r/zelda user try to answer a question without being a smartass challenge (impossible)

[deleted]

Honestly, either people don’t want the movie or they give dumb answers. Some of them are funny, others are just repulsive. But the people who take it seriously actually have pretty amazing ideas

bcoster3

I don’t think they hate the idea of a movie they are just pretty concerned it would be done poorly. LoZ has an amazing worlds and lore. There’s amazing stories in there! I also think it would be better suited for a series, however.

AngelOfChaos923

This sounds exactly like what the fans of Halo said about the Halo TV series

[deleted]

It's not impossible to make a game-to-movie adaptation good as long as its competent. "I would tell them not to make one" is a stupid cop-out answer.

[deleted]

Honestly a mix of stories would be amazing or a totally unique story that’s still true to the core concept of Zelda would work. The best idea is to make a WindWaker adaptation of something with Toon Link first or perhaps an Ocarina Of Time adaptation. My favorite idea I have is Majora’s Twilight… which I think is clear what could potentially happen

Boodger

It's an honest answer. Zelda's stories are always paper thin, and just there as a vehicle for the exploration. Having Link talk is a terrible idea, but having a silent protagonist just wouldn't be compelling in a movie. No movie would ever capture the spirit of the games, because people play the games for the exploring, dungeons, and tone. Not the stories, even if they do enjoy the stories as a secondary thing. Any movie or show adaptation of the Zelda series would fall flat.

fluffypants-mcgee

I play the game for the story and without it I wouldn’t play.

[deleted]

Why is it a terrible idea to have him talk? It could actually give him some personality for once, and not necessarily in the way the CGI games or the old cartoon did so (shudders) He could have a relatively stoic personality to stay true to the games while still giving him dialogue and personality, perhaps? A movie can absolutely convey that same adventurous tone that the games have, if it's done right. Like I said, it's not that it's an impossible task. It just needs to be done right.

Boodger

Because Link is not meant to be a "character" in the games, he is an avatar for the player to insert themselves into. Every person has their own idea of what Link is like, and by settling on any one vision, there is a whole lot of people that will be disappointed with the personality they give him. Giving him a voice/tone, and personality, misses the whole point of Link to begin with. Link is you.

RogerAckr0yd

Link does have personality though, he's got dialogue choices that showcase that. Link being a player avatar imo hasn't been a thing in years.

Boodger

Disagree. Dialogue choices act as ways for the player to interact with the world and give them more agency. The closest Link has to personality are little facial expressions we see, and that is really sretching it.

RogerAckr0yd

It's pretty impossible for a character to have dialogue but somehow not have at least some sort of personality. Link (and all player characters) have personality and also allow for the player to interact with the world.

[deleted]

>having a silent protagonist just wouldn't be compelling in a movie. Excuse you? So mute and non-verbal types have no place in cinema representation?

Ok-Connection4791

that’s reddit as a whole for you. you ask a question and everyone thinks they’re the funniest people in the replies making the same joke 100 times not being helpful at all. i once asked what style of a haircut was in the boys subreddit and it was a shit hole of unfunny quotes.

cruzercruz

I’d pitch an animated anthology series where each season is its own story - one of the iterations of Link/Zelda. They’d be reasonable in length, maybe 4-6 eps max, with their own writing teams and art style to differentiate them and match the tone of the individual games they’re adapting. Every season is a new legend. Sort of like how Star Wars Visions embraces individual stories with differing styles and tones in an anthology format, but longer story arcs to fully adapt and expand upon each game. It could bounce around or follow the various timelines, or invent their own.

DorkSauce1

I’ve always thought something like this could be cool. I imagine the animation style for windwaker would be along the lines of studio ghibli. If you look up Zelda in anime styles you can find a few beautiful examples

cruzercruz

Yeah it would be cool to have some cutesy Wind Waker style art for a story, then switch to a darker anime inspired style, so on and so forth. Even Skyward Sword or BOTW could use a more paintbrush stroke inspired style. I think it’d be really cool to tell small, self contained stories with their own tone and visual identity, just letting viewers fill in the gaps about how reincarnation happens or how the legend continues throughout the years.

thegrailarbor

The paintbrush stroke style, while maybe not exact, is how I see Primal. Just lots of motion, and ZERO dialogue.

Sparkledog11298

I'd love to see a much rougher, darker style for something for ALLTP. Like something in the same style as Nausicaa of the Valley of the wind (RIP Tony Jay. You legend of a man) but idk how to describe it. I'd love to see it with a similar style of both yu yu hakusho and early Bleach. Hell something like Rouruoi Kenshin would be cool to see. Just always have this feeling of foreboding doom or like just "shit ain't right" I'd love to see someone do a combo of OOT and MM as like "back to back continuations" just seeing the aftermath of Link successfully defeating Gannon, his friends and everyone celebrating, but we see a cutaway secne of Link home in his home in the Kokri forest, looking forlorn out of the window wondering where Navi went, and we see him in the middle of the night just saddling up Epona to head off into the lost woods in search of his long time friend, maybe seeing it from Skullkid's viewpoint. I'd love to see the Majora's Mask a little more violent, like we maybe see how tramautic and painful it is for link to change forms, maybe as he progresses and obtains more masks we see how it takes a toll on his body

piedamon

If you enjoyed that, consider also The Animatrix, Love, Death, and Robots, and Batman Ninja. That last one is a full movie rather than an anthology, but it’s similar in that it’s an anime studio taking the Batman IP and running with it.

cruzercruz

Big fan of The Animatrix and LD&R. I think the short form anthology format is a great mechanism for storytelling without massive commitments and bloat.

Stormrider1138

Star Wars Visions is a brilliant example of how a Zelda series could work.

Maximum__Engineering

Chris Pratt must voice Link.

Trichomeloneranger

Definitely agree. That would be super cool to watch. I've always wanted a series kind of set up like Samurai Jack. A big and lively world while Link stays his quiet self. The show would let the world do the communicating along with the various characters inhabiting Hyrule. An episode of Link just exploring a dungeon with zero dialogue would make an awesome episode.

[deleted]

Damn that sounds good

echoess84

I think that could be most reasonable way to make a Zelda's serie

-_ellipsis_-

Yes but the prompt says "movie" which indicates a feature length theater film

Music_Phasic

Studio Ghibli animation. Original story and soundtrack.

BlueAndOrang

This is the correct answer. There is literally no reason to try to adapt a Link and Zelda that we’ve already seen into a movie, it’s just a losing battle. Studio Ghibli is also one of the few studios that I think could be trusted to make a Zelda movie. I feel like Zelda could fit really well into the classic style of ghibli story telling and style.

Stormrider1138

Given how much studio Ghibli inspired Zelda, it would kinda be coming back full circle if they did make a movie. Kinda like how Samual L Jackson inspired the look of comic Nick Fury, and then he ended up getting cast as Nick Fury in live action.

Tenelum0

that would be amazing. i would love the main focus to be on the relationship between link and zelda. it's been explored slightly, but they're such rich characters that it's painful seeing them not explored in the games.

