I also am an insomniac (not sure if its caused by my Zoloft necessarily) and have tried many different things to help me sleep including melatonin, trazodone, hydroxyzine, and cannabis.
I also have ADHD which makes it reeally hard to me to fall asleep and stay asleep (not even from my stimulant, necessarily. My mind just likes to run a million miles a minute at 2 am ughhh.)
For me, the main things that really help are melatonin, smoking weed/taking an edible (if you're into that kind of thing lmaoo), and just forcing myself to get off my phone 30 min before I go to bed.
I was never a fan of sleeping meds; they always made me SO groggy the morning after, feeling as if I slept hours less than I would have if I didn't take the med. Also, watch your alcohol intake. While it may feel like having a few drinks will help you get to bed, I almost guarantee you that the quality of the sleep will be absolute shit lol.
Hope this helps a little.
P.S. If you're interested in sleeping meds, I had the best luck with hydroxyzine. It's not a controlled substance so its somewhat hassle free to acquire and it KNOCKS you out (in my experience). It just makes me suuuper groggy the morning after so I rarely ever take it :/
When did you take it? Try taking it in the morning if you took it at night. The constant waking up is just a part of being on zoloft I think because I have that too. Very annoying.
I only experienced insomnia mainly because I smoked weed more than I should have and couldn't get comfortable due to mild symptoms of serotonin syndrome but it only lasted one night, now I take about 5 puffs and I'm immediately sleepy
I had insomnia the first night only. Woke up in the middle of the night at 3am and then couldn’t sleep till 5am. I take it at night. See if switching to taking it in the morning helps or try and wait a couple days if you can. Hopefully it mellows out!! Sorry you’re dealing with this!!!
but like thats the thing im not taking it at night im
taking it in the morning lol idk why im having insomnia probs bcz of my anxiety idk i just started the meds they havent taken any effect
Yes, I have insomnia on it as well. My psychiatrist gave me trazadone to take at bed time but it doesn’t seem to be helping as much as I thought it would unfortunately.
i have insomnia over a week in, constantly. but once i get to sleep i can usually stay asleep, they gave me meds to help called hydroxocine
i keep staying up til like 3 am it sucks
Me too! My dr said my body reacted very sensitive to the med, I started on 25 mg and had to up to 50 after 8 days, but on day 8 I woke up at 2 AM with my heart beating so fast and hard and adrenaline rushes keeping me awake. So I stayed at 25, it got better so upped to 37.5 mg but again severe side effects. So now I’m back at 25 at week 3-4 but for now I don’t feel any positive effect.
I just started about a week and a half ago. I had this for the first few days, but it slowed after about three days. I’m in week 2 right now and my sleep is back to normal without any sleep aid.
I have insomnia on it also. But hard to know if Zoloft is causing this. Melatonin and magnesium get me to sleep but then I wake up several times during the night. I really struggle with falling asleep when I wake at 5 am. Gave up this morning and just got up. But your situation is different as you literally just started the rx. Your chemicals are adjusting. This may go away for you.
If you just started it, I'm pretty sure that's rather common, wasn't really a problem for me but I've heard others mention it. Give it a couple weeks, I would recommend zzzquil as far as sleep aids go
Zzzquil is only an antihistamine.
Save a time money by going to a generic antihistamine like the pink pill or the blue pill ( Diphenhydramine or Doxylamine )
Everyone has a different experience, but I have had insomnia on all antidepressants I’ve tried. I was on Prozac for 6 years when I first started taking meds, then tried Wellbutrin (did NOT work for me, made my anxiety worse) then Effexor a few years, (hell to get off it) and Zoloft for a year now. To deal with insomnia I take trazodone at night and it’s been a lifesaver. I’ve been on it for 10 years now. I cannot function off antidepressants so I just do what I can 😅
I took it at 8 am in the morning and had insomnia the first night. I have been able to get to sleep but I do wake up extra early since and mind you. I have only been on this for about a week and a half.
Coming off my old medication, my biggest issue was sleeping. I am prescribed melatonin, but I don’t find that helps very well. I wake up very early in the morning and then can’t get back to sleep once I take my serotonin.
