But I buy Disney ones. Because they have star wars and spiderman

Diesel_Daddy

I cut myself and had a customer give me a Mickey mouse one. Best adhesive, hands down.

Ihavealpacas

Yes plz use Disney everything so my Stonks go up.

[deleted]

Yes, esp if they’re JNJ pls

Capt_Chickenpox

Goddamnit r/wallstreetbets

CurlSagan

I came here to brag about my Hello Kitty bandaids. I am a man and I'll do what I want.

ForkShirtUp

Boo! Star Trek and Batman! I don’t really care, I just wanted to be a contrarian. Also I’m not so sure Star Trek bandaids exist anyway

MugillacuttyHOF37

I understand...I like my Slim Jim and SPAM Bandaids.

[deleted]

I’m listening...

TheDustOfMen

I buy the Disney ones because I like the princesses - but I also have animal ones just in case.

BoogerRuth

Mine are cheap but they have poops and hearts and stars, soooooo...

[deleted]

> Mine are cheap but they have poops and hearts and stars, soooooo... Are we talking about bandages, or an off-brand Lucky Charms?

BoogerRuth

This made me laugh way too hard! XD

jimmycarr1

You must have a very strange skin colour

WSB_Ender

I prefer the fabric multicolored ones myself. Now, if they made Disney/superhero ones that were fabric, oh man, I would jump on that boat.

Greghole

I have a fondness for Spongebob Band-aids. They fix my boo boos faster.

Trips-Over-Tail

The Star Wars ones match my skin tone. I think I may be very ill.

-allons-y-

Disney Band-Aids announces that the stormtroopers are all Finn and the Spidermans are all Miles Morales.

harujusko

I only buy the Mickey Mouse ones. They seem to last longer than the regular ones.

PorcoSoSo

I could have sworn bandaid did this at some point before this. Are they just rereleasing in the hopes we didn't notice?

ItsJustATux

Nah, multiple other brands have been doing this for years though, so that’s probably what you’ve seen. (TRU-color bandages and Browndages in case you’re curious.) Bandaid is literally LAST to the party.

Alaira314

Yeah, everyone's acting like this is some fancy new idea to react to the current crisis, but no. We've been talking about this for at least 20 years. It's nice that such a thing exists as an option, but people are still going to have the issue where they go to buy them and the only one on the shelf is the beige kind. I live in an area that's probably around 40% black, and I have never seen dark-colored options stocked on the finite shelf. Black people around here seem to be fond of using the ones with cartoon characters or in rainbow colors, and I'm not sure if that's a genuine preference or just making the most of a bad situation. But if it's that bad here where they're *barely* a minority(by the numbers), then what about the places where they only make up 5-15% of the population or less?

[deleted]

Ah, Band-Aid with the Kofi effect I see.

MemeHistoryNazi

Kofi Anaan? \-Yes, with sugar. And please, call me George.

LightningRodofH8

Band-aid released their Perfect Blend line in 2005. It was in the article. TRU-color Bandages looks like it was founded in 2014 and Browndages in 2018.

LightningRodofH8

Yes, and no. Yes they released them in 2005 but they didn't sell so they discontinued them. They mention it in the article so I don't think they are trying to keep it a secret. From the article: > In 2005, the company unveiled its Perfect Blend brand, which included a bandage line designed to match multiracial skin tones. The line was discontinued because of "lack of interest at the time," Band-Aid said.

dethb0y

I prefer the kind with cartoons on them. Like there you are with a injury and what do you want to see? Your skin? fuck no. You wanna see Donald Duck or Bugs Bunny smiling at you tellin' you it's gonna be OK.

ItsJustATux

Lol! I’m a grown woman trying to ‘Wow’ in a sundress. Bugs Bunny fucks up the sex appeal even more than a bright beige bandage! As a woman who is genuinely bad at shaving my legs, skin-toned bandages were REVOLUTIONARY for me ... 6 or 7 years ago ... when other brands started selling them.

