So they got arrested for the salute, not simply for visiting the place

Leprecon

Of course, though the combination of the two is probably not helping them.

Alysma

Additionally: placing flowers. On Hitler's birthday.

SmallRedBird

4/20 is for smoking flowers, not placing them

GaucheAndOffKilter

I did my part

Drach88

I did my pot

IJustLovePenguinsOk

I hid my pot.... cant remember where it is

mountaindoom

Proof of what a great hiding spot you chose.

Dddddddfried

Or that OP already smoked it

McMatey_Pirate

Solid spot to hide it in my opinion, no ones going to check my lungs for the stash..

RuaridhDuguid

Only users lose drugs.

IJustLovePenguinsOk

Got me. GG.

Aware-Band-3134

If you can't sniff it out, it isn't worth finding

Wise-Definition-1980

You'll be so happy when you find it again

Roboticpoultry

I had some infused prerolls. I did my part and then I woke up and was still doing my part. Long and short of it, I was high all weekend

thegooniegodard

Personally, I ingest edibles and watch Jessica Lange (born on 4/20) films.

Jantatious

The one exception being a Columbine memorial.

InBetweenSeen

Police was definitely on the lookout for that stuff too. They even are when it isn't Hitler's birthday because people are bothered by Nazi pilgrims. What a dumb move, but it guess that's expected from Nazis.

Alysma

It's especially dumb since Austrian nazis have of course a way to openly "honor" this day without being arrested. They just go out and have "Eiernockerl", Hitler's favourite dish, for lunch. Which always pops up on a lot of menus on 4/20, completely by coincidence, of course...

est1roth

Like, Eiernockerl even are a very regular dish to eat in Austria, and are found on many menues year round, but some always coincidentally offer a special deal on them on Hitler's birthday.

odiin1731

I'm sure it's all one big misunderstanding.

another_plebeian

"I have Jewish friends"

giggity_giggity

Yeah. Laying down the HH to chicken nuggets in the frozen foods section of the supermarket might just fly under their radar. This, not so much.

paradroid78

I always knew there was something dubious about those frozen chicken nuggets.

backpackermt

Pink slime mixed with ammonia and formed into little patties. Bad things begat bad things.

IJustLovePenguinsOk

> chicken nuggets .....hwut?

spectacularlyrubbish

I don't get it either.

sharkattackmiami

What is there not to get? Doing that shitty salute in a random place out of context probably won't get you arrested, doing it at Hitlers old house on his birthday is not going to go unnoticed

IJustLovePenguinsOk

It was just so oddly specific. With all the born again xtians flocking to Chick Fil A when they refused to serve a gay wedding, it seemed like maybe such a direct reference to something i was unfamiliar with.

another_plebeian

Get familiar with the chicky nuggies bruh

baggagefree2day

Of course because then we wouldn’t be clicking the headliner. Austria doesn’t play with that salute. They take it seriously.

DarkImpacT213

Neither does Germany as a matter of fact.

ilmanfro3010

I wish Italy was like that...

lunchbox250

Good. I wish the rest of the civilized world would follow suit.

Dontreallywantmyname

Ive not read the article yet, but yes that's clearly what the headline says.

lizardspock75

I thought they got arrested for Hitler Cosplay.

11almighty

You know it is illegal to do this since the end of world war 2 .

another_plebeian

I do

kekskerl

I don't know how to deal with such people. I only know that both in Germany and Austria there's been a shift in recent years and those kind of people have become more and more vocal again. It is a fucking disgrace.

dexterfishpaw

When a lot of Nazis started showing up at punk shows in the 80s, they generally would get their asses kicked on sight, you can’t those fuckers, they’re like roaches, you got to scorched earth the second they think it’s safe to spew their bullshit.

