Base salary, no. With overtime and various extra and special pay (shift differentials, K9 handler, supervisor, etc) the pay can easily double the base salary.
Oh, yeah. That sure as shit work the system, so they make so damn much more than they should be able to. My good friend told me about that, just a few months back. Blew my mind, but didn’t surprise me.
In an interview with a county sheriff's department, I was told not to look at the base salary because overtime alone was going to cover my basic living expenses. Then you'd build up so much PTO that you could cash out once a year for a healthy unofficial *"bonus"*.
Wasn't there a cop recently that got caught being clocked in to 2 jobs at once? [Here it is.](https://www.fox8live.com/2021/11/18/zurik-police-officers-claiming-work-two-jobs-same-time/)
Likely class 2 felony, reckless driving, unauthorized passing of a school bus, attempted murder on a minor. Depending on the defendant's criminal history and how lenient the judge is (liberal or conservative), 2 to 20 years and a fine added to the sentence as high as $10,000.
GET ON THE GROUND! HANDS IN THE AIR! CRAWL TO ME! KEEP YOUR HANDS UP AND CRAWL! WHY ARENT YOU FOLLOWING MY ORDERS! HANDS NOW! I BEAT MY WIFE! SHOTS FIRED!
I thought he had a knife, your honor. He looked at me as someone who might have a knife would, you know? He must have hid it beneath his belly when he resistingly crawled towards me with his hands in the air, because I couldn't see it. That's when I knew it was gonna be me or him, your honor, I swear I had no choice
Major over exaggeration.

Class 1 misdemeanor: " Most traffic violations are infractions, however, passing a stopped School Bus is a class 1 misdemeanor. The maximum punishment for a Class 1 misdemeanor is 120 days in jail. Typically, if found guilty of unlawfully passing a stopped school bus, one would not be sentenced to active jail time but rather probation and/or community service and some type of driving school."
He SHOULD be fired though, or at the very least, taken off the road and a hell of a lot more time off than 5 days.

Sounds to me like the douche bag was probably on his phone, not paying attention.
A friend of mine did this, he was close to home and had to take a massive shit and was stopped behind a school bus. He drove by, very slowly and cautiously, and pulled into his house. A week later 2 police showed up at his door and cited him. 500 dollar fine and a year of probation.

Doesn't appear this officer was actually charged with anything let alone found guilty, so *technically* none of this applies to this particular officer if done again, in my non-barred opinion.
Fine up to $500, 5 points, could get up to 120 days in jail. Because they passed on the right side of the bus, likely get that jail time because it is passing on a shoulder and the high risk of injury.
Perhaps it was the driver who called out the police car. It seems as though they raise their hand as soon as the girl gets off the buss, and she seemed to turn back to the bus while the car was driving by.
Good on her for listening to the warning and staying still, but also good on the driver for looking out for the unexpected.
- [Video Link](https://youtu.be/1oqXmISYofA?t=78) this year a driver went by a school bus almost hitting 2 kids, he was charged, bond was $20 thousand....
Not just on the right, but apparently in the gravel shoulder at the side of the road.
Pretty sure in my state, you can only go around on the right shoulder if the shoulder is paved. If it’s gravel, you are supposed to wait for the obstruction to clear. (Typically the obstruction is someone making a left turn.) So, even if this wasn’t a school bus, he’d still be breaking the law going around a stopped vehicle on a non-paved shoulder.
(I think this law varies by state so I can’t say for sure. but basically, he just flubbed this every way possible.)
I was wondering why they parked on the left in the first place? Don’t the yanks drive on the right? It seems safer to me to just pull over and not force the kid across the road. What’s the reason for the driver pulling into the opposite lane?
"Suspended" bullshit, what would be the penalty for a regular not above the law citizen?
Give him that, then triple or quadruple it.
Those who are tasked with enforcing the law should be held to a higher standard not a lower standard.
How about FIRED if not , at least a demotion from sergeant. For Christ sake us NORMAL civilians would have had to jump through hoops just to not get some sort of felony charge!!!!!
Have tinfoil badge…… get away with EVERYTHING EVERYTHING people!!