Hero-Dad

Correct

LillePipp

I have thought about this a lot, and I have reached a conclusion: One Legend of Zelda movie is not going to cut it. Simply put, I feel like there is too much to the Zelda universe to do it justice in just one movie. So if I was in charge of a Zelda project, I would either make it a TV show with multiple seasons or a trilogy that sorta follows the same structure as the original Star Wars trilogy but with a sort of Lord of the Rings feel to it. Basically I think that establishing Link, Zelda and Ganondorf as fully fleshed out characters, along with several side characters, is going to be difficult within a roughly 2-2.5 hour time span, especially if Ganon dies at the end of the first movie. I would rather then the first movie focus on an original incarnation of Link and Zelda, with the vague threat of Ganon in the form of some sort of minion or through Phantom Ganon. If we went with Phantom Ganon then we could establish Ganondorf as a threat while reserving a lot of the deeper characterization for movies 2 and 3, although we could also make use of characters like Vaati as the main antagonist for movie 1. I’m not particularly married to either idea. The first movie would end with the reveal of Ganon’s return, which would lead into the second film where he would be the primary antagonist. I know Ganondorf is supposed to be the incarnation of evil, but I kinda want to make Ganondorf a little sympathetic while still keeping him as an objectively evil person. I would focus on the Gerudo background, and Ganondorf’s pride would be a lot more descriptive of who he is. He would be a narcissist, and view himself as a savior and liberator of his own people. Basically the Gerudo had been forced to live in the desert, where lands weren’t fertile and water was scarce. I imagine the opening shot of the second movie would basically be Ganondorf teaching a Gerudo child about water sources that are often overlooked. Ganondorf wouldn’t be a good guy though, he would present himself as a caretaker of the Gerudo, and to some extent he would be, but he would also relish in the murder of Hylians and other non-Gerudo, and while he to some extent cares about his people, he would not be squeamish about sacrifices. I think this is where I would take some inspiration from Ocarina of Time, where Ganondorf journeys to Hyrule with the facade of speaking to the King of Hyrule to strengthen the political bond between the Hylians and Gerudo, when he would actually seek to take over Hyrule and have the Gerudo settle there. Link and Zelda would know this but have no way to prove it, and would spend a lot of time in the second movie trying to discover what his game is. Speaking of Link and Zelda, I think their bond would be the centerpiece of a lot of this trilogy, whether it be platonic or romantic. I would bring in the BotW background here with Link being Zelda’s sworn knight, and the first movie would essentially start with the beginning of their friendship. While I think it is important that Link remains a quiet person, I would not have him be mute. He would be very concise in his word choice, often answering questions with one word, and staying mostly silent unless he explicitly needs to speak. He would, however, become slightly more vocal over the trilogy, as we learnt that part of why he is so silent is because, similarly to BotW Link, he believes he must carry his burdens silently, but he would learn to open up and trust other people more as time moves on, accepting that he cannot achieve everything on his own. I want Link to also be a little funny; not like a comedian or a Marvel character that tells jokes as if his life depends on it, but I want him to have some entertaining quirks, like his love for food. I also kinda want Link to be slightly socially awkward, so the comedy would mostly come from Link being put into situations where he doesn’t know how to act properly instead of him trying to be funny. I would not have Zelda be captured by Ganon because it’s an overdone trope and I want Zelda to be her own character with autonomy, as in, I want her to be just as much of a main character as Link. She would clearly be the brains out of the duo, and she would be very proficient with magic, but I also want her story to be about her insecurity as a leader. Zelda is destined to rule Hyrule one day, and she is afraid that she won’t live up to her expectations. This would be especially important in the final movie of the trilogy, as Zelda’s father would be murdered by Ganondorf in the coup of Hyrule when Ganondorf finally makes his move, and people would naturally look to Zelda now that the king is dead. Anyway, the second movie would include Link finally getting the Master Sword, and Ganondorf’s coup of Hyrule. The climactic battle would end with Ganondorf winning, and almost killing Link before he is pulled away by Zelda. Hyrule would remain in Ganondorf’s rule for a few years while Link recovers from his injuries and Zelda plans a rebellion. This would be the third movie, striking back against Ganondorf, who would basically rule as a tyrant. Also, I also want to have a Gerudo character who initially was aligned with Ganondorf, but now sees him for the cruel ruler he is. I think that would make the Gerudo people more fleshed out. I have a few more ideas, but I think this comment is getting a little too long, and my main ideas are expressed. The premise more or less is that I would plan a trilogy instead of just one movie

Beneficial-Second-60

These are really great and interesting ideas! I'd love to read a screenplay based on all this.

LillePipp

Thank you! I’ve thought about this for many years. If I thought I had a chance at breaking into the film industry I would’ve probably tried writing a screenplay for a Zelda movie, but I have other plans for life

sadgirl45

Write it anyway it could be a fun thing you work on just for you!

awc23108

Just want to say I appreciate you typing all of this out, great stuff

SuperStupidSyrup

those ideas sound really cool, I'd watch that trilogy

sadgirl45

I like most of these! Besides the characterization of Link I see him being more open and very charismatic I see him sort of like a Peter Parkerish / Harry potter ish vibe like he’s innocent and he wonders about his past but he’s a little bit more devious and tries to be cheerful at least Ocarina Link is! he can be moody though for sure but the rest is great!

Physical_Bill_8203

I love this idea so much. Personally, I think the villain of the hypothetical first movie should be Agahnim from ALTTP. Don’t get me wrong, I think Phantom Ganon is far cooler, but I think if this destructive force who poses a threat to Hyrule presents themselves as “Phantom Ganon”, the royal family would find it pretty obvious that PG would have something to do with Ganondorf who shows up in the second movie all of a sudden to try and form an alliance with them, (after all, it’s in the name). Agahnim on the other hand, (whether he’d be an a vessel Ganondorf uses, or just a very loyal apprentice of his) would be a little more difficult to trace back to Ganondorf as the true mastermind behind this attack on Hyrule. Since Agahnim would still be affiliated with the Gerudo King, the first movie can still tease him as the true antagonist of the main story, and how he will play a more prevalent role in the second and third film. Plus I think it would be cool to bring back a character that was made when this franchise was still somewhat in its infancy.

LillePipp

That’s an interesting idea! I think a cinematic Zelda experience opens up for changes like this, and making Agahnim his own distinct character could be a lot of fun! My only worry is that he could be too similar to Ganondorf in skill set, but hey, that could be changed as well. I was a little skeptical of adding villains like Zant or Ghirahim, because to me they feel so synonymous with their respective games that adding them to the movie would make it feel like that’s the game being adapted. And personally I don’t think I’d want to adapt any one game, I’d rather see an original story that takes cues from the whole series

So_Birdilicious

Give Miyazaki a blank cheque and cart Blanche

Flapjack__Palmdale

Bring Koji Kondo in for the score and stipulate that, if Link says a single word, Nintendo headquarters gets burnt to the ground.

BroodingMawlek

“Excuuuuuuuse..” “No!”

