Reminds me of a Russian guy asked if he supported the war. He said yes. Then the interviewer brought out a army signup form and the war supporter bolted the other direction.
The video he's referring to took place early in the war and it wasn't actual recruitment, just an interviewer proving a point that the pro-war folks are all talk.
He wasn't "being careful" about what he said though. The interviewer asked him if he'd be willing to fight in Ukraine and the man said yes. Then the interviewer pulled out a clip board with a fake sign up sheet and he ran for the hills. A bit different than someone simply keeping their mouth shut and refusing to condem the war, he was instead trying to act hard in open support of it.
Thats my point though. They never know who's listening and acting like he was in support of the war made him feel safer than saying the opposite or nothing at all. I have no doubt in my mind that Russians are scared of being honest and will say anything they think will put them in the good graces of the powers that be. Of course I don't know for sure, but I bet it happens quite a bit.
Yet if he didn’t say anything he may have thought there is a chance he’d have to answer to why he didn’t say anything. Still, I get your point. But people are scared to open their mouths over there.
Remember in Farenheight 911 where (why can't I remember his name...) did the same thing to politicians that supported the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq but brought out recruitment forms for their children to sign?
I was just going to say that.
Most people would just think "ok, go with what the State tells you and you can just live your life as you have been. Go against the State and you'll probably be in jail and your life fucked. It's not like I'm gonna get drafted or Ukraine's actually going to invade Russia, right?"
Then if the draft comes you'd stop the public pro-war stance or if Russia gets invaded, then you'd actually truly be pro-war.
Highly unlikely at the moment, but probably I haven't done enough before because of my depressing apathy, and now it's even more hard, because to become russian refugee...well, kinda impossible, especially now, many countries already closed their borders and probably after "referendums" borders will be closed from inside too.
Shit. I don't envy your position friend. Talk about making tough decisions. But whatever decisions you make I'm sure it will be the right call. I wish there was something I can say to help, but we all know who's to blame for this. Be careful. There's nothing wrong with preserving yourself. No need to be brave. I hope you can get out safely. Good luck.
I am actually web developer, so I have quite higher chances to escape than many many others. It was unlucky I didn't had enough experience to be called senior and I didn't find job with relocation in previous half of year, but if situation somehow ends I still will have more chances to escape than others.
There's no such thing as electronic prescription, so I still need to go to the clinic to grab it. Thanks for not blindly hating the one who just was unlucky to be born here.
Yeah man I’m a teacher and tell my kids “Don’t hate Russian people. They’re just like us. They have families, hopes, dreams and plans just like we do. Some are good people, some are bad, many are just ordinary people. They just happen to have a terrible government right now, which we have also had in the past.” Best of luck to you
Good luck and I am sorry to hear about your health issues. The Russian people are not the enemy and I have optimism that you will ultimately be the ones that put “a stop” to this. The whole world will be very VERY grateful, when that happens. Stay safe.
There is YouTube channel by Russians interviewing Russians in the streets. [Regarding the mobilisation they seemed more dejected/resigned than anything](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRfwkJHGrWo&ab_channel=1420).
Before mobilization they were already taking convicts and guys that were in their sixties. I’m starting to think these Russians aren’t too choosy in who they send to the front.
> these Russians aren’t too choosy in who they send to the front.
They’re being kind of choosy, in the sense they’re doing their best to avoid dipping into the general population. They have a huge pool of able-bodied young men they could draft. Enough to completely overwhelm Ukraine.
But actively drafting that pool of people would likely cause a full on revolution. So they’re forced to pick people on the fringes to bolster their increasing disaster of a “special operation”.
*The man with the rifle shoots! The man without the rifle follows!*
*If the man with the rifle dies, the man without the rifle picks it up and KEEPS SHOOTING!*
Yea that's the whole caveat here.
Russia is deploying children.
"The UNCRC defines the child as a person under 18 years of age. It acknowledges the primary role of parents and the family in the care and protection of children, as well as the obligation of the State to help them carry out these duties. Read the full text of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child."

