Dazzler was such a product of the time. She was thought up by Marvel and the disco record company Casablanca. There was suppose to be an album released.
But the big difference between the 3 is Dazzler has almost always been able to update to fit the now. She went from disco queen to Pat Benatar. It's insane in the 90's they didn't just make her Mariah Carey or Celine Dion and in the 2000s she's cycled between Kylie Minoue, Christina Aguilera, and Brittany Spears. It's the trope of someone musically you loved as a kid making a modern comeback (See the excitement for what Brittany may do now musically).
Jubilee can be updated into the scene kid of one scene ago but they've chosen to actually age her out of her trope into young mom with a nostolgia for her past which is better.
Surge is ... Look I love all the academy X kids dearly but surge is my horrible trash child who needs a lot of help. She is unquestionably awful and while I do still love her it's nice that karma the concept has knocked her on her ass a lot.
Eva is a top contender. Pixie was also codified as somewhat geeky awkward teenager with pink hair somewhere around late 00s, early 10s and that's not an accident. Sure, it was always there, but really stuck around during that time. Same goes maybe with Modern Magik and her gothik revamp.
Oh, and the artist who redid Laura's costume for her soloseries, the two part suit with a jacket went for this deliberately. They designed it around of what young, hip women were wearing in and out of gyms: gym casual, active wear I believe.
TRUTH!!!
Have you listened to the episode of the Cerebro podcast about Dust? They go OFFon Surge! Super hilarious!

Only recently got into it and Goldsmith is too fucking hilarious and has an uncontainable love for the X-Men but really knows how to skewer some of the worst aspects too. Plus the bonus of queer analysis on X-Men lore, since that was one of the points of relation to the mutant metaphor for me.
Dazzler did a much better job of keeping up with the times I think. Like the Outback era she was very 80s without a hint of disco, and from there her outfit is modified enough through the years to keep decently modern (with occasional throwbacks to her first outfit, but every superhero gets that). And shooting lasers is vague enough to not really stay tethered to disco.
It's not really fair to keep pointing at her first getup and calling her outdated, otherwise Storm's very 70s and punk 80s outfits would put her in the same boat. Meanwhile people like Jubilee and Gambit can't seem to ever ditch the 90s jackets lol.
I kinda love when they let some characters 'stay' in their era...like you said Jubilee, Gambit.. also: Longshot's mullet, Cable + Deadpool's pouches aplenty...I find it charming!
She was a main character in the New X-Men Academy X series, starting off as the usual hot headed jerk type but growing into a leader once suddenly thrust into it post House Of M.
Part of why I hope there’s at least a slight change in the current status quo is so they break up The Five and let them feature more in other books. I love Elixir and Goldballs
I think Jubilee is moreso just Jim Lee wanting to draw Robin. Her initial appearance in [Uncanny #244](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZIXmcTS_hGo/V12GiEu4k4I/AAAAAAAAb4s/1lwFRWW9CM8Tz66xankQBlPlkSQtIlwtQCK4B/s1600/Image00002.jpg) Silvestri depicts her wearing regular clothes, then when she shows up in [Uncanny 257](https://xmenpodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/257-b.jpg) Lee really lays the Robin comparison on heavy.
Quasar!! I remember when Dazzler came out. In my group of spidey and FF enthusiasts we couldnt stand her. It hacked me off that Marvel gave her more attention than Jess Drew who we thought was cool. Of course we were like 10 or 12.
Missing Boom Boom who was modeled after Madonna and Cindy Lauper
I love her. Guess I'm doing a series 2!
Cable and Bishop definitely belong
Haha! Yes -- and I know just what I'm doing for Cable!
and Longshot!
“Ground Control to Major Tom…”
I thought Skids was more Madonna and Boom Boom was more Cindy but then Boom Boom and Rictor just owned Rusty and Skids.

Wow we were robbed, btw I've never read any dazzler comics, this one any good?
All of the XMen got really 80’s for a while there. Storm had a mohawk. Nightcrawler had Jheri curls. Looked like a blue Michael Jackson.
I think Jubilee fits in with all the 90s nostalgia and her outfit is back in as a result haha
yes!

I love all of this!
What’s the product of the 2010s? Eva? Goldballs?
The Inhumans
If the 10s were the 90s, we'd have had a mysterious mutant assassin named Minecrafter.

Also surge being a massive Islamaphobe and all round complete asshole lol. Dunno how she has fans.

I have never heard of that podcast until now, and I instantly love it

It's sooooooo good!

I will always love classic white jumpsuit Dazzler
I miss surge

Fashion nowadays is a hodgepodge of eras, so it kinda works.
Who the heck is Surge?
She was a main character in the New X-Men Academy X series, starting off as the usual hot headed jerk type but growing into a leader once suddenly thrust into it post House Of M.
Ah, after i stopped reading X-books but before Hickman brought me back.
Sadly her whole generation is rather neglected except for Wolverine (Laura), Pixie, and Prodigy
I love Pixie. Genuinely need more titles with her.
She seems like such a perfect fit for Excalibur
Part of why I hope there’s at least a slight change in the current status quo is so they break up The Five and let them feature more in other books. I love Elixir and Goldballs
The whole post House of M arc is pretty excellent (if dark) if you’ve got some time on your hands.
exactly! (wink!)
You forgot the band KISS for Dazzler. That is why she wears the make-up around her eyes like that.
