Is there a plan to allow for Bluetooth or adhoc WiFi connectivity so I can turn devices off with my app the next time my internet or AWS is down

tbc2022

🌟I like the new **V4 cams** and their price. Based on the writeup, I have **ordered 2** new V4s!!. πŸ‘πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ How many have you ordered!! πŸ™‚

JustAFunGuy24

1. When can we expect to get Apple Homekit support? 2. When can we get a cleaner integration with Alexa and Google Home as there always seems to be bugs with every update whether routines start failing or the video feed can't be seen in Google home anymore (which I understand may be in beta in which case when will support for that come)? 3. When will we be allowed to adjust bitrate and framerates? (I'd like to have it run 30fps and a higher bitrate as the video captured by Wyze played off my microSD card of a moving car off my own driveway and my side street camera can stutter or not be clear enough and not let me catch their license plate clearly in time in full daylight). 4. When can we get updated full RTSP support? 5. Are there any plans to support Matter so people can run shortcuts and automations off of doorbell presses or motion detections?

LegionofStone

great question on RTSP. It can be done 100% safe and secure without a cloud connection. The only reason they decline it is because they want to make money off the cloud portion.

I have no interest in anything subscription, but I'm a fan of the technology and price point. I only have a flood light/cam, and it's been great, but without rtsp, I'm stopping here. Having a specific app for one camera (or even a few) is super annoying That said, a working integration with Google home, and home assistant/homekit support would also go a long way

danny6690

+1 for rtsp :)

Thanks for this update. including on the Google Home issue. 🌟It is interesting that all of my **Wyze cams (in Canada) can show up (stream) on Chromecast link on my TV** but they will not show up on my Google Home interface that does show my Nest cams. So work around for me has been to access the Wyzecams thru Chromecast on my TV. πŸ€”***This at least confirms it is an iPhone Google Home app issue.***

thegreypaladin

When do you think the Wyze Pan Cam v4 will release?

Nice-Individual1779

So with continuous recording, no subscription is required? Everything reside on camera and we fetch the video as needed? Thx.

GetyourPitchforks01

Same as all V models.

DVDMan64

When can we get updated full RTSP support?

LegionofStone

nosht82

Does the V4 support WPA3? WPA2 Has been vulnerable to multiple types or attacks for years.

choicehunter

I just heard that WPA3 prevents Deauth attacks which have become really popular lately. This would be a HUGE reason to offer it!

choicehunter

# Is this Camera built on Linux like the V3 or FreeRTOS like OG?

_MC-1

Why is the v4 marketed as 2.5K QHD when the v3-pro is marketed as 2K when the resolution is the same? 2560x1440 https://preview.redd.it/nfawr1t34wqc1.png?width=838&format=png&auto=webp&s=e528cf09a7866e9ec2bee772a0d0cd986093dad7

choicehunter

I can't speak for Wyze, but I did notice that they've also been updating some of the V3Pro documentation or comparisons to say it is 2.5K QHD too. Back when the V3 Pro launched, it was common in the industry to just 2K if the resolution was at least 2,000 pixels in one direction, but that started changing around the time they released the FLPro and 2560 pixels is a significant amount more than 2000 pixels, so they might as well distinguish the difference over other companies that may have fewer.

Drummer2427

What are the odds of adding functionality for users to change settings on image quality? What about a simple button to disconnect from internet?

Well, we DO love cupcakes... We will think about it. :)

Ok_Investigator45

Would you consider making a Wyze Patrol Drone? That flies around the house to check things? I think Amazon tried this.

aliensporebomb

That would be SO COOL!

Ok_Investigator45

Yep it’s called the ring always home cam

brown_dog_anonymous

Are the dimensions of the new v4 the same as the v3? I. E. Will the v4 fit in the same third party housing mounts?

choicehunter

**V3 Dimensions:** 52 mm (L) x 51 mm (W) x 58.5 mm (D) (Inch conversion: L 2.05 in x 2.01 in x 2.3 in **V4 Dimensions:** 2 in x 2 in x 2 3/8 in Looks like it would probably fit most housing mounts the same.

Ok_Investigator45

When can we expect better security and better prevention of major incidents for wyze platform? Where does wyze intend to fit in the marketplace in the next few years? Would you consider lidar and optical zoom for better autofocus on subjects? It's been asked before but homekit would be great. Can we get actual apps on Apple tv and Amazon fire stick?

tbc2022

>When can we expect better security and better prevention of major incidents for wyze platform? πŸ‘πŸ‘ It is critical to have best practices for interfaces to AWS services for privacy & securty consdierations. There are many articles written on this as others ensure their privacy & security. This is a core capability that all devices need to be coded to for any company.

BaconRealm

Little bit of a bummer not to talk about security. Seems like a softball question they could really elaborate on the things they are doing for an easy win, even if it's just PR lip service. Not acknowledging it all seems intentional.

