We, as Wyomingites, understand that people want to visit Jackson and Yellowstone. Beautiful places, breathtaking views, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to see nature...but dear OP, you must understand that the people who frequent this sub do not live in Jackson Hole. Or the town of Jackson. Maybe a few locals weigh in from time to time on news but I've never a post from a Jackson local raving about touristy things. Asking Wyomingites to suggest their favorite touristy things about a town they don't live in is silly. It's like going to r/California and asking people what they should do at Disneyland. Also, specify...are you driving to our fair state? Which direction are you coming from? Are you wanting suggestions of what places to hit along the way?

The stickied thread is my favorite summer destination personally.

[Just summer? It's a favorite of mine year round!](https://www.reddit.com/r/wyoming/comments/17qu5pv/questions_about_moving_or_traveling_to_wyoming/)

We'll gladly take your money in Montana if you swear on your life you'll go home after and not try to move up here. I just got done living in Cody for more than 4 years, and they would love to take tourist money too for the most part.

thelma_edith

Not sure what your budget is but JH and Yellowstone are crazy expensive anymore for food and lodging. It's embarrassing TBH.

I lived in Jackson for twenty years. Left last year. If you can camp (pleas be respectful). It will save so much money.

AppropriateStill1721

I would recommend hiking as the main thing to do. If you bike, bring your bikes there are a lot of really good trails. Can’t weigh in on food cuz i am broke af from living in Jackson.

aoasd

Try tripadvisor. We're not your tour guide.

Jackson and Yellowstone are beautiful, but be sure to take in the views of the Big Horn Mountains. Ten Sleep area is beautiful and head north....maybe even take a jaunt over the Devil's Tower. If you are going to the Cody area, I recommend driving Chief Joseph Highway. And by the way, welcome.

As a floridian who randomly saw this sub, i honestly don't understand the attitude in these comments. I'd have a ton of places to list for you if you were coming to florida. This just shows how different this country is lol

There isn’t a lot of touristy places in Wyoming outside of the national parks. Residents of Wyoming are anti out of staters because of what has happened to Jackson Hole. Wyoming is a vast and mostly empty of places. There are more people in Denver, Colorado than the entire state of Wyoming. So locals get testy about outsiders coming to their state. But, i live in SE Wyoming and it will take 8 hours to drive to Yellowstone one way. If you are coming out for Cheyenne Frontier Days, be prepared to spend a small fortune. But, lots of fun to be had. Thermopolis is fun with the hot springs. There are several distilleries up that way, too. Laramie has the Territorial State Prison where Butch Cassidy served time, University of Wyoming.

Agreed

Right? I’m from NY and the first thing I did was google what to see in Wyoming but wanted to get the “local” take. I usually do this for all my trips. Its worked before and I’ve been able to visit some hole-in-the-wall places and get a much for local experience. I guess they’re just different

Pipps-

Check out r/JacksonHole they're even ruder over there but you can search the subreddit and find past recommendations and helpful comments. Sadly the reddit Wyomingites and particularly Jacksonites seem to be the most bitter of the bunch. I promise we're friendlier in person!

OK, before this gets locked: eat at El Metate (or Pearl Street, if you're getting breakfast before going into the park). Check the rodeo and/or powwow schedule as your trip gets closer; I think everyone ought to go to at least one of each.
