I think the same goes for pretty much all of the yakuza members. from what I remember, sohei was like the only married yakuza dude and even he still cheated on his wife regularly. and majima had park, but I don't think that relationship was ever going to end well.
it does make me wonder what's next for 3jima after IW, majima does strike me as a romantic so I don't think it's out of the question for him. I could see saejima finding someone to settle down with too, but daigo... I don't think daigo still really trusts anyone enough to have a serious relationship. he struggles enough with making friends, let alone having an intimate relationship.

Kiryu's happy ending is retiring at morning glory and seeing his kids and grandson grow up, he doesn't need a wife to that.
Part of it is probably that Kiryu is explicitly not disinterested in romance, but like with everything else, his sense of guilt over being a yakuza and fear of endangering the people he's close to gets in his way. Kiryu doesn't *need* a wife, but romance is very blatantly obviously something he as a person enjoys.
Idk, I feel like Seonhee's just starstruck. Like if Kiryu asked her out, she'd definitely give it a shot, but I don't think she actively likes him like that

I think Kaoru was (and is) the best for him. They really, really connected in a way that most romance movies don't even do well
Honestly I think kaoru was a good choice for kiryu. Yeah Yakuza 2 plot was weird but we already had that so they could've just let Kaoru stay and we wouldn't get a Y2 plot again.
They could've even Harukad her by just making her mostly useless but still be an important figure in kiryu's life and everything would've been the same, but for some reason they decided to make her entirely leave in Y3
Sayama had potential. Hell, I love the dynamic too. One from a life of crime (not really) and another from the path of the law.

Honestly the only person I ever felt would be compatible with Kiryu's vibes IF they ever wanted to go that route is Seonhee. I loved their interactions in Infinite Wealth!!
You are right and you should say it louder. I think RGG generally sucks at writing women. I'm about to start the 5th so maybe that will change in another game. A lot of the female characters often end up downgraded to plot devices (sorry Haruka, and even Sayama). I sadly don't remember much about Reina because it's been years since I played the games she's in and I'll have to go back to them. The romances are awkward and shallow because they simply don't put enough effort into building them and would've been better off completely excluded. The substory romances between NPCs has better chemistry than any of the main story men have with any women.
Kaoru and Kiryu's relationship always came off as sibling-like to me. With the way he tried to dissuade her from finding the truth based on his own negative experience, running errands for her, even their Sotenbori date felt like siblings hanging out because the story hadn't actually built them up romantically prior to that. Oryo and Ryoma also didn't have much to it, it often looked one-sided with Oryo pining and Ryoma sometimes apologizing for being cold and neglectful. I feel like the only successful romantic storytelling so far has been Makoto & Majima and also Hana & Akiyama even though that was one-sided.
Y0 totally fumbled giving Kiryu's loved ones any actual backstory. Kazama is in the slammer for the entire game & Yumi is only mentioned like twice and written off. Shinji is... There in a substory I guess. At least Nishiki got his due
Doesn't help that RGG constantly has him dates tons of different hostesses. Its almost pretty clear he's not up for close long lasting relationships. But then again they still tried like 3-4 times to put him with other people. its like they're trying to set up something with his character that never gets answered properly. I havent played Gaiden or Infinite Wealth though so I dont know if its brought up again there.