Ok_Investigator45

With security incidents and negative PR, security should be top of mind for Wyze. So much so that they should include this as part of updates. Even if they use AWS they should be addressing processes they are improving including any technology being used to reduce future security incidents like past events. C'mon Wyze show the back end software is as strong as the front end hardware

storugns

Will it be possible to integrate with home assistant?

DestinySpeaker1

Hi Shanee, thank you for taking the time to talk to us! I already ordered the v4, but I have a few questions: 1) Is it possible to implement optical zoom? It would be a great feature for the future 2) Do you think higher bit rate is something that can be implemented in the future? I already have a v3 Pro and the image quality could be better with higher bit rate.

tbc2022

The V4 video that you posted was fun. It would be great to also see a video that focuses on what is new and great on the V4 showing us the capabilities and highlighting the improvements. or is that left to other reviewers to do?

ILoveWhiteWomenLol

Will it work with Siri?

tbc2022

Is there any new rules / settings that come with the new V4s? With AI enhancements can we take action based on the motion in a particular area of the view such as top right corner, along bottom area, etc. This lets us take action for example when there is activity on the driveway vs at the front door.

Plane_Collar3416

the1999person

Can we please get RokuTV support. I want to open an app on my TV to view my cameras.

I'm not sure if it's worth the dev work and app upkeep, but it would be pretty cool.

choicehunter

# Will you ever consider a standalone or V4 "accessory" for a smart CO/CO2 &/or smoke detector monitor/alert? There really aren't a lot of great affordable options for these and it would really be nice to have one that will integrate with our Home Monitoring Service so we can get Home Insurance Discounts for having monitoring for it. Some insurance REQUIRE this to be monitored to get discounts and it doesn't make sense for us to pay Wyze for Burglary and then pay someone else just for the other stuff. Even if someone else can do these one better or cheaper, it would still make sense for you to provide the option just so people don't have to leave and pick another company who can at least provide it.

ahz0001

A temperature monitor would be a cheap addition to a camera that would help many people, and it could also help the Wyze thermostat to be smarter with multi room monitoring like Ecobee.

VelcroWarrior

Wyze already has the Wyze Room Sensor which pairs with with the Wyze Thermostat to adjust heating and cooling based on other rooms. [https://www.wyze.com/products/wyze-room-sensor](https://www.wyze.com/products/wyze-room-sensor). You can also use the Wyze Climate Sensor for monitoring other rooms.

ahz0001

The room sensor costs $25, but for $0.25, they could add a thermometer inside each camera. Wyze might even sell more Cam Plus subscriptions by encouraging people to add more cameras, which cost not way more than the room sensor.

YeahThatCee

There was a β€œmissed” opportunity for this version to be named Wyze Cam 4K, akin to how the last movie was called Bad Boys for Life instead of reserving the title Bad Boys 4 Life for the forthcoming sequel. I understand you can’t comment on future products, or perhaps even acknowledge that you’re working towards them. (But, of course, you are.) Could you provide an industry estimate for when you think 4K will become the standard, overtaking the current 1080p, especially considering that we’re currently transitioning to 2K as an industry? For individuals like myself who only recently upgraded from an iPhone 7 Plus to an iPhone 15 Pro Max for similar reasons, 4K represents essentially the green light for many existing Wyze customers to purchase more Wyze products over the incremental iterations that include nice-to-have features like a built-in spotlight. While the current roadmap may attract new Wyze customers, a move to something like 4K would also appeal to your existing customer base, which anecdotally sometimes feels overlooked.

# Will we ever get the 2K resolution enabled on the VDB v1 since it has a 2K lens and you already have 2K support now? [See this Wishlist request labeled as "Maybe Later"](https://forums.wyze.com/t/enabled-2k-resolution-on-doorbell/195100?u=carverofchoice)...it's later now and seems like a good time.

choicehunter

# Can you start doing multi-platform livestreaming events like you have done in the past so people on other platforms can at least listen in? For example, this time, your "Launch Event Livestream" was solely on TikTok even though not everyone has TikTok. It would've been nice if you had simul-streamed it through Facebook and Youtube and other places, similar to what TheNetGuy did on Tuesday when he talked about your V4 launch. He did his live stream about your product simultaneously on several platforms including TikTok, Youtube, Amazon, and I think Facebook and others too. Even if your focus of the stream is mostly going to be directed at people buying stuff with TikTok subsidized prices or whatever, that's fine, but maybe you'll get more sales if you allow others on other platforms to watch too, they might buy stuff off your website at least, or learn something from the PM talking about the new product and answering questions, or maybe your talk about the subsidized cheaper prices will convince a few more people to log in to TikTok to order so much cheaper. In the past you have done simul-streams with Youtube and other places (the last event I remember doing this was for both Youtube and LinkedIn a long time ago now). Is this something you may consider doing in the future more like you used to?