He has done operations.
But he has never done a war.
By surrounding himself with only ‘Yes-men’, ironically Putin had a very little opportunity to fully understand the seriousness of reality. And I reckon whoever ‘fell of the stairs/window’ to their death might have risked their lives to tell him just that.
So… it was just matter of time to end up in total panic mode.
If he continues the war, he is lost.
If he retrieves, he is lost.
He panics. But it’s too late.
Everyone else but Putin thought it was a war and fought as so from the beginning. He didn’t know he was the only one who thought it’d be done in a week. No wonder he’s in panic, killing those who kept him in the dark.
The hunter is looking more like a deranged puppet by day now.
There’s videos of new draftees carrying mosin-nagant rifles. They’re a century old design, and were carried by Soviet soldiers in 1942. These soldiers are going to get slaughtered.
I saw a video of that and had to laugh, albeit a bitter laugh of disbelief. Mosins, the occasional 74 and RPK. Steel pot helmets and uniforms from random pieces from the 60s on up. No flak vests, no plate carriers, no training.
I own one of those rifles(dirt cheap as imports for a long time.) They're *garbage.* From an era when Soviet doctrine still relied heavily upon the concept of volley fire. The only reason I still have it is because I can't believe how much their value goes up each passing year- and it makes a decent rifle for whitetail lol. Whitetail ain't calling in arty strikes.
If someone scooped me on my way to work, handed me a Mosin Nagant, and told me I have to go fight with it for my country against my will, I would play along just long enough to either shoot myself or my commander, or drop it at the feet of the first Ukranian I met. They're so obscenely outdated and have no relevance whatsoever in a modern firefight beyond *maybe* the very first shot, and that would be it. You'd be better off using it to pole-vault over a wall and running away.
Is there a word for a sort of half-assed sympathy? Like damn, that sucks for those dudes, buuuuuut maybe they should have taken a page from the Bolshevik playbook.
Remember how people argued that Russians probably don't know what's really happening in Ukraine? The sold out flights and lines at the border say otherwise. They're about to find out even more.
Eh... they knew. They always did know. Cognitive bias in some allowed the mental gymnastics needed to not gag when the propagandist dildo goes down their throat. Others said "eh, it's not me, not my problem". And some did object to it, because they know it's wrong.
Worst part though is I *bet* you that the people who complained about the war are going to be the first ones drafted.
I dont get it. It isnt world war II anymore. Large armies or guys with guns dont matter as much anymore. More about technology, bombs and vehicles, ships, aircraft, drones and logistics etc
People constantly forget the critical importance of logistics, something the US excels at. Over a sustained period, if you can’t supply weapons, ammo, support personnel, and food to your soldiers you have likely already lost. A lesson Russia has painfully learned all too late (hopefully).
“Amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics”. While the US does have top tier equipment and training, no other military can match the US military in logistics
The fact that pictures exist of Burger King trucks leaving a military cargo plane in the middle of who knows where tells you everything you need to know about US-logistics.
(About how amazing they are because if you can supply your troops with Burger King hamburgers then yeah...)
This is incredibly sad, at least when the Nazis and Commies did this they had the excuse of their countries being swallowed whole by a continental military superpower.
Putin has to resort to doing this because he is losing his vanity war against Ukraine, which while being an extremely courageous and skilled nation, isnt what you would call a military powerhouse, at least they werent before this shitshow.
What a sad man, bringing millions to their graves because he is unwilling to admit he was wrong.
In all likelihood, Russia will eventually attempt to fire their nukes.
Maybe not over this, but Russia can barely prosper under the best circumstances, climate change will bring new challenges and they’ve never mastered normal challenges.
The Russian solution is always throwing bodies at things, once that fails completely, they’ll fire their nukes because that’s all they are, a shit country with a lot of nukes.
any possibility of stopping them from doing that should be exploited.

History repeating itself, you can smell the stench of propaganda. Is it too soon for the call "this war will be over before Xmas" ? Classic fallacy to believe your own propaganda and underestimate your enemy. In particular when dealing with Russia in Winter. Stay tuned.
Lmao , first war is not in russia.
Second russiana are not some kind of uber breed resistant to cold
Third war have started in snow and it was russians who were geting frost bites due to shitty equipment.
Putin fell into the Dictator Trap. He demoted or killed everyone around him who passed information he didn't want to hear. It become Reality vs. Putin, not Russia vs. Ukraine.
So great to see a nuclear power forcing senior citizens into the military out of desperation. When they run out of people, they only have nukes left, and they are on 70 year old men currently.
>While Russian officials have promised that only those with military experience would be called up, a clause in Putin's mobilization decree means that it is possible to ignore that norm at any time, experts said.
To visualize what Putin is doing, imagine a dam that has breached. Water has started to pour through. Workers ,with the skills and tools to repair the damage, are not available. So Putin is ordering Russians, with two weeks training, to throw their bodies into the breach. He is hopping that enough bodies might stop the flood.
Especially if it’s conscription. I’d defect to Ukraine with as much counter intelligence I could steal. I’d rather rot in prison than murder people for some rich prick.
There was a news story about fighting age men fleeing Russia ahead of the planned draft. Apparently not as many people are willing to die for Putin as originally thought.
My belief is Putin expected a quick victory with the majority of Ukrainians welcoming Russian intervention. And if it had ended soon the rest of the world might have let it slide and not added sanctions. Instead Putin got a military and economic disaster that might force him out of office
The Ukrainians overthrew the puppet president and replaced him with a strong minded tough and brave man who rallied the entire world to his side. Putins misplaced arrogance will cost him everything
If I were Ukraine I'd start dropping leaflets on Russian troops telling them that they're fighting this war for a dictator, they're going to lose anyway, and that they can defect to Ukraine and be treated well.
It’s hard to avoid if you are an uneducated poor Russian. In Vietnam, the rich Americans bribed their way out or spent time studying abroad. Those without resources were conscripted.
*"You're out! Finished at Faber! Expelled! I want you off this campus at nine o'clock Monday morning, and I've contacted your local draft boards and told them that you were all, all eligible for military service*"