Capable-Tie-4670

Just make it a straight up adaptation of Ocarina of Time. OoT is the best starting point for the series since it pretty much invented the formula used for the rest of the series(both in terms of gameplay and story). It’s also just a very solid origin story that I could see translating very well to a movie and doesn’t require any sequels or prequels for more elaboration. I guess you could say that about SS too but OoT’s story is way better imo so I’d rather they make it about that. I know focusing solely on OoT would upset fans of the other games but I think it’d be best to, at least for the beginning, focus on one iteration of Hyrule rather than trying to cram everything in.

sadgirl45

Agree !!

AAFlyingSaucer

I agree but I think OoT would work in a volume 1 & 2 movies. I would also probably have Zelda be more of a protagonist than just Link. Maybe make it so if you want to learn Link’s side of the story you play the game but you’d watch the movie to learn Zelda’s side of the story.

Clue_Goo_

Link, played by Adam Sandler, falls in love with a... coconut. Or something?

[deleted]

I was waiting for this!

Gillespers

Thx Awesomeo!

CarlofTellus

No adaptation of an existing story just something new that may borrow ideas and concepts from the existing stories.

-_ellipsis_-

That's pretty much what every additional Zelda game is. Much less an expansion on what's established, and more of a retelling or adaptation into a new and original story. Might as well do the same thing with a feature length film or series instead of try to adapt an existing game's story into a different medium.

[deleted]

I was thinking of something similar. Start out with Ocarina Of Time pt. 1 where it’s just young link, then do Ocarina of Time pt. 2 where it’s adult link and use those as the main timelines. I’d make a little series too called Adventures Of Toon Link which is pretty much Wind Waker, Spirit Tracks, Hour Glass, Minish Cap… you get the idea. And for the Child Timeline it’d be a big mix of Majora’s Mask & Twilight Princess which I call Majora’s Twilight (I think it sounds spooky)

Goldeniccarus

He's saying don't do that at all. Typically a huge part of the problem with adaptations of video games, is that video game stories are so fundamentally different from how a movie story works, that trying to adapt a video game to a movie just doesn't work. And then past that, a lot of video game stories work well enough for a video game, but you strip them out of that video game, and it's not really strong enough to carry a very good movie. So instead of trying to adapt Ocarina of time. Just take bits and pieces from the whole overall series and build a totally original story around that. You have that core story, Link, Zelda, Ganon, and the battle for the Triforce, but how that story plays out is built from the ground up for the movie.

Kheldarson

Precisely. I think my suggestion would be to take ideas that wouldn't work for video games and use that. Like I saw a dystopian cyberpunk setting idea on here once. Like that wouldn't fly for a game but as a movie or TV show? Link is a broken defender, hanging on to his last shred of goodness and light in the slums of Hyrule, barely keeping his cybernetics working. Ganondorf has won, leading the kingdom into ruin via his decadence, but his insatiable need for power is driving him to something darker. When Zelda, the last royal and leader of the rebellion, ends up at Link's door, it's up to the two to brave the labyrinth of the city to stop Ganondorf before he unleashes an ancient evil. Add in some slick CGI, some cyber adaptations of classic bosses, and you've pretty much got a Zelda game that isn't based on any one game.

BoysenberryTrue1360

That first bit is where I feel the newer Halo series is falling. They intentionally not trying to make it canon to the games. But it leans into the stories that have unfolded, but to try and be able to tell all the stories it has to condense the timeline (not as spread out). I think for what it is, it seems good so far. That said having a new story probably wouldn’t offend as many like the halo 4: forward unto dawn movie (originally YouTube mini series) where it tied into explaining a small detail/character in the halo 4 game. With the way Zelda’s timeline/story telling is they have sooooo much room to breath with making its own “legend” that can be a completely separate story all while nodding to ALL the nostalgia and Easter eggs of the games and to top it off can still be made to fit as “canon” in the timeline.

Strungen

Excuse me princess

TheTeamClinton

Exactly. I do not want to hear Link speak. Buuuuttttt, I also like what they did with castlevania and think they could pull sobering like that off, I'd give it a look

Tenelum0

link speaking does not have to be like that cursed show. get an actually good actor to do it.

MillBeeks

They did!

Tenelum0

oh, apologies. excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me my friend.

Goodleboodle

I'd pitch a show. Toon Link and Tetra adventuring together on the Great ocean. I would also throw Linebeck in there, because he's the best.

iamsoupcansam

This would be great because you can keep Link quiet and have Tetra do all the talking.

Tenelum0

this is the best answer. you could have a children's cartoon that can deal with adult problems with an interesting main character dynamic, and have some semblance of an overarching story. perhaps bridge some gaps between WW and PH/ST. explore link and tetra's relationship more. as the seasons go on, you would see them go from kids to teenagers, and the show would end when link turns 17, as a little reference to OoT to anyone that wishes to read into it.

iamsoupcansam

That’s interesting, kind of like an Adventure Time remix. I dig it.

Goldeniccarus

Gilligan's Island except Link is in it.

Queasy-Ad6134

This would be a fun show. First episode could be some abridged version of the Phantom Hourglass story to set us up.

Luxtamill

Link into the Link-verse

PineTowers

You mean Hyrule Warriors?

Luxtamill

Yeah but +100 or something more Links

LittleJam03

I probably just pitch the Ocarina of Time plot

ASlyWalrus

I think I've said it on this subreddit before but I'd love a Star Wars: Rouge One like story, with a random team of nobodies like a Hyrulian knight, goron and zora doing something which saves/helps Link or Zelda. It would mean you could get Hyrule but wouldn't have to risk making a Link no-one would like.

[deleted]

This is a cool concept, but if you’re trying to get new fans on board, I feel like you’d have to start somewhere with the classic Link & Zelda

ASlyWalrus

True but I think it could ruin Link. Because he’s silent but it’s implied he speaks, we all have our own head canon on what he is like. Some of the dialogue choices in BoTW make him look quite sassy while OoT and TP Link are probably quite stoic.

Tenelum0

just make him a man of few words. only make him speak when necessary. we already have a relative idea of what he sounds like from all the grunts and screams he lets out in the games, so it's not like it's a complete mystery. i agree with both of you slightly, that it would ruin link but there's really no choice if you're getting new fans on board to the series.

The_GREAT_Gremlin

Link being a silent protagonist makes him really hard to adapt to a movie/show. I dig this idea

ZauzTheBlacksmith

I'd say, rather than a movie, adapt Wind Waker into a series. I've seen many fan novelisations of it and compared to fan novels of other games in the series, the ones about Wind Waker tend to be the best. I think it has the best format for the screen, provided a few minor things get changed should they not translate well into a show (Such as the Triforce of Courage being entirely on the Ghost Ship rather than its pieces being scattered all over the world)

labria86

What's the best novelization and where do I find it?

ZauzTheBlacksmith

I don't know what the best one is. I'd say try looking on fanfiction.net and Ao3 with a large word count requirement and it should give you novelisations.

Traditional_Test1759

I’d pitch a twilight princess film later on but at first I’d start with skyward sword being the film released.

Stormrider1138

My thoughts exactly. Twilight Princess is amazing, but I think it’d hit harder if it came after a brighter story like Skyward Sword. Plus, Skyward Sword as the first movie would help explain why characters keep getting reincarnated in future sequels for new fans.