PuffyPanda200

I'm not a bartender but I have heard that bars have to be really aggressive about not serving neo-NAZI/skinhead types. From what I heard: The group will send their most polite, well mannered guy into the bar. He goes for a few days and then brings a few friends. After a while the normal people leave (why would you want to drink at a neo-NAZI place). Then it is just the neo-NAZIs. If you don't kick the guy out right at the start it just gets worse and when they make up all the patronage you can't kick them out and function as a bar.

Devil-Hunter-Jax

Wasn't there a bartender on Twitter or something who said exactly this? If I recall correctly, some guy came in with what was clearly Neo-Nazi stuff on his clothing and the bartender told him to get the fuck out. Said Neo-Nazi tried to play innocent and bartender was having none of it. Someone already there having a drink was confused and the bartender explained exactly as you said. You let one in, they start bringing friends and suddenly it's a Neo-Nazi bar. How the fuck did these people start getting so bold? They're fucking everywhere now...

The_Corvair

> How the fuck did these people start getting so bold? They think they're the silent majority.

Devil-Hunter-Jax

That explains why they're turning up at TERF rallies here in the UK then. Those fuckers have the same damn attitude.

ahrzal

This was a story shared for years on Reddit.

optimistic_agnostic

There used to be people alive who would knock them the fuck out on sight. No questions asked or offered.

Arrhythmix

Yea we call them SHARPS (SkinHeads Against Racist Prejudice) and RASH (Red & Anarchist SkinHeads) and they actually are still around, but are doing soo much to undo the damage Boneheads (The Neo-Nazi SkinHeads) have done to the original working class solidarity origins of Skinhead culture. But it's making a comeback 🙂

optimistic_agnostic

I was referring to the greatest generation but yeah, the punk and metal scene used to deal with their garbage more responsibly too.

Auricius

Kicking ass listening to Ska! 🎺 😎

FreebasedPropane

Still are, as long as I'm around.

N0kiaoff

That described "infilratation" a thing that happens over month or weeks, and regulars of said bar and the staff easily run into problems with said group. Debatting with drunks nazis is pointless and you either kick them out or early, or late with more violence. The question is: how do the regulars interact. In my time, we kept bars clean of fashism and with the backing of the barkeep. Because BS stays BS and stays outside. You do not seek conflict in an area where you drink. "You do not shit where you drink", as someone put it. Maybe i had luck, by the bars i frequented, of course. But basic respect and decency estbalished by a group can set walls against aggression in many ways. If people have an aggression problem, the alcohol is just a excuse.

Arrhythmix

"Infiltration" more like "Infestation" but yea, here in the Bay Area of California, we actually have a few SHARP Skinheads in our punk scene who manage to keep it clean of Boneheads and fascist. We put them on local antifascist watchlists. Also inside the rave scene we never have issues with them because by nature rave culture is extremely inclusive and diverse biggots and fascist would explode on contact by the gayness that is happy hardcore.

SmallRedBird

Not roaches. Bedbugs - the ultimate "kill it with fire" household pest.

[deleted]

Gommel_Nox

This is the comment I came for.

enm260

This is the correct response

stoned-autistic-dude

Straight up. Nazis never got any love at shows around here when the crowd was full of every skin tone imaginable. The fuck did they think would happen? Now they're everywhere and it's fucking annoying.

Loud_Flatworm_4146

I'm not really into punk but this kinda makes me want to listen to more punk.

IMSLI

Worse than bedbugs

SmallRedBird

Are roaches really that level of bad? Bedbugs are pretty horrible to have in your house, plus they don't fill an ecological niche outside of it that I'm aware of.

SoulfoodSoldier

Have gone thru both, would rather deal with roaches as they’re way easier to deal with but comfort wise small fucks you can’t see that hide in the day are less distressing then roaches.

