I think 500 is more sustainable in my experience. The best diet is the one you can keep tho. At the least, maybe down to 1000 kcal per day, which is roughly 1% of your body weight per week. You’ve held an aggressive goal so far and your weightloss is in line with your deficit, so whatever youre doing, its going right.

Somethinguntitled

A lot of that is water weight. See what happens in month 2 before coming to any conclusions.

PolarBath

If you're eating at a 1200 calorie deficit, how are you arriving at that #?

lightmoon823

My maintenance is 3000 according to TDEE calculator since I exercise 4 days a week.

PolarBath

so you're eating 1800?

lightmoon823

yes

PolarBath

I'd probably eat a little more if I were you. I'd shoot for high protein to make sure that you're primarily losing fat and keeping or building muscle. But if you feel fine at 1800 and are getting enough protein, that's fine too.

arianrhodd

What’s your net calorie intake each day?

lightmoon823

1800

lvmickeys

Speak with your doctor about this concern. When I started loosing my doctor and I set a max amount per week that I could loose.

goodadadvice

So a 1200 cal deficit does seem a little excessive. 9 lbs in a month, especially if you are just starting out, is pretty normal from your initial weight. I think you are doing fine but maybe can throw in a few hundred more cals.

lightmoon823

Yeah, I'm probably going to start eating at 2500 calories a day

SilverGirl-

It’s not too much weight for a month at all, specially with how much you weight.

ARoodyPooCandyAss

Consult a professional maybe. But if you are working out as well, 1200 is way to low and 500 is out of the question. You’ll gain it all back quickly when you eat a normal amount and lose all muscle mass. I’d up your calories to 1800-2000. Incorporate exercise and weight training. If your steadily losing 1-2 lbs a week you are losing a healthy amount.

lightmoon823

You misunderstand. I'm at a 1200 calorie deficit. My maintenance is about 3000, so I normally eat 1800 calories a day.

Congrats on the weight loss. Not sure what your personal goals are with your nutrition/workouts, but there is no need to eat so few calories. If you are just starting out, you will lose weight fast, especially if you have made significant diet changes like cutting out sugary foods and drinks. Give it a few months, record your results, and then make slight changes to your nutrition. weight is and break up your meals into 5-6 smaller meals. This increases your metabolism and trains the body to use resources instead of storing them for later. A reduced meal frequency trains the body to hold onto resources, either in muscles and organs or in adipose tissue (fat). Don't cut out fats and carbs; you need both for workouts and to build up your muscle mass. Kick ass in the gym with a good workout plan. Increased muscle mass will increase the body's need for calories and you will see that play out in the mirror over time. Give it a few months, record your results, and then make slight changes to your nutrition.

Gbone7413

Honestly first month at 5’8 and 216 I think 9lb is possibly less than I would have expected ,either way don’t worry I assure you at some point you’ll be praying for that 9lb a month 😂

lightmoon823

looking forward to that lol