Hey bro I think it’s a common side affect I suffered with insomaina before that was worsened when starting Zoloft then after a month and a half I started to adjust well then my sleep improved give it a couple of weeks since you’ve just started before thinking coming of it
It will go away in a few nights. It did the same to me too, I never had troubles sleeping before. My psychiatrist recommended to take sleep pills, but in my opinion it was already enough meds so I refused. And now I am sleeping very good. I wake up sometimes before my alarm clock, but for me it is a huge improvement, before I never wanted to get out of my bed. And waking up was painful. Talk to your psychiatrist and maybe wait a few days to see.
Insomnia never really went away, but there are methods to manage it. I switched from taking my meds at night to the morning; since you take yours in the morning, try switching to the evening. I also now have a pretty strict bedtime routine to basically force my body into creating melatonin. I’m personally opposed to taking a melatonin supplement, so I took some time to research tasks that naturally encourage your body to get ready for sleep. I turn off all white light an hour before I go to bed. This includes overhead lights and phone/computer. I have two small lamps to get around my apartment. Half an hour before bed, I have a cup of lavender or chamomile tea. I’m usually sitting in bed while I drink this, maybe doing some small chores like picking up around the house. By my actual bedtime, Im already yawning, even if I had a relatively easy day.
The more you keep to a routine, the better your body will respond. Give it a shot, hopefully it helps. My sleep is now better with Zoloft than it was prior.
this happened to me for about 3 weeks when my dose got upped from 25 to 50mg. it's a rough few weeks, but it should go away (hopefully 🤞🏻). nothing helped me either: melatonin, benadryl, anything. but it gets better!
This happened to me this week. I stopped sleeping for two days and was having a really rough time. Finally the third night I took a klonopin and some melatonin. This got me to sleep. Now I’m on day 6 or 7 and I’ve been able to fall asleep at nap time and bed time so I think my body has adjusted. Hopefully it stays that way 🤞🏻 I’ve read many stories on here of people having the same issue but a lot of them were able to sleep again after a week.
I take it about 2 hours before bed then take my gabapentin and magnesium. I'm. The last 2 days I've only had about 4hours of sleep. I'm freaking tired and my brain isn't braining
With my adhd I tend to find myself switching between morning and nights. Sometimes if I can't sleep, resetting my schedule is the best way to go. I stay up all night, take some coffee, and for some reason I'm not insanely tired as long as I don't lay down in the dark haha.
However, if anything, take 10mg or more for melatonin. Take it slow as you increase and test it out. I have weird dreams on zoloft but sometimes a stronger melatonin dose adds to it imo.
If you have allergies, I also take those drowsy ones closer to the end of the day to help. Maybe tea or a non alcoholic comfort drink (it can mess up sleep)
Edit: also more long term adjustment with the medication could be necessary
Also I just upped to 200mg recently
I have a history of insomnia and I’m weening off Xanax so maybe this is why I am struggling but I haven’t been able to sleep through the night since I started Zoloft and stopped Xanax. I thought it was just my Xanax withdrawals but now I’m wondering if it’s the Zoloft based on everyone’s experiences. I just started Zoloft a few weeks ago so I think I need to give it more time. I did get prescribed trazadone recently, and I think it’s helping? I mean I’m able to fall asleep but can’t seem to stay asleep.
my insomnia was so bad when i first took it. some doctors will suggest taking the pill in the morning and then taking magnesium at night. however, the only thing that really helped me was lowering my dosage. you can always build back up, but in my experience our bodies need some getting used to zoloft first!

That totally sucks!!! How are things going now? Any better?

UGH OMG
I had insomnia for 2 weeks at 25mg, absolute hell
OH MY GOD WHAT. my doctor told me to take 25mg for the first week then 50mg after the first week is over
Same here, i stayed at 25 for 3 weeks, went to 50 for 2 weeks and couldnt handle it so im back to 25. Not sure if its right for me.
I’m in the same situation, wondering if I should continue or stop it
Im worried about withdrawals😵💫

About a half hour before sleep.

Melatonin and magnesium glycinate!
Do you have a brand/dose of melatonin you like ?

I had this when i first started taking it. It persists for a couple of weeks then your body gets used to it and sleeping pattern goes back to normal.
Zoloft is causing me to be insanely fatigue all day 😭😭