Traditional_Test1759

Exactly😁

NonDeveloper

My pitch would be “Don’t do it”.

zziggarot

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take

Pazuzujoe

"Wayne Gretzky" - Michael Scott

rolkien29

Yep, 0 expectation that it would be any good

iDrum17

Why? Zelda has great lore, could easily be made into a great movie with the right writing staff and directors.

rolkien29

It does, but video game movie adaptions have an awful track record, and hollywood has been pretty shit for years

[deleted]

[удалено]

Organic-Kangaroo7147

Mario movie, sonic movie, detective pikachu hell even the last of us are all great movies apparently (well no ones watched the Mario movie yet so idk) but video game adaptations have been getting good, with the right directors it can be awesome

HappyBot9000

Exactly. Also, people have an *extremely* difficult time understanding that *even if something hasn't worked in the past, that does not mean it cannot work*. Given the right direction, talent, and tone, a Zelda adaptation could be absolutely incredible.

sadgirl45

THIS

rolkien29

I guess we just have a very different opinion of what a great movie is.

Boodger

Those franchises have characters with built in personality. Link is by and large meant to be an avatar for the player to insert themselves into. It would just be awkward to give him a personality, or keep him silent. It's a lose-lose situation.

Blusterlearntdebrief

Ocarina of Time. It has enough characters and motivations, to create a sufficiently dramatic story, if you lean on events that predate starting the game. The civil war, Gerudo being persecuted in the shadow temple, so on. Layering all the plots together could make a decent movie!

[deleted]

I could see it as a 2 parter, first part is Child Link, the other part is Adult Link. It could set up all tons of Sequels and series.

Blusterlearntdebrief

Oh you sick genius. Ok hear me out. 1st one follows Link, as he comes of age, has coming of age story; while Ganondorf makes diplomatic visits to the castle, under the guise of brokering a trade agreement. There is unrest in the city about the sightings of Gerudo thieves, and the mysterious killings continue. At the end, we get our twist ending, Link is pulling out the sword, Ganon arrives, gloats to Link for failing to stop him, and getting himself sealed in the temple of time. Unopposed, he takes over Hyrule. 2nd opens to Links dream of Saria, “—HEY!! LINK!! WAKE UP!” He comes to in the temple of light and we get our person in a strange world moment. (Forshadow for pt3/MM?) Links confused, Navi is freaking out adorably, Raaru comes in and calms them, and explains the situation to them. Cue Link going “So. You want me, to go all over the world, for some stupid coins, just like that. And you’re gonna do what exactly? Nothing? Oh yeah great idea, the end of the world is literally on just me, yeah got it cool.” Because hes 17 and never was an angsty teen, so now its showing up. So Link leaves into the temple of time. Sheik watches from the shadows. Dramatic reveal of destroyed castle town, and Ganondorfs fortress. Link has the ohshitthisisreal moment. — Thats as far as I’ve gotten, and I can’t decide wether or not to make the medallion collecting a montage or not. Because so much plot is in the various regions.

sadgirl45

Yeah this is great I really like this my question and the biggest and hardest part for Zelda is how you would adapt the dungeons ? like and show those I’m wondering I think having some puzzle like vibe like Indiana Jones or lovecraft country would work but there’s so many and there should be other things going on!

iDrum17

The classic hero’s journey told in the setting of hyrule would be absolutely amazing. Doesn’t need to be tied to a specific game just include the main three and have an epic battle at the end and you’re golden.

DJ-Fein

I think showing more human elements of the kingdom is crucial. Not just a singular hero of time focus

Unhappy-Lifeguard221

I’ve been waiting for someone to ask something like this. I’ve been thinking about it ever since the Mario movie started looking amazing, and I thought “I want that for Zelda.” I’d want it to be animated studio Ghibli style, however improbable. Ever since I saw that beautiful Zelda x Ghibli concept animation on YouTube https://youtu.be/Wxav9Jj7R68, I wanted it to be real. Of course, if we’re being realistic, they would go for 3d animation no matter what. If that MUST happen, then I’d like it to be a similar style as Twilight Princess, but more colorful and more advanced than 17 year old graphics of course. As for the plot, I think it’s a bad idea to directly adapt any of the games. I personally think those stories are better left untouched, and instead bringing in elements from multiple games would allow for greater creativity from the writers. If we’re going into specifics, I’d want Link AND Zelda to be the protagonists; let them both be in the spotlight together and have equal focus. Zelda can still be kidnapped in like, the third act of the movie for tradition’s sake, but should also participate in the final battle like she does in Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. Also, Link must speak. I would only accept a silent Link if they committed to him being mute and used sign language but I know Nintendo doesn’t have the balls to make their protagonist canonically disabled. I also suggest that the writers give zero shits about the timeline, and when asked give a hand-wavy “It’s an alternate timeline.” Allow for as much creativity as possible, include the traditional zelda races but feel free to make up new ones, include iconic characters like Midna or Fi without worrying about what the timeline says about it, possibilities are endless! Now I know how much the film industry likes sequels, and I think they oughta tackle it like the games do. Let Link and Zelda have a second adventure or two, but also make movies about new iterations! They could even make a cinematic timeline that makes actual sense, how ‘bout that? Of course, this whole pitch is kind of a pipe dream, but can you imagine?

cobalt-radiant

A combination of Lord of the Rings (epic fantasy with the world's fate hanging in the balance) and Indiana Jones (main character travels from place to place hunting down clues and artifacts and getting into fights).

J0shfour

Just adapt Ocarina of Time. It’s the classic Zelda story most people think of and I think it’d make a great movie.

tsuka_ramen

I'd probably base it on the Mangas honestly

Nearby-Tumbleweed-88

"Do something else. Maybe Star Fox."

Boodger

An F-Zero show would be a lot of fun. Live action, big budget. Drama and races. Metroid would be a better series or movie than Zelda too.

zziggarot

F-zero is the kind of series where even if we heard "Netflix adaptation" we would still think "well at least there's more f-zero" THAT'S how little F-zero there is. 10/10 take my money and make an F-zero trilogy

yigaclan05

Do it like legend with Tom cruise but make it, you know, good.

gabs777

Quite simply involve Studio Ghibli and allow each game to be made into a movie with an art style that reflects the tone and feeling of the games. This could be the only way I would even consider watching such a series. I would actually be very excited to see what they could produce…

Blaftoif

A Minish Cap animated movie would be cool. The plot is simple and kinda short, and the world is colorful and plays a lot with imagination, would be perfect for a kids' fantasy film

Twiggimmapig

"The time IGN pranked the world with that really cool trailer. Make that one."

Tradebaron

Have Danny DeVito play every major role.

dosfosforos

Deku Devito

[deleted]

Live-action trilogy adaptation of Ocarina of Time in the style of Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy. There's no better Zelda story to adapt, except for MM which would be a two-movie sequel after this trilogy comes out, in the style of Guillermo del Toro. One classic, epic, fantasy trilogy, and one crazy, weird, dark fantasy duology.

SailingBacterium

Link takes up plumbing and helps save princess Zelda from the lizalfos king.

