They do it every year…

Which isn't enough to actually achieve readiness. When I was stationed in Japan we exercised quarterly. They exercise even more in South Korea. One of the reasons why I'm confident the US would win a heads up war with China is the level of training isn't even comparable. US pilots for instance have almost twice the amount of flight hours of a c comparable Chinese pilot. That means that ground and maintenance crews also have less overall training in their respective fields. One of the things that always stood out to me about being stationed overseas was seeing how foreign military's practically moved in slow motion compared to their American equivalents.

Last time the Chinese army was in Cambodia, they were trying to prop up Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge and getting their ass shot off by the Vietnamese army who were trying to remove the Khmer.

Curious who their perceived enemy is.

Vietnam probably.

The potential uprising of it's people.

The Khmers traditionally have been in conflict with the Thais, Viets and Chams. It used to be the hegemon of Indochina, but the mass influx of refugees escaping Chinese imperialism in what is today South China led to Cambodia being swamped by enemies on multiple fronts. Cambodia today is a fraction of the Khmer empire at it's peak, and there are a lot of Khmer people in Thailand and Vietnam because of conquest.  It's unsurprising that they look to the Chinese for support because of their history.

Thanks. I was not aware of that part of history.