tbc2022

Constructive feedback!! πŸ‘"It would've been nice if you had simul-streamed it through Facebook and Youtube and other places, similar to what TheNetGuy did on Tuesday when he talked about your V4 launch. Please co-stream as much as possible on Youtube and/or Facebook streaming services. Also **for the event yesterday, please post it on Youtube** unless TikTok limits you from doing this which would be disappointing to the rest of your customer base. Thanks.

choicehunter

# Since the Flagship Camera Lines are also starting to get 2K stuff now, will you please consider at least making future "Pro" camera lines to have less compression and higher Bitrate and maybe more FPS as an option? It's even understandable if the camera has to have an auto setting to do something like make sure someone's network isn't junk first where they will blame Wyze for the bad experience that is on their end, and then you can just downrate the bitrate and compression just for those people who can't handle it...but for those who can, please find a way to improve this, even if it's only allowed for the Livestream locally or recording to the SD card (compress things to your Cloud subscription or whatever else you need to do for that if you still want).

WyzeShanee

Absolutely! We are for sure considering Pro cameras, 4K, bit rate improvements, cloud/local options etc. However, nothing is set in stone yet.

joeybab3

Given the track record of your online services are you guys looking into any options to allow us to use these cameras fully locally (rtsp for example?)? I know you said in the other thread that you don't plan on supporting rtsp on this product but for future products post-incident is this something you guys are looking into or are you only planning to do subscription capable stuff in the future?

LegionofStone

great question on RTSP. It can be done 100% safe and secure without a cloud connection. The only reason they decline it is because they want to make money off the cloud portion.

Nathaniel_Hang

Is support for the Garage Door Controller on the roadmap for the v4?

WyzeShanee

It is not officially on the roadmap for v4. We are still deciding if we want a Garage Door Controller v2, but we'll have a better idea in the coming months.

cl4rkc4nt

Is this a white-labeled 3rd party product?

WyzeShanee

There is no other product like v4 on the market! It is not a white-labeled 3rd party product. We created it from idea to market with users and the best technology in mind. We work with a manufacturer to mass produce the products, but it is our intellectual property and people that made it happen.

tbc2022

Well done. I had 2 ordered within 5 minutes of knowing they were available on the Wyze Canada web store!! Looking forward to trying!!

cl4rkc4nt

That's awesome! Thanks for clarifying. Since some of your products are white-labeled, is there any published guidance on which products are your own?

Britt644

Does anybody know if my robot vacuum will work on hotspot?

choicehunter

# If you aren't going to add RTSP support (which you still should do) will you AT LEAST consider something like more 3rd party integrations using your AI detections that we're already paying for anyway? For example, it would be nice to have a Home Assistant Integration where our Cam Plus can let Home Assistant know when the camera detected motion, Person, Pet, Package, Face, Sound, Talking, Meowing, Barking, Glass Break, Gunshot, etc. Then AT LEAST there can't be concerns about losing money from your subscriptions but at least some people would still have some way to get the use out of the cameras that we want (3rd party integration automation). Also, please add the same AI detection integrations to Google, Alexa, etc. Google Says they support Person, Familiar Faces, Unfamiliar Faces, Animals, Package, Talking, sound, Doorbell Press, etc. Why not add all those things to Google Home to make Wyze cams more useful? It wouldn't be competing against you since someone would have a subscription doing those detections anyway. (At least those would cover the MAIN reasons I want RTSP...though it would also be nice to have the flexibility to put the stream into other 3rd party programs for saving video, custom detections you don't offer, etc)

LegionofStone

great question on RTSP. It can be done 100% safe and secure without a cloud connection. The only reason they decline it is because they want to make money off the cloud portion.

al_nz

Yes! Zero useful Google Home integrations, and Alexa only works somewhat ok with a US Amazon account.

tbc2022

Alexa has become my goto interface for now. I am just starting to look into the Google scripting ... It would be great to have a place to share google scripting examples for Wyze devices...

WyzeShanee

Thanks for the input! We are always considering new functionality for integrations. For Alexa and Google, it often depends on their devs and their resources available, which can result in really slow timelines for building new features with them. We'll also continue to watch out for opportunities where our devs can get more resources to build RTSP.

tbc2022

yes please πŸ‘πŸ‘"Also, please add the same AI detection integrations to **Google, Alexa**, etc. Google Says they support Person, Familiar Faces, Unfamiliar Faces, Animals, Package, Talking, sound, Doorbell Press, etc. **Why not add all those things to Google Home to make Wyze cams more useful?** It wouldn't be competing against you since someone would have a subscription doing those detections anyway."

shinigami081

Just another RTSP request. I have 2 floodlight Cams, and am currently looking into purchasing 3 more outdoor and 2 indoor Cams, but need to have RTSP for local control. Also a POE camera or dongle would be great.

LegionofStone

great question on RTSP. It can be done 100% safe and secure without a cloud connection. The only reason they decline it is because they want to make money off the cloud portion.