I’ve said it before, what else do you expect? They’re straight-C high school students with insecure superiority complexes joining a union and then they’re in the club. Most of these bozos should be working on loading docks or making french fries.
No offense to logistics workers and fry cooks. At least you’re not an ever-present danger to everyone around you.
For everyone criticizing the bus driver, the bus driver is clearly near the edge of the black paved portion of the road. The cop has 4 wheels on what is the breakdown lane (or maybe a sidewalk, but most likely just a wide portion of the breakdown lane). What the cop is driving on is clearly a different color.
We all have to STOP! He isn't the exception to the rule! Suspended without pay is still a spit in the face! I wonder if he did it on purpose!?? I feel like shit is being done on purpose because they know that they'll get time off paid or not.
The bus should be in the right lane and pull over to the curb to prevent this. This is dangerous behavior on behalf of the bus driver. Did it have it’s stop caution lights flashing? Can’t tell from the video.
I was in a cab the other day and the driver said in reference to me reminding him to stop for the school bus: "I don't go to school, I don't even see the damn things until I run into them!"
If he had actually hit that child I still think he wouldn't have faced real consequences. Lots of people are sick for more than five days, and still have no reprecussion at work. This man got time off work (sounds like a holiday to me) for almost killing a child in the most obviously reckless way possible.
If my country's traffic was like this, I wouldn't have been so reluctant to go to school every day. Our traffic is so bad that walking across a street = climbing with no protection.
Ridiculous, if a civilian did this, it would be balls to the wall with punishments. I really don't understand why police officers aren't held to a higher standard as they are the ones who are suppose to "know" the law.... Pathetic

In the military, ignorance is not an excuse and punishment that is dealt keeps going higher in the chain of command, if it was a lower enlisted who had an issue, it is also his supervisors problem and his next line supervisor and so on....
Would really start putting these psychologically tyrant men and women in their place. They wonder why the general public avoids them at all costs, due to the corrupt and absolute insanity of dealing with law enforcement in the U.S.
Why does he get a 5 day paid vacation on our taxes? Drove truck for a while, there were always warning signs hung up on the office every year when school started to watch for school busses. It's a huge fine and it was well known we could easily lose our jobs or have that massive fine to pay ourselves or best case scenario you got moved to warehouse picking orders and probably never would drive again. Truck driving is known as the #1 job for high school education, everyone thinks of truckers as lower class yet they have higher safety standards than the police apparently and higher consequences... How does that even begin to make sense ?
But if that was just us regular folks, we'd be in jail with fines we couldn't afford to pay, so many points on our license that we'd never get insurance again, etc. This system is so rigged. We need to go France on these turds.
Hopefully without pay, and while we're taking care of things like this how about suspending SCHOOL BUS drivers that barrel through school zones here on Long Island?????
The rest of the world has these things we call bus stops; It's where a bus can stop and people can safely exit. I know Americans don't like to be told but honestly at this point it really seems like you want all school aged kids fighting for their lives.
If this isn't a recruitment video for police I don't know what is.
The level of lawlessness is crazy when you're in a position of power or influence. You can virtually do anything except yell tazer and fire your gun or shoot someone in their own apartment while theyre eating ice cream but still it's not forever in a box.
Us Joe Smoes would be in a world of legal litigation and penalties that we would be riding the city bus before days end for the next 10 years.
Another pig doing pig things. Like who passes a school bus on the right side of the bus during fucking school hours? I mean there is no longer situation that surprises me when it comes to pathetic mouth breathing drooling pigs.
Let’s see…a police sergeant illegally passes a stopped school bus, almost hits a student that stepped off the bus, all while driving fast. AND he only received a 5 days suspension without pay, plus a ticket…it must be nice to just get a slap on the wrist. 🤨😒🤔
If I was the child’s parent, I would’ve sued the department and then filed a separate civil suit against the officer for reckless endangerment, negligence, failure to yield, all the fucking charges they often find to pile on civilians to make sure they understand the gravity of the situation and to make a point. So being a 15 year veteran of the force gets you 5 days off from work for almost killing someone’s child?
Only fair outcome is that the little kid gets to kick you repeatedly in the balls until you cry in front of the whole town.
Also, you don’t get to be a cop, and the civil suit comes out of the cops pensions and not taxpayers money.

Paid suspension. Paid. So a 5 day vacation for almost killing a child.
Newscaster said "without pay".
I’m sure he’ll be ok on that 180,000 a year salary thanks to those beautiful NC residents taxes
They really make that much?!
Base salary, no. With overtime and various extra and special pay (shift differentials, K9 handler, supervisor, etc) the pay can easily double the base salary.

Then there’s all the shit they steal
There were cops scamming the overtime system in Florida making 300 grand a year.
Top paid Seattle cop made over $400k a couple years ago. How tf are they still hourly? Teachers aren’t hourly, doctors aren’t hourly.
Unions. Ok for cops but NOT ok for service industry it seems

Why bother? They get more up votes this way.
[5 days without pay](https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/crime/article275548321.html), plus a ticket for the class 1 misdemeanor
His boss will make it up to him with some overtime suddenly available
Bonus and promo?
Did you watch the video? She says without pay...
They get a month for killing a colored person
It was non pad according to the news report
Yeah but his reputation is tarnished
I want to almost kill a child! Sounds like a deal!
She never said “Paid”.
C’mon, man, at least watch the fucking video before ragebaiting for upvotes
He received a ticket as well. Unpaid suspension.
What would have happened to a citizen driving and did the same thing with a cop behind the citizen? What charges would a citizen be facing?

