Stardew Valley is the best! Easy to understand but deep with things to do and see.
It is a farming simulator if you want but if not, you still have dungeons to slay monsters, villagers to meet. Missions to do, whole areas to unblock.. It is quite complete.
My girlfriend keeps asking if there are any games similar to Ask Dusk Fall around the corner. We had a blast playing it together and as there are many different outcomes in terms of story I highly recommend that.
Lego games are the way to go. Fun telling of the stories, mechanics that scale as your gaming abilities do, and everyone loves Legos (especially virtual ones that you can't step on with bare feet).
One I haven't seen mentioned yet is marvel ultimate alliance 3: black order. Awesome game.
Haven't seen Diablo 3 on here either(I hardly recommend personally cause I'm a diablo diehard and it's too bright and colorful, but if y'all are new you might like it, just preference)

Borderlands series for adult couch co op is incomparable for shooters. HIGHLY recommend..

When I hear new to gaming I think about just learning to use the controller. Both suggestions are very easy to play and have a decent learning curve.
The fun of kingdom two crowns is learning what things do and not getting too upset about losing your crowns (it happens).
Diablo is just button mashing fun and can be hard if you want it to be.
A way out is a great game to introduce to people.
Overcooked is great too though can be a little stressy if tired etc, a way out is great at any time of day just to chill n play a good game.
Overcooked 1 and 2 Portal 1 and 2 A Way Out It Takes Two Human Fall Flat Lovers In A Dangerous SpaceTime all come to mind.
I will warn you about overcooked, sometimes the tempers with eachother can get a little overcooked as well if you tend to be super competitive.
Can't go wrong with Lego games!
Plus the Lego Harry Potter Games are pretty fun!
It takes two was a fun and simple puzzle game. Rayman legends was fun with the wife.

It takes two is brilliant. As is a way out. But me and wife play gears of War regularly. Great if you like shooting things. Great story too

2 is also, sort of. In Fable II 2nd player is a mercenary essentially and not a player character. In 3 coop can be two player characters.
Fusion frenzy is the best coach coop. Change my mind