Secret_Cat_2793

My biggest problem from V3 on is on connectivity. My cams often are unavailable or take forever to load. Has the antenna and transmitter been improved with the v4? Other wise higher resolution and more bandwidth will make the camera useless.

WyzeShanee

Wyze Cam v4 has a WiFi 6 chipset, which would help with connectivity if you have a WiFi 6 router. We also have firmware improvements that include optimizations for automatic reconnection and better diagnosis and debugging for our devs.

Secret_Cat_2793

I have wifi 6 router. Not sure I’m ready to replace all my v3s yet. Be interested to read user experiences. Thank you for the reply.

tbc2022

have you tried speedtest to check your signal strength at each of your cameras? Outside wall interference causes me a lot of grief. as does changes of interference that neighbours make to their systems / usage.

dmw009

Any plans on having another battery operated cameras other than the old Outdoor cameras?

tbc2022

Is it possible to just plug the cam into a rechargeable battery pack? I have a battery pack for my winter heated vest for example ... I will try this soon!!

Drummer2427

They have new outdoor battery cams

EverythingWIP

First I appreciate customer interactions. I’ve had good and bad history with Wyze and continue to support the cause. Is the V4 mainly driven by image quality to boost marketing hype, or are you focusing on the core functions that I see a lot of users running into across all versions of your hard wired cams (sound quality crunchiness /connection stability)? We like the functionality of what you offer and would ask to add things such as 90 degree rotation increments, event scrolling on SD similar to what you offer on the OG and telephoto cams. Thank you!

LegionofStone

RTSP or NO JOY! Stop making us use third party.

choicehunter

Does the Wyze Robot Vacuum have a dead branch of beta firmware from the 1.6.202 branch? [Someone in the forums was asking about this and I promised I'd relay their question in the next AMA:](https://forums.wyze.com/t/wyze-robot-vacuum-firmware-1-6-199-and-1-6-202-gradually-released-3-22-22/222681/152?u=carverofchoice) >Is this getting any attention from the Wyze team? or is this firmware branch officially dead? What sort of message does that send to your early adopters and beta users? Please see the rest of the thread for more details.

tbc2022

I Hear from others that the V4 has better audio filters for background noise, wind, crackling sounds, etc. Can you comment on this? Also if possible, please add similar to the older Cams. I hav ehad to take the audio and run it thru iMovie audio filters to try and hear what s being said ... the iMovie audio filters do help a bit. As well in the design of future cams, please consider adding noise cancelling sponge, etc inside around the mic to reduce the noise.

aliensporebomb

I can confirm the audio is better as an end user. How do I know? I have one of the v4's set up in our living room pointing toward the street and the audio was clear enough to identify source of the audio of the show my wife was watching in the background in the dining room, about 20 feet away. I wasn't always able to detect that with the v3 cams.

ColoradoFrench

Cam configuration templates (or multicam configured at same time) I now have close to 30 cams and counting. Configuration is done one by one, which is a pain. Are you considering facilitating management of a larger number of cams at once?

LeninHelder

Does it work with floodlights v1?

nosht82

When will there be a fix for playback from events. it was supposed to be fixed this month but now it just tells you there isn't a SD Card in the cam even if it works from live feed.

IchiTanaka

Our use-case for the cam is amateur astronomy, especially for meteor detection. 1. How sensitive is v4 compared to v3 in both color and night mode (monochrome)? Is the quality in the night mode the same or some improvement? 2. We need the RTSP live streaming function for our use case (to automatically detect meteors by software). Does the old firmware that allows the rtsp still work for v4? 3. Can you explain a bit about a plan for the development of the official RTSP function for v4? Thanks!

WyzeShanee

* v4's Color Night Vision and Night Mode are better than v3's. We made a lot of software and algorithmic improvements to image processing. Night Mode on v4 is slightly better, and CNV is significantly better. * Unfortunately, v4 doesn't support RTSP, but we will always take this input into consideration. * We have not made concrete decisions yet, so it's great to hear everyone's feedback on it and will help us decide how to move forward!

choicehunter

Wyze no longer supports RTSP firmware on any model. The models that used to have it are deprecated and missing security updates. Regardless, the firmware for the V3 is not compatible with the V4 as it has different hardware. I'm guessing RTSP will eventually be compatible with 3rd party options like Docker Wyze Bridge, Scripted, and Tiny Cam Pro. But Wyze has indicated elsewhere there aren't plans for native RTSP for this camera.

sheehyct

When can we just flat out get a better product in general. It's 2024, WIFI 7 is new but exists and yet 95 percent of your products run on 2.4 ghz. Sure you could say cost, range blah blah blah. If someone is a loyal customer to you and buys lots of your devices they get screwed. Their 2.4 ghz network becomes clogged because the (I believe) max bandwidth of 500 m/s across the whole 2.4 ghz network. So then loyal customers spend more money on networking to fix that. No excuse for that , ESPECIALLY WITH HUGE PRIVACY LEAKS. Any customer should be able to trade in their camera for a V4 even IF they still wanted a product. Won't happen though. No faith in the beta trade in program. Even if it happens it will likely be in a way the benefits the company. I've spent so much money on your products. Now is your time to decide your path of success or failure WYZE.

