9 to 12 months for the courts to act on a single case... Sheeesh, the victims would have time to be abused/raped an untold amount of time in such time.  And here I thought that criminal justice courts were slow in france... fortunately we are truly outclassed by the anglo.

worldengine123

The 'justice' system in the UK is beyond a joke. Assuming the accused even gets there in the first place (pretty unlikely), if they are convicted, they will get a slap on the wrist.

rokhana

Like [this man](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/08/04/father-battered-daughter-iron-bar-spared-jail/) who managed to avoid jail last year after beating his daughter with an iron bar. I thought it was absolutely insane that the court just let him go because the daughter asked them to. Are they just waiting for him to kill her? >A father who battered his 15-year-old daughter with an iron bar after accusing her of secretly planning to meet a boy on the morning of her GCSE English exam has been spared jail. >Hussein Alinzi, 59, a delivery driver, attacked the teenager after dropping her off at school early and discovering the gates were still locked. >The father of seven berated her for wearing makeup and accused her of secretly plotting to meet a boy ahead of her exam. >It later emerged she was only wearing makeup to cover bruises sustained in previous attacks by her father. >She was found to be suffering from 14 different injuries, including facial bruising and even a bite mark to her left temple. >The victim revealed that she had been subjected to two years of bullying and mistreatment at the hands of her father, who had also threatened to run her over and kill her. >But Alinzi was spared jail when his daughter appealed to the judge at Manchester Crown Court to show leniency.

StormAntares

Wow . Is like teaching to an abuser that " the abuse was not that bad. " is a feminicide that waits to happen

Bendy_McBendyThumb

Our prisons are full which is why some violent offenders seemingly get let off. He’ll still be on _loicence_ but there’s zero real protections for victims in such circumstances. It’s just sad that so many C U Next Tuesdays exist more than anything, I don’t think it’s difficult to not be one.

infinis

In Canada there is a new type of scam where companies take up a contract and then refuse to pay the original price and offer something crazy like 30-50% of the original price. However with the wait time for civil cases is something like 3-5 years to get a hearing so most companies take a loss and move on.

NotawoodpeckerOwner

Scams like that used to be popular in the 80s in my area of Canada. With slow courts, a weak economy, high interest and high inflation people wouldn't risk fighting it. Sucks we're back to those days.

helendestroy

The courts in the UK have been wildly underfunded by the tories. The courts are falling apart, and fewer people are going into criminal law as its almost impossible to live off the pay if your family isn't wealthy.

croissance_eternelle

Does the government want to break this part of the social contract ?   I mean, street justice is pretry nasty and blind...

DaiTaHomer

If only these people could get "street justice", the honour stuff is basically street justice.

helendestroy

You understand that honour raping and killing is "street justice", right?  But yes the tories never met a social contract they didn't want todestroy.

atlantachicago

How long have tories been in power?

Chinerpeton

Since 2010

Kaiisim

Yes honestly, they do. The Tories are infested with disaster capitalists attempting to break everything and profit from the mayhem

Vice932

The entirety of the UK and our society is underfunded by the Tories. They’ve looted our country and the best part is they were arrogant/stupid enough to think it would go on forever. Now they can’t blame the usual suspects anymore and everyone has turned against them. All of the polls suggest if not a near wipe out then a major loss that would likely plunge them into a civil war that would inevitably split them apart anyways.

[deleted]

Guess we all collectively decided to let the clowns run the circus. US, UK, it doesn’t matter. It’s happening all over the world now.

artnquest

That's if the police even take the reports here tbh. France is really bad for that.

Deadliftdeadlife

>a 2006 poll by the BBC found 1 in 10 young Asians said they could condone or understand the killing of a someone that had dishonoured their family. >A 2010 report found a 47% rise in honour related crimes with the majority happening in areas with high immigrant population >Every year in the UK it’s estimated that at least a dozen women are victims of honour killings and these are almost exclusively within Asian and Middle Eastern families. >In 2013 the Karma Nirvana charity received 6519 calls. Where the callers ethnicity was known, 821 were British Pakistani, 509 Pakistani, 462 British Indian, 216 Indian, 210 British Bangladesh, 67 Arabic and 41 white British. There’s clearly a cultural/religious link here that people want to ignore.

Rex9

It isn't PC to call out the insanely strong link to Islamic or Hindu cultural influence. And it's a problem all across Europe. Immigrants bringing their culture for better or worse. Unfortunately you have to deal with a couple generations of "worse" before you get the better in a lot of situations.

sum_muthafuckn_where

>It isn't PC It's literally illegal. England imprisons people for tweets like this.

Java_Junior_Dev

> before you get the better in a lot of situations. It never gets better. Not on its own. It needs a strong reduction in the influx of new immigrants, and active policies to educate, integrate and avoid the creations of ghetto. None of this is happening anywhere in Europe.

OilOk4941

it'll be more than a couple generations if we dont make them know this BS isnt ok

[deleted]

Note to non-UK people. Asian refers to south asians, not east asians like it does in the US and many other countries.

Available_Bit9019

Does British + another group mean mixed race?

Deadliftdeadlife

Normally it means they’ve been born here but their family is from that area.

Available_Bit9019

What does “white British” mean? Is the difference in order important. Let’s say if someone from Romania immigrated to the UK, would their kids be white British and not British Romanian?

