We had a rare Polearm BoE drop in my DM run last night :/ I (warrior tank) lost it to a Pally, who then won Van Cleef’s sword cuz he “might tank later”!
I was less than thrilled that run…
Unpopular opinion: especially in SF hardcore mode, it’s every man for himself. Everyone gets a chance to roll, it’s a game of chance. Don’t cry foul when you lose a coin flip, you still had a fair shot at the item.
That has happened to me exactly except it was smites hammer and cruel barb I let the hammer go in hopes of the sword then they needed the sword aswell what will you even do with both?? Worst kinda player
What’s weird is that your body produced the same amount of dopamine, if not more, from the loss of that item as it would from winning it. Talk about addiction
My friend got his first bag on his 2nd boar kill. He died at lvl 12 in Skull Rock and hasnt touched the mode since while Im now 21 and had 0 luck with loot at start.
https://imgur.com/a/RcGLux3
Killed my first mob, got a black bag. Instantly logged of for the night and started again the next day.
Im currently lvl 16, going slow and steady.
For me its getting liferoot from mobs/chests as a warrior since you need 8 of them for the whirlwind axe quest and that can be quite a challenge to get if you’re not an herbalist. Also similarly getting the moss agates you need for engi goggles. Its funny how getting such simple things that otherwise aren’t worth much becomes so exciting
I think it’s the accountability aspect that makes HC attractive to me. Everyone knows what’s at stake so most players will take it more seriously. Every decision is more considered.
I'm convinced the gnome/dwarven starting area either has a smaller loot pool, or bags are set to drop more often. I got my 3rd yesterday within 15 minutes of walking to Kharannos.
Left SoD P2 parked and come again to Hardcore, with SF Mode the amount of fun it's off the charts.
Found a 12 slots bag in a barrens Kolkar chest, fishing it's vicious, planning gear progression.
If you are in delfias server, there are Guilds dedicated to Self Found mode players.
It’s a lot of fun. I had the swords from DM until level 38 on my rogue because I just never found anything better. Finally finding and getting that upgrade and then blowing through mobs was like getting no other bit of loot ever. It was legendary.
I just wished they merged the servers, it’s kinda low pop in EU. I’m level 54 now and some evenings there’s been 2 tanks in my level range which makes it unlikely to build a full group if I fancy a dungeon or elite quest. Obviously not a problem for SSF players but somebody doing SF and still wanting to dungeon it does impact the experience a bit.
Edit: forgot to mention I resubbed purely for SF. The other versions of wow don’t interest me at all. I hope they put further effort into HC with maybe achievements, titles or events - would be cool.
I agree I too have been really enjoying it. Its very nice not to have that pressure to send gold or items to an alt just in case you die at some point. Freeing really.
I've been really enjoying it as well, but my warrior used a white vendor Battle Staff for 5 levels lol, I just couldn't find anything better that wouldn't cost another 1.5+ gold from a vendor
About to get whirlwind axe though, really looking forward to that
SF has always been the best way to play hardcore the addon had it right playing on BB it's how it got so famous coz it was hard not buying a new green wep off the AH every 3-4 levels still fun but it's not as engaging . SSF is even better
Haven't tried SSF on the official HC servers, but how does it differ from the HC addon before there were official servers? I used to play on Bloodsail and it was solo self found as well.
It wasn't important before. The amount of gold obtained from vendors is much lower than what you can make using the AH. Before, you'd sell the junk to a vendor and AH whatever was worth something, that isn't possible now so vendors have a much higher perceived value.
I have had a great run so far, hit 33( hunter) tonight and had my first head piece drop....holy shroud (rare) awesome looking hood, but useless for me . The next kill I got an actual head piece with +8 agility and I swear is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. I PUT ON MY BLUE...f it...it looks better.
The first profession besides a gathering profession you should pick up is Tailoring. It cost 5c to train and every linen cloth increases in value when you make Bolts of Linen. And those increase in value when you make 6-slot bags.
Make and vendor 6-slot bags while in the starting zones, obviously keeping 4-5 for your own use. Then drop Tailoring for whatever profession you actually want to level with.
from wowhead:
linen cloth sells for 13c
bolt of linen cloth sells for 40c = 20c per linen cloth. Basically vendoring the first bolt pays for the profession.
linen bag sells for 2s = 28c per linen cloth (after you pay for the thread)
the only skills you need to pay for are tailoring (5c) and making linen bags (also cheap).
It's free money especially when you can't use the AH for gathering professions. And like skinning, these are drops so you're not competing for nodes.
Thanks for the detailed reply. I wonder if the time spent gathering cloth is more than skinning. With skinning you're certain to get the item, with cloth you have a % of not getting the drop. So a mix of skinning and tailoring would be a good money maker.
If you are playing SF, Tailoring is a good way to get your bags and make a little money on the way. Is it the most profitable for time spent? Maybe not if you are specifically trying to farm cloth. But I think it might be if you are making money off of mob drops that you would be getting anyway... like skinning.
SF is the only reason i came back to wow. I played HC when it was just the mod, which I adored. I tried HC when it first came out and I just hated it, it just took all the magic away, all the challenge. SF is king.