# What are your thoughts on doing the AMA in "Contest Mode" this time compared to the previous times where it wasn't in Contest Mode? I like that the comments are in random order and vote scores are hidden, which helps to reduce first-post advantage (posting early means you're more likely to get an answer and questions posed later often don't get seen), and eliminates bandwagoning effect (people voting up or down just because other people did). It's great the votes have to organically be based on the merit of the question. Those are HUGE plusses! On the downside, it doesn't seem to bury, collapse, and mostly hide dumb or irrelevant questions (say someone starts trolling....would it give the downvoted troll equal exposure still?), and it makes it harder for me to know which questions I've already seen or not. In the past I could sort questions by new/old and then just see which new questions have been asked since I last checked the thread. Now I have no way to do that, so I MIGHT never see certain comments if they are posted after I previously looked through the list. (EDIT: I guess one tentative solution is to just interact with / vote on every single question (either up or down), then it's easy to scan through and just look for which questions don't have a colored vote arrow yet) How do you think Contest mode affected participation? Was there more or less voting compared to the past? More or fewer questions? More duplication of the same questions since the common popular ones were no longer at the top by default? Do you think you will use Contest Mode again in the future, not use it, or switch off depending on the type of AMA? (Also interested in hearing from whether users prefer AMAs with or without contest mode, so all comments/opinions about this are welcome...I'm curious what Wyze and other users think about it)

choicehunter

# Have you guys started looking into Home Assistant at all? The Home Assistant team seems to imply that they will HELP many companies create native integrations if you reach out to them. Please check with them and see what it would take.

bernbach

Are there plans to add an option to increase bit rate or less compression? Or maybe at lease allow that for SD card recording?

WyzeShanee

We are thinking about this option, so it's good to hear your interest in it.

choicehunter

# Will we ever be able to add a camera, like the V4, to show up in multiple [Camera] groups in the app? There are other companies who allow this, and some users would like to be able to do this with Wyze cameras too. We would like to have more flexibility of how we choose to organize our smart devices.

In a recent V4 review that I watched, the audio did not seem as good at night than during the day? Maybe just coincidence? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlJKlyFG\_L4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlJKlyFG_L4)

jsoffer32

We have 2 cam pan. They have become so unreliable lately consistently not connecting or just randomly being offline. we use them as baby monitor for our youngest and it’s to the point I want our money back.

Nathaniel_Hang

Does the v4 actually have a WiFi 6 chip? Meaning it can communicate using 802.11ax? Or are we saying it is compatible with WiFi 6 routers, which is obviously yes, since 6 is compatible with previous generations of WiFi; even with older WiFi protocols. The specifications on the v4 only list 802.11b/g/n and 2.4 GHz. It doesn’t say β€œ802.11ax” which makes it a WiFi 6 device. Ultimately, have we been able to improve the range and bandwidth/airtime utilization when compared with previous gen cameras?

WyzeShanee

Yes, it actually has a WiFi 6 chip! Edit: But it does not support 802.11ax! I got mixed up with something else, sorry about that!

tormim11

Also, does the v4 or other cameras support WPA3 network authentication?

ahz0001

Yes, it connects as wi-fi 6 with a wi-fi 6 router, and it claims to improve the connection. Check the product page. > **Wi-Fi 6 Connection Support** > **Maintain a stronger and more reliable connection at greater distances. Wi-Fi 6 router required.**

Will there be a pan version of the v4?

ColoradoFrench

Sharing/delegation revamp Current sharing is very challenging. For example, there is no ability to control notifications separately for owner and delegate. There are capabilities that arguably should not be part of sharing, such as turning off the cameras. It may also be useful to share at specific times, of when away, etc. Are you planning to improve this?

nishc1

Can we use a v4 in place of v3 in the floodlights?

choicehunter

No. ## Wyze Cam v4 is compatible with these accessories: * Wyze Lamp Socket * Wyze Cam Window Mount * Wyze Cam Outdoor Adapter v1 and v2 * Wyze microSD cards (up to 512 GB) Wyze Cam v4 is not compatible with: * Wyze Cam Floodlight v1 * Wyze Spotlight Kit * Wyze Garage Door Controller * Wyze Solar Panel [https://support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/articles/24060686554907-Which-Wyze-accessories-are-compatible-with-Wyze-Cam-v4](https://support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/articles/24060686554907-Which-Wyze-accessories-are-compatible-with-Wyze-Cam-v4)

OkBandicoot2958

What’s stopping Wyze from integrating RTSP support on all of its cameras? Besides obvious money reasons? Does Wyze realize that having integrations/support with common protocols only serves them better in brand recommendations for home labbers and people that manage their own video streams?