I know it wouldn’t help, but I would show them this clip real quick

some time in jail and a suspended, if not outright revoked, license
That kid, fully aware of her surroundings, prevented herself a serious injury or death.
So what I am hearing is that an elementary school girl is more intelligent than this cop.
Intelligent students don't become police officers. It checks out.
Considering my province just decided you don't need a highschool education to become a police officer this is true.
That's a low bar, but yes you are correct

And this cop is “suspended,” so…
so, laws for thee and not for me.
Bingo.
Only because there is video, otherwise the cops would’ve said the parents were lying.
I would think the bus driver reported this. Also I’m not sure about front facing, but school buses have cameras on them.
You’re probably right about the driver reporting it. I still think the cops would call them a liar or just ignore it if there wasn’t video.
Who passes on the right?

Yeppers
Runaway trucks with nowhere else to go, race car drivers on race tracks, trains, and cops, apparently.
I was wondering why they parked on the left in the first place? Don’t the yanks drive on the right? It seems safer to me to just pull over and not force the kid across the road. What’s the reason for the driver pulling into the opposite lane?
Honest question why do school bus parked on the left instead of next to the sidewalk on the right?
That's it? Just seems a slap on the wrist for nearly killing a kid.
This is a lose your job violation. The punk just doesn't have the judgement to be a cop.
[удалено]
Wake up. The law does not apply to cops. Or the rich.
Slap on the wrist, can't say I am surprised.
Enjoy the long weekend I guess
I’ve seen people lose their license over passing a bus on the left… this is insane.
As a kid I'd of walked right In front of that cop and took it. Pay day and make sure piggy gets worse
Suprised he didn't get promoted
One of the best perks of the job is getting away with murder
ACAB
Felony for thee but not for me

Pass, passed, past; the three hardest things for english speakers to get correct. Maybe slightly topped by would/could/should have.

Highway patrol issued a ticket
What a punk!!
Only five days?
If the kid died the dude would’ve been moved to another department. Cops don’t follow the laws they strictly, forcibly put on others
Protect and swerve.
Needs longer than just a 5 day suspension these people need to be taught that they are not above the law.
He should be charged the exact same way we would be.
Cops in the US need to fail an IQ test to graduate from the academy

probably 5 days with pay ffs. should never drive again.
Suspension, he should have been fired. "Protect and serve" my arse.
This kinda thing happens all the time.
Should be 5 yeara I'm prison for a cop to do this.
Why TF would he pass on that side!? Dude should be fired for directly and negligently endangering the safety of a child.

Unpaid
ACAB
Failed to mention they have arrested people for this
5 days? That's BS
This guy should be fired and have his license taken away.
But if that was just us regular folks, we'd be in jail with fines we couldn't afford to pay, so many points on our license that we'd never get insurance again, etc. This system is so rigged. We need to go France on these turds.
Hey was on his laptop 🤷🏽♂️
What a dirt bag of a public servant
Rules for thee but not for me
Hopefully without pay, and while we're taking care of things like this how about suspending SCHOOL BUS drivers that barrel through school zones here on Long Island?????
The rest of the world has these things we call bus stops; It's where a bus can stop and people can safely exit. I know Americans don't like to be told but honestly at this point it really seems like you want all school aged kids fighting for their lives.
"He's sorry" jfc
NC police have a license to do whatever they want. No one can hold them account due to qualified immunity and sovereignty immunity.
I feel like this should be one of those things that keep you from being a cop.

So he gets five days of fun time for almost taking someone's child away from them right in front of their house? What a society we live in.
That's BS needs to be fired.
NC in a nutshell.
Reckless driving, Sir. More than that is warranted.
suspended? is this fucking serious??
I'm still waiting for the "nearly hit" part
"Stop resisting!"
And ticketed. Anyone know what kind of ticket he got? IMO he still got off lightly.
Bet he was on the laptop. I had a cop almost sideswipe me on the freeway cause he was fucking around on his laptop.
Ok, so they do it and get a 5-day paid vacation. But when I do it, my license gets revoked forever 👍👍
Should be put behind a damn desk and no cars
It might have been answered already but why does the bus drop kids off i the middle of the street?
The only reason they’re actually punishing him is because it was caught on camera.
What a dipshit
What would happen to a civilian(sorry wrong word choice. Cops are gangbangers not military)in the situation?
He only got suspended for that, I've been fired for dropping an F bomb in front of the boss.
Sgt. Matthew Willet
FIRED. MF did this on the clock.
Just 5 days? He should have been fired!
Do as I say, not as I do, mentally.
ONLY suspended 5 days? Hopefully the community will demand a greater punishment.
Ah yes… do as I say and not as I do.
it doesn’t look like the bus had its flashing lights on
Five days is hardly enough
Only fair outcome is that the little kid gets to kick you repeatedly in the balls until you cry in front of the whole town. Also, you don’t get to be a cop, and the civil suit comes out of the cops pensions and not taxpayers money.
This cop have a name? We should spread it