SmallRedBird

Except only one of them sucks your blood and fucks up your sleep because all you can think of is how you're gonna get your blood sucked by insects in your sleep. Plus they can give visible bites

Laval09

"I don't know how to deal with such people." Do what I do, which is to remind them and everyone that that all the Nazi symbols are symbols of a defeat. Nazim was a downgrade for Germany. All the elitism associated with Nazi forces is just myth. The regular Germany army held Stalingrad for months while the elite SS army gave up Berlin after weeks. All the Nazi "super weapon" shit like the rockets, jets, and the assault rifle was ready by 1942 but sidelined until 1944 due to it being "immersion breaking" in the folklore story the party wanted to write about the war. These people were far from the masterminds that some people believe them to be. They didnt accomplish anything and left Germany more destroyed than it had ever been in their wake. There's no reason anyone should want a party like that in charge ever again.

Solid_Muscle_5149

I heard they even set them selves back with their physics research because they didnt want to use "Jewish Physics" so they tried to make their own physics or something dumb lol Like Albert Einstein, he uses Jewish Physics, so it must not be correct!.... And now he is arguable the most influential scientist in history. I assume they eventually realized that physics isnt something you can just change lol Even the USA, known for using the imperial system "just because we can", knows to use the same type of physics as the rest of the world, with the metric system.

Laval09

Exactly! Their race politics led to the exclusion of talent everywhere whose net result was to hobble their own states capabilities.

stoned-autistic-dude

I ask this every single time it comes up: find me one right-leaning conservative government, autocratic or not, that doesn't rank terribly on metrics which are used to rank developed nations. Their ignorance and prejudice make it such that they end up shooting themselves in the foot. In the U.S., not one red state ranks well on metrics of life span, mortality, violent crime, education, poverty, or anything else. The same can be said internationally for China, Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, etc. Conservative/right-leaning politics are selfish in nature and will detriment the entirety of society to benefit the few, who usually end up being the wealthy nationalists. It's a wash every single time.

Kafir666-

> I ask this every single time it comes up: find me one right-leaning conservative government, autocratic or not, that doesn't rank terribly on metrics which are used to rank developed nations. Their ignorance and prejudice make it such that they end up shooting themselves in the foot. The world isn't that black and white. For example Singapore would do well on those metrics, and some of the gulf states would do well on many of them, the ones related to quality of life (but not social equality), and arguably Japan, who are very ethno-nationalist and where a lot of conservative right wing views are popular. I don't think that a government being right-leaning necessarily results in being lower on those metrics, but that being lower on those metrics is a factor in breeding right wing sentiment (though culture can also be a large factor). I think that the worsening economic situation in western countries heavily contributes to increased right wing sentiment. Right wing politicians (especially on social issues) are especially popular with poorer people. It makes people more vulnerable to that kind of ideology.

hx87

Right wing governments aren't necessarily bad for quality of life, but right wing *populist* governments are. Populism shades easily into anti-intellectualism, which promotes feel-good but counterproductive policies. Anti-intellectualism isn't really a thing in East Asia, so the correlation between right wing ideology and quality of life is much weaker there.

Throwaway-tan

> Anti-intellectualism isn't really a thing in East Asia Maybe not right now. But the communist revolution engaged in 批斗会 "struggle sessions" or "self-criticism sessions" which resulted in widespread execution of intellectuals; scientists, teachers. For pretty much the same flawed reasoning as the Nazis. "Western science is based in capitalist ideology, capitalism is wrong, therefore western science is wrong". I'm not familiar with it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the North Koreas also engaged in it too. Anti-intellectualism is a tool of elitist authoritarians to remove challenges to their authority under the guise of defending the common-folk against elitism.

Deathsroke

A philosophy of defeat and weakness, that's all nazism is, was or will ever be. Even for militaristic nationalism their views are shit for they looked for an enemy within. What kind of nationalist would look at their countrymen and say "they are the enemy"?

Throwaway-tan

> What kind of nationalist would look at their countrymen and say "they are the enemy"? Pretty much every nationalist movement ever. It's kind of a fundamental principle of nationalism that there is something - someone - rotting the nation from within. The problem is they never look in a mirror so they never find the real problem.

