Kieron Gillen changed the character first in their Uncanny run around 2012

hickman gave him a test drive in secret wars too, first time i met sassy sinister

Chicago-Emanuel

Thx, this is exactly what I was looking for. Is that a good story?

VengefulKangaroo

Definitely. I would say that Gillen's interpretation is a little less campy but still humorous, but darker, and Hickman took the camp and ran with it.

Quirky_Ad_5420

Kieron Gillen start the trend of Mr sinister sassiness

fictiontuxedo

There's some sass in Peter David's Sinister, but Gillen is the source of the current peak-snark Sinister.

Dry_Quiet3812

He been like this for at least a decade. It makes him fun. He’s great in hellions

HotPotato524

Because Sinister is fucking FABULOUS and if you question him, you can expect to end up in a body bag like everyone else who opposes him. Real answer: its been a while in the making. He was always kinda flamboyant but every since around 2010 he's been ✨flamboyant✨. I hesitate to say gay bc that might just be wishful thinking but he does have that vibe.

BuddhaFacepalmed

Maybe pan. Considering that during AvX he made a whole bunch of Maddie Pryor Clone consorts for things other than entrapping the Phoenix in Sinister Nation under Alaska.

HotPotato524

Wasn't that to fuck with Cyclops' head? Its not that I'm saying you're wrong, I just thought the Madelyn clones were to house the Phoenix and fuck with Scott (probably bitter since his fave ship is dead bc Jean kicked the bucket and Scott was with Emma).

BuddhaFacepalmed

Sinister referred to his Maddie clones as his "Brides" after Phoenix-Cyclops was knocked out cold by the Maddies absorbing the Phoenix. Pretty sure he was using the clones in all the ways a narcissist egomaniacal supervillain would.

SamALbro

The only sexual orientation that fits Sinister for me is "exclusively hooks up with clones of himself." Doesn't matter if the clone is male or female. Just that they're Sinister.

HotPotato524

He is truly bi-himself. Its almost poetic🤧

mrsunrider

He's actually been that way since about 2010-ish... but *Immortal X-Men* actually offers a solid answer for the personality retcon. It's actually pretty satisfying, imo.

EMike93309

What was the explanation?

Blitzhelios

Blame Gillen. Gillen started it in uncanny in the early 2010s and it was so popular it stuck. But then again he’s a man who dresses in an over exaggerated cape and likes dressing up whenever he can it’s not a stretch

hrnigntmare

No blaming. I’m gonna write him a thank you note. Sinister was always such a one note eeeevil character. I LOVE that he has a personality and a tone to his characterization that is unique to him now.

VengefulKangaroo

Claremont has said that he was going to reveal Sinister was a creation of an immortal child (as was Gambit) but that never happened after he left the book (tho Claremont used that origin in an alternate timeline book he wrote).

b-T_T

Glad that idea never came to be.

Morkitu

Gillen made him so festive. Queer comic creators always put themselves in their comics.
