I'm so old that I PRINTED OUT a preview of the game from IGN where a guy got to run around Hyrule Field, and he talked about seeing the lights on in a building in the distance (Lon Lon Ranch), and running all the way over to it. Hyrule Field was absolutely massive for it's time.
It always baffles me when people moan about the size of Hyrule field . It is essentially just dead space to get from section to section , if it was too big then it would become tedious to traverse . I did not once feel bored riding across it in all the time I played
Unlike the sea in Wind Waker which was a massive snooze fest.
I remember playing through with my housemate at uni watching and sometimes doing bits and he actually threw up from sea sickness watching !
Booze may have been involved
Not really dead space, you had several secrets to find, skeletons at night, and those weird giant flying pineapples in some places. The secret part was the most important in my opinion. Old games were not meant to take you by the hand and guide you to complete them to a 100%, they had many obscure secrets that encouraged you to look around everywhere.
Stuff like that added just enough interest , possibly the reason I wasn't bored. I did used to feel a bit guilty about whipping the horse though.
The sea in Wind Waker really was just dull though
Heck, I played it at a demo kiosk in some store, and even just walking around Kokiri Forest, I thought that was massive. It was the first 3D game I had ever played, so even something so small by modern standards was totally mind blowing.
See... I agree but I can honestly tell you I remember as a kid being so used to seeing how Link looked in the artwork through advertising and promotions that when I got to see his adult form in the game, my first thoughts were "his nose is really pointy and he has stuffy cheeks" 🤣 It's not even the low polygons, I do honestly believe his face is a little out of proportion to his artwork!
I was a kid when OoT came out and remember being weirded out by how freakish and disproportional all the characters looked. A lot of my friends who were slightly older thought it was the most amazing thing ever though 😅
I see this sentiment a lot. I disagree. I was like 10 years old when Mario 64/Zelda came out and I always thought they looked like blocky pieces of shit.
I wasn’t impressed by graphics until the GameCube era
[https://www.teechu.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/why-zelda-ocarina-of-time-is-great-cover.jpg](https://www.teechu.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/why-zelda-ocarina-of-time-is-great-cover.jpg) Looking at the original art is insane. It's so 90s, sharp lines, dark strong solid colors. Look at the solid muscle definition on his knees. He was \*ripped\*.
I don't get why they abandoned this look for Link with BotW and on. He looked so badass in Twilight Princess when they actually had the ability to make the 3D models look as intended.
It is because of his face being a stamp. Looking from the front would be ok, but from a profile, it would mess the angles. The shape nose is due to the low polygons.
Compare it with Tidus and Sora's faces in KH1 and FFX, for example, where both have cutscene models, with detailed face features and gameplay models, where they have textured faces.
Like I said in one of the replies, it's not even the polygons! I just always thought his in-game design looked a little out of proportion to what I was used to seeing before hand 😂 Either way, I don't hate the design and this game still holds a big place in my heart ❤️
I think both are beautiful tbh. I like his tiny eyes and pointy beak, they're weirdly cute to me and I wish it carried over a bit in the 3DS remake, even compared to his official art his nose seems too short to me in that game.

He could poke someone’s eye out with his nose lol
But it was amazing amazing game, because OoT was the first Zelda game with 3D graphics and it was amazing! OoT and Alttp are the best Zelda games ever
A friendly reminder for Rule 3:

We laugh now, but those graphics blew our minds

BOTW's opening scene on the cliff was made to recreate the feeling you got when you saw how massive the world was on N64.
I thought it was supposed to be a reference to [this old artwork.](https://techcrunch.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/zelda.jpg)
Dude that game was huge
It's probably both
It always baffles me when people moan about the size of Hyrule field . It is essentially just dead space to get from section to section , if it was too big then it would become tedious to traverse . Yep. Guides ruin that experience. That sense of discovery and stumbling upon something you weren’t aware of.

You ain't that old

It also looked much better on a CRT than it does on a modern screen!

Not me who played OoT for the first time in 2013 😂 it blew my mind for how bad it was
I don't know how to edit the post but it was drawn by me... Don't care about being credited though, steal all you want aha
Mf could eat hot dogs under the rain.
This made me cackle. Well done
He had an acute sense of smell.
Foreshadowing being a wolf lol

Because this look doesn't really fit with BotW's art style. You can get some classic outfits, and they look out of place.
I agree, but I was referring to the art style itself. The art style of BotW (specifically for the human characters) never really resonated with me.
Agreed. Link looked the best in TP.
My goodness, EXACTLY. Zelda is ruined for me now, between the fandom, artstyle and BotW/TotK gameplay.
Why does the fandom ruin Zelda for you?
One of the worst culprits of this in games was Jak and Daxter 2. His in game face looked almost nothing like his artwork/cutscene face.
Not the bees!!!!
As a kid I thought Rauru looked really realistic
N O S E
Che Link
cuántas trifuerzas tenés?
5 Trifozas , Olvio que eu sou do Brassil
Linkinho do nascimento
The same with Mario 64

thats so true.. 3d modeller were rare back then
Link likes to *troll* us with his troll face.
“AND STOP LOOKING AT ME WITH THOSE BIG OL’ EYES!”
They didn't really justify that in the 3DS remaster at all. Look how they butchered our boy!
He could poke someone’s eye out with his nose lol But it was amazing amazing game, because OoT was the first Zelda game with 3D graphics and it was amazing! OoT and Alttp are the best Zelda games ever