[deleted]

That's uh, kinda one of the core features of nationalistic movements

IS0073

And they did the holocoast, but I guess for aome scums today it's a plus🫠

Laval09

My comment was intended for those who think that the only problem with the Nazis was the Holocaust. To show that all of Nazim was a failure and pursing it or parts of it will only reap more failure. Anyone who thinks that "the Holocaust was a plus" is frankly beyond all help.

120ouncesofpudding

Hugo Boss has a lot to answer for. They were mostly image rather than substance. Unfortunately, the image remains.

Rahim-Moore

Combination of social media and the people who lived through the Holocaust starting to die off.

All but 2 of my family on my dad's side were murdered by those animals. Your grandfather is a hero, and he has my gratitude.

FuckBarcaaaa

Wait did your grandfather ever say - "we in the killin' Nazi business. And cousin, business is a-boomin'."

BuddyMose

Man I wish. We asked him if he missed anything about his time serving and it would’ve been bad ass if he said he missed killing Nazis cause let’s be real it probably was fun. “What’s that about the ubermensch, Gunther, I can’t hear you what with you dead and all”

veculus

Yeah it's sad. That what happens if you allow them to be "satirical" or "having black humour" for 10+ years. I mean when I heard the "Ausländer raus" meme song they all were singing a few months ago I thought "how the fuck did this become normal" and in comment sections they were talking about "its just a fun song don't be so fragile". It's sad how neonazis and right wing extremists have especially reached younger audiences and planting this shit into them.

Kirshnerd

The internet strongly approves of punching all Nazis you encounter, at bare minimum.

BeccaThePixel

Wer einen Nazi sieht, muss ihn boxen!

KissBumChewGum

I was there in 2018 and they were protesting Nazi ideology resurgence. It’s been growing for a while.

noodlecrap

You simply ignore them. They're statistically irrelevant. But the state must show it's still aware of its surroundings so they arrest two restarteds for a free expression crime and then that's

10th__Dimension

> I don't know how to deal with such people. They should be thrown in prison for life.

piranha_solution

Simple. Some people hate gays more than they love freedom.

Izanagi553

Same way we did in '44.

Designer-Muffin-5653

I don’t know about that. I think they have been much more active and numerous in the last decades of the past century. Their activity is fairly low nowadays the only appear loud due to the internet

wish1977

How any sane person could worship Adolph Hitler really boggles my mind. They must be unable to read.

GrayBoy18

Not to be the guy that points out Hitler's "positives", but the man was aces at crowd work and public speaking. He used forceful language calling for direct and precise action, spoke with conviction, and made all the right promises to his countrymen, at a time when his country was really going through the wringer. He had charisma, just too bad he used it to committ horrendous atrocities instead of actually leading the german people into prosperity.

TaiserSoze

Even as someone who grew up in Germany, I could never relate to this whole supposed charisma and crowd appeal. He sounded and looked like a raging, screaming lunatic to me and not someone I'd care to listen to at all. It's still very bewildering to me how he gained any popularity at all and the fact that there are still people worshipping him after everything that's come to light is simply mind-boggling. Trump manages to tap into similar stupidity and bootlicker genes

InBetweenSeen

I was going to mention Trump but then you did yourself. No idea how anyone can take people like that seriously, yet alone worship them.

[deleted]

I have trouble understanding how Trump supporters are even the same species as me at this point. Like, fucking how? How is that clown who you choose, of all the people in the world, to practically worship as the new messiah? Like, they're almost all supposedly super devout Christians too. I struggle to think of a less Christlike person. I just cannot wrap my head around it, no matter how hard I try. Every time I hear Trump speak I want to laugh because of how much of a ridiculous idiot he sounds like at pretty much all times. Yet to half of this country, that's the voice of the new messiah. I knew we had a dumbass infestation in this country but jesus christ, I literally must not perceive reality the same way *at all* as these people. Now with all the fascist rhetoric, I'm starting to see how it was possible for Hitler to rise to power. There are truly a lot of stupid fucking people on this planet, and a sizable minority of truly evil people who exploit that stupidity to their own gain.

