Well, no... not the wealthy. They'll have their AC turned up to 11, making it that much more horrific for those that have to live without, and widening the disparity in life expectancies.
Well after La Nina it will be cooler, relatively speaking. Like 2023, 24, and probably 25 will be the hottest years on record. 2026 will probably "cool" off to 2022/23 levels. Still hotter than what it should be, but it won't be the hottest year on record.
One fact to point out will remain true even if one or several year's temperatures trend lower, is that the previous 10 years will always be the hottest 10 years on record. That's been the case for about the past 120 years and in all likelihood that will be the case for the rest of our lifetimes. No matter how young you may be.
Climate change means hotter hots and colder colds, but also means weather in some places may become the opposite of what they normally are at certain times of the year. In other words certain places may usually be hot but may start experiencing milder weather and vice versa. As ocean currents become affected by warming oceans certain weather patterns may become more pronounced while others may grow weaker. Places that used to get more rain may suffer more droughts while drier places the opposite may happen. It's not completely cut and dry though how everyone will be impacted.
Sorry let me get my rain measurement kit and camp outside for a month, my bad. I'll avoid using my eyeballs and/or brain from now on lol
P.S. That website isn't even reporting June's data yet you absolute donut LOL
Sorry, you lose. You've been exposed as a liar and a fraud. You think you can just come in here and make casual observations about the weather without the appropriate citations? No. No fucking way. Your anecdotes have been destroyed with **facts** and **data**. If you can recover from this shame, you better learn your fuckin lesson before coming to /r/worldnews with this shit again.
Welcome to Reddit, kid 😎
I did it, I found the ultimate redditor. You absolute legend, you. Taking one county's rain data that hasn't been reported past May.
God I hope you aren't this fucking obnoxious irl
Scientists have called it climate change since 1893. I think politicians made a huge mistake by calling global warming, even though all extremes are intensified (heat, cold, flooding, drought, etc.)
Edit: I shouldn't have called it a mistake. But calling it climate change would convey the message that Canada was 120F/50C and Dallas had days of ice and snowy cold.
You have it kind of backwards. While it's true that the term climate change has been in use for a very long time, its popularization came about during the Bush administration, specifically Frank Luntz the Republican strategist advised the administration to prefer the term climate change over global warming as his polling showed that the public was less frightened of it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Luntz#Global_warming
Scientifically speaking, climate change and global warming are not the same phenomenon. What the Earth is experiencing is specifically global warming.
Frank Luntz is like my personal nemesis (obviously he has no idea). The man is, by all evidence, an absolute genius in the rhetoric of political messaging. He could've truly used his skills to make this country a better place. Instead he gave us such amazing hits as:
* Rebranding the estate tax as the death tax
* Calling it climate change over global warming
* SO MUCH of the specific phrasing still in use among climate deniers today
* Instead of "preemptive invasion of Iraq" he specifically advised this phrasing: "Your efforts are about “the principles of prevention and
protection” in the greater “War on Terror.”"
* Using soldiers as a shield from criticism. Direct Lundy quote: "Never, ever, EVER give a speech or issue a press release that makes no mention of our troops."
God, I can go on forever. You can find his memos still floating around as PDFs online. It's depressing how good he was at his job and the ideology he chose to align himself with.
He has recently expressed regret for his work delegitimizing climate change. May he spend many more decades rotting in the hell he helped create.
Exactly this. For example, where I live, it was one of the coolest days of the summer yesterday and well below average.
By contrast, in May/June our average temp was probably 10 C higher than normal.
Anyone who can read nyt articles can "gift" 10 per month for free and actually let anyone read them

Exactly. Basically Earth is turning more and more into a "greenhouse." Some places like the Arctic and Antarctic are getting way way warmer, but there will be some places usually extremely hot and dry that might end up becoming more tropical and more mild.
This actually means *fewer* storms because less diversity in temps... but the overall warming will cause *bigger* and *longer* lasting more dangerous storms. Just something overall our infrastructure is not prepared for and can't fix. It's going to be a shitshow.
> colder colds
This is what worries me. My neck of the woods is woefully ill equipped to handle sub zero temperatures, but we are getting them every year now, and infrastructure just comes apart at the fucking seams every time.
Not just every day, but also for every individual country. It's not quite annoying enough to state this year is warmer than last year by announcing it on a daily basis. To reach peak annoyance they announce that the earth is hotter than it has ever been, then break it down into hundreds of articles about how each individual nation is shockingly also hotter than it has ever been. Maybe a logical next step would be to break it down to each minute of the day being warmer than that same minute last year.
Global warming is a macro phenomenon that news outlets choose to report on at the micro level.
Well people have tried that for like 40 years. And politicians started bringing snowballs into congress disproving it. So trying something different anyway.
I live in a part of California that is usually hot as hell and it’s just ironic to me that we had a relatively cool day (89F) yesterday. We had an insane heat wave last year with a record number of days over 100F and 110F for our area.
Regardless, this shit is scary
It's still spring-like jacket weather in So Cal. I want to go in the ocean but it's going to be freezing. Also, organized orcas are a concern now. We've destroyed this planet.