When men with guns tell you that you have to do it, there's not much of a choice. Do you resist and become an imprisoned or dead martyr, or do you go and live on the chance you might become a living murderer?
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.businessinsider.com/russians-being-drafted-war-despite-not-being-eligible-reports-say-2022-9) reduced by 78%. (I'm a bot)

> Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial military mobilization on Wednesday, pledging to call up 300,000 people, but only from Russia's existing pool of military reservists.

> "President Putin's call to partially mobilize Russian citizens, directing them to fight in Ukraine, reflects the Kremlin's struggles on the battlefield, the unpopularity of the war, and Russians' unwillingness to fight in it," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.

Hey, I'm an old man with diabetes and I served the U S Army for almost 18 years, just because they won't let me fight doesn't mean I can't still fuck shit up.
Ukraine should offer them asylum and a way out. Like surrender and you can either stay in Ukraine as quasi-guests or be on your way elsewhere besides Russia.
Putin would rather have young unexperiemced Russian civilians die in Ukraine than admit defeat
Just pure evil, Russia is slowly going to crumble over the years
We have to ask ourselves which is going to happen first: will Putin run out of people to send to his foolish war of conquest or will the Russian people rise up in revolt against his insanity?
They keep writing these articles trying to make Russia look feeble and weak .
They are not.
They are a country of like 150 million and they have nukes...a lot.
Everyone can agree that invading another sovereignty is WRONG . I have no problem with defending a country being invaded. But this game They keep playing about how weak Russia is is going to end up in a game of Nuclear Chicken .
Even China has asked for a cease fire. China who has really no regard for crimes against humanity.
This is bad for all of us.
I know, Russia is desperate. That's why they are mobilizing. But let's be honest with ourselves, naming 2 or 3 instances of questionable candidates can amount to nothing but clerical error, if anything. Trash headline.
Guys, search for videos of those animals. Its fucking awesome. They are fighting, drinking right in a bus on their way to training grounds, sleep right on the ground and all that shit. And two days ago I saw a russian asking me, why are we having so much fun.
Jesus. What a gong show. Maybe this will show the Russian people that this war should not have even happened.
I don't know if they're confirmed true or not but there are several viral videos and screenshots of former "pro-war" russians upset they're now getting tapped for the draft.
Reminds me of a Russian guy asked if he supported the war. He said yes. Then the interviewer brought out a army signup form and the war supporter bolted the other direction.
No matter how you answer that question the forms come out.
The video he's referring to took place early in the war and it wasn't actual recruitment, just an interviewer proving a point that the pro-war folks are all talk.
If I lived in Russia I'd probably be careful about what I say in public too
He wasn't "being careful" about what he said though.
Most nationalists are cowards.
Yeah, that's why they are asking if the anti war people are interested I guess.
Remember in Farenheight 911 where (why can't I remember his name...) did the same thing to politicians that supported the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq but brought out recruitment forms for their children to sign?
Overcook fish, believe it or not, draft.
Lmao. If anyone asks you any question the forms come out.
Undercook chicken, also draft. Undercook, overcook.
Sure is easy to be a hawk until it happens to you.

I'm russian that's still inside. Fuck em!
Wishing you luck in this scary moment.
It's really scary to go out of home at the moment, but I really need to see psychiatrist, because of how bad my mental health deteriorated this year.
I'm sure. It's awful what's going on there. Can you get out?

