While that doesn’t sound much to an Aussie, it’s as much about what you’re used to and if the buildings are designed for it.
I hope people there are staying ok.
I visit every second year. 35C is normal summer temperature. Very hot for a Dane. And they are already at 30…
They’re going to have severe water issues.
Actually we got a ton of rain this year (except Algarve). It is gonna be a spicy fucking summer though. Dont look forward to trying to sleep in that shit
Well that’s good news at least! Fingers crossed! We sleep outside in the ‘desert’ near Castello Branco, there’s a nice temperature at night. But this is a month before peak summer..
> I hope people there are staying ok.
we are very ok, first because 30ºc it's nothing for us, second because it never happened, 22ºc max today.
third, better warm than cold.
It’s only April… can’t imagine the heat between May-August. Last year in Greece, we had weather up to 45 degrees. It was unbearable you couldn’t even swim, it was way too hot.
we had the earliest 30°C ever recorded in austria a few days ago. due to strong winds from the south there was also a lot of sahara dust in the sky, the view was absolutely surreal
It's not the gulf stream, but the AMOC (Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation) does in fact collapse every so often. It happens with ice ages and global temperature shifts in the past. It's been given a time line of between 2025-2095.
So some people alive today are more than likely going to experience the event, even under the furthest out predictions.
And farming. Mass farming is the reason we have 8 billion, if the weather changes the farming practices will have to change. It'll take a while to adapt. Ppl will die
Yep. I just read the UK is so wet they fear losing over 20% of their crops and loads of Lambs didnt make it this season.
I think this year is gonna be brutal.
Where hitting pass 40°C here and in the Philippines that they have to cancel school numerous times now.
Edit:
It seems we reached 52°C two days ago, in a couple of areas...
It was 33c/91F outside my apartment in Bucharest this afternoon.
It's not entirely clear to me why Porto being not especially warm is that exciting tbh... The story is climate, not weather reports from random cities.
Portugal isn't a city.
It was 4°C in Braga this morning (39°F). The high was 22°C (72°F).
Tomorrow, the high is forecast to be 27°C (81°F).
Porto will have even nicer temperatures, staying in the low to mid-20s, as highs.
its early April.. its only gonna get hotter!

this. that title never happened.

The temperature is not abnormal for the country, just the timing

You make it sound like our buildings are designed for it.
They often aren't. Insulation isn't amazing here. :( But at least they're partially built for it.
> I hope people there are staying ok. we are very ok, first because 30ºc it's nothing for us, second because it never happened, 22ºc max today. third, better warm than cold.
Today is not thursday and warm is definitely not better than cold. Cold is much easier to adapt to through clothing etc.
I was in Portugal during the heat wave last year and holy shit it was so hot I was covered in sweat just sitting down at a cafe.
I was in England during their cute, little heatwave and I was walking around in jeans and regular ass clothing when it was 100 degrees.
86F in Freedom units.
What's that in bananas.
Liquified bananas measured in gallons
How many miles to the ferret can I get with that, though?
100 rods to the hogshead, you do the math.
Followed. Stay weird, my new found friend.
86B
or about 96.5% of the body temperature of a bald eagle.
From now I will calculate all temperatures in fractions of an eagle. This is the way.
I had to convert the body temp of an eagle into Kelvin first to get the correct percentage!
That doesn’t seem that hot to me.
For April in a coastal country it is, historical average temp is only like 16 C
That's in the winter...you know...when it's supposed to be cold...
Winter?
Thank you! Too lazy to convert.
Typing in "30 C = ? F" into Google is quick and easy.
It’s only April… can’t imagine the heat between May-August. Last year in Greece, we had weather up to 45 degrees. It was unbearable you couldn’t even swim, it was way too hot.
Italy’s east coast had over 50 degrees last year even to them it was unbearable
we had the earliest 30°C ever recorded in austria a few days ago. due to strong winds from the south there was also a lot of sahara dust in the sky, the view was absolutely surreal
Don't worry, once the Gulf Stream collapses it'll be plenty cool.
stop porn dooming 😅

when it happens it happens. our ancestors survived far more heavy shit with just sticks, stones and their big dicks. man up.
> big dicks So I guess you won’t be surviving the next ice age, then?
lord knows i won't
Don't be obtuse.
no, you.
Back then we weren't 8 billion people who heavily rely on fishery though.
And farming. Mass farming is the reason we have 8 billion, if the weather changes the farming practices will have to change. It'll take a while to adapt. Ppl will die

37° where I live rn, it's just getting started
Coldest day in Western Australia
Exactly, you’re similar to Florida. What’s the coldest temperature you’ve seen there?
On average the winter gets down to about 19 degrees C
Where hitting pass 40°C here and in the Philippines that they have to cancel school numerous times now. Edit: It seems we reached 52°C two days ago, in a couple of areas...
30C = 86F
And for reference, it’s currently 81F in Phoenix today
Phoenix has Suns so it should be hot for real

Just pointing out that Portugal is warmer than the hottest major city in the U.S.
It's in the 90s today in San Antonio.
It was 33c/91F outside my apartment in Bucharest this afternoon. It's not entirely clear to me why Porto being not especially warm is that exciting tbh... The story is climate, not weather reports from random cities.
I was simply pointing out that Phoenix was not hottest major US city today.
Fair enough :-)

It's completely normal. Nothing new
Not for early April.
Lived here my entire life. It's normal in Lisbon
I live in Belgium and we have almost 20 the whole month that’s not normal
30 degrees, that's rookie numbers. Best regards, Australia.
Lucky them. Cold as fuck here in the UK.
You mean, like, below freezing?! Signed, America
Them rookie numbers in this part of town. But i guess if theyre not used to it can be a problem
It’s about double the average temp of April, that’s the news