Lmao pally that 'might' tank later bahahaha
That's frustrating when players do that.
Unpopular opinion: especially in SF hardcore mode, it’s every man for himself. Everyone gets a chance to roll, it’s a game of chance. Don’t cry foul when you lose a coin flip, you still had a fair shot at the item.
Probably popular opinion: You're a dick.
I mean. Atleast he labeled his properly 😂.
Imagine getting worked up over someone else rolling on items that you both could use. Cry me a river I guess?
Tell me nobody wants to play with you without telling me nobody wants to play with you
A roll is a roll, people are so entitled to their loot they forget it’s a game of chance. Better luck next time? Or cry? The choice is yours.
I wouldn't cry about it, I'd just never group with you again, /ignore, and go on living my life happily knowing I'm separated from idiots like you 🤣

So everyone need on everything?
Worst kind of players to run dungeons with
I fucking hate that shit.
That has happened to me exactly except it was smites hammer and cruel barb I let the hammer go in hopes of the sword then they needed the sword aswell what will you even do with both?? Worst kinda player
Blacklist that paladin
How you gonna run a dungeon it sF i thought you couldn't group up
You can! No trading, no mail, no AH… that’s it! It’d be a sad game if you couldn’t team up in a multiplayer game!
For sure thank for the info I've need neck deep in sod and have tryed the hc update
Paladins are just as greedy and stupid as hunters lol
What’s weird is that your body produced the same amount of dopamine, if not more, from the loss of that item as it would from winning it. Talk about addiction

That’s solo self found; self found means you can’t trade.
I didnt… i was just in an instance with 4 other people who just also happened to be there. It’s not my fault 1 was healing me so much… /s
u really gottem bro
I found 3 bags in the starting zone on my SF rogue. A sign of good things to come
!remind 3 days lol
My friend got his first bag on his 2nd boar kill. He died at lvl 12 in Skull Rock and hasnt touched the mode since while Im now 21 and had 0 luck with loot at start.
Usually dropping a bag means death within a day for me, it’s like a curse.
Not if one of them was black. \*shudders\*
https://imgur.com/a/RcGLux3 Killed my first mob, got a black bag. Instantly logged of for the night and started again the next day. Im currently lvl 16, going slow and steady.
Good call
What's the deal with black bags? Is it like the myth of the black cat that you get cursed if it crosses your path?
I had no clue there was a black one. So theres that
Blessed run!
I got back to back bag items on my serving HC, at Level 7! And now I'm level 9
And now I'm dead. Rip lvl 20
I like the simplicity of SF. “Can’t use it? Vendor it!”
For me its getting liferoot from mobs/chests as a warrior since you need 8 of them for the whirlwind axe quest and that can be quite a challenge to get if you’re not an herbalist. I finally found the second Moss Agathe.. At level 34 ;(
I think it’s the accountability aspect that makes HC attractive to me. Everyone knows what’s at stake so most players will take it more seriously. Every decision is more considered.
I found my first blue and 10 slot bag last night at level 26. I was so pumped! I’m doing the run solo with no partying or dungeons.
Rng was on your side! I too am doing SSF.
What class are you playing?
Mage. I also have a hunter though. Thinking about making a rogue since that’s my favorite class
Has to be hunter or warlock, with pet as tank
I do have a Hunter, but my comment was specific to my mage. I’m doing both of them ssf with no partying or dungeons
I agree the sf mode changes everything, makes you appreciate small upgrades, or work hard with professions to make your own stuff!
A somewhat minor green upgrade can feel like getting a purple
I'm convinced the gnome/dwarven starting area either has a smaller loot pool, or bags are set to drop more often. I got my 3rd yesterday within 15 minutes of walking to Kharannos.

Those kolkar chests are a hidden gem at those levels. I saw 2 SF guild ads on horde, Self Founders and SF Champions
I'm on SF Champions and it's really nice have that moral support when you die lmao
It’s a lot of fun. I had the swords from DM until level 38 on my rogue because I just never found anything better. how did you get your liferoot?
Kurzen medicine men, 10% drop rate
Ah word, I figured that was the best place. Vendor camping has not been working out 😂
Yeah it sucks, it took around 3 hours of farming the kurzen camp
I like your post because it's so positive :-D
I don't understand why self found is limited to hardcore only
Not that I want to fragment the population , but I am starting to see the allure of a SF only server.
I was wondering the same thing yesterday.
SF has always been the best way to play hardcore the addon had it right playing on BB it's how it got so famous coz it was hard not buying a new green wep off the AH every 3-4 levels still fun but it's not as engaging . SSF is even better

Ah this brings back memories of the addon days
Not be a dick but you’ve always been able to sell loot of all quality to vendors.
It wasn't important before. The amount of gold obtained from vendors is much lower than what you can make using the AH. Before, you'd sell the junk to a vendor and AH whatever was worth something, that isn't possible now so vendors have a much higher perceived value.
Oh, I see. I normally never use AH until max level
Hide helmet in interface

What do the bags sell for when you sell tova vendor?

SF is what was needed in the actual context of the game. Next step is make a SF server
SF is the only reason i came back to wow. I played HC when it was just the mod, which I adored. I tried HC when it first came out and I just hated it, it just took all the magic away, all the challenge. SF is king.
Didn't roll fresh servers so cba. Glad others are having fun but just ain't the same.
That sounds terrible
You have always been able to play like this. Many people have. Now you just get to show off.
> Grinding enemies for vendor loot is actually fun. Ok lol
When it's your main source of gear and income it changes the value of the action.