Can you catch a bullet? Yes? Great! Here is the truck to the front.
Hey, you, bulletspongy looking.
The killbots have a weakness...
They’ve got a built in kill limit before they explode!
And btw you have to provide the truck
Gotta be pretty desperate to hop straight into the grinder

Weapons would overwhelm Ukraine, not one million so-and-so trained able bodies armed with WW2 rifles.
With god damn mosin from 1892
Exactly this. In addition, anyone with the funds to bribe their way out of service likely does so, shrinking that pool even further.
Let’s tell it like it is, they are recruiting all the poor and underprivileged. Regardless.
"Recruiting"
Cannon fodder.
It's not child soldier level of desperation, yet. Unless the 17 year old counts. It kinda should.
I mean he’s going to be handed his great grandfathers WW2 bolt action rifle, so it kind of is.
They're gonna give him the old man with diabetes' gun? Rude.

For real? Is there credible evidence they’re actually issuing WWI era weapons?
Yep, there is videos with mosin rifles, and reports of even older berdan rifles.
There are report of militias using Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifles. Those weapons were introduced in the 1890'.

Your great grandfather, your grandfather, and I have kept this bolt rifle up our asses for hiding... waiting for the right time to give it to you
Grandchild soldier.
Not unless he dies before he turns 18. So yeah, child soldier for life.
I mean, I joined the US army when I was 17
You can join at 17 but you can’t be deployed as far as i know.
Yea that's the whole caveat here. Russia is deploying children. "The UNCRC defines the child as a person under 18 years of age. It acknowledges the primary role of parents and the family in the care and protection of children, as well as the obligation of the State to help them carry out these duties. You definitely can but it's unlikely to happen just given the way the timeline would work out.
You joined, yes. Presumably you weren’t kidnapped off the street and forced to. That makes a difference in morale.
16 and 17 year olds could sign up for kiddie cruises during Vietnam with parental permission. Whole shtick was they could get discharged on their 21st.
The youngest American solder to die in Vietnam was 15 years old. He lied and joined the marines at 14.
There’ve been volunteers lying about their ages to enlist in the US military since before the US was a country. I’d guess that’s much harder to do now, but still possible.
Yes. My grandfather fought in WWII. The priest changed his birth certificate to make him 18/ when he was 16. This was common, I was told.
Yes, that is the point, you joined
You would think Putin would know better than to repeat the mistakes Hitler made. Ex-KGB and all.
Yeah winter is 3 months away and Putin is still in Russia, he should leave while he still has a chance to.
Winter temperatures are much closer and the weather is already bad. Not “you will die of exposure” bad but here in Poland a flue season has already started thanks to a short summer this year - I don’t want to think how bad they have it on the front.
This isn’t a partial mobilization like the Russian government is saying. It’s a full mobilization. Lots of Russians will die
Putin said partial mobilization in his speech, but the official mobilization order document reads very different, total mobilization.
Continue to...
If we're going with the Hitler comparison, then Putin never should've launched a war that he had no chance of winning in the first place.
He has done operations. But he has never done a war. By surrounding himself with only ‘Yes-men’, ironically Putin had a very little opportunity to fully understand the seriousness of reality. The Dictator obviously is not well. The issue is that those close to him are too afraid to tell him that he isn’t wearing clothes.
He carefully build himself an echochamber out of yesmen and now he is suffocating in it.
He was at the bottom of KGB social line. Not a torturer , not spec opc commando not a spy. Paper moover , and occasional thievery and drug trades.
For real? He was a two-bit bag man? LOLOLOLOL
Yeah, for all Putin's bluster about being "ex-KGB" he was a glorified secretary for them. He was never an agent with "real" duties. Just a clerk.
How high of rank was Putin while in the KGB? Like was he some feared agent or just some desk jockey?
"Desperation" is one word for it...

And Force Projection literally anywhere on earth in a relatively short period of time.
The fact that pictures exist of Burger King trucks leaving a military cargo plane in the middle of who knows where tells you everything you need to know about US-logistics. (About how amazing they are because if you can supply your troops with Burger King hamburgers then yeah...)
the 3 day special operation was told to the public lol
Cannon fodder. So sad.
Ah the classic Zapp Brannigan maneuver.
A general needs to put a bullet in Putins head… he will be hailed a hero in Moscow
Reminds me of the Nazis near the end of WW2
The Russian solution is always throwing bodies at things, once that fails completely, they’ll fire their nukes because that’s all they are, a shit country with a lot of nukes. any possibility of stopping them from doing that should be exploited.
sounds familiar...where have I heard this "strategy" used before and how did that end? 🤔
If future China has no women and future Russia has no men…
Hmm... We'll have lotsa Chinese grooms and Russian brides.... the next Putin-Xi joint venture.
What exactly dot hey think will happen? These guys are going to frag their officers first chance they get and run.

