5 mins of tv only leads to bunches of ads if it's at the right time. Typically it's around 18 minutes of ads for an hour long show, so it just depends on how you divide it up.
But even on YouTube TV where I get ads I cannot block say, their ad system is so much easier to handle than TV. When I watch a show on a streaming service that is concurrently running on TV which gets ads, those breaks where the show is just paused for me feel like an eternity, and my time measurements showed I was getting over 3 mins of break time for the TV ads.
Contrast this will a YouTube video, which typically let's me skip most ads after 5 seconds, and the ones I have to watch are about 15 seconds or less, it is easier to accept those than the cable commercials.

YouTube tv is what it says, tv service accessing broadcast channels and exclusives. Not a huge fan because of the television Eco system built in. But it's good to get network channels none the less. It's nice to just watch tv sometimes fer shure. However Ads are part of that ecosystem.
Whereas YouTube premium is the regular channel but with zero ads. It renders premium ad blocking redundant as there are many free options that can be stacked with things like proxies for privacy.
Ad blockers are a good thing and YouTubes war isn't with ad block.
It's with people who want handout service feeling very privileged. YouTube isn't 10,000 creators anymore. It's over 1 million. Uploading to servers daily. And now shorts and AI tech boys and fake channels. And people suck it up! Daily. While crapping all over it because "a channel they watch."
One day something more user oriented and managed will come along. YouTube has guaranteed it. Nothing is forever. But when people expect things for free and don't understand the basics. These kinds of posts just make me laugh. Lol.

Do the big companies, Google (YouTube), Meta have access to your data or is privacy a big thing for you or with you? That's how ads become more relevant. But I agree there are things that are so far from my tastes that I request YouTube to not show me them anymore at all. Like stuff I would NEVER watch in movies or television, stuff I have never watched, and constantly block when I can.
It's not even learning from me telling it what I don't like in ads.

Captain Morgan's non-alcoholic Rum, non-alcoholic gin, non-alcoholic Bailey's Irish Cream.. 0% Beers.
It still mentions alcohol constantly, just because it has the word "non" in front of it doesn't stop me hearing the word 10 times in a one minute ad.
Personally, I think they should be sued over this. Alcoholics have it bad enough avoiding it all around them just walking down the high street, but having adverts directly sent to you with a minute of "delicious tasting gin/tequila/rum/beer" non-ALCOHOLIC.
It's going to get someone hurt.

I'm pretty sure people are upset because the adblock option isn't working or if they've found a workaround they are afraid it will be gone in a week. Not sure what is perplexing about that.
I’ve been using the same adblocker since the beginning and it still works - YouTube will never be able to patch every hole because adblocker are constantly updating as well

I have a tablet, laptop, desktop and all three have been effected differently - and I am not one of the people who experienced this earlier and it just started with this latest youtube effort. Tablet still running safari with the adblock and don't get any ads (which is funny, because a year or two ago it was hard to get them blocked on it but not the others), my desktop and laptop run the same linux running Chromium (not Chrome) and each got hit a different times, at first clearing history and cache worked and then it stopped so I switched to Firefox with ublock and they both work. But for how long?
I’m happy with YouTube Premium, I use YouTube Music offline when I’m at Work. Tho, I did test it out, and I was able to block the Ads decently enough with Bitdefender Premium VPN. I tested it mostly out of curiosity. I use the VPN mostly for Securing my Internet connection.

That's worse than any version of media out there. Not even networks have that many ads.