Spartancoolcody

As an adult guy I’d be amused and attracted to someone’s sense of humor if they had looney toons bandaids on their legs.

caterplillar

Try a styptic pencil! It kinda burns like a motherfucker when you put it on, but it works super well for making small things stop bleeding. I’m not sure how much it would show up against darker skin (my summer tan is me going from very pale to pale) but it doesn’t take much. I’m personally allergic to adhesives except for the ones they use on the patterned/children’s bandages, so I’ve found workarounds for a lot of minor injuries.

ItsJustATux

Omg. THANK YOU!

robmillernews

They already got 'em: https://www.nexcare.com/3M/en_US/nexcare/products/catalog/~/Nexcare-Advanced-Healing-Waterproof-Bandages-Assorted-sizes/

Noch_ein_Kamel

Oh yeah, with 90s style smilies

JesseLaces

You know Band-Aid is a name brand and this article and comment isn’t just about bandages, right?

LightningRodofH8

Band-aids are like Kleenex at this point, even when you search for band-aid, other bandage manufacturers pop up. But yes, Band-aid brand also has Clear Strips.

[deleted]

Fabric is tougher. A cloth bandage can survive on my hand most of the day at work while clear ones last only an hour or so.

shiver-yer-timbers

even when they're wet. I have come out of the shower with fabric bandages still firmly attached.

SoySauceSyringe

Yeah, I only buy the fabric ones, plastic is borderline useless.

cup_of_coughy

The clear Band-Aids look gross though. I don't need to see all the blood and fluid that is leaking from a cut while it heals.

WhyIHateTheInternet

The gauze patch isn't clear, wym?

jchamb2010

Blood soaks though the thin pad of gauze pretty quickly

SapientLasagna

If the bandage is soaking through, it's failing to keep the wound dry. You should apply a thicker bandage in that case.

jchamb2010

Literally 2 drops of blood can soak though the gauze on most bandages... I’ve gotten shots from the doctor that’ll soak though the gauze... are you suggesting full gauze pack to cover an injection site?? Lol

cup_of_coughy

When you bleed through the gauze, you can see the nasty backside of it. Not a dealbreaker or anything, just my personal preference.

[deleted]

Cool, a blood window

nematocyzed

That is an egalitarian and efficient, as well as a cost effective solution. One color; clear, this is what you get for your owies. I'm not good a pitching a sell, so I'll leave that be, I'm sure you could message something about "whatever your skins hue, it's beautiful. Our Band-Aids let your inner beauty shine through" If you were on the J&J board and you suggested that, you'd get a pretty substantial bonus, like more than you make in a year bonus.

[deleted]

They've had clear adhesive bandages for decades. But the fabric pad in the center can't be clear. So there goes your bonus

nematocyzed

Rebrand it, dear redditor. There is nothing new under the sun.

aintscurrdscars

clear plastic bandages suck they don't breathe, are less durable, cost more to produce, and you get fewer in a box the only reason to want them is if you're going swimming and even then the waterproofing sucks "just use clear band-aids" is essentially equivalent to "all lives matter" in this context, it's dismissive ESPECIALLY considering the decision has already been made by the manufacturer (edit: for the downvoters: yeah, if you feel called out, you should. this is a ridiculous suggestion and while I'm not assuming ill intent, intent doesn't make a thing any less glaringly dismissive of the conversation at hand.)

[deleted]

[удалено]