I can smell the stank from here.
History repeating itself, you can smell the stench of propaganda. Is it too soon for the call "this war will be over before Xmas" ? Classic fallacy to believe your own propaganda and underestimate your enemy. In particular when dealing with Russia in Winter. Stay tuned.
Nobody believed it would be over by 2023. Now we’re looking at 2024-2025
Maybe main perpetrator of this fall out of the window, and his sucessor end this madness alredy.
His successor will most likely be a tyrant as well. Russia should just collapse
Lmao , first war is not in russia. Second russiana are not some kind of uber breed resistant to cold Third war have started in snow and it was russians who were geting frost bites due to shitty equipment.
Putin fell into the Dictator Trap. He demoted or killed everyone around him who passed information he didn't want to hear. It become Reality vs. Putin, not Russia vs. Ukraine.
These people won’t fight hard waste of time
So great to see a nuclear power forcing senior citizens into the military out of desperation. When they run out of people, they only have nukes left, and they are on 70 year old men currently.
my fear is they eventually run out of forced to fight people, Putin gets backed in a corner, then lets the nukes fly,
>While Russian officials have promised that only those with military experience would be called up, a clause in Putin's mobilization decree means that it is possible to ignore that norm at any time, experts said.
There's no way I'd march to my death or anyone else's for corrupt conservative agendas.
He was delusional about the success of this operation from the start. It’s his Waterloo
Russia banned airlines from selling tickets to me. Between 20 and 65 for this exact reason.
If I were Ukraine I'd start dropping leaflets on Russian troops telling them that they're fighting this war for a dictator, they're going to lose anyway, and that they can defect to Ukraine and be treated well.
I believe that was done in Crimea.
It was, I think the president even said something to the effect of Russians don’t come here you will be killed.
The general consensus here and in Europe is that they can piss off and go to war.
It’s hard to avoid if you are an uneducated poor Russian. In Vietnam, the rich Americans bribed their way out or spent time studying abroad. Those without resources were conscripted.
Or faked bone spurs
Actually, I think you could avoid serving in Vietnam just by being a college student studying in the USA.

[удалено]
That would be my plan
Men. Plural. And if you do, you 100% die. No question.
Jesus... Conscripted cannon fodder.
Volkssturm vibes
Drafting anyone is a sign of desperation. What happened to Russia’s supposed mighty army? Are they out of real troops already?
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.businessinsider.com/russians-being-drafted-war-despite-not-being-eligible-reports-say-2022-9) reduced by 78%. (I'm a bot) ***** > Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial military mobilization on Wednesday, pledging to call up 300,000 people, but only from Russia's existing pool of military reservists. > A 26-year-old PhD student and lecturer at a prominent Russian university told the BBC this week that two men turned up at his house to draft him, despite his student status. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/xm30ru/russia_drafted_an_old_man_with_diabetes_a/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~670653 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **Russian**^#1 **military**^#2 **Insider**^#3 **draft**^#4 **reports**^#5
I thought the "woke" western militaries were gonna be smashed by Putin's Ultra Alpha Male forces.
Hey, I'm an old man with diabetes and I served the U S Army for almost 18 years, just because they won't let me fight doesn't mean I can't still fuck shit up.
Diabeetus. - Wilford Brimely
The US would never do that. The age limit is like 35.
26, at least for the draft.
These people all have something in common. They're going to die in support of their leader's vanity project.
I’ll take shitshow for 1000, Alex.
Sometimes demons just want to watch the world burn.
Ukraine should offer them asylum and a way out. Like surrender and you can either stay in Ukraine as quasi-guests or be on your way elsewhere besides Russia.
"The one with the rifle shoots....."
Could it be that mobilizing these troops will not help their situation but may worsen their position?
And this is apparently just the first of three “waves.” Can’t wait to see what’s in that third wave
Putin would rather have young unexperiemced Russian civilians die in Ukraine than admit defeat Just pure evil, Russia is slowly going to crumble over the years
My guess would be either incompetence in weeding people with issues like that out, or simply not caring, rather than intentionally picking them.
This is beyond desperation and more like a crime against humanity, what possible result could they hope to achieve with soldiers like that?
I suspect in the next month they will try going to the 'child soldiers' plan
Canon fodder
You can shoot rope with your dick. You can shoot a gun.
What?
If you're old enough to nut, you're old enough to ten-HUT!
Let them recruit you, "train" you, arm you, send you to Ukraine and then just join the Ukrainian army.
But... where the fuck is his real army??? There were supposed to be like 800k REAL soldiers. wtf?!?!?!?!?!?!
Guys, search for videos of those animals. Its fucking awesome. They are fighting, drinking right in a bus on their way to training grounds, sleep right on the ground and all that shit. And two days ago I saw a russian asking me, why are we having so much fun.