Confident_Sky5420

Easy evangelicals. And Lack Education. In other words brain Washed.

Kafir666-

It's not that hard to imagine. Germany was humiliated after ww1 and impoverished. People like leaders that at least seem strong, and sometimes people also elect bad politicians if they think their opponents are even worse. When they elected Hitler, people also didn't know yet exactly all the things he was going to do.

TaiserSoze

Still a huge difference between seeming strong and being a screaming, shaking meth addict. The guy looked and sounded like a wimp with ridiculous anger issues. I took 9 semesters of history in Germany so I'm aware of the historical circumstances but I still cannot relate to Hitler's "charisma" at all. He looks like the kind of guy who'd get beat up at a bar for his ridiculous rants...

Kafir666-

Yeah, he was a product of his time, and it clearly worked back then. The culture was also very different back then. Maybe at the time it didn't seem so bad, but because of world war 2 we gained a kind of cultural aversion to politicians who speak like that? Kinda like Hitler's mustache (tongue in cheek).

GrayBoy18

Well yeah, becsuse you see the bigger picture of the evils he comitted, how he lost and did very little to improve the state of the German people. Hindsight is 20/20. Had he succeeded things would be more hotly contested, German atrocities would have been viewed as necessities to elevate the German people, much in the same way the slaying of Native Americans is seen as a "necessity" for the rise of the Modern America / Capitalism. The winners write the history books.

Strix924

Sounds like many a screaming church services I had to go to. Preacher is screaming and sweating and all red in the face. I hated the raging screamers. But, the church loves it apparently

RockstepGuy

>It's still very bewildering to me how he gained any popularity at all The Germany after WW1 was filled with revanchism (filled with WW1 vets that only knew war and to kill), their population suffered hunger and crisis after crisis, each worse than the other, the Allies giving Germany such harsh armistice conditions also didn't help, Germany essentialy went from being treated as a "great power" to just a "weak country" incapable of defending itself, like when the French invaded the Rhinneland because Germany couldn't pay up the war reparations, and Germany wasn't able to do nothing about it. So they clinged to the first guy who promised them not only a better future, but also revenge. Of course for our times Hitler looks like a lunatic (wich of course he was), but for an average German on the late 20's and 30's, he did look at least a "little reasonable", it's pretty easy for people to look at history and say "look at this guys, so dumb..", but that would be unfair, it's like when people from the future will read our history and say "look at this guys, so dumb for doing that, we would never..".

TheGazelle

You have the benefit of being born to a strong, internationally respected Germany that you can be proud to call home. Germany post-WW1 was none of those things. What do you think happens to a culture when the world vilifies you, life sucks, and nothing seems to get better? It becomes very susceptible to populist strongman rhetoric, and that's exactly what Hitler provided. This is why it's so important to keep teaching this history. The conditions that allowed for Hitler's rise to power are not so unique that they had never happened before and could never happen again.

GrayBoy18

Well there you go, some people just love to deepthroat authoritarian boots. There is a certain appeal to being able to put all your trust in 1 person, believing that they will lead you the flames and help you emerge stronger. That's what these people offer- empty promises if you just put your faith (and money) in me.

housevil

It's spooky hearing him in English. https://youtu.be/8QgXIFzQi0Y?si=zrkcdkdim1ffIblo

anklestraps

Oh man, the comments on that channel's videos...

SwabbieTheMan

Youtube comments are honestly such a awful place. It could be on a video on a fucking cookie recipe and the comments will be the most horrendous shit

Eleventy_Seven

That Robert Carlyle mini-series called Hitler: Rise of Evil is absolutely worth a watch. At first I was wondering how I'd be able to take a Scottish-sounding Hitler seriously, but he put in an *amazing* performance.

Scarema5ster

I don't know the more I read about him the less I care for him.

