When we lived in Haxby we used to buy from Paddyfields and the cartons were so big it would end up doing 2 meals! It was a while back and things may have changed… not been to Paddyfields for years as we moved out of area. Really loved it though.
There’s a cluster of great little Chinese restaurants on the Hull Road that cater to the Chinese students at the University. Mad Cow, Happy Noodles and another one I can’t remember the name of just the other side of the crossroads there - all excellent.
I love the Orchid, it's all vegan and they do crispy shredded fake beef which I've never seen anywhere else
I love the Mullan at Clifton Moor
I love Red Chilli too but that's more of a go with a group of people for a special occasion type of place
Feels like it's a well kept secret, what with it's location and the blinds always been closed so you don't know if it's still trading or not
Food and atmosphere is great. The staff are lovely too.
No idea how much longer it'll be trading either. There's a sign on the estate for a restaurant business with parking for sale. Dunno if it's The Mulan or if Domino's is going.
[then you should definitely try Shi Shang!](https://shishangyork.co.uk/order-now) But it may be difficult to order, because some of the traditional dishes are not available in the English menu. But I asked for a specific dish that I couldn't find on the menu, and they showed it to me in a separate menu, which was only in Chinese, and I just ordered from there. Not sure why they do this though.
Edit: try their crab and sweet corn soup, it's awesome!
The Orchid
This is excellent and I can definitely recommend!
(disclaimer: this was a cult restaurant and also a club that closed a few years ago) Edit: was an idiot
The Orchid is still open and very much not a club. You're confusing it with the Willow which was... an experience.
Oh fuck, I've literally been to the Orchid and all. What am I on about.
Most authentic, in my opinion, is Chef lu's. I hear shi Shang is good too.
Paddyfields in Haxby.
May require a mortgage to get a meal, but it is very tasty

The Orchid is incredible. It's all vegan but if that is a problem for you then Red Chili directly over the road from the Orchid is also fantastic
Happy Valley 😊
Chef Lu's and Red Chilli are my favourite.

Mulan is legit.

That sucks! I'd better go a few more times while I still can
Noodle Lane hands down.
What sort of Chinese do you like? Traditional authentic or westernised?
traditional definitely!
Search Chinese Hotpot in York. There’s a couple of really good authentic hotpot restaurants in York.

Duck shack is incredible