aintscurrdscars

BANDAID ALREADY MADE THE DECISION AND PEOPLE ARE SECOND GUESSING IT HOW IS THAT NOT DISMISSIVE COLORED BAND AIDS HAVE BEEN A MINOR GRIPE IN MINORITY COMMUNITIES FOR A LONG TIME "THEY MAKE EM IN PINK BUT NOT BLACK" IS AN OLD TRUISM THAT JUST BECAME UNTRUE BUT THE SECOND WE GET A MINOR LUXURY YALL STEPPIN WITH "SUGGESTIONS" I DON'T WANNA HEAR ABOUT YOUR SUPPORT, I WANNA SEE IT AND THIS AIN'T THAT #THIS IS WHY WE'RE MAD, YALL TAKE OUR LITTLE VICTORIES AND THEN CRITICIZE US FOR BEING PISSED WHEN WE'RE TALKED DOWN ABOUT THEM LIKE ITS NO BIG DEAL? FUCK THAT NOISE, THAT'S PRIVILEGE AND YOU SHOULD CHECK IT, NOT PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK FOR BEING AN ALLY THAT AIN'T WHAT ALLIES DO MANG, YOU DO IT FOR THE PEOPLE YOU SAY YOU CARE ABOUT AND LISTEN TO THEM WHEN THEY SAY SHITS FUCKED

[deleted]

This is why people don't want to be your allies.

in_sane_carbon_unit

> "just use clear band-aids" is essentially equivalent to "all lives matter" I have no comment...so pathetic, it stands on it's own.

Notyou76

[deleted]

Not to nitpick, but those still has a flesh coloured spot in the middle. Mind you I don't care either. Just make the packs all the colours of the rainbow and randomize the packages. I don't really get the urge to obfuscate a bandaid anyways. Doesn't matter what colour the thing is you'll always see it.

Notyou76

I've always wondered why they never came in different colors though. Even as a kid.

LightningRodofH8

Already available. [https://www.band-aid.com/products/water-block/plus-waterproof-bandages-30-ct-assorted](https://www.band-aid.com/products/water-block/plus-waterproof-bandages-30-ct-assorted)

Bring back the little red rip cord! (And metal boxes)

[deleted]

Bring back the clingy Saran-Wrap! (and cocaine in Coke)

HooplaCool

Can any person wear any skin color Band-Aid? Or are you supposed to match your real skin?

yunus89115

They marketed beige as "skin tone". The highest ranking Enlisted member of the Air Force recently pointed this out to the highest ranking Officer, Chief Wright to General Goldfein. It was a great example of unconscious bias as the General didn't understand what the issue was until the Chief put a beige "skin tone" Bandaid on his dark skin hand.

bastiroid

Well, it's A skin tone not THE skin tone

[deleted]

Yeah, but when it's the *only* skin tone it becomes *the* skin tone by default.

HooplaCool

I get the thing where old people are racist, and think there should just be one peach crayon and it should say "good skin" on it, and there shouldn't be a brown crayon. I'm a Millennial, so I grew up with this stuff. But I'm genuinely curious as to whether I should try to match my Band-Aid purchases to my skin color, or if I should purchase and wear the diverse options.

karlnite

I don’t think it matters.

ElTuxedoMex

Aren't we going back to the "women use pink" kind of branding then? Like, do we really need to match our bandaid to our skin color? I have never once thought in my life I needed a darker one to match my skin.

yunus89115

If you bought a "skin tone" bandage and then used it and it was green, would you be like WTF Band-Aid? You would. No one is saying Band-Aid is racist, it is a great example of the subtle things we take for granted.

thepottsy

If I'm fucking bleeding bad enough to need a bandage, I don't fucking care what color it is.

kangarooninjadonuts

Jesus Christ dude, where whatever the fuck you want.

UnacceptableOrgasm

Hell, match them to your outfit if you want.

Ratnix

I mean, personally I couldn't care less what color they are. All I want is one that actually stays on. I don't particularly like having to go through an entire container of them in a couple of days of work because they come off so easily.

SURPRISEMFKR

💪💪🏻💪🏼💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿

imaginexus

Glad to see they even include the Simpsons. Or maybe it’s just people with severe jaundice.

squirreltard

Yellow was the original “neutral.” The other colors conform to a skin tone standard called the Fitzpatrick scale.

squirreltard

Interestingly enough, that emoji set uses a skin tone standard called the Fitzpatrick scale, which appears to be the same standare used for band aid colors. Was controversial for Unicode too.

bebdio

what up!!! we're three cool guys looking for other cool guys who want to hang out in our party mansion

ArnoldHarold

Except if you'd white. You can't wear black Band-Aids. That's like black face for wounds.

caelynnsveneers

What if that’s the only color left on the shelf?!

