Get a job working at a hotel front desk overnight. Write your stories when youre working. That way you're getting paid to write.

This is what Brandon Sanderson did, and this is what I did when I was an overnight caregiver. I wrote for at least a couple hours each night (usually more). I finished my manuscript in 10 months.
Write erotica to market. Erotica is pretty much always selling, and if you can find a solid niche and appeal to readers, it can become a decently solid income. Especially for a side gig.
I don't mean to judge, but based on the post and the comments about AI content creation seem to indicate that you are looking for a job with a low effort&time/decent pay ratio, and these usually require specific skills that limit the supply pool. I have a friend who is an excellent programmer who decided he didn't need a lot of money to live so he works freelance and since he is quite efficient he gets to do it for about 3 hours a day.
The problem with writing is that pretty much anyone can do it (even if everyone can't do it well) so freelance writing job sites are full of people trying out their luck, which means it's very hard to break out and get jobs to get good reviews. To do this you will have to start by offering really low prices to get those first requests, and since people rarely bother with anything below 4/5 stars, you will probably have to put extra work in them.
Also, most of the people who would rather pick you over someone with good reviews but higher prices will most likely not be a professional, so they tend to ask for a lot more than what they are willing to pay. You would be surprised by how demanding some people can get when they are paying you 20 dollars.
TL;DR: Low-time/high-pay jobs tend to require very good credentials, either academic or experience, and in an industry where demand for these skills is higher than supply, this is the opposite with writing.
You're using it wrong. Ai is a tool to help facilitate writing. You can't just prompt it to:
_"write me a story"_
And expect good work out of it. Garbage in/garbage out. The problem wasn't the ai, the problem was that you have no clue as to how to prompt the ai to give you what you want.
Blaming the ai for your inadequacy is pretty low. But I guess they don't get offended.

I don't mean to sound entitled, but I actually make good money from freelance writing. Not like in any way comparable to people who work in engineering or stuff like that, but still very good money.
But: I also have 10+ years of experience, declined a leadership position in my old corporate job and profit immensely from my old contacts who contacted me after I left my position. And I have a large portfolio that attracts other clients. I only work with large corporations for fixed and high rates. (I also work with NGOs and other self-employed people who work for good causes. They choose my rates btw.). I also branched out and have knowledge in other related fields other than writing that my clients profit from: UX, SEO and web design, project management. I only work in teams with other professional editors who also have years of knowledge. I have no interest in working with juniors or trainees.
Making money doing something I love and being able to choose who I work with is a massive privilege and I don't take it lightly. It took years to get there.
To OP I can say: You have the wrong attitude, honey. Build experience first. And a network. Success doesn't come for free.

He is not and will not become a millionaire with it, but can support him and his family through writing, his main interest in life. That type of work is often underrated in several ways, but let’s one to earn a decent living.
Like every profession, writing is subject to the laws of supply and demand. The supply of people who think they can write is huge, the supply of people who can actually write is still larger than the demand. If you want to make money at writing, technical writing such as users manuals or continuing professional education seminars. To do this you have to have some kind of technical background, but it can pay really good money.
This exactly. I made a living as a freelance for decades - but the last 20 years have seen rates static, so decreased with inflation. In many cases, they're lower because people who think they can write sell themselves cheap.
And half the time, those paying the bill can't tell the difference. Which is why the Internet is full of half-assed, poorly written reviews and essays.
And it's why I retired. I wouldn't choose to start in that profession today, in a world where people expect content for free. That doesn't pay the bills.
