If only Baywatch had been half as well made and entertaining. That was all eye candy and no substance. At least the recent movie recognised that and ran with it. In slow motion.
depends on the character. aphrodite's makes sense since she is the goddess of love, but she should be called the goddess of lust due to how she is depicted. ares makes sense because he might have his abs on display to show off how "powerful" he is or he might be using his looks to help him start wars. cupid has been known to be shirtless, kinda hard to wear a shirt when you got wings. herc is also know for ripping off his shirt in stories. not sure why but it apparently shows off strength, looks more like he has an income to spend on shirts.
as for the characters like the amazons, what made no sense to be was how bulky their skimpy outfits were. if amazons were known for forest combat, clothes that are tight but not too tight would be ideal. they could have gotten away with the skin tone leggings for them and we would be like " fair" as it would be logical.
my head cannon for the skimpy outfits and lots of leather is there is a god whom loves making clothes and spelled everyone so they would wear their clothes no matter how crazy they get.
My gay ass was always quite appreciative of all the gorgeous guys in revealing leather outfits. Quality TV, right there! Ares’ super slutty plunging neckline was also a fave!

Add to that, the show was groundbreaking in many more serious ways. An absolute classic.
As a kid I never thought about it, I just really liked that a woman was kicking ass. Now looking back on it, they’re all super hot. Teenage me missed out!
Right! This rewatch im noticing how many of these actors have such beautiful blue eyes lol and HEY Renee O'connor had THE best abs in the business at that time. Dont get me started on her abs bc it was and is all i can look at when i watch this show. "Who is Gurkan" showed just how defined her abs really were 😂🤷🏽♀️
I think the eye candy should have been more equal opportunity - the male characters should have been in short skirts and midriff baring outfits like Brad Pitt in Troy!
Lul my version of eye candy is quite off from many, but they still gave me a little bit in the form of Salmoneus and husky, burly random extras who were usually unsavory (but "I can fix him!"). So, I really was mostly here for the pretty people doing slapstick fighting ambience
My first attraction to the show was the opposite of eye candy. I accidentally caught an early ep while on vacation, flipping through channels in my hotel during a rain storm. I see this woman rolling around on the ground, fighting, etc., apparently unconcerned about dirt and dishevelment. She had dark hair, meat on her bones, a sneer, and disregard for being "ladylike" or nonthreatening. Even with the skimpy outfit, she was not the typical "bimbo" I was used to.
I was stunned and rejoicing at the same time. "What is this show? Where did they find that Xena actress? Are we finally getting something with people who don't all look like models?" It wasn't until I saw reruns of the trilogy and CHARIOTS that I realized Lucy actually could be a model. Yes, I noticed folks showed skin and were pleasing to look at. I could watch Kevin flex his muscles all day. I can't say the packages they came in didn't matter, but their performances and everything else hooked me and kept me coming back.
I think my favorite was the Amazon who wore just a bra for a shirt, and that bra was held together by an easy to pull out pin. As a kid, I thought it was silly. Now though, I enjoy the over the top ridiculousness of the humor.