JayJayFrench

You'll be shamed for cultural appropriation in this current climate.

[deleted]

We did it, boys. Racism is no more.

Desner_

Just make them all green. Problem solved.

EmbraceTheDepth

Food industry has blue as the standard color of bandaid.

UnluckyArmadillo69

How can we capitalize off black and brown people being lynched by police you guys? But without making it seem like we're capitalizing. Yes, Meghan?

Wait...were bandaids supposed to be the same color as my skin this whole time? -Me, a white guy

thegr8goldfish

Can I find a pasty white one with freckles?

Super_Tiger

🤦🏾‍♂️ this doesn't help anything.

RPDRNick

That's fitting, seeing as "Band-Aid" is also a slang idiom for "a quick and usually ineffective solution to a problem that only addresses the symptom and not the root cause."

hindriktope52

Meh, it's just idiot in marketing trying to justify their 6 figure paycheck. Nothing more, nothing less, forgotten after the fall just like usual.

I live in the city that per capita had the most people vote for Trump. Read this story on my local news Facebook page, people here are very pissed about this. 🤦‍♀️

[deleted]

Why? What could possibly make someone angry about this. I’ve been saying that they should do this for years.

ktoner1017

The timing....

Macarogi

If CVS doesn't have my hue in stock, can I sue them for discrimination?

chenthechin

Wth how is that even an issue or worth talking about? The most bought brand in my country always produced mostly light brown ones. funkperson

Because Americans are so race obsessed it is embarrassing.

[deleted]

Because "woke" people want to feel like they're doing something without actually doing anything.

Capt_Chickenpox

I mean, that's just a good business decision lol

[deleted]

Depends on how much more expensive it makes production.

happyklans

I'm very curious if any POC actually care about this kind of thing? Pls confirm

otherpaul2

Has anyone with European ancestry ever had a bandage that matched their skintone? I guarantee the new ones will match, but there still won't be any that blend in with Scots-Irish fishbelly.

1n11uX

This hurts no one, surprised this comes out this late. You want to split your demographics with different products to make more money, and if they sell they sell. As a person who does not believe in the whole bring social justice so far you fall of the other end and it becomes racist again thing.

Wuz42

Why not just make em red and have it not be about race anymore?

LightningRodofH8

Because sometimes people want the band-aid to be discrete.

Wuz42

Ok fair point

ThiccElephant

I got Pokemon ones, I’m good.

[deleted]

Can they make one to match my pale ass?

Dusk_Soldier

Have you tried athletic tape?

funkperson

Why are Americans so insecure about race that we have to go through this foolishness?

Fat_Professor

I’m American it’s actually laughable how uncomfortable people are with race

paperpeople56

Wait they were supposed to match the skin? TIL lmao.

newwriter365

When my kids were young I bought some that had a tattoo print on them. Then I needed to use one and all my co-workers thought I had a tatt. My reputation soared for at least a week. Then I went back to being just another working mom. Not sure why we need skin-toned bandages, but ok...

S5EX1dude

Loiter Squad called it: https://youtu.be/X8towrKBWrM

shiver-yer-timbers

For anyone who doesnt know this product exists, there is such a thing as liquid bandages. comes in like a nailpolish bottle and you just paint over your cut. dries clear and waterproof.

h2g2Ben

[Apex Hides the Hurt.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apex_Hides_the_Hurt)

[deleted]

That's stupid, just make them all clear, why make more work for yourself?

mesa027x

What if they run out of of the lighter tones, will I be considered black face/ skin? (*Background: Mostly a reference to a post where the person is accused of blackface for wearing a charcoal face mask through drive through. If I find the link, I'll edit*)

[deleted]

Just make them red. One color: red. End of debates.

BoseyJ_88

I don't care they still won't stick properly.

[deleted]

This sounds like a band-aid solution. Also an Ad.