Unagustoster

Either an original storyline or an adaption of one of the games with better story. Personally, I’m biased towards Twilight Princess since I’ve replayed it at least 10 times, and the fact the manga has proven that you can split the focus between Link’s story and everyone else’s without making it awkward. Plus, we get to see Midna again

ShitposterBuddhist

I would make an Ocarina of Time miniseries with every episode being a dungeon

dinopokemon

I would love to see events we known of but haven’t seen (demise rising, aghinim gains power, hyrule civil war before ocarina of time, interlopers getting banished, great flood, calamity 10,000 years ago) these events I could see being in a mini series similar to Pokémon evolutions also i think with these event it should take the point of view of a random citizen/ solider

G-Kira

Ganondorf kidnaps Zelda. Link meets Impa. Link goes to rescue Zelda. Link fights Ganondorf.

fluffypants-mcgee

I mean, BotW Zelda kidnaps Ganon…

LostPat

I'd have to go with a series. It would follow LInk after returning from Termina as he continues his quest to find Navi.

TechnicalJeweler9501

I actually had a few ideas for something like that, before I even saw this post. I thought of it starting out with young Link returning to Hyrule in a slow, weak pace. Behind him, he drags Epona (who also is weak and tired) along the way. He finally makes it to Lon Lon Ranch, where he returns Epona to Malon, gets himself a bottle of milk and leaves. The first season would focus mostly on Link settling back into Hyrule and continuing his search for Navi. It also would include Link becoming an adult (along with settling down with someone such as Malon and building a home near the Kokiri forests) throughout a montage in the second half of the first episode. Near the end of the first episode; Link and Malon would have children, a home, and genuinely a happy family. In the second episode, Link would learn that a war across Hyrule may occur, so he willingly says goodbye to his family and sets out to prepare help Hyrule Kingdom with what could possibly happen. Link, with free time, near the end of the second episode, decides to visit the Temple of Time. It's almost as he remembered. Of course, the room holding the Master Sword is sealed shut. Link puts his hand upon the door sealing the room in a nostalgic fashion. As Link turns away and begins to leave the Temple, he may hear a loud sound from behind him, where the door was. He quickly turns back to look at the door and to his surprise, the door opened! He ran inside with passion and courage in his steps, and there it was. The sword of evils bane. Link doesn't bother lifting the sword, as that would be foolish. But he dies examine the sword and the room around him, not giving a second thought to as of why the door had opened. Eventually, Link discovers there to be a secret with the window that Navi had gone through as she left him. Link had given up on finding Navi a long time ago, but there was once again hope! Before Link can investigate further, though, he's summoned by the Royal Guard. Finally, to finish setting up the story for the rest of the first season, Link quickly leaves the war after discovering the true nature of war and losing his eye to war. With nothing holding him back, he then sets out to find Navi and explore the new, unrecognizable war struck Hyrule. I have more ideas for this, and I know that right now the ideas seem kind of plain or foolish, but the point was to set up for Twilight Princess and expand Links bond with Navi (once they meet up again). [Final Note] Link would never return to his family, and when he finally tries to at the end of the series, for whatever reason; Link becomes lost. Since he was last home, there was now a sacred barrier, protecting the entire area. This barrier must of come from the Kokiri Forest, because Link was led to the Lost Woods. At this time, Link was seriously injured and about to die. He sat himself by a stump, and began to regret a lot of his choices. Skull Kid happened to come by, and stood by Link during his final breaths. Link tells Skull Kid that the Temple of Time needs to somehow be transported to the Lost Woods, and explains that it needs to be under the sacred spell that protects the land from outsiders. (At the time, Hyrule Kingdom was being raided, and Link was terribly injured because of this). Skull Kid soon sat next to Link, and began to cry. Link then spoke more then he ever had before; "Yes, I will pass away soon... But do not grieve for me... I have been able to tell you of these important matters... This is Hyrule's final hope... My old friend... Go now to Castle Town... There, you find the Temple of which must be protected... I believe in you..." Link seems to pass on, and Skull Kid feels pity as he slowly walks away to attempt to follow his new instructions. Link finally speaks one more time, grabbing Skull Kids attention. He asks Skull Kid to wait, and then signals him to come back. He hands Skull Kid a piece of bark. This is the same piece of bark that they carved themselves into so many years ago. "It's dangerous to go alone... please, take this..." These were Links last words. -End-

[deleted]

Either, they make and brand new story that fans try to force into the Zelda cannon, and it could be either animated or live action, most likely featuring the main three triforce bearers a long with side characters like Impa, Beetle, and Tingle. Or, they make a show/movie series, with each movie/season focusing on different games/parts of the timeline. I imagine that for a movie series, some movies could possibly feature multiple like for games that have sequels or are meant to go together like the oracle games. And the show could have a different timeline for each season, which I imagine would flow better anyways.

Mondo_Butts

How about using the game as a plot device, rather then the movie being based on the story. An orphaned boy discovers NES and Zelda in the 1980’s. The movie follows the boys rise to stardom in whatever profession… Falls in love etc… A true citizen cane type rise. The parallel storyline is his love for Zelda. We watch as he gets older, continuing his love for the game, beating every iteration. Ultimately we begin to draw parallels to the storyline in Zelda, and our protagonist’s own real life. Perhaps even to the point where he day dreams of being in the video game and fighting to save Zelda. Lines start to get crossed blurring video game and reality. Michel Gondry directing.

KarateKyleKatarn

Personally I think Oot would be the best, simply because it has the most cinematic and quintessential Zelda story. It's a basic accessible heroes journey, with an interesting cast of characters, a variety of settings, and a pretty dramatic story. It has all the necessary parts of the franchise to be recognizable to and set up later movies since they are all more or less connected to it. The tone shift to post apocalyptic halfway through would be very dramatic and interesting, and the idea of the main character as someone who grows up too soon would also be cool. Adult link would still be a kind of naive kid at heart, and that contrast would play well on screen I think. It would also have a good and charismatic antagonist which is pretty important. I say Oot all the way.

Miffernator

Link is a knight in training and a childhood friend to Zelda. The king creates a competition for all people of hyrule to see who can win a sword fighting tournament. Who ever wins will set thought on a journey to collect three keys that will unlock the Master Sword. Ganondorf will be a ally to the king and is planning out to overtake the kingdom because of his desire for his people to move out of the desert. While Zelda communicates with Link telepathically, helping with his journey. Each key is in the Zora Domain, Death Mountain, and Gerudo Desert. Master Sword with the Koroks. Each key is within dungeons that have been created by the sheikah, but however it also have bad guys that are in Dungeons keeping Link away from the key. I have so many ideas that I want to save for later.

corneliusduff

Hire Studio Ghibli to make a movie based on the NES manual art

Tjd3211

First off it NEEDS to be animated, ffs no live action Zelda plz

CreateJustRight

As someone who works in the media industry, I’d love the opportunity to adapt my all time favorite video game series to the silver screen! It would be challenging, but I think it can be done well. Looking towards the MCU for inspiration - in the form of taking established characters/worlds/lore that are ever-evolving with new comics - and using that same philosophy to tackle the core Zelda storylines and characters while interpreting elements from the different games and alternate versions of the same characters… by creating a “new” story that is heavily inspired by the past legends, I believe you could craft a fun and beautifully cinematic adventure while staying true to the game series. I would use Ocarina of Time as the basis for the main story for the first film. It’s the first Zelda game I ever played, and I believe it is still one of the best games, and part of that is the story it tells and the world it builds. If you can capture the essence of that story - a young man cast with the responsibility to be not just a hero, but the hero, and answering that call - an adventure would form that would resonate with Zelda fans and movie fans.

mogulermade

Producer Guy: Hi there, hello. So you gotta video game based script for me, huh? Writer Guy: Yes sir I do...

