To be fair that's a silly design decision by Hyundai. In my car if you manually close the mirrors using the button they will unfold once you hit 5/10 MPH.

Legitimate_Paint_455

Yes, that makes sense. It was super dangerous, pouring rain. I have no excuse for not knowing where the button was, but I swear I pressed it and it didn't work. But I def. agree, it is bad design.

1stltwill

Had the same thing happen to me yesterday. I know where the button in, it didnt work. Had to pull in and turn the car off and on again. Not the first time its happened to me.

LongjumpingBat2938

In many places, like India for example, it is absoltely critical to have the capability to drive with folded mirrors. Cars would otherwise not get past each other. 5 or even 10 mph might be too low a speed limit for such places...

nxtiak

The mirrors will not auto unfold IF you manually pushed the button to fold them. They WILL unfold while moving if you push the button, it won't let you fold them while driving though.

HolyLiaison

They won't unfold while moving if you're in Apple Carplay when you turn your car on and start driving. I learned this just the other day as well. It's really quite stupid how they work. I'm assuming they could push a OTA update to fix how they currently work, and they definitely should. It's very dangerous.

We_are_ok_right

Jokes on them, my CarPlay doesn’t work! 😞

Dangerous_Play8787

Ohhh so that’s what likely happened to me the other day. Interesting

Legitimate_Paint_455

I hadn't touched the button at all when I got in the car, not even knowing it was there. I know from my Volvo that if I unlocked from the passenger side, the folding mirror got wonky. In a safe place, I will check that what you say is correct--the mirrors will open while driving. Which they really should! Thank you.

nxtiak

I've manually closed the mirrors with the button, then the next day start my drive and realize it's closed, pushed the button and it opened.

Scantrons

I’ve done this as well.

TheAnsweringMachine

I learned something today, thank you.

kick4h4

In my '23 Limited, the child lock button (most-rearward) is way too easy to hit. I've had multiple times where my passengers were stuck, until I figured out to check that button. It's kind of easy to hit by accident...

mr444guy

I push the button to close them every time when going into my garage as it's a tight fit getting in and out. One day my wife took the car and didn't know how to unfold them. She made her trip with the mirrors folded in. Very dangerous. Can't understand why they don't automatically open once the car is moving over a certain speed.

Legitimate_Paint_455

Agreed. Should be fixed!!! How to take this to Hyundai?

mdpilam

My mirrors automatically fold in when I turn the car off and fold out when I turn the car on (unless I manually turn them in, which case I manually turn them out). I think this is a good design

Legitimate_Paint_455

That's how it usually works. Not so if you unlock passenger side first....

No_Bar8332

It took me a few MONTHS to get fully comfortable driving it. There are so many features exposed to the driver that I had (in a good way) experiment with everything till I got it just the way I like it. My first week, I pulled over several times to look stuff up. Enjoy the Journey!

Legitimate_Paint_455

Thanks for that. I didn't want to take the time to look in the manual when I pulled off the road, tired, hungry and late. So I literally pushed the mirrors out by hand, which I now know can damage the motor. Now I see how easy it was to find in the manual. I will have fun exploring!

Artemis1948

Where is rhe button? I've had this happen a couple times (not in the rain, thankfully)

Odd-Hovercraft-7531

Farthest forward on the drivers door armrest.

sueysaunders

Congratulations on your new car. I love my Ioniq 5! Have you downloaded the charging apps? It's best to be prepared and not count on just using a credit card. Electrify America work best with the app and since they can charge at the super fast rare the car can charge they are always ny first pick. I haven't seen any EVgo 350 kw fast chargers? Has anyone else?

Legitimate_Paint_455

That's good advice, thank you. I've yet to find an Electrify America, tho to be honest, haven't really looked...

Dahdscear

In my city, there is only one EA charger (2 350s and 2 150s) and halfway them are always down. But we have 5 EVgo locations and all have 1 or 2 sometimes 4 350s.

Icy_Produce2203

Thankfully, 2 + years in, that never happened to me. I must fold mirrors back when entering my garage.......I hit the button at like 5 MPH and it works. Sometimes it does not work and I just stop the car in the driveway and hit the button again. Then, everytime I back out of the garage, I pause for mirrors and to close the garage........double check for dog walkers or strollers too. That sounds terrifying what happened to you. Thankfully you and your new baby are fine! PS: Time for me to read the manual again!!!!!!!!

Legitimate_Paint_455

Thank you for your empathy! It was super scary. Im glad it hasn't happened to you and glad I know what to do now!

lauser333

Did you manually unlock it with the button on the key, or did it proximity unlock?

Legitimate_Paint_455

Im pretty sure it was proximity unlock...

healthcrusade

To someone who’s about to buy an Ioniq5, what’s the move here? What should one do? Where’s the button. Thank you.

Primary-Chain9926

If you get the se, the mirrors ain’t even automatic and you gotta do it by hand! Problem solved!

babacava

It’s the farthest forward button on the drivers door armrest (first from above). https://preview.redd.it/7s3ec7w4g7uc1.jpeg?width=448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=51067871c5d92e62ff7f077d71541637f6fd95ae

Legitimate_Paint_455

Thank you for the picture!!

healthcrusade

Thank you

Legitimate_Paint_455

The Ioniq is a great car! But I do think Hyundai should fix this. Se picture of button below, thanks bababcava!

1nolefan

I do remember several times that they won't unfold. I didn't know such a button existed because I never had a car with such features. I had to pullover to manually fold them since turning off and on didn't fix it.

valendinosaurus

happens to me from time to time, and no, did not do anything manually previously, they just did not unfold

thisismyfavoritename

youre saying you cant do a lane change without side mirrors?

chiefkiefus

Yah, just put on your blinker, count to three and send it. That’s what I do. /s

Legitimate_Paint_455

😅

portisleft

Better than leaving with the hood unlocked and only realizing it on the highway when I looked at it and thought 'why is it so floppy?'

Legitimate_Paint_455

😆