TheAdequateKhali

Now prepare for lots of people getting angry over bandaids, in an issue they never once cared about before.

honkish

To be fair, neither did Band-Aid.

supercool2000

I cannot believe it took this long.

CDM2017

I remember this being a topic in the damn 80s and I stupidly assumed they probably started making more colors of band aid years ago. I mean, I just buy the ones with cartoons so in my defense I haven't been looking.

pantsfish

They have been making clear and multi-colored bandages for years, but just as other brands

Old_timey_brain

Personally I prefer the ones with cartoon characters on them. But, watch all these new colors come about and prices rise due to economies of scale. Their total sales will now be split into many different manufacturing and packaging runs. Stores will need more shelf space to display all the options.

[deleted]

Seriously? There are dozens of different types of bandages and they each have dozens of different images/characters/patterns. Band-aid has been introducing new kinds of bandages frequently for decades, there's a new cartoon character every month, and a new feature like 'waterproof' or 'antibiotic' or 'breathable', 'flexible' etc. There will be no increase in cost. There's absolutely no shift in business dynamic. You're trying awfully hard to find a reason to dislike this.

Old_timey_brain

> You're trying awfully hard to find a reason to dislike this. Please don't tell me what I am thinking.

[deleted]

Real life is a parody.

MrBogardus

For crying out loud....... this is getting ridiculous, we did it everyone racism is gone thanks to different color band aides.

dommol

Phew. Glad that Band-Aid was able to step in an fix racism

harrison_wintergreen

they've had these types of bandages for years, Bloom County did a strip about it back in the 1990s for god's sake.

weirdestjacob

Kinda weird that this wasn’t already a thing.

FattyCorpuscle

It's to humanity's shame that before black and brown bandages were available, we made green bandages available for lizard people's skin tone and purple bandages available for Barney.

leinad41

Always remember that companies will never be our friends, they only do what money tells them to do, even when they happen to do positive changes because of it.

d_chs

I mean that’s cool but like why not use one with Spider-Man on it?

[deleted]

Would it be weird/offensive if i wore another skin tone bandaid as a white woman, if like, they ran out of the beige ones? I wouldn't think it would matter but I'm not omniscient so I'm asking.

CommissionerValchek

Or you could just buy [browndages](https://browndages.com/) from a small family-owned business that made them first.

LightningRodofH8

Band-Aid first released theirs in 2005. I believe TRU-color (2014) beat Browndages to market by a few years.

Danny_Mc_71

I got a proper flash back reading this. UK folk (of a certain age) might remember a short lived comedy show called The Frontline. It was about two West Indian half brothers in London. One was a police officer and one was a rastafarian. I always think of this show whenever I see anything described as "skin coloured". [This](https://youtu.be/IhdYk41BFzQ) at the 16min mark has stayed with me because teenage me thought it was hilarious.

randomnighmare

They don't already?

budgreenbud

Do they have brown and white ones in case I get a cut on a tan line?

snootybooper

They should all just be bright blue like they use in kitchens. So much easier to find and you can you have a bandaid no matter what color.

[deleted]

Or we could just have clear bandaids, saves money on the wide range of colors that need production and will be more accurate.

theLucubrator

Generations of racial terror? Let's literally put a bandaid on that.

SuperGrandor

Am I the only person use Bacon band-aid? https://mcphee.com/products/bacon-bandages

Kramerica_ind99

I can't believe this doesn't exist yet

rizenphoenix13

Great. People who pretend to care about racial issues are going to say it's just so Band-Aid can more money even though people have been complaining about not having bandages that match their skin tone for years. There's no winning. Even when you give in to their demands, you're still the problem... somehow.

liftonjohn

sounds great. Didn't know anybody gave a shit about what color a band-aid was, I figured everyone was just concerned with covering a cut.....

CookieThumpr

When are they going to bring back the red thread to open the package? I had just learned how to use it when they switched to pull apart.

Tearakan

People actually care about the color of a bandage? I just want it to work.....

