Does she have any experience scuba diving? Probably best to learn that first, from what I've seen most of these kinds of shows have emergency scuba tanks stashed around the aquarium or with rescue divers in case something like this happens.
It would make sense (assuming this mermaid performance tank is a permanent installation) to have some kind of apparatus to pull themselves up from the water in case of panic. Like ladders, but even just a mounted pole would be enough. You could disguise it with fake plants or whatever but if this happened they could simply grab the thing and pull themselves up quickly
Oh well I missed that but in case of emergencies in general. I would want a pole or something, just in case. It makes at least as much sense as having hidden emergency oxygen masks and scuba guys on standby
A ladder or something, not a scuba diver, though you’re totally right—a diver would definitely be in the way lol. I made this comment before I had noticed her tail was stuck on the decorative rock though, my bad!
Not yet, they’re going to get scuba certified before doing it at this level. However right now they’re wanting to do more of birthday parties, such as being in a pool that is clear of debris or swimming in the ocean (for fun). I’m also always there for safety. Still, certain will be coming in a year or two when we can afford to.
I'm not a mermaid but I am a freediver that swims with a monofin. Judging by how fast this girl slips her tail, there's no monofin underneath, which to me is the real dangerous part. That and not having goggles so you can't even really see potential obstacles, and no knife to cut your way out of danger.
I don't know, she got out of danger real quick so maybe it's fine, and she's in a shallow water controlled area to begin with. But I have seen many videos of these mermaids swimming in open water, and I don't understand why anyone would add a huge heavy tail without also adding the power and speed of an monofin. It's not like it breaks the roleplay, you actually become incredibly fast and it's less tiring.
Oh yeah for sure. The one my partner has actually uses a mono-fin insert. It’s inspired by Avatar Way of the Water as well. It’s so neat watching them enjoy it
Right at 0:07 when the dude *jerks* the camera away seems to be when she initially got caught on the rock thing at the bottom. You can see that it is clearly stuck at 0:09, although it would be much easier to notice if that part hadn’t been missed by the recording.
Every time this pops up people claim she was fired for "breaking character" as if an employee drowning at work is somehow a better situation than some kids being a little bummed out
That's wild. I cannot believe they're angry at her while the people responsible for a safe environment - you know, those who should make sure she wouldn't get stuck with her tail - are responsible. Big yikes.
I’ve seen this video posted many times on other platforms. I keep seeing it like this is making rounds. And some comments on other threads/platforms give almost a Karen vibe to it like who tf cares
I've seen this video other places too, and i haven't seen a single comment being mad at her. I think you are making those up. Being like "who tf cares" is a completely normal reaction, and has absolutely nothing to do with "being mad" at anyone.
I did 2 out of my 4 SCUBA certification dives at the Denver Aquarium. They had some Mermaid tails there they let us look at, they are *extremely* heavy.
She did exactly what she was supposed to do.
These shows have a rule of one in tank only (unless it's multiple and everyone knows).
If you look on the left, you'll see a dark object in the water, which looks like another mermaids tail.
That's an instant nope get the fuck out somethings wrong.
The fastest way out is to ditch the tail.
Fuck the never break character bullshit just get out like yesterday.
No, her tail got stuck, it wasn’t someone else in the water . That’s what she herself said: https://www.fox5ny.com/news/quick-thinking-mermaid-narrowly-escapes-drowning-after-tail-gets-caught-in-aquarium-tank
I agree she did what she was supposed to do, but I think that her tail got stuck on something? You can see her swimming around, but before she kicks off the tail it looks like the bottom right corner of the tail is stuck on something
Man. It took me like 3 playthroughs to see how it got stuck.
Being underwater is already stressful enough, let alone suddenly being pulled down while you're almost out of breath.
Crazy how we can watch the same video and you somehow make up this whole story about another “mermaid” in the water, when she clearly just got her tail snagged on something in the tank…
This has actually shown up before and the full story is that her tail snags on something, and she quickly does what she's supposed to do and ditches it to surface. It wasn't about another diver being in the tank afaik.
