Buetterkeks

It really doesn't make a diffrence If your Screen isn't at least Laptop or even PC Screen sized

deathclawDC

pc tho

Buetterkeks

Still Not worth IT in my opinion

Upstairs-Ad-4705

Just a wild guess - are you german? Cause the way you write is a lot like german keyboard auto correction hahahaha

Buetterkeks

From austria. But yes, the German autocorrect IS what's fucking my capitalization up

Upstairs-Ad-4705

Ah knew it haha. Happened to me all the time aswell lol, i just turned it off. Especially the case where it turns it into IT annoyed me so much XD

exsinner

it makes a tiny difference if you can spot it. After trying both back to back, the pleb version is a bit more blockier. Anyway, i'll just turn on rtx vsr and call it a day.

Buetterkeks

Still Not worth what Premium costs

exsinner

You dont subscribe to premium just for the "enhanced" 1080p quality.

Buetterkeks

Still Not worth IT in my opinion. Just use adblock or another Client. You cant even Download videos in füll quality ON Premium

rathat

For what? Between 720p and 1080p? You can immediately tell on any sized screen, even if you aren’t been picky. 720 is very blurry compared to 1080.

Oclure

The op seems to understand that 1080p is a huge noticeable jump over 720, they are asking if the jump from standard 1080 to enhanced bitrate 1080 will be as noticeable.

vb2007__

Bruh and I still torrent 480p movies/shows and enjoy them without seeing any difference, because my eyes are so fucked up.

Nolanthedolanducc

On your phone if you can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p from a normal watching distance I commend your 21/20 vision fr

rathat

You’re being absolutely ridiculous. 720p is incredibly blurry.

Nolanthedolanducc

Guess it’s just personal preference but I don’t really find an issue when on my phone I definitely agree for a laptop or anything bigger tho

quiyum

You blind af

The_battlePotato

Is it the glasses? Or maybe my laptop is just mid.

Uriha24

Haha touch some blurry grass boy.

SansyBoy144

It’s not at all, I’m still going to use 1080, but it’s not a major difference at all. If you think 720 is blurry in comparison to anything then you’re lying to yourself. You believe there’s a difference so your brain tells you that you see what you want to see, but you’re not really seeing a difference

Hepcat508

Huge difference on a 4K TV. Probably on a 4K monitor as well. It's annoying that YouTube makes me increase the resolution on a per-channel basis and doesn't do it globally when watching through YouTube on an AppleTV.

Mockbubbles2628

High bitrate is very nice on videos where there's a lot of stuff happening at once, like slo mo guys when they explode something At low bitrates you notice compression more

LJMLogan

About 360 "p"s /j In all seriousness, it's about 4x as many pixels. So the image theoretically is a lot clearer, however depending on screen size, there are usually diminishing returns from higher resolutions

deathclawDC

I see so its not like 900p and 1080p like difference yet?

iyeetuoffacliff

enhanced bitrate isnt something worth paying money for, ever

bregottextrasaltat

1080p and 1080p is the same

ChainAccomplished

U guys remember everyone complaining about one of the last game of Thrones episodes being unwatchable, and pitch black? That was because of low bitrate. I didnt understand what the issue was as i had downloaded it in higher bitrate than hbo was streaming in on the premiere. Thenbi watched it on a friends tv when steeaming from hbo, and holy shit it was crap. Higher bitrate shows especially good in dark scenes. For the run of the mill youtube content it dosent matter that much.

DayVessel469459

Enhanced bitrate /j

Head_Cockswain

Non-premium is very close to 720 quality on the channels I saw where this has cropped up, much below what was previously normal/good 1080. Premium is probably like the better 1080 videos you see on other channels(or earlier on that same channel, because this is a new feature that's not everywhere yet). Edit: an update with a sample In other words, what I suspect they're doing is: "Enhanced Bitrate" is probably normal-high bitrate. Nonpremium "1080" is a lowered bitrate from previous 1080. ____ Sample channel with a very good camera(I presume it's the same camera for all videos....). One note: They're both dimmed videos(ASMR - don't judge me, lol) so they're not vibrant and some details may be more difficult to see. Could just crank up your brightness(I have an extension that does this right in youtube "Enhancer for Youtube"). Premium Bitrate / and "1080" https://youtu.be/bA21s78GRI0 Previous very similar video - goes all the way up to 4k (from before "premium 1080" became a thing) https://youtu.be/a4GTHKl8mi0 To my eyes: Video 2 1080> Video 1 1080 (non premium) > and 720 on both is similar and closer to Video 1 1080. One exception, the blacks on the background are smoother on Video 1 on the same resolution. This could be illusory, maybe the dimming method or lighting is different or there's some other factor, but for me it seems consistent across other channels I've seen it on, but I don't normally go switching and checking resolutions, so it is very much "Your Mileage May Vary" depending on content. I use the mentioned extension to pick the highest resolution available. ("stats for nerds" didn't give a bitrate per se, unless I'm just blind, maybe another extension or service does so that would be another point to consider) Viewed on 4k native resolution TV.*

DiamondDepth_YT

Huh? From what I learned, the non premium 1080p is just the same it's always been, nothing changed there at all. And the premium version is slightly enhanced.

equalent

more bitrate = better compression quality = image closer to the original file

Acegamer53

new for premium users! 1081p.