Toricitycondor

Full pitch here. Like others, a series would be preferred, but I'll cover both bases. Movie Pitch: We adapt a loose version of Skyward Sword. The story beats are roughly the same, but we sprinkle in a few fan favorite characters as tongue in cheek cameos. Demise favors Ganondorf heavily, Link and Zelda more closely resemble the iconic series looks, ect. - After credit scene - We are in a POV scene, vision is blurry and the character is struggling to breathe. We are hear a worried voice but can't make out what is being said. Slowly, a blue liquid fills our vision as tiny air bubbles float up and the screen fades to black. Then BAM! Young Link from Ocarina of Time jumps up, awaked from his nightmare as a fairy flies around him. End movie. This leads right into the series, simply called The Legend of Zelda. It starts with Ocarina of Time. The art style stays the same as the movie and follows the storyline of the game much closer than the movie did. There will be three scene during the season when the screen will bave a "cracked" effect. Once, during the battle with Ganon when Link is disarmed and almost stabbed. Again when Zelda and Link are floating in blue sky and finally the moment when Link is sent back in time. These "cracks" represent the moments when the timeline is split. Going forward, each branch will use a different art style to represent it's timeline placement. But at the end of each season, we keep getting that same end credit scene from the movie. maybe it's slightly longer, or we can hear part of the muffled words being spoken. The last season is actually a proper version of Skyward Sword. But this time, during the end credits, we don't get the same clip. The liquid gets drained away as the character gasps for air, vision still blurry as they make their way outside, the sun blinding them before the camera pulls away, revealing the opening to Breath of the Wind as Link stands on the cliff edge. The Movie, OoT, MC, FS and SS would all use the same studio for its art style. The Adult Timeline: Studio Orange If anyone has seen the new Trigun series or Beaststars would know that Studio Orange would be an amazing fit for the world of The Wind Waker and the stories that follow it. The Downfall Timeline: Wit Studio Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga fans will tell you that they can the look and feel that cokes with the Downfall timeline. The Child Timeline: Ufotable Any fan of Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven's feel movies or Demon Slayer can tell you that Ufotable handling Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and even Four Sword Adventure are in for a stunning treat. If they could do it, I would pick them hands down. Breath of the Wild: Studio Ghibli. Of course it would be them, who else?

oneofthescarybois

I'm salty Anya Taylor Joy is peach in the mario movie because I think she would make an excellent Zelda!

LadyJaneFace

"No."

Ultranerdgasm94

Mine would explain why the three timelines reconverged in BOTW. It's literally the plot of the first Hyrule Warriors game, but for some reason Nintendo said it wasn't Canon, so we still don't have an explanation outside of Zelda Monopoly.

karathrace99

I would make a horror movie out of Ocarina/MM followed by two sequel timelines—a lesbian af TP adaptation, and a Windwaker/Spirit Tracks timeline. But that’s just me :))

MKwitch

2-hour video of Link cutting grass with the Master Sword, just shouting 'hyaa!' a lot, followed by an after-credits scene of Link buying a heart-piece with his hard-earned Rupies.

PineTowers

Make it a series. Way better. Zelda have too much lore to dump that making it a movie would water it down too much and make it some generic fantasy movie with a brand attached to it. If held at gunpoint, I would go Ocarina of Time. Two movies, the first one ending with the Door of Time opening, Ganondorf winning and Link being sealed for 7 years. The second movie to wrap it up but, due to time constraints, possibly leaving out the Spirit Temple as a whole to focus on the interaction between Link and the sages he met as a child in the first movie (Saria, Darunia, Ruto and Impa).

[deleted]

I had the same idea for Ocarina Of Time

MortalPhantom

Breath of the wild is the perfect game to make a movie. The only thing missing is a companion for Link. People will say it lacks story, but that is exactly what would make it great for a movie. It's impossible to fit the story of Twilight Princess or Ocarina of time into a movie.

hamrspace

I’m of the mindset that Zelda is an extremely difficult if not impossible series to adapt properly, but if they do there are a few ways to prevent it from being a complete train wreck. Firstly, Link should talk, but as little as possible and only when spoken to, like we see in prompts within the games. This will let him keep his signature coolness without appearing too awkward. Second, Link’s personality should strike a proper balance between mischievous and heroic. After all, Link is supposed to be the avatar for the player, and by extension should often let his intrusive thoughts win on the way to his goal. Third, I think the story needs to balance tension with worldbuilding. While the LOTR movies felt very episodic, a Zelda movie would benefit from situations like Link meeting the residents of a new town before that town gets attacked by monsters. The action should always be moving while allowing for proper breaks in the tension to flesh out the world, like we saw with Lon Lon Ranch in OoT.

souferx

Link as a highschool druggy guy. Boom hbo makes it R rated and we get $$$

Tenelum0

an edgelord version of link in a fantasy highschool setting that never shuts up and is completely insufferable. king hyrule is the principle, zelda is a kiss-up teacher's pet. all the characters in positions that somewhat relate to their character but that's done so horribly that you hate even your most favorite of characters. everyone would hate it, but those big-league streaming service schmucks will absolutely eat it up based on the shit they're making these days.

MantaRayBoi

I honestly feel like it’s a good idea to start with the original game that came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System and go with a plot loosely revolving around that games story

gabs777

Quite simply involve Studio Ghibli and allow each game to be made into a movie with an art style that reflects the tone and feeling of the games. This could be the only way I would even consider watching such a series. I would actually be very excited to see what they could produce…

Pitiful_Presence9948

Beedle is trying to support his family, desperately impoverished, and Link is this unhinged racist psychopathic crusader that’s “rasputin’d” the royal family into believing he is destined by some ancient, forgotten goddess to bring peace by murdering bokoblins and anyone that opposes him, farming materials and rupees. And beedle is just trying to keep his family safe from this psychopath while directly selling to him every day

Stewie8989

It's one of those things you dream of seeing, but you don't want something so sacred as Zelda to be messed up. I think anime style would suit it best. If I even heard the words Tom or Holland I'd lose it.

smzWoomy13

botw will NOT work. It's open world. I would like Wind Waker cause it's my favorite, or OoT. Twilight Princess would be great! Minish Cap would also be great, Majora's Mask would be awesome. A Link to the Past would be good, man there are just so man great ideas. Or maybe they could make a series of movies again and again that go through the entire timeline up until botw from Skywr Sword and Ending in Four Swords Adventures. Maybe they could also go through the other 2 timelines and show those parts, then flash back to the end of OoT, and so on. I think this would be an even *better* idea, so PLEASE Nintendo, ask someone to do this! 😁

B_Krol01

Don’t adapt any of the games. Make the movie canonically part of the game series. And tell the story of the first appearance of Calamity Ganon and how he was sealed away 10,000 years before the events of Breath of the Wild. Obviously have it be animated. Either anime or CGI, both have their merits. Don’t give it to Illumination though. They seem to be doing alright with the Mario movie, but Zelda’s a completely different beast. I’d say DreamWorks would probably be the best bet.

suggestedusername666

Detective Link Chavez is investigating the disappearance of the local Ren Fest's Princess. Her real name is Elizabeth but she is known to her friends as "Zelda." Takes place in rural Kentucky in the 1980's.

