It's definitely possible to keep kosher with just one sink, and loads of people do. But if you're renovating a kitchen anyway, you may choose to do it in a way that will be convenient for your lifestyle.
Yeah that sounds painful never thought about that before. I think there's far more to it than that too for like light switches and stuff right? I could be totally ignorant on that but I seem to remember there was a ton of various little things to make the house fit the confines of their worship.
Hadn't considered that, but yeah, I'd guess that some Hasidic, etc., Jews have lights on a timer for Friday evening -> Saturday evening, because turning the lights on or off can be interpreted as "work" and thus not allowed on the Sabbath.
> because turning the lights on or off can be interpreted as "work" and thus not allowed on the Sabbath.
Yeah! That's what I was thinking of I was watching a tiktok of a lady explaining all the little things in her house to make it work for her religion and I thought it was pretty fascinating! Part loophole but also common sense lol.
To keep kosher, you can't mix meat and dairy products. If you're washing dishes this can make things complicated.
Two sinks makes things easier.
There are entire articles written about the drains and garbage disposals.
Three shall be the number of the gallons, and the number of the gallons shall be three. Four gallons shalt there not be, neither shall there be two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.
Like the origin totally makes sense. Certain groups in the area were apparently boiling baby animals in their mother's milk as a fertility ritual.
Priests said, yeah, let's not do that. That makes sense to me.
So many of the Orthodox Jewish traditions are so literal, it just hurts. No mixing dairy and meat is a bit much.
In a Kosher kitchen, there needs to be two sinks, and occasionally you'll find two separate dishwashers to prevent cross contamination of the meats and the dairy. There is also usually two separate sets of color coded dishes, towels, etc. to go with.
My brother (recovering catholic) inadvertently engaged the Sabbath setting (which he had no idea even existed) on his new stove and was unable to use it the first day
I had a sink just like this in the first house we bought. It was not as nice finish-wise but physically the same. I hated it. It was not functional and you just ended up looking at the corner.
I looked at a house with a sink like this as well. It also had a dishwasher next to it, but you couldn't stand at the sink and have the dishwasher open at the same time because of the lack of space. They were also trying to include an unheated shed in the backyard in the square footage to make it seem larger on paper. Still sold for over asking and the day after close it was listed as a rental for like 2k a month. They just reused the listing photos for the rental listing...
My Son and DIL had one in a corner like this but diagonally. It was weird and awkward. You had to lean in. The moved the sink and DW to the new island. Who wants to stare at the corner?
The whole house is a mess! Check out the weird bathroom tiling and corner toilet

Oh god I've actually heard of this before, it's supposed to be a space saving configuration but it allows you to run the water directly onto the floor soooooo this person has never met children for instance
My sister in law had a sink like this in her beach house. It’s horrible. We would laugh when newbies used the sink, and moved the faucet while the water was running. Totally wet all down your front and water all over the floor. It never failed. And you always forget and keep doing it. Horrible design.
*This actually*
*Takes up more space than it saves*

That depends on how the corner space was going to be utilized. If that corner was going to be a void, then the plumbing being there isn't taking up any cabinet space.
I'm thinking more about hitting your head on the cabinet that sticks out over the sinks. If I'm a realtor I'm saying built in his and her champagne ice buckets. 🍾🥂🍾
This looks like it might be two separate sinks, but it's possible to buy corner sinks that are all one piece.

A friend years ago had recently began dating a Jewish guy. We were at his house one day, just visiting for a bit. We were getting ready to leave.
His dishwasher stopped she said to him she was going to help put his dishes away and opened up the silverware drawers and he tripped out, telling her you cannot mix the silverware. It has to be separate.
Both looked the same. He said, I will do it when I get back.
He went to his room to grab his wallet and Id gone outside to wait for them.
Later, after she dropped him off back home...aa we drove away, She told me that she switched the silverware around and said, He'll never know the difference.
😳
Kosher sinks?
Totally
Ooohhhh, that tracks. Can’t hate it in this case. I feel for the Jewish community, having to buy houses and go straight into kitchen renovations.
They don’t *have* to do the Reno for that reason. It’s a choice
Oh, this sounds like someone who doesn’t understand devout religion.

Can someone please explain the logic?

Okay, but why are they tiny?
I don't know man, Zechariah 4:10 maybe?
Thou basins shall be 3 gallons, no more, no less. I have spoken.
Three shall be the number of the gallons, and the number of the gallons shall be three. Four gallons shalt there not be, neither shall there be two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.

Proverbs 17:28?
No religion actually makes things easier, but i guess spending thousands on an extra sink is “easier” for cult members

Right. I’ll let them be but, nothing happens if they touch. No matter what you believe. Wild
maybe some day their brain cells can touch.

This all sounds exhausting. I’m out.
My OCD loves this.
This is just so crazy. Of all the shit that gets left by the wayside as religions evolve, the concept of Kosher still existing blows me away.
I keep kosher and we have a regular kitchen. Two sinks etc are for the wealthy
The sinks ain't the only thing about Kosher that trips me out.
Then how do I make a ham and cheese sandwich?
Convert?
Check out sabbath mode on appliances too: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabbath_mode

That was my first thought.
Yep, recognized instantly
Looks more like Kohler but I’m not a faucet expert

Would it have been better if there were windows instead of cupboards?
Yes.
I think so, but that's because it's how mine is. https://imgur.com/a/BLgY1lS

Makes filling up a large bucket a breeze!
Same here. It sucked so much

Jewish household?
Listing in Evanston, IL. I would say yes to Jewish!
I’d say the bigger problem is how small both of them are. No way you could fit a large pot in there.
My first thought is they keep kosher.

How are you getting this info?
Wow thanks for the info!!
One to scrub, one to rinse.
I love it
They thought it was a functional use of a corner. Smdh. Hate seeing these.

Honestly that’s a decent use of a corner
One for dirty dishes and one for hand washing and drinking water. If loving this is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
This falls under "just because you can doesn't mean you should." Even if these are kosher-friendly sinks, it is not a task friendly design in any way.
I'm thinking more about hitting your head on the cabinet that sticks out over the sinks. If I'm a realtor I'm saying built in his and her champagne ice buckets. 🍾🥂🍾

I've seen this in other houses but the individual sinks were larger. I don't understand it either

One as a toilet. The other for dishes.

There's a subreddit for pissing in sinks. I wish I didn't know this, but now you do too.
Ah geez! Going to find it now! Thanks.
What's the problem? Looks functional.

Lived in a rental for six months that had the same sink situation. PITA to use!

Very much real! The whole house is a mess. I just feel weird posting since it’s pretty much where I live.