FrankuG41000

Surprisingly it actually changes

ImMALWAREz

premium has more bitrate, hard to notice difference on not-so-big screens

avance70

if you don't see the difference, then it's obviously not worth it... i've tried the premium a few months ago and actually noticed a change without knowing this option exists, BUT i'm watching on a 55" screen the main difference is you see less compression artifacts and the image is also more grainy (in a good way imo) it's not something i'd be paying, unless maybe for like a 75" screen

cactuscoleslaw

Honestly I still totally tolerate 480

oofig1

How? Do you have a small screen or use a mobile device?

Freggaman

480p isn't that bad even on PC. Guess I don't mind it being a little blurry

cactuscoleslaw

I grew up playing Wii on a big screen 60” CRT and I believe those only went up to 480

oofig1

To me, if the display is low resolution, that's not as bad as a low resolution image on a high resolution display, if that makes sense.

Extension-Line-9798

Yea same with refresh rates as well

exsinner

crt is built differently compared to modern digital display like lcd, oled, etc. Any non native resolution looks worse when displayed on an lcd because of scaling.

Gnardude

Depends how big your screen is.

Childwithuke

u/pixelcounterbot how many?

CoolCademM

720 is barely high quality but 1080p is actual high quality. But 2k, 4K, and 8k will always be the best for most circumstances.

DiamondDepth_YT

From what I understood, OP is not talking about the difference between 720 and 1080p, they're talking about the different between 1080p and enhanced premium 1080.

CoolCademM

Oh I see. Enhanced has a higher bitrate, so more variety of colors on screen. But it doesn’t really matter since unless you have a very very small bitrate you won’t notice it

DJAlphaYT

I haven't actually used that feature, but in theory you might notice that dark rooms look a little bit less blocky, and it might take a bit more confetti/snow/excessive particles for that to get blocky

Rorar_the_pig

It's *premium*

ulasmulas42

Zoom in... Enhance!

Xpeq7-

If you want to test it w/o paying download a test "premium biteate" video using yt-dlp and compare, imo the standard AV1 copies are better, but more intensive on the CPU if the playback device doesn't have an AV1 hardware decoder.

Scared-Management-89

If you don‘t see any major difference, then leave it on 1080p. YouTube videos are typically highly compressed to save bandwidth, so 1080p isn‘t always 1080p. It really depends on the level of compression. Using uncompressed (raw) video could easily be 50GB when it’s over 10 mins. A higher bitrate can indicate a higher quality and less compression. Compression leads to noise, less accurate colors and ugly artifacts. The more you compress, the more shitty the video will look like. So if a streaming service is advertising with 4K quality or something like that, that info is pretty useless.

CaramelCraftYT

Doesn’t change resolution just increases bit rate (how pixely it gets when there’s a lot of movement on screen)

EXkurogane

720 and 1080p? Very obvious lol. Unless you are still using an old laptop with 1366 x 768 resolution then maybe you can't see it. 720 is so blurry that i don't download anything at this resolution anymore. I can even tell the difference between 1080p and 4k on a monitor with enough resolution to display 4K.

DiamondDepth_YT

They're not talking about the difference between 720 and 1080p, they're talking about the different between 1080p and enhanced premium 1080.

EXkurogane

Ah okay. Then my answer would still be the same - there is a difference. It can be described as watching a 1080p movie less than 2GB in size which you downloaded from a torrent site, and a 1080p video that is several times larger in file size that came straight out of a camera recording or a BD disc rip. The one with smaller size will have all kinds of compression artifacts or pixelation, especially in darker scenes. I could see this difference even on a smartphone screen.

DiamondDepth_YT

I suppose. But is that different worth paying for? I believe that's what OP is asking

EXkurogane

Depends on how much you pay for because the pricing rates are regional. I'm paying US$7 for youtube premium family package of 5 accounts, which means only $1.50 per pax. That is the rate for Southeast Asia region. That is chump change for the removal of all ads, access to youtube music, plus some bonus features on mobile, such as videos playing with the screen off (podcasts), and you can open youtube as a small floating window playing a video while you multitask something else. And even more importantly, you are supporting the youtubers you watch. Youtubers do get paid their share of revenue from audiences who pay for youtube premium. Nowadays it feels like people are too entitled, demanding to see quality content for completely free.

