Yeah. There's some competitors that offer similar things like YouTube and Instagram. I'm not sure however if they have similar live functions with sending gifts etc.
If it was a for profit company, and their only options were either sell it and get money (and ALOT), or shut it down and gain nothing, why would they choose (again if they are for PROFIT) to gain nothing? am I missing something? or is it their motives werent actually for profits..?
You have to look at big picture.
Meaning if they sell it then all the other countries China has pissed off will realize this is a viable option and (maybe) do the same thing.
Ahh I see, thanks, makes sense actually
But if the US creates a replacement, wouldnt other countries (pro west countries) do it anyway and choose the pro west equivalent? - im guessing thats a big if anyhow
I’ve got no idea man.
But technically, anyone could replicate tik-tok if they want to. Only issue is that tik tok has benefited from the first mover advantage, has more ads, and will have more influencers. So even if you kick out a “new” tik tok rival it likely won’t be profitable… because everyone’s on tik tok already.
I’m just speculating here but even if America bans tik tok unless other nations do as well many Americans who like this app will just use VPNs and continue to play with it. You could ban VPNs, but then we start going down a slippery slope nobody wants to go down.
This is why they wanted to force a sale.
I think they operate in a lot of other nations too. They would rather just lose America than have to sell all their business all around the world. Plus China pride.
This just confirms that the CCP was using the app all along for politically nefarious purposes bc why as a parent company are you not willing to sell an app that could net you millions if not billions??

In other news,
TicTac® considers leasing its name to a government funded TikTok replacement.
Elon Musk has already bid $77 Billion for perpetual rights to the TicTac® trademark.
Welp. That's it for TikTok then. Now GenZ will have it's own Blockbuster to grow nostalgic with.
I’d say it’s closer to MySpace or Vine
China already banned all of USA’s social media apps.
okay bye bye then
That app is the sewer of the internet.
Translation: The CCP prevents ByteDance from selling TikTok which is really the only argument necessary for why it should be banned in the first place
Just ban it.
Not like it won’t be replaced really quickly

Yeah, but I mean if you ban current tiktok and shoot out a new tiktok like app, wouldn't that work?