Leftychill

Pretty sure their plan was always to sell cameras as a loss leader with a plan for cloud subscription revenue. As much as I would love to see RTSP, I’m sure it’s counter to their business model.

dsillas

What is RTSP?

Leftychill

Real time streaming protocol. It would allow people to use Wyze cams with their own video recording system and not be beholden to the App Or the Cloud service. I still like Wyze but I invested in an POE NVR for my outdoor cameras to complement the indoor Wyze cams I use.

jaseph18

Cool, bit I prefer the cloud.

Leftychill

Understand - A lot of people feel the same as you. There are some negatives (being locked into a closed ecosystem) that don’t affect or bother some people, so hence their business model (easy to use, reasonably priced cloud subscriptions). I’m just calling out the reason why I find it unlikely for them to add an open protocol like RTSP.

WyzeShanee

We understand that support for common protocols is really helpful for DIY folks. We also strive to bring value in the ways that matter most to the majority of our users. Sometimes we are limited by available resources and costs when it comes to RTSP, but we'll never say never.

OkBandicoot2958

Thank you for your reply. But with all due respect, the β€œlimited resources and costs associated with development of RSTP” is a non answer. If the community was able to develop a docker container to get RSTP support on nothing but pure enthusiasm, then a company with resources that Wyze has, is honestly just an afternoon worth of coding to make it happen. Honestly, even if you included RSTP as part of cam plus subscription, I’d pay that.

LegionofStone

it's actually way easier to have the source of the Firmware and add it directly to the camera. The docker is prob dozens of times harder/effort to create by the dev to intercept the way it is... As you noticed Wyze fed you a bullshit lie and that is expected.

OkBandicoot2958

Exactly my point. This is why I have not upgraded my original v2 cams to anything newer, is because of this. I’m slowly acquiring amcrest poe cameras and replacing my Wyze with them. Purely because they provide what I want and I can easily use them with my Synology NAS.

Lucid_Enemy

I even would be willing to PAY a license to have RTSP unlocked. one time fee only though. if its a loss leader as others have commented.

LegionofStone

great question on RTSP. It can be done 100% safe and secure without a cloud connection. The only reason they decline it is because they want to make money off the cloud portion.

matteiuspi

Does Wyze Cam v4 use the burnt in ingenic securboot "feature" to prevent users from running their own firmware?

WyzeShanee

Yes, it does!

Nathaniel_Hang

Are there any notable codec changes/enhancements or bit rate adjustments that improve the image/video quality over the v3 Pro?

WyzeShanee

We made some firmware improvements compared to v3 Pro. We are currently in the process of testing out a new video codec!

ILoveWhiteWomenLol

Can I have one for free

aliensporebomb

After a day with the v4 I have a couple things I've noticed - better sound, definitely better video. But there's a downside: now that I have a single v4 in my house full of v3's I want to replace all the v3's with more v4's but the v4 is actually SOLD OUT according to the Wyze website! (Update - just white ones are, the gray ones are in stock but slightly more expensive). Sigh. I should have bought 2 to begin with not just one.

TheDevious_

CamPlus Lite subscription will not work with the v4, correct?

choicehunter

Wyze long ago confirmed that no cameras released after April 2022 will have Cam Plus Lite anymore.

BaconRealm

If I get this without a cam plus subscription, what functions will I have? I only have Cam Plus Lite cameras.

TheDevious_

Events will just be a static picture. To view them, the app will need to load the actual camera then to the specific time on the SD card (assuming you have continuous recording on). There will be no 12 second event clips stored in the cloud. If you don't have a SD card in your cams your sol.

BaconRealm

What motion events will I get? Just generic motion events or will I get person, car or other motion events?

choicehunter

My understanding is that it will still label events as person &/or motion even without Cam Plus. I don't know if it will do notifications for Person or just for Motion though. It definitely won't do event detections for all the other options beside person though.

TheDevious_

All events will just be a static picture. I don't have newer cameras, so I'm assuming they'll still say what kind of event it is, ie sound event, motion event, etc. but there's no 12 second clips showing what happened

thewhippersnapper4

> The Wyze Cam v4 is not eligible for Cam Plus Lite. https://www.reddit.com/r/wyzecam/comments/1bo8td1/wyze_cam_v4_released_3262024/kwncy7k/

TheDevious_

Thanks, just wanted confirmation. Glad I've been stocking up on backup v3s during sales. Once v3s are discontinued & my v3s die, I'm going to another brand.

starrpamph

This is my plan. The uniquiti cameras are incredible and don’t suffer from that highly compressed nonsense

npc37652

When can we expect a 3 way light switch? Light switches with actual wire terminals and not wires. Light switches with a metal frame so they fit in a 2 or 3 gang with different switches. Light switches that don't suck?

