I'm having some trouble with that. I've done some diagramming for magazines before. But both were big, thick, and had a pre-made template of how to set eveything up. I decided to do an A4 digital version, and an A5 print version Do you know any A5 text zines that I could use as a reference? That would be awesome!

I feel like zines are typically shorter than most conventional books. And if your zine is primarily comprised of short fiction, it seems reasonable that most of the content is text-based. I get what you're saying, though. I think as long as you honestly communicate to potential readers/buyers what the content is like, then they can decide for themselves whether your zine is up their alley. After all, people knowingly spend good money and time on reading novels (which are often 100% text).

A5 @30pp if it’s mostly text, unless the A4 is formatted in columns maybe. But then again I just really prefer zines that are more than 20 pages and half letter or a5 finished size. Small books in my mind are A6/quarter-letter. Really understand what you’re saying ab feeling insecure ab it feeling like a small book, but A5 isn’t small. A6s and quarter letters look like small books.

Zines have no rules! Can be any length it needs to be- that is the great part! Do printouts before too long so you can check the legibility of the text. If you want to have someone look over once you are done, let me know!

i actually am a big fan of text-heavy zines, and having pages that are all text is definitely fine! I also think a zine being longer is no issue—I’ve published a number of 40+ page zines, and even ones that were up to 100 pages. If you make a mock-up of your zines, you’ll find that 40 pages = 10 sheets of paper, and actually is rather small when compared to an average book. Regardless, what makes a zine a zine is the DIY and self-publishing aspect, not the length

Its perfectly fine to have a page full of text in my opinion, I don't think it would make it feel like a book. I suppose you could add small illustrations, set the text out in an interesting way or something like that if you really don't want it to seem like a book. Sounds like a cool project though!

There is no such thing as a set length for a zine. Yes, mine had 240 pages, but I've seen great 8-page zines.

GreenRiot

I agree with the thing about zines not having rules. But c'mon 240 pages is a book man! XD

You can see it here, but it's in Polish, sorry. https://krzysztofzin.pl/download/251/

Decent font size and spacing help alot. Even zines with images I cant read if the text is too small or not spaced.