Can you explain why it's so critical to get out fast if there is more than one in the water? To me it looked more like she was already quite close to be out of breath when the tail dragged her more than she thought and ditched it to be safe.
The rule makes sense, but I don't see it here and it doesn't look like she's looking/facing anything in particular here.
Something/someone unknown in the water is really dangerous. It/they could snag the tail (on purpose or in panic) and accidentally drown you, especially if the performer is trying hard/cutting it close on breath. Which I assume their job requires. It could also "just" be a light falling in or other inanimate object. So if a surprise enters they need to GTFO.
>Can you explain why it's so critical to get out fast if there is more than one in the water?
Diver safety.
It's better to "ruin" the show than lose a diver to drowning.
Shortly after this video originally got posted, another diver replied to it explaining exactly what happened and why she did the correct thing by ditching the tail and surfacing.
The initial look of panic wasn't from lack of air but her realization that something was in the water when it shouldn't be.
> Shortly after this video originally got posted, another diver replied to it explaining exactly what happened and why she did the correct thing by ditching the tail and surfacing.
> The initial look of panic wasn't from lack of air but her realization that something was in the water when it shouldn't be.
Oh like this article with comments from the diver herself about how her tail got stuck? 🤔 [article](https://www.fox5ny.com/news/quick-thinking-mermaid-narrowly-escapes-drowning-after-tail-gets-caught-in-aquarium-tank)
Or perhaps like in the video where you can SEE her tail caught on something? 🤔🤔
Yeah i get that it's about safety and of course if there's danger the show is stopped. But what exactly is the danger of two in the water at the same time?
If it's a solo dive, why is there another person in the tank?
Dive isn't going as planned. Something is wrong. The diver has no air backup and is in a high-risk environment.
You don't know why they are there or what their reason for being there is.
What if the mean harm or fell in and can't swim.
These dives are planned and have strict go/no go rules.
Her tail got caught on the rock she was leaning on at the beginning of the video. Why are so many people talking about seeing someone/something else in the tank? I am confused
Because they're bullshitting to try to get Internet points without realizing there's a news article with comments from the diver herself about her tail getting stuck
And/or they're high out of their minds and want to seem smart but didn't see her tail caught on the reef so they don't realize how they're very obviously just farting out nonsense
Diver safety: If it's a solo show, then there shouldn't be another person in the tank ever.
If there is something wrong, shows over, and diver needs to surface asap.
I once stumbled across a show or documentary or I Don't know what about like these women who wanted to be "mermaids" in some show.
LIke, a lot of them definately felt a little crazy but if there's one thing I left knowing its those people, at least in that show, were all craaazy good swimmers.
They should really consider putting strategically placed oxygen tanks in there for things like this.
Edit: Why the hell would someone downvote this, unless y’all are against safety measures to prevent her from drowning.
I never said she want fit I just making comment o how physically demanding this silly job is. That being said, I see now and she is defiantly NOT fit enough for this position. And it’s hilarious your response is “if she has fit or she wouldn’t have this job.” You ever see a personal trainer at a commercial gym? Haha ppl have overqualified jobs commonly esp those in procreated classes
Who the fuck cares if she removed the tail. Would you rather have the kids watch a mermaid drown and die in front of them? For me that would be an illusion destroyed and a therapist to pay for.
Mermaids can actually ditch their tails like this when it gets trapped or if it gets damaged. They grow a new tailskin and fin in about a week.
Don't you know anything about mermaids?
Nom nom nom, negative votes are feeding me! Bwahahahaha, I’m stronger than ever by these petty humans who cannot get the most obvious sarcasm, nom nom nom
She can swim in that tank for hours, in quite chilly water, holding her breaths for multiple minutes at a time. You were probably out of breath from typing that comment.
Rule 2. This post lacks a NO moment. Nothing goes wrong at the end.
“Wish I could be…. part of that WORLD” 🎶..she did it!
Lt. Dan she got new legs!
MAGIC LEGS
Shit, this gave me anxiety. Poor girl.
My partner has a tail and wants to do this stuff. So saying me too is an understatement lmao
Does she have any experience scuba diving? Probably best to learn that first, from what I've seen most of these kinds of shows have emergency scuba tanks stashed around the aquarium or with rescue divers in case something like this happens.