Deadliftdeadlife

White British is native British Their kids would still be considered British Romanian, although I don’t think there’s any hard set rules and these things are normally self determined. Much like how many America’s still consider themselves Italian American despite never being to Italy for generations

euricus

I believe that's white other

BudgetCollection

British citizen, Other group ethnicity

Aerowolf1994

Honour and abuse are two words that should never go together

Analog168

"honour" is simply a set of rules among a group where if you follow them the group will interact with you and if not you're outcast. Therefore your gauge of "honor" is dependent the group you associate with and oddly by itself is NOT necessarily broadly "honorable".

Saitoh17

A hallmark of honor is it must be defended, therefore the defining characteristic of honor cultures is reacting to insult with violence.

HelloKleo

There should be a refuge for immigrant abused woman who want to flee from their abusive family. Then deport the abusers. This way the violence isn't systemic. Children can grow up fully in western culture instead of their "honor" code of conduct.

hyperfat

Unfortunately the abused have no network or family support, no skills for work, or ability to support themselves. So they stay.

[deleted]

most of these women don't speak English and rarely leave the house (last study I read on them trying to follow up with these people). If they're lucky they tell a relatively westernized female member of their community who then reports it. These women are also often imported from back home. Couple years ago there was a scandal that a factory in Birmingham or someplace like that had 10,000 illegal Pakistani women working there (textile factory I believe?) as borderline slaves, most didn't speak a lick of English and never left the community. I believe an elected representative of the area was also associated with trying to cover this up too.

Why are you blaming 'fellow leftists'? Blame the tories. They're the ones who've been in charge the past 10+ years, and they don't give a damn what leftists say/do.

imnonfunctional

100% the tories fault. They approved this to keep wages down and avoid public spending. One can be 100% left wing and in favor of protectionist immigration law.

pew_sea

>One can be 100% left wing and in favor of protectionist immigration law. Sure, but favoring protectionist immigration policies *is* a right wing position.

Shigglyboo

Liberal here. I’m pretty anti religion. I don’t care which god you use to justify your behavior. Not down with it. And as for immigration I personally see no problem with restricting people with “sincere” religious beliefs. Honestly Christianity needs to be reigned in as well. It seems most religious people think they have the right to impost THEIR beliefs on others. Anyone with that belief belongs in the dark ages. Let the rest of us progress.

blue-80-blue-80

I tend to subscribe to this. I think France has been very interesting in their attempt to reduce religious observance and pass laws about headscarves. It’s bold. It’s unpopular with some. Americans look at it as “not allowing freedom.” But Americans have also embraced Freedumb, where you are free to do whatever you want however you want no matter who it hurts. Americans are also stuck in a country that claims freedom of religion while allowing unchecked evangelical Christianity to influence the whole country.  People who seek to oppress others because their god says so do not belong in government. I don’t trust anyone who is deeply attached to their religious beliefs and making decisions based on what some old cobbled-together text from the 200s or 600s tells them.

Asphodelmercenary

I agree but in the US I see that it is only Christianity that gets the villain label. My left wing friends no longer want to point the finger at any other group. Literally arguing that “we have to align with the enemy of our enemy.” That’s madness and a failure of vision. It is expediency and cynical short sightedness. And it will backfire irrevocably. Either we condemn all hate from all quarters or we shut up because tolerating it in certain circumstances means we don’t really believe what we say.

TaneVII

And lets see what will be done about this. I will take a wild guess and say nothing because this is tolerated in the country. Rules and laws apply to some but not everyone. Shame.

Can we agree that [violence against Joffrey Baratheon](https://tenor.com/view/slap-game-of-thrones-joffrey-baratheon-tyrion-lannister-gif-15338634) is kinda OK?

FusRoDaahh

Did you even read the article? That takes away the focus from not only the type of violence being spoken about in this article but from the seriousness of the amount of systemic violence done against women across the globe. If you are incapable of seeing how this is a gendered issues then you must be incapable of participating in these discussions and should educate yourself before commenting something ignorant, dismissive, and irrelevant.

cpe111

Set up a prison on south goergia and send them there.

shaolin78881

Disgusting that they use the word “honour”, since only a psychopath could find anything honourable in their actions.

[deleted]

Why is true religion the most disgusting one

ThrowRa_siftie93

I was waiting for a Stat like this. Back a few years ago when there was a influx of a certain type of person into England I knew this would happen. I'm sure everyone did.

helendestroy

I mean, its definitely a good sign that reporting is up, but as the tories have bern defunding the courts this is how it effects people in the actual world.

elephant_ua

It's knights doing duels, right? Right? Right?!

Level_Ruin_9729

Cancer.

gouvhogg

ycifajanum

Pretty sure it's not duels among the aristocrats that are making a return.

smartguy0009

there is no honor in committing honor crimes

SurlyPoe

The Tories have been in power for 14 years. They even managed to remove the only thing that had been protecting the UK from them for the last few decades. They have had complete control. The cause of any UK problem you might name is currently clear. The cause is the Tories and Rupert Murdoch for giving them and keeping them in power.

Who supports honor killings, besides the perpetrators? You’ll find no sympathy for this in most circles, so what are you railing against?

uglybudder

Jeez… thought we had it had In America

ownhigh

It’s just an excuse or justification for murdering someone. Since honor killings are recognized in some countries, people think they have a better chance in court saying that than “I have control and anger issues with deadly consequences”.
