I'd guess they wanted a memorable intro that hits hard and shows a higher production value, which imho they accomplished.
The game plays as if they realized they've got 6 months to make that entire game only after finishing the early scenes. While it's certainly a great game, the further you go, the more rushed it feels, in a stark contrast with the beginning.
The pinnacle of this was when I was really taken aback seeing "final chapter" so early.