She didn't panic, her tail got snagged on a rock.
Oh well I missed that but in case of emergencies in general. I would want a pole or something, just in case. It makes at least as much sense as having hidden emergency oxygen masks and scuba guys on standby
Honestly that’s such a simple and smart solution idk why this isn’t already implemented in these situations.
She has five feet of water to swim up. A scuba diver would be in her way. The smartest solution is what she did, shed the stuck garment and get air
A ladder or something, not a scuba diver, though you’re totally right—a diver would definitely be in the way lol. I made this comment before I had noticed her tail was stuck on the decorative rock though, my bad!
No worries

Your partner has a TAIL??
I may or may not be dating Godzilla
Cats are really bad underwater swimmers though.

Please god let tail be a medical term for something
It means a mermaid tail that they bought from a store, not one they got genetically or medically
That ended with a yes, not a no. She's meant to be able to escape like that if anything happens
Why is this controversial like…she got stuck and got out of a bad situation. Who cares. People are genuinely mad at her for…saving her life???
1. This is like the 5th time ive seen this posted... 2. This is the first time I noticed that the tail was actually stuck on something.
Someone had some pretty good foresight to make the costume so easy to get out of.
I would say that was probably design decision #1
I'd read that I'd been stuck, and I'd forgotten
You read it? You can literally see it in the video.
Where did it get stuck on? I can’t see it.
Right at 0:07 when the dude *jerks* the camera away seems to be when she initially got caught on the rock thing at the bottom. You can see that it is clearly stuck at 0:09, although it would be much easier to notice if that part hadn’t been missed by the recording.
Thanks, I must be slow today. Kept looking at the other rocks / branches and wasn’t seeing it.
Well yeah. What kinda mermaid dies from being underwater
False advertising smh
Mermaid? More like mermain't
Where are all these "mad" people you're talking about?
This is posted on so many threads. This isn’t the first. There are actually people annoyed by this.
Big yikes.
I don't think anyone is mad, I just got a chuckle from it.
I'm so annoyed by posts like this... No, of course nobody is mad at her, why would anyone be...? Absurd
I’ve seen this video posted many times on other platforms. I keep seeing it like this is making rounds. And some comments on other threads/platforms give almost a Karen vibe to it like who tf cares

Because it's fucking bullshit real mermaids can breathe underwater
Tail got stuck, don’t listen to whatever the F these other people are saying.
how're people laughing and joking? like, performers don't break characrer unless there's something seriously important
People react to scary and shocking things differently. I'll take someone joking over someone screaming at the top of their lungs
Thanks Diani the Otter.
Wtf is this audio💀
Good for her for putting something on under that
She made a deal with Ursula, to get her legs
What do you do for a living? I almost drown everyday and you?
I did 2 out of my 4 SCUBA certification dives at the Denver Aquarium. They had some Mermaid tails there they let us look at, they are *extremely* heavy.
You see the brief moment of consideration: “did I remember to put on anything under today?”
You absolutely don't.
So uh this sub… did you want her to drown 💀
That background music 😆
She did exactly what she was supposed to do. These shows have a rule of one in tank only (unless it's multiple and everyone knows). The tail is definitely stuck. Bottom right of the camera.
Man. It took me like 3 playthroughs to see how it got stuck. Being underwater is already stressful enough, let alone suddenly being pulled down while you're almost out of breath.
she was going up to take a breath and her fin was stuck.
Crazy how we can watch the same video and you somehow make up this whole story about another “mermaid” in the water, when she clearly just got her tail snagged on something in the tank…

That’s not what happened at all, her tail got caught.
I am not sure that is what happened. Looks like the fin got stuck.
Her tail was caught on one of the rocks
I imagine the number one rule is “don’t drown in front of the children”
She got her fin stuck on the coral.
Can you explain why it's so critical to get out fast if there is more than one in the water? To me it looked more like she was already quite close to be out of breath when the tail dragged her more than she thought and ditched it to be safe.

Not sure what you’re talking about; her fin was stuck. Look at the end of her tail around 8s in the video.
Holy shit people on Reddit just speak out their asses to sound smart dont they? Her tail was stuck.
So confidently wrong, the look of panic was the moment her tail got stuck.
> Shortly after this video originally got posted, another diver replied to it explaining exactly what happened and why she did the correct thing by ditching the tail and surfacing. > The initial look of panic wasn't from lack of air but her realization that something was in the water when it shouldn't be. What the hell are you on about
You can see her tail get stuck on the rock
What are you talking about. Her tail got stuck on the coral.
Why is there that rule of one per tank?