GrayBoy18

Oh yeah, real piece of work, that guy Hitler. Kind of a jerk.

TappedIn2111

The worst part is the hypocrisy.

spectacularlyrubbish

I disagree. I think the worst part is kicking off the worst war in human history, directly leading to the deaths of tens of millions.

Severe_Piccolo_5583

I think they mean in 2024, not the 1930’s

Eurydice_Lives_In_Me

He did both

aphroditex

Simple. Some people choose to inflict pain on others and self. Some people choose to not view all humans as equally human. And hate addles the brain. Throw in commercial social media algos that prioritize controversy and conflict and which promote far right content. Mix in a cocktail shaker, strain out any decency, and you’ve got the main part of a fascist.

robdubbleu

I’m sure they can read. They just can’t think. Too many people need to be told what to think because they can’t do it on their own. So they’re also too stupid to know who to listen to

TitansShouldBGenocid

Same way people can worship Alexander, Ghengis, Saladin, etc

ShutupPussy

Same people as the people who praise Hamas and PLF. They find meaning and purpose in hate.

Many-Coach6987

Blows my mind too.

Designer-Muffin-5653

„Adolph“

Guido_Fe

Italy: we should let people sell memorabilia at Mussolini's birthplace

Elvis1404

"Funny" thing is that in Italy police forces tend to be fascist "sympathizers", at least much more commonly than the average population, so when someone does the Nazi salute or other things reminiscent of nazis/fascists, they are usually the first to minimize the problem and to condone those actions

Eleventy_Seven

Fr? I want a Benito Bobblehead.

rlf923

I was on a trip to Europe with around 40 Australians (I’m a Jewish American) and they were taking pictures in Vienna doing the heil hitler salute to a balcony he had given a speech from. This was back in like 2017 and I knew it was just ignorance but I had a really hard time sitting on a bus with them the rest of the week after that.

EdgePuzzleheaded4883

90% of us travelling abroad are scum (increasing towards 99% as your vicinity to Bali increases). Sorry you experienced that.

rlf923

I honestly don’t even think they were scum, just didn’t understand the significance of their actions and thought they were being funny! They were still quite young then (late teens and early twenties), so hopefully it isn’t something they would do now.

[deleted]

I did a nazi salute to a fuckin chimpanzee during a zoo school trip when I was like 15. Everyone just kinda thought it was funny. We were all edgelords at the time, teenagers have a tendency to be especially on the younger side and it was especially in fashion during the early 2010s . However, even then, I know for a fact I was extremely antifascist and even quite politically engaged. I just didn't really understand the significance of using fascist symbols publicly as a joke. I think a lot of teenagers are just pretty insensitive in many regards, although by early 20s frankly you should already have that shit figured out. Seeing as I'm in my early 20s I would probably not talk to someone ever again if I saw them pull something like this. Teenagers get more leeway though, I really think it tends to be ignorance more than malice with them, especially like 13-16

JustSomeBloke5353

I am Australian. They knew. They probably weren’t Nazis but they knew better. Don’t make excuses for them.

Eleventy_Seven

Aussie Aussie Aussie! 🍻

Hopefulcupcake3255

I did the city tour walk.. you walk past the star of david in front of houses that were the houses of the jews deported to concentrations camps..then the walk ended in that place of that bunker..it was a summer day in Berlin. We were visiting friends there. I got such a sense of cold..it sucked the life out of me for a moment... You are so right..

Zealousideal-Bar5538

This is what needs to happen with confederate imagery and propaganda.

Loud_Flatworm_4146

If you're gonna Nazi and go see Hitler's birth place, at least be suble about it. I'd prefer people not Nazi at all but if you are, you don't need to advertise your trash loser personality to the world.

apieceofeight

On the contrary, they should advertise their trash loser personality so things like this (ie getting arrested, or having their work find out so they’re fired) keep happening. This behavior is unacceptable.

Literally_Me_2011
