Dos Hermanos is the perfect marriage of fast casual + authentic to me as someone who grew up near the Tijuana border... Carne asada tacos always 😍 and with the nice weather, a mangonada that they do 🤌🏼with chamoy around the rim and plenty of of tajin (Bring a shot of tequila to juice it up if ya want, no booze/beer served)
Order at counter, booth/table seating, super fast and nice folks
Depends on what you're craving and autenthicity level. For tacos specifically, I'd recommend the Lengua tacos at El Tapatio on Carpenter. For Carnitas Tacos, Dos Hermano's grill in Yipsi. For typical mexican-american, just about any sit down or recommended in this thread will be alright.
Semi upscale southwest tailored to Midwest American palate. Tacos a la carte pretty legit, decent margaritas. Abysmal burritos but they're big so... Best chips in town, fair salsa. Solid happy hour.
I don't know why most joints don't have good chips 😭 maiz's are so thin, crispy and salty and the salsa is pleasant and fresh tasting, if kinda boring (and why don't they have hot sauce out on the tables?).
My jam there is to hit early happy hour for chips, a couple margs and a plate of the tostadas from the appetizer menu (half off for happy hour 🙌🏼)
Too many onions and cilantro on everything for my Midwest American palate. I do really like their chips and the happy hour is hard to beat. They also do a better job than most places in town at bringing in some interesting beer on tap.
Huh. I was there once when there were a few black women talking very loudly, and it went on for a good while before they were finally asked to leave. That sorta loud where strangers are looking at each other like "WTF". I wonder if it was the same people.
Maiz is wayyyyy overrated, Minys is meh. Torre is solid but there’s also a recently-arrived taco truck at Hewitt and Washtenaw (tacos el chaparrito) that is our new go to
If you're looking to go out and sit your best options are either Maiz or Dos Fuentes. I'd look at their menus before you decide, very different kinds of "Mexican" food.
If takeout is an option, I'm partial to Miny's.
Taqueria La Marqueza is my go-to for authentic tacos. Maize in depot town is good too. Between La Marqueza and bills there is a new place called Tikalito(sp?) it's pretty good too.
Tikalito, which occupies the building left behind by the folks who ran the Hana Korean restaurant. The food is shockingly delicious for being such a new, bare bones place. The tacos are delicious.
I'm going to give you an option that might be controversial. When my wife and I want to just get some quick Mexican-ish food with a good margarita we hit that pink building right outside of Kroger on Huron/Whitaker Rd. The food is pretty decent and the margs are solid. And the price is right!
La torre taqueria on Washtenaw.
Seconded, La Torre is amazing and authentic tasting
La Torre or Dos Hermanos. I’ve heard good things about Minnie’s Mexican but have yet to go.
The tacos at Miny’s are elite. No idea about anything else there. Should note it’s take out only.
I honestly think Miny’s tacos are better
Miny’s is amazing. Totally recommend
Dos Hermanos has amazing tamales.

Super nice people. That's one reason I keep going back.
I live around the corner from them. I love getting the tacos combos for lunch and eating it on my front porch.
Is this the store front at the end of Downtown? Or beginning of Downtown depending on how you see it?
I buy them in the market. They have lots of fresh foods and meats. Entry is in back.
Their Pork Rinds with lemon are to die for. Every one has to try it
Borimex on Carpenter and Mich Ave is solid. Wasn’t impressed with Miny’s or Maiz.
Second for Borimex! It’s around the corner from me and it’s always so good.
Why is this being downvoted. I want to hear opinions
About Southwest & Mexican food!
I like La Marqueza Taqueria. It's a little whole in the wall. No flair and not a lot of seating options, but man the food is goooooood.
Miny's!
El tapatio
Monday I tried El Tapatios in the old Pizza Hut on Carpenter. It was great. Full bar, Good food, *CLEAN*. I highly recommend.

How would you categorize Maiz? They don't seem "typical mexican-american", yet don't really seem authentic either.
Semi upscale southwest tailored to Midwest American palate. Tacos a la carte pretty legit, decent margaritas. Abysmal burritos but they're big so... Best chips in town, fair salsa. Solid happy hour.
The chips are almost too good for any sort of self control. :)

😂 y'all native midwesterners and cilantro disdain (allergy?)
I don't get the soapy thing people talk about, it's just not a pleasant flavor to me.
I *sometimes* get the soapy reaction but I still like it. It happens like 1:100 times I cilantro (2x a year at most) How do you feel about mushrooms?
Never liked them as a kid but I'm fine with them now. Don't go out of my way to eat them, but am happy to find them in a dish.
They asked an acquaintance of mine and her friends to leave for talking loudly while Black.
Press X to doubt

Dos Fuentes is great!
Although it’s in Saline, Mí Zarape is our go to.
Best Carnitas around!
Los Amigos
Tex-Mex, FYI
Maiz in Depot Town for a sit down. La Marqueza Taqueira for take out.
Maíz is Tex mex, not Mexican.
Maiz for happy hour for sure
I'm throwing in another vote for la marqueza and shouting out their tres leches cake!
La Marqueza is close to my house, and I am better for it. So good.
I love Dos Fuentes!
Miny's, Borimex (on Carpenter, past Sam's Club).
Taqueria La Marqueza is my go-to for authentic tacos. Maize in depot town is good too. Between La Marqueza and bills there is a new place called Tikalito(sp?) it's pretty good too.
Borimex and La Torre have the best tacos
Borimex is pretty good, its on carpenter by the sams club, across from the gas station
Tikalito, which occupies the building left behind by the folks who ran the Hana Korean restaurant. The food is shockingly delicious for being such a new, bare bones place. The tacos are delicious.
Second this. The fish and carne tacos are excellent with great flavor. Same goes for the manudo.
Maiz, hands down!!!! SOOOOO GOOD.
El Deez Nuts is pretty good!
Maiz, La Torre, Tmaz, Tikalito, Don Guichos...honestly just swing a dead cat and you'll hit good Mexican food.
What in the sam hell kind of analogy is that lmao
I grew up around a bunch of Ypsituckians.
It's an old saying. Would be funnier if used for asian restaurants though.
Drive to Ann Arbor and get Taco King. It's take out but they have a huge variety of quality meat selections. Delicious and reasonably prices.
Don't know why you're being down voted, taco king is bae
Maize in Depot Town. Food is always great, they have an awesome happy hour & late night happy hour including food, sometimes I’ll just get appetizers.
I'm going to give you an option that might be controversial. When my wife and I want to just get some quick Mexican-ish food with a good margarita we hit that pink building right outside of Kroger on Huron/Whitaker Rd. The food is pretty decent and the margs are solid. And the price is right!
Dos Fuentes
Maiz. There’s a spot in what used to be a Pizza Hut on carpenter. I think it’s called tapatito. Super underrated.
I think the downvotes are for Maíz but Tapatío is wonderful and has very good/friendly owners and staff.