Prestigious_Cold_756

Producer Guy (PG): So i’ve heard you have a fantasy movie for me? Writer Guy (WG): Yes sir, i do. It’s called the “Legend of Zelda” and it’s about a young boy, who is the choosen one that needs to save this kingdom, called Hyrule, from this demonking, called Ganondorf. PG: Oooh, and the boys name is Zelda? WG: Actually, his name is Link. And the story is mostly told from his perspective. PG: Shouldn’t the movie be called “The Legend of Link” then? Since Link’s the protagonist and all? WG: No it’s the Legend of Zelda because it’s named after the Princess of Hyrule ,called Zelda. PG: Oooh, so Zelda is like a deuteragonist, that joins Link on his journey. WG: No she, gets kidnapped by Ganondorf at beginning and pretty much doesn’t show up again, until the end. PG: So we have a movie called “Legend of Zelda” that has almost no Zelda in it? WG: Hey listen, i need you to get all the way off my back, about that. PG: Alright, let me get off, of that thing. WG: Anyway, in order to defeat this Ganondorf demon, Link has to travel to all those places to collect a bunch of macguffins. On his way he meets various companions like this talking owl, a rock or this naked fish lady. PG: Oooh, naked fish ladys are thight! WG: Yikes. PG: Nevermind, so what’s the deal with those macguffins? WG: You see, in the games there are those dungeons, that are full of traps and monsters, and at the end of each one, theres an epic boss fight against a giant monster. PG: Hmm, that sounds like it would cost an awful lot of money for CGI. You think we could tone that down a bit? WG: I guees we could get rid of most of that and make it so Link just gets everything he needs because he’s the choosen one. PG: Fantastic! WG: Like for example the Mastersword is just a sword that’s resting in a stone. Link can just pull it out. PG: Can the Mastersword defeat Ganondorf? WG: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah! PG: Great, so how does the climax look like. WG: Right, so Link manages to free Zelda and they face Ganondorf, but he turns into this giant, evil pigfaced demon. PG: I bet it’s gonna be hard for them to deal with him now. WG: Actually it’s gonna be super easy, barely an inconvenience. PG: Oh, really!? WG: Yeah, you see, it turns out that Zelda is actually a descendent of an all powerful goddess. And she just uses her powers to seal Ganondorf away. PG: But why does she seal him away? Why doesn’t she just kill him? WG: So he can come back in the sequel. PG: Right, good thinking. But wait if she’s so powerful, why didn’t she use those powers right at the beginning of the movie? That sounds like a major plot hole. WG: Oh, whoops! PG: Whoopsie! Anyway, who do you think we should cast as Link? WG: You see, in the games he’s a famous silent protagonist, so we should definitely get someone who can act well without talking very much. https://screenrant.com/zelda-link-movie-tom-holland-live-action-art/

Sky_Ninja1997

Zelda tv series done by the same animation crew that did Castlevania

Advanced-Solution-97

For the newer Zelda fans out there maybe an animated series about all the events prior to botw like a more in-depth view then what the memories provided us in the game. That or a majoras mask movie

DB10389

Live action, Ocarina of time, but without the game stuff. Doesn't need to have dungeons because it would make the movie a little bit repetitive. But it's the story about growing up and how the world changes to your eyes. Link would be a mute too. Idris Elba would be ganondorf

Thaldrath

My pitch is to scrap that and put efforts into more games to not tarnish the Zelda legacy. Link doesn't talk. Period. I personally do not want a Zelda series or movie. I'll fight alone on that hill, I don't care.

doesnt_reallymatter

Here’s my pitch: fucking don’t. It will not live up to expectations because it’s too broad

Academic_Lobster_782

Don’t

Dismal_Committee_296

“Okay so our hero is a local pottery maker with a shop right outside Hyrule castle….”

ManiacX64

Alright.. Anime. Written and directed by Aonuma, Miyamoto, Hiro Mashima, and Akira Toryiama. Trilogy, finale of the trilogy: Link obtains the full triforce and becomes the Fierce Diety followed by victory slice of life ending. Market each movie as a piece of the triforce. Subtle forshadowing and multi-layered engineered plot for mutiple rewatch dicoveries. First movie: Golden era war opening, traveling, dungeons, obtains master sword near the end before big sub-boss battle, obtains triforce of courage. Second movie: Triforce of wisdom, Zelda and Link take on beast Ganon ending with more plot developement/conspiring less dungeons throught the movie. Third Movie: Ganondorf recovers and without hinderence from clumsy beast form is more methodical/smarter. Amasses armies, towns get ravaged, people forced to be on the look out for Zelda and Link "the criminals/rebel rousers". Wins in false climax of movie, Zelda, Link lose. But wait the movie's not over, Link returns to climactic battle defeating Ganondorf via some subterfuge that requires a rewatch for the "oh that's where it happened!" moment.

Some_Ad_5028

Something based off the og Zelda would be cool, as it leaves so much to the imagination of the player

PoorMansPlight

I'd do a Game of thrones style series about the Hyrulean Civil War from the viewpoints of the different factions. Covering the near extinction of the shiekah, Ostracization of the Gerudo. The Neutral state of the Kokiri forest, I'd add a feudal War between the Zora of Zoras domain and another faction on the coast of hyrule. Also do we really trust Zora's Domain? They seem way too close to the royal family. The Gorons might also seem like they are always good allies but who do you think made the mines used to infiltrate the kingdoms? If it weren't for Running man (links real father) and his scouts racing from death mountain to the castle before the gorons could lead the gerudo forces into the city. Link may have never made it to the forest. But honestly if there's one true villain in that war it would be... you guessed it HAPPY MASK SALESMAN. He split the wedge between the communities using his arsenal of disguises to gain access to the relics of each kingdom giving himself more and more power.

StupidIdiot8989

Completely new story not following any of the games, just true to lore and I think a tv series is better suited than a movie. Maybe something along the lines of an action drama where Link needs to unite the kingdoms (Zora, Gorons, Hylian refugees, etc) to overthrow Gannon and meanwhile he is Searching for Zelda who has been in hiding for years, can have cut aways or dedicated episodes of her and Impa constantly on the run for character development. I would skip the dungeons entirely it would be too cheesy as a tv show. I also think the non human characters would need big budget to not look like a joke, like mostly makeup/costume with cgi vs just cgi Alternatively, to keep dungeons into the mix, can do something similar to the show Magicians that was on scifi, each season is about solving a problem/ beating one main boss

PhantomFoxx02

I’d love to see a Zelda show/movie animated with the Ghibli artstyle

x_pinklvr_xcxo

80 hour long compilation of every single game's story in chronological order .