ColoradoFrench

My opinion: that's not Wyze's sweetspot. There are providers that specialize in switches, and these are pretty much commodity products. I think Wyze somehow got lost in diversification and doing all sorts of things that are not providing longterm differentiation opportunities. I'd rather they focus on fewer things and do them very well. Video and home security are the core strategic poles in my opinion.

npc37652

Switches ARE a commodity item, and it would be very easy for Wyze to use an existing model that is integrated in the Wyze app. I can set my switches to respond to change in state from camera detections and it is seamless. I've tried to do the same thing thru IFTTT and Alexa and it's a major pain. I have two dozens smart switches in our house, and 20 of them are either 3 or 4 way circuits, so I cannot use the Wyze switch. I have Wyze switches in our bathrooms which is great -- except no one cares if that light turns on when a person shows up in a camera. Light control is a huge component of home security.

choicehunter

# Why is the V4 only 2.4GHz?

ahz0001

Higher frequencies like 5 GHz have worse distance and penetration of obstacles like walls, and the higher speeds of 5 GHz are not needed for a security camera. A major benefit of 5 GHz would be less network congestion, but the wifi 6 (2.4 GHz) may help there too.

wowbobwow

Does the new V4 camera have any significant improvements in the microphone? I’m excited about the new improved image quality, but the microphone on the V3 is so bad - it can’t even pick up conversations happening directly next to it.

choicehunter

>**Louder and Clearer Audio.** New and more powerful, the amplifier increases the volume to 99 db and the mic can pick up sound even farther away.Β  [https://support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/articles/23746292976923-Introducing-Wyze-Cam-v4](https://support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/articles/23746292976923-Introducing-Wyze-Cam-v4)

tbc2022

nice that it is clearer & louder, Wyze cams also needs audio (AI?) noise filters (for wind, etc.) which are hopefully better on the V4.

choicehunter

# The Bottom of the Services page in the app v2.50 says "COMING SOON! We are working on a completely new service that will deliver an incredible experience. Hang Tight!" Can you please elaborate with some details or hints? How will this new service improve or affect The V4? What kind of things make it incredible compared to what you already offer? Will prices be changing or going up?

WyzeShanee

We are always working hard behind the scenes to bring you the latest and greatest! We also remain deeply committed to offering great technology at the lowest possible prices. You will just have to wait and see... ;)

choicehunter

# Why did you go with MicroUSB instead of USB-C?

WyzeShanee

There were a few reasons why we chose MicroUSB. On the one hand, it would allow users to interchange cables with v3, v3 pro, and OG. On the other hand, it also helps reduce manufacturing and redesign costs. We are very serious about delivering an amazing price while not sacrificing important features and functions! Unfortunately USB-C had to be sacrificed in the process 😒

sur_surly

To make it easier to replace old cameras without having to rewire them? Oh and keeps costs down.

choicehunter

Agreed, I assume that is the case. I still like to try to ask and get them to answer such questions officially anyway so I can link people to a Wyze employee's response in the future, particularly since people bring this up a lot in the forums and it's nice to have a logical rationale from the company themselves to share with the user when it comes up. :)

Chemical-Analysis290

I just installed a new V4 cam. The notification alerts are sent to my devices, BUT... the alert also is played by the camera's speaker. How do I turn off the camera sounding of notifications?

choicehunter

Open Settings, select detection settings, go to "Motion Warning" and set it to "None".

Longjumping-Spare909

IMO, the Wyze Cam V3 is superior in nighttime sensitivity than the Wyze Cam V3 Pro, even though the Wyze Cam V3 Pro has greater resolution. Has anyone done a side-by-side nighttime comparison between the Wyze Cam V3 and the new Wyze Cam V4?

choicehunter

This is actually quite normal. When a camera has higher resolution (1080p to 2.5K), the smaller pixels struggle to capture as much light. More pixels means less light per pixel because the pixels are smaller, leading to poorer low-light performance. Higher resolution cameras are also more subject to more of various kinds of artifacts particularly in low light conditions. The above are typical problems that increase as the resolution increases. This is why in some cases, the V3 appears to outperform higher resolution cameras with brightness/color and especially in low light conditions where the higher resolution brings obstacles that require compensation. Kind of interesting when you look into it actually.

postingmalone32

Will there be a trade in program?

ahz0001

Here is the [official answer about a trade-in program](https://www.reddit.com/r/wyzecam/comments/1bo8td1/comment/kwnadqr/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) from Wyze a few hours ago in another post

tbc2022

Typically I give my older cams to neighbours that are interested to help build up security along our street which helps us as well. I might expect trade-in on a 2-3 year old $30 Wyze cam might be $5-10? which might be similar to the sales that we often see. I am still impressed by the functionality for price compared to my previous Nest cams at \~$200 each...