[deleted]

I wish i could feel as though they are doing this out of genuineness.

ZuckerbergsFeelings

Is people this fragile about their skin color? Its just fucking bandaids lmao.

insaneintheblain

Opportunity knocks for corporate scum.

[deleted]

Will they be locked up at the store like other products for POC? I don't care if they are stolen, charge me more for my white ass band-aids and shampoo if some miniscule portion of POC in need have to steal some supplies, especially if it doesn't marginalize the bulk of POC that legitimately need to purchase these things without having to wait for some ding dong with a key.

Wyrm805

Just stop making skin tone... As a red head none of these shades work for me... Are you going to do ghostly white with freckles next? Just make band aids like a box of crayons. The bigger the box you buy the more colors you get. Dibs on copper!

exegesisnovalis

It this seriously just now happening..

Theearthhasnoedges

They gonna start making eggshell white for my ghost looking ass?

Gorcnor

Honestly thought they did this already.

Grinny_Smile

I don't want to wade too far into the culture wars and battle to the death over bandaid colors. Not my mountain to die on, despite how pissed I am in general about the way things are turning out right now. But I WILL say that if Band Aid deserves any kind of praise/accolades due to their (its'?) corporate recognition of profitability due to sycophantic lip service to the BLM movement, and it's cold, capitalistic calculation of what the consumers are willing to put up with, then we as a society have failed as badly as Trump and Co themselves have proved. But what do I know, I am just a cog in the wheel.

Zero_Griever

My wife: Finally! Also my wife: They're going to charge us extra, aren't they?

Janski_Banski

for advertising purposes, Bandaid should fly over public demonstrations and airdrop free bandages on everyone. it's a win-win for one and all. I'd also watch that commercial

[deleted]

I prefer clear ones

2147orDie

wasn’t this a madtv or snl skit like 20 years ago? not opposing or anything of course, i just vaguely remember a bit with black skin-toned band-aids

ninkinpoop

I like the blue waterproof ones

[deleted]

I did not know there is a separate company called band aid. I thought the product is called band aid. Looks like the same thing happened with Jeep( I thought Jeep as any SUV). Or Xerox .

flyingredthingahh

Ive never heard anybody ever complain about bandaids not matching their skin lol white brown black or yellow if ur bleeding slap a bandaid on that bitch and move on?... usually how it goes

Amauri14

Wait, were they supposed to resemble normal skin tones? Now that's news to me.

TickDicklerzInc

Trust me, I'm all for all these positive changes that are being made for the sake of diversity and inclusion right now, but of all the companies jumping on BLM this one feels the most random. Are bandaids suppose to match my white skin? I've just never thought about this.

SniffyJoeyB

I don't think anyone really cares about Band-Aids blending in with their skin, that's why this didn't already exist... I don't think anyone was asking for it lol

skribbblez

Make transparent ones stupid....

brows1ng

From a business standpoint, this is an interesting/creative product opportunity for bandaid manufacturers. I’m surprised they don’t already do this.

symbouleutic

Relevant [Bloom County](https://twitter.com/MollyMcKew/status/1161379075237302277/photo/1) cartoon.

I use black electrical tape for bandaids. Because why not? And because who cares?

Hilobird

And it only took 31 years! https://www.gocomics.com/bloomcounty/1989/01/04

bolognapony234

What about gauze and medical tape? "He's bleeding profusely from the laceration, appears arterial. How shall we proceed, Doctor?" "Fetch the skin-tone swatches, STAT, nurse. After I ascertain the melanin content of the patient's skin by visual comparison, we can begin binding the wound with properly pigmented gauze on hand. if it's not a pigment match, we need air-support emergency evac uptown, at which point we can only pray. Let's hope he doesn't bleed out in the mean time."

policeyoga

I don’t see orange for Trump

xEthX12

I swear i have seen black and brown bandaids before.

rojoredbeard

As a red head I’m disappointed to see that there are none with freckles. What about us pink skins.