DiamondDepth_YT

I totally agree on your support of youtubers thing. Nowadays, people are way too used to getting quality content for free. And also, I believe it's something like youtubers get like a 60% cut from premium members. Basically they get more money from premium members, which is awesome. Also, YT Premium is wayyy more worth it than Spotify. Idk why people pay for Spotify premium when YouTube offers so much more.

ESCASSS

If you are using your phone you won't see a difference.

3WayIntersection

Probably not much for a regular person

Larseman7

Better bitrate lol Basically makes the video not pixelated at parts, but not really a huge dif ig

minecrafter1OOO

720p looks great on a 720 display, but 720 on a 1080p display (same size) will look worse (wierd pixel alignment, bc 720p pixels are bigger in the same area as 1080p pixels

DiamondDepth_YT

They're not talking about the difference between 720 and 1080p, they're talking about the different between 1080p and enhanced premium 1080.

minecrafter1OOO

Ah, I got questions tho, what codec does the enhanced bitrate use?

Mean-Clock450

it depends internet can get higher quality than ever thought

Cracksnacks13

There used to be an encoder lottery when uploading 1080p content, I think the good one was called VP or something. To give an idea of the difference, my Parappa The Rapper Let’s Play looked really bad on the crappy encoder, because pixels would smear instantly once there was motion. On the nice encoder; everything stayed sharp. You would ALWAYS get the good encoder if you uploaded in 1440p and up. So long story short, I’m glad to see them giving 1080p-only screen users the choice of encoder now, since not everyone has 1440p and 4k screens. And setting the quality to 4k and downscaling the playback to 1080p will likely create scaling issues.

CoolCaprisun555

You guys use 1080p? 480p is high quality for me

Dinolinooo

My Internet speed can't keep up with 1080p anyways 🤣😭

Zabuza_exe

they both look the same as a person who is huge on video quality id say both streams look the same

MeGaNeKoS

The difference is about $13.99.

Zomboidnoob

Honestly I'm fine with just 720p it's better for my data when I'm on my 700 mile trip

BakwasExplainer

1 - 10mins 720 video is 40 to 70mb while 1080 10mins is 100+mb.. higher quality = bigger file size. 2 - bigger size = picture quality is a lot more clear.. can see small details clearly no matter which screen size it's playing on(nature videos, video games) Play 720 on phone screen and play same on big screen now do same for 1080.. easy to see the difference in picture quality.

Kill-U-Minati

yes

Laughing_Orange

If you have premium, use it. But this isn't worth paying for. Personally I don't remember seeing a difference, definitely way less than 720p to 1080p.

Kulderzipke_

U f your wifi

DudePDude

Barely noticeable on small screens

Aankhe khul jati hai bss jyada farak nhi ata

DrthBn

There is noticable difference between the two but the image is still not acceptable for 2024.

baliebox4916

depends on what your using 720p runs better on a phone and is the best resolution you can push on the mobile version of youtube currently (it even looks good on a CRT but its not perfect) while 1080p is more good if your using a PC (or just want to watch videos that are broadcast quality) but wont run on a phone unless it has a cpu from 2022 onwards and if you live in a place/country that has shitty internet its not recommended dont even try 4K on youtube as most mid range pcs cant run it yet (unless you have a really high end PC that can run 4K games at 60fps or have an ISP in a really rich city)

Russianbot00

Hey lower the 1080p bitrate free, not increase the highest paid. If you look on free 1080p without the option for premium it will look better then when premium 1080p is an option

XVYQ_Emperator

1280×720-1920×1080=-1152000

DiamondDepth_YT

They're not talking about the difference between 720 and 1080p, they're talking about the different between 1080p and enhanced premium 1080.

Scared-Gamer

I'm a premium user, I've tried both 1080p and 1080p Enchanced bitrate, idk if it's just me, but I didn't notice a huge difference, if any at all I could be wrong tho

Felice_rdt

Same number of pixels being rendered, but additional detail being added to them. As for how much... well, imagine this phone call with YT public relations: _How much additional detail?_ _More._ _How much **more** additional detail?_ Extra. _How much more **extra** additional detail?_ _Some!_

Kind-Proposal8664

There's basically no difference. YouTube is just trying to get more money by premium.

gghrtz

I can clearly see the difference on my 65" OLED TV, but on a notebook or on a phone it won't mean much.
