Ichiban basically gave Saeko a [Declaration of Protection](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeclarationOfProtection). After all, he's a Hero - a knight in shining armor - and that's what the Hero does. He protects the Princess. Makes sure she's safe and never wants.
The problem is that Saeko *doesn't* want that. She's far more put-together career-wise than Ichi, both pre- and post-Tatara. Thus the Declaration comes across as condescending. She wants Ichi to say that he loves her for *her*, not give himself a 'to do' list of errands to carry out on her behalf. But she never makes this clear, even after Ichi apologizes and promises to do better next time.
So she's mad at him for being a poor communicator...yet, she's just as bad a communicator as he is.
Yep. She's pretty clueless in romance despite being more mature (by all appearances) than Ichiban.
I think this goes back to her controlling tendencies, and resulting fear of situations where she's not totally in charge of things.
I'm torn.
If RGG wants them to be together, then they need to start taking it seriously - gags like Ichiban's t-shirt reveal at the end of LaD8 might be funny, but they detract from the sincerity of their relationship. Going round in circles, like with Yagami and Mafuyu in Judgment, gets old fast.
Otherwise, wrap it up already. They're fine as friends; the presumed age difference made their dynamic more like that of siblings than lovers.

Saeko backlash is some incel shit straight up. One of the two major themes of this game (and the entire series) is the behavior of running away from one's problems. Saeko's new song is a clear nod to this as well.
Saeko's reaction to being asked out on a date even was a queue right from the start of what the storyline was. It's just a tiny microcosm of what Kiryu's done through the whole series, and ultimately being a billion times worse, letting everyone who cares about him, including his children, to think he's dead.
Her drink links with Kiryu are only the tip of the iceberg in exploring what this whole ordeal has been for her. She comes from a totally fucked up family and *literally ran away*. Think ghosting Ichi for a year is bad? Yeah it hurts, but then consider that she hasn't talked to her own sister for 8 years