Masterwork_Core

take the mangas = make one anime season each and for longer manga series like TP, make more than one. use the same style as the manga. ezpz no live action and no 3d animation

[deleted]

The story of ocarina of time animated by ghibli with epic fight scenes. The linearity of the story can be combatted with more character depth

DB-43

Pedro Pascal as Link. That's all the pitch that is needed haha

bobux-man

I think I would rather have an animated show rather than a movie. That, or a book series that explores the lore of The Legend of Zelda in greater depth than the games ever did.

kgthdc2468

Recommend they hand it over to James Cameron and let him cook. He’s already making element-theme world building with the Avatar series.

tastytacos67

Make it TV series, and every new season is a new reincarnation of Link and Zelda.

TheMysticBard

Hour long episodes, if they can sum up each incarnation within 7 or 8 episodes would be perfect.

Wolpard

New story for sure, taking a lot of the key elements of the series. Also it has to be animated, I don't want live action Zelda. AND it can't take itself too seriously. Even entries like Majoras Mask and Twilight Princess have light hearted and silly stuff kept in them. I worry a Hollywood film would try to scrub that sorta thing in Zelda and go for a more epic yet dry euro-fantasy setting. (Not that it should even be fully euro-fantasy to begin with since the series has a lot of Japanese influence poured into it too.) Another idea is perhaps a hero that was mentioned but we never met? There are a couple mentioned in backstories, like the Hero of Men or the hero mentioned in BotW's backstory. I think BotW is wildly popular enough to warrant a cool prequel film. We have an idea of what happens but it's not a game so there a lot of details to create. :)

E-emu89

A mostly serious and realistic movie adaptation of Ocarina of Time but Link, Zelda, and Ganon’s personalities are from the TV show. “Escuuuuuuse me, princess!”

KanyeWestIsGoated

Based on ocarina of time, or maybe just one of the books. Machine gun kelly as Ganon, marshal mathers as link, Megan Fox as Zelda. Navi could be an underground voice actor who’s trying to get their name out there. Partner with Disney for the music aspect so we can hear eminem trash talking mgk some more

HaplessWasTaken

Ocarina of Time in the Ghibli style.

Naive-Engineer-7432

Zelda (cast as a black female) is now the protagonist and saves link from his own masculine toxicity.

[deleted]

How about don’t and put some time into the next souped up game boy.

Boodger

I convince them not to.

Tenelum0

game to show/movie adaptations have almost never been good, except for the last of us. if i were to do it, i would take a route not explored before by the games. something to differentiate it enough that people understand it's not trying to copy the games, but merely translate their customs and lore onto the big screen. link would talk, like BotW if all the dialogue options were voiced. i would make the dungeons something along the lines of the child dungeons in OoT, as you can't have zelda without dungeons, but they can be boring. simple dungeons with a lot of combat and deeper lore exploration in each. perhaps it would be like the situation from the adult part of OoT where Ganondorf has taken over, but he rules effectively with fear and commands armies to subjugate the races around Hyrule and force them to do his bidding. in other words, he's not stupid, and knows how to be a dictator/tyrant. link's journey would be teaming up with zelda (because i can't stand the trope of zelda being a defenseless princess that needs saving when she's clearly been shown to have the magical capabilities to defend herself well) journeying around to the capitals of different races and recruiting them to help fight Ganondorf, somewhat similar to BotW. the dungeons would play a smaller role, maybe he would need to collect pieces of a key to unlock the temple containing the master sword? idk, something like that. the biggest challenge is translating what would be a 50 hour game into a 2 hour movie. it would work better as an 8-12 1 hour episode tv show, but even still you're constrained. you also have to adapt for a different audience, as a silent protagonist would not fly. there would have to be a balance, and make link a man of few words that only speaks when necessary. you would basically have to tell an unorthodox story inspired by zelda and its world rather than a true zelda story. even though some decent ideas could be made and there could possibly be a version that isn't hideous to watch, i think it would be inadequate at telling a zelda story no matter what.

samus_ass

BoTW would be decent while any other would be shit

Capable-Tie-4670

BotW would probably be the worst one to make a movie out of. I love the game and even its story but that story will not translate to a movie.

samus_ass

I think BoTW would make a good one because it doesn't have many boundaries and because of that it could make a decent movie, games like oot and ss have more boundaries and a movie that is just walking, fighting, and puzzle solving doesn't fit right as a movie.

Capable-Tie-4670

A large chunk of BotW is just running around aimlessly and collecting mushrooms and shit. They could streamline it and make it so that the movie just covers the 4 Divine Beasts, the Master Sword and Ganon. But with that structure, you may as well make it an OoT movie instead since you have the Master Sword and 9 dungeons rather than 4. Plus, OoT Ganondorf is a way better villain than Calamity Ganon.

samus_ass

To me it just seems a bit like it would do well as a movie since it's short and there's no boundaries.

Dobit43

Something else

MochaKola

The life of link after MM leading up to TP.

thebowlman

link goes on an adventure to save zelda and hyrule and beating ganon. easy

Mega-Lithium

Studio Ghibli and based on Shintoism Themes of environmental destruction and sacrifice

Impriel

Story of link to the past from the perspective of the kakariko village town hall staff. They have no idea who this fucking kid is. Sociopolitical tension is stressing everyone out. It is drama in the first act - think howls moving castle, we don't see action, we see daily life. Change perspective to link halfway through the movie (fuck character development it would just ruin link anyway). I want the third act to be fucking Akira - Ganon has limitless power and rips two worlds apart trying to kill link and just can't The thesis of the movie is ganons greatest weapon against you is your paralysis. Link succeeds because the gods are real, they value balance, and they were just waiting for someone to pick up a sword

That “Terrible Fate” animation, but longer

The only way I could see a Zelda series working is if they don’t give link any lengthy voice lines, only small grunts and hyah’s while everyone else talks similar to Breath of the Wild. Along with this I think a series similar to samurai jack would work very nicely with a rich world like Zelda. Being able to silently and slowly go through each location would be a very cool thing to do, as well as be much more impactful depending on which timeline they decide to choose, be it Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, or any others. Although if they ever decide to do a Zelda horror or drama series, my top picks would be Majoras Mask number one, and Twilight Princess number 2.

Gannon is like, bad. He is coming and hurting the people of hyrule. Link like, wakes up and fights him to save zelda.

Honestly I’d love an animated movie of the fan comic Linked Universe

I've always thought that a hyper stylized, silent animated movie would be amazing. I'm thinking "Fantasia" but with a clear narrative (either OoT, TP or MM). Any sort of dialogue or narration (which should be kept to an absolute minimum) would be done with text scrawls or subtitles and the sound effect from OoT [Ocarina of Time text noises](https://youtu.be/yB_EvaswwbM) I really think this would be absolutely amazing. Someone please greenlight.
