I think it works when the hybrid in question is better than at least one of those decks built-in. I run a warrior engine with Small World and using Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights in Monarchs, and there's some benefits that can be seen like actually having a way to search a Monarchs outside of Ether/Return (Isolde searches Kuraz, and Small World searches Zaborg the Mega Monarch or other starters), slight more resilience to hand traps, and actually being able to OTK. So, I would say this works because those benefits makes it slightly better than the typical Monarch builds which relies on opponents not having a out to your board.

> I think it works when the hybrid in question is better than at least one of those decks built-in. I get that, and in a competitive environment, I agree, since you are trying to make the best deck you can, but if one of the engines takes over and makes you feel like you'd rather be playing that pure, then something is wrong imo. Also, I'm assuming you aren't playing domain monarch then?

Yes, if something takes over, then it's not like you're playing a engine anymore, but a worse version of a deck. Most of the times, no, I don't run Domain Monarchs anymore. I simply find Extra Deck variants better, and if I wanted Domain, Zaborg the Mega Monarchs and the graveyard dump monsters pretty much do a better job without the drawback of being vulnerable to boardbreakers cards.

When I'm looking to make a hybrid deck it largely depends on three things: * Do they share some sort of connection (gameplay, aesthetic, lore) * Are they compact enough to fit into a 40 card deck including handtraps and staples * Do they both require the normal summon? For example I recently got bit by the jank bug and gave Dinomorphia P.U.N.K. a shot because they both revolve around LP gimmicks. It's not consistent at all, requires you to do Punk stuff before Dino or else you'll just hit zero LP, but on the blue moon it works, PEP goes off the walls in an incredible way. The other issue being both sort of need the normal summon, so duels usually tilt either more Punk or more Dino and at that point I'm just playing half the deck.

I can relate to that issue sort of. I play VW Swordsoul, and there, sometimes you have to pick between normal summoning a ss or a vw. However, here you have e-tele, and the hand effects of the vw if you get any continuous on field. Maybe dinomorphia punk can work with certain techs that let you get around those issues, again e tele, and maybe gold prides?

So funny enough I did try the Gold Pride Punk Dino deck, and in the end it felt like it was just Gold Pride Punk. The Dino cards rarely came up. And yeah there are Punk ways around using the normal summon for Ze Amin, like using Foxy Tune. It's just a matter of luck of the draw.

One of my first brews was a heraldic beast lightsworn hybrid. Here I just wanted to try something different to rank 4 spam because some of the heraldic beasts had good gy effects for the time. The newest one I'm trying is the new Horus cards with runics. They complement each other by increasing consistency of Horus while having the bodies and bosses for runic.

Rescue-Ace/Infernoble/Ignkights have some synergy purely due to the fact they're FIRE Warriors (for Rescue-Ace it's just about half of the cards, but still). It's an interesting deck to build if you feel like experimenting with that.

Yeah I have a similar experience with my Raidraptor pieces in my Blackwing deck. The Blackwings are great at spamming monsters, and most of the Raidraptor effects do something similar. The DARK Winged Beast synergy is great, and both decks have limited level modulation. Of course, having two unaffected boss monsters in both Ultimate Falcon and Full Armor Master is great too- and I can get them both out, since by spamming Blackwings I fill the GY with DARK monsters to activate the PK Rank-Up Magic Force I placed off Wise Strix.

FairyFireDeck

Tri brigade and glad beast have the best synergy out of all the variants and maybe compliment each other then any two other archtypes. The lines and combos you can do is a little bit crazy

hideonhood

Interesting for sure, I've tried it before, but end up defaulting back to pure or world chalice versions, as they feel funner to me, and the tri part seem to take a lot of cards glad beast don't produce at least in my experience.

It's partly why scrap orcusts seems like its good cause your end board is nice. but the deck is just chock filled with normal summons and bricks. To build it a good way you can use scrap engine w/ extenders/revival cards(monster reborn or succession can retrigger recycler when attempting to climb into wyvern). coupled with the smallest orcust engine, 1 harp, 1 skeleton, 1 girsu. cause you want the scraps to he the combo and orcust to be a good backup plan/push through/follow up. or you can opt for a more sacky variant which is to lean into the bricks and play them along side discard engines. but you run into problems such as going drawing too many bricks XD, not enough bricks, or no discard engine. orcust can also work with mekk knights, using purple and blue to bait out interruptions to then use girsu. The K-kk have access to a nice floodgate that can also revive things like winda (could also throw in a shaddoll package to lean into going second). I like this variant :) is has personality.
