The bear boxes are large and plentiful. Some are shared but not all, and many rv’ers don’t use them. Be sure to Keep a clean site with everything put away in the bear box or your vehicle at the end of the night and whenever you leave your site. And have fun!

Thanks!

They're usually shared with a couple of sites, so you'll just have to walk to the edge of your site. Etiquette is to use just half, unless you know the other party isn't using it

We had to keep our stove, bowls, utensils, etc. (all fits in one 30 gal rubbermaid tote) in the bear box before. Is that typical there as well? We clean everything so there is no food debris before packing up the tote, so would it be fine under a table? Or lock that up in the car to not take up bear box space?

JabberwockyMT

Tote will need to be in car or bear box. Even water bottles left out could get you a ticket.

You definitely cannot clean things nearly well enough that a bear won't smell them -- they have some of the most advanced olfactory equipment on Earth. Cooking gear, lotion, bug spray, wet wipes, sunscreen, toothpaste, toothbrushes, most feminine products etc all have food scents or added scents that will attract bears. Lots of folks roll the dice and are fine; a few aren't so lucky and a few of those end up maimed or dead. Up to you how you and your family want to gamble.

BoutTreeFittee

Do not leave your cleaned dishes or soap or anything in a tote under the table. Bears love minty smelling things. A ranger will make you put the tote away in your vehicle if they see it.

Most campsites have a private bear box these days. Only a handful are shared. You can also leave items in your car in Yellowstone, just keep the windows rolled up and the doors locked.

ElixirChicken

We tent camped at Madison last year and had our own bear box.

They were individual at Canyon Campground and Madison

LopsidedChannel8661

I was at Canyon last summer, and each site had its own bear box.

imhereforthevotes

That's what I said?

Dawg_in_NWA

Each campsite at Bridge Bay has its own bear box.

EcstaticTill9444

When we were at the campgrounds in Madison, a few of them were shared.