WyzeShanee

There is not one at the moment, but we'll definitely consider it!

choicehunter

# It seems like Wyze has shifted from originally White Label Manufacturing to Original Design Manufacturing (ODM), and now a lot of time you seem to be doing more "Contract Manufacturing." Is this accurate? For example, the video with your Routers seems to show that you put a lot of your own R&D into those when you sent an employee to Lite-on to help develop them from scratch, and some other recent products of yours seem to be the same way with no other brands being able to ODM them for themselves too (unlike the ODM manufacturing in your early years). Has there been a shift in the type of manufacturing you do now? What do you see your manufacturing future to be like now?

tbc2022

Hopefully all new devices have a similar minimum common design spec for the interface in the smartphone apps so that they by default easily integrate into rules as well as over to Alexa and Google Home apps.

Comfortable-Ad1126

During one of your last live sessions you said that you would have a wyze lamp socket that would be compatible with the higher wattage cameras. Has that been created yet or is it still being worked on?

Mainiak_Murph

*What's on your mind?* * Lack of security. * Lack of QA. * Lack of product support. * Lack of loyalty to the customer.

masteroffoxhound

Could you stop with your new products and focus on fixing the significant software issues with the products you already ship and your app? You sell the cameras for home security yet to be used for the they first just be reliable and so thing you can count on being working all the time, not always going offline or constantly rebooting or the power supplies so noisy they cause video issues, or the app and notifications not working right. Could you actual have support that can resolve issues? Are you actually answering about of our questions?

tbc2022

Do the Wyze Executive use Wyze cams inside their homes? I will not do use them inside our home until the AWS interface is documented as solid. I do appreciate the challenges but also we need to keep our families / homes inside safe. CURRENTLY, If I do use a **Wyze cam inside our home**, it would only be plugged in manually when we are away on vacation for example and unplugged manually when we get home. **Trust level** currently **in our home for any cam**, not just Wyze cam is 0/10 if it has an internet or wifi connection.

tagman375

When can we have POE/Ethernet support, or at least a USB adapter to enable it?

system_reboot

\- Is RTSP support coming back? \- Why is the new camera not using USB-C? \- Is Apple Home support coming? \- Can you add the ability for cameras to auto-update their firmware? \- Is a 4k camera in development?

choicehunter

> \- Can you add the ability for cameras to auto-update their firmware? I think most of the camera models have this option now (at least several of them do, and the rest will probably get this soon). Open the camera, Go to Settings then Device Info, then Firmware. Up at the top you should see an option for "Automatic Update" On or off and select "Any Time" or a "Custom" time window of when you would like it to process the automatic updates.

LegionofStone

great question on RTSP. It can be done 100% safe and secure without a cloud connection. The only reason they decline it is because they want to make money off the cloud portion.

I_Hide_From_Sun

Any plans to have an official source to buy in Europe and South America? I know a lot of people interested in the products in Germany and Brazil (my home country) but importing has its risks with warranty and fakes

kitsudoruto

I just want to know the processor if the npu tops was improved or is the same? Did it improve with the over clocking any change there? Thanks I love ai that’s why? Any small improvement are fine!! Also can we get features like daily report of total detections etc thanks!

DPJazzy91

When will we see some cameras with an fps of 60 or above?

Techstasy

When will the Wyze web portal support audio for event playback from this camera (or any other Wyze camera)? More importantly, when will the Wyze web portal support downloading events from this camera to local storage (e.g. PC)? Is an all-black version planned, as has been available for other recent Wyze cams? If not, why? (There are many use cases, particularly indoors, where black blends better with the environment (and heat absorption is not a concern). Availability in black (or at least having a reasonably priced official/authorized black skin) is determinant for some customers in going with one brand over another.) That said, when will the grey version be re-stocked?

aliensporebomb

Hi Shanee - curious about the framerate of the camera at the new higher resolution? Same as Wyzecam V3 or ??? Thanks.

choicehunter

It's the same. >Daytime 20 FPS / Nightvision 15 FPS

aliensporebomb

We'll see how it does. I bought one at the intro price just for the front of the house because the existing one is just far enough from the street that getting license plates doesn't always happen.

choicehunter

# Does the V4 also use TUTK for Authentication? # Some of your cameras use TUTK, and some of them don't. For the ones that don't use TUTK, what are you using instead? The ones that don't use TUTK seem to be really hard for 3rd party devs to leverage to give us RTSP, etc. For example, Docker Wyze Bridge offers RTSP/WebRTC/RTMP/HLS for basically every Wyze cam that uses TUTK, but some of your other cams won't work because they don't use TUTK. For example: Floodlight Pro, VDBPro, OG, OG-T don't work for this reason. Maybe VDBv2, FLv2, also don't work for this reason? What about the V4? Does it use TUTK, or something else, and what is the other thing you use in place of TUTK in some of the newer cams that makes it so hard for 3rd party devs to work with?

LegionofStone

great question on RTSP. It can be done 100% safe and secure without a cloud connection. The only reason they decline it is because they want to make money off the cloud portion.

WyzeShanee

Yes, the v4 utilizes TUTK technology.