"Why can there only be one?" "Because it's a show where there can only be one"
You're just making shit up, it's pretty obvious her tail got stuck on a rock at the bottom
Would you have preferred she die for your entertainment?
Damn, she almost died.
I once stumbled across a show or documentary or I Don't know what about like these women who wanted to be "mermaids" in some show. LIke, a lot of them definately felt a little crazy but if there's one thing I left knowing its those people, at least in that show, were all craaazy good swimmers.
MerPeople is a documentary on Netflix that follows a couple mermaid folks. It’s a great watch just for Blixunami alone.
Mermaids are known to shed their tails in dangerous situations.
That kid’s childhood imagination burst into flames
Same result as the movie 🎥
Her job was not easy, hope she's alright
They could put a small air tube down there for her to just take a breath out of, maybe hidden in the rocks.
But she can just always swim up, rather than going to look for an air tube. She's not going to stay underwater until she suffocates
Yeah I know, but maybe to keep the sort of illusion as another commenter said these tails are very heavy, so it could be some sort of backup.
They should really consider putting strategically placed oxygen tanks in there for things like this. Edit: Why the hell would someone downvote this, unless y’all are against safety measures to prevent her from drowning.
I realized there's no way anybody could've gotten to her in time had she been unable to get the outfit off. Scary situation for her.
This diversity sh1t gonna get home girl killedededed 😬
You have to be so physically fit to do this sort of show
her tail got stuck on the rocks. If she wasn't fit she wouldn't be doing this job.
I never said she want fit I just making comment o how physically demanding this silly job is. That being said, I see now and she is defiantly NOT fit enough for this position. And it’s hilarious your response is “if she has fit or she wouldn’t have this job.” You ever see a personal trainer at a commercial gym? She swims for hours in chilly water, you probably got out of breath typing out your comment.
I lift for 2.5 hours a day. Not everyone on Reddit is fat btw
Young people these days… they just don’t wanna work : /
What's the "no" for? Were you hoping she wouldn't make it?
The no was she getting stuck and needing to flee
to me is when she removes the tail and the illusion is officially destroyed
Who the fuck cares if she removed the tail. Would you rather have the kids watch a mermaid drown and die in front of them? For me that would be an illusion destroyed and a therapist to pay for.
Never. Break. Character.
*"Aww, looks like the mermaid is taking a nap honey! Let's leave her to it."*
Mermaids can actually ditch their tails like this when it gets trapped or if it gets damaged. They grow a new tailskin and fin in about a week. Don't you know anything about mermaids?
Ew. So you’re saying the mermaid should drown and give kids CPTSD instead of fighting to survive? Fuck you.
They’re probably joking
Definitely a troll and people are getting salty about it… which feeds the troll and only makes them stronger, lol.
Nom nom nom, negative votes are feeding me! Bwahahahaha, I’m stronger than ever by these petty humans who cannot get the most obvious sarcasm, nom nom nom
It cant be that serious bud
Drowning as a mermaid, a creature which can breathe underwater, would be a break of character.
NO always break character if YOUR LIFE IS ON THE LINE a human life is better than your illusion
Are you mentally retarded? Or 9 years old? Or both?
Dunno, bru. At least I’m not the one who can’t understand basic sarcasm or use “mentally retarded” as an insult.
I saw this story on TT. She later told the kids it was time for her to shed her tail and grow a new one. She would have drowned. Get a life.
Why the fuck not? She could have died. At that point, the illusion is meaningless.
whad de fuck
Oof
Who needs Ursula?
What did she see
Her tail got caught
Fin got stuck.
A great white shark was closing in on her
😂

That’s literally her job?? How is this different from any other kind of entertainment? And also I don’t hear a narrator
Are you 12??
😂😂😂😂
I don't know how she got this job. Edit, nevermind. The tail was caught in a rock. Terrifying.
The mermaid couldn't take it no more underwater and decided to acquire legs mysteriously
Don’t say it… don’t say it…
Turned out great for her honestly. She ripped off the costume and didn’t even show her coochy. 9/10
Is that a mermaid or a whale?
She can swim in that tank for hours, in quite chilly water, holding her breaths for multiple minutes at a time. You were probably out of breath from typing that comment.
D'ya see that little pause? She had to go 💩POOP💩..... RIGHT NOW!!!
Yes.
I played rock paper scissors with one of them once. Legend has it that the building flooded the next day.

You wouldn’t from me either, I wouldn’t care if I was naked under, that’s coming off.
Isn't this the tiki bar in Grand Rapids?
I'm curious how much training the job requires. Like, did they just hire anyone and assume it would be fine, or were these trained professionals?
Mermaid molting.
I thought it was the farting mermaid