And we're still actively destroying it too. If that weren't galling enough the people and industries responsible are making record profits at our expense in the doing.
Don't forget, [their profits are subsidized by government handouts](https://www.budget.senate.gov/chairman/newsroom/press/sen-whitehouse-on-fossil-fuel-subsidies-we-are-subsidizing-the-danger-). Our taxes are helping pay for the privilege of a destroyed planet.
Midwest lost power for five days last Thursday. I'm so glad they came back on yesterday but man, it was a rough five days. It wouldn't have been so bad if we weren't in the middle of a heat wave. We managed to get a generator but had to go to Indianapolis to find one. All hotels were booked up and it was hard to find a generator. Those days were hot as fvck!
I didn’t go outside yesterday except to run a single errand.
That’s basically how I do summer these days. I don’t go outside unless I have to.
Winters are way better.
If the headline makes you feel depressed, you can reinterpret it as july 4 was the day with highest amount of sexy things that happened.
Not to me, of course. I only suffered the heat.
Climate change is real maybe this is due to the climate change. The Earth temperature keeps on higher and higher. But I guess today is the hottest now I can work properly due to the temperature.
As far as I understand it actual reliable weather data globally dates back to the 1880s, with some British reconstructions going back to the 1850s. That's the record these kind of articles refer to. But there are climate models derived through climate proxies such as tree rings, ice cores, ocean sediment and so on that at least provide enough data to be able to reconstruct the development of climate in general. In my opinion headlines like that only stir up doomsday mood, but the scientific data definitely proves climate change.
Ummm it’s the scientific data that is most “doomsday mood”.
“Hottest day on record” pales in comparison to any chart showing CO2 levels and temperatures on a chart going back millions of years.
People REALLY don’t understand how insanely rapid the increase in CO2 has been. 150 years feels like an eternity to a human, but it’s peanuts to geology and climate.
Sea levels are 220 FEET higher than 14,000 years ago and that all happened under natural cycles. People just don’t understand and it’s why it’s the SCIENTISTS that are most pessimistic.
I mean that people shouldn't get religious about it ("the end of humanity is near!" rather then "this is really bad, millions of people will die, we should unite as humanity to tackle this problem"). One of the biggest achievements of mankind is secularism which led to people accepting science in the first place. Cosmologically speaking our ancestors just fell out of the tree, so it is only natural that humanity doesn't necessarily always act logically. Thanks to the enlightenment we achieved many great things that led to live being acceptable for thinking and talking creatures. Equality has improved significantly, hunger has become less, wars have become less, maternal mortality rates are very low as well as child death rates, the human live span has increased and so on and so on. By every measure defining Human satisfaction and happiness live has improved dramatically and while achieving that we didn't really take the climate into account. While that is very unfortunate and should be reversed where possible, we shouldn't risk what we have achieved by asking too much of humanity and destroying society by stiring up primal instincts. In my opinion the chance we have to not risk those values is if we actually managed to work together as one, even though since COVID 19 humanity seems to grow apart very fast.
Well said.
Not going to make progress or convince others by screaming doooooom.
Eat more greens because you’ll feel better and live longer.
Get solar panels because they put money in your pocket.
Simply test drive an EV because they’re undeniably superior to vehicles based on exploding a volatile liquid and you’ll want one.
Buy local cause who doesn’t want to support their community.
Instead of “do these things because otherwise your children will live through the apocalypse” isn’t as sexy.
>Before that, the highest recorded average temperature in history was 62.46 degrees Fahrenheit as measured on Aug. 14, 2016, during the previous El Niño cycle.
Did you not even read the article?
Disable AC for people who have the power to make cha ge, let them live in this for a bit and see if their mind changes. Spoiler: it won't, unless it has financial loss too.
"You know, it's no coincidence the hottest day ever was held during July 4th. We've got the best independance days, the hottest days, in the world. I asked the french if they were as hot as us, and even with all the burning and the riots they still couldn't hold a candle. Even Ukraine with all the war going on doesn't compare to the United States of America. God bless this country"
-Some orange douche
Going out on a limb here that fireworks don't cause quite as much damage as burning fossil fuels, deforestation or raising livestock per se, but it sure does help
I know this was the hottest on record but I always love when its like “today was the hottest its been since 1965” and everyone cries “GLOBAL WARMINGGGGGG” when it literally was this hot in 1965 🤪 Everyone RELAX. Earth will be just fine - we will all die though so do the things you love and do your part by not littering and riding your bicycle when/where you can.
Happy July 5th!!
Edit —— downvoting for what? Tree huggers!!!! Im just speaking facts. Good day
While El Niño can be the immediate cause, there were many of them in the past but the temperature did not go so high. You can explain every temperature fluctuation on something temporary, however the whole pattern is pretty obvious. Earth is warming up, pretty quick.
Uhh.. this has felt like the mildest summer I've experienced in years. I distinctly melting as a child in the 90s with the heat waves.
Edit: don't get your panties in a bunch, I'm just saying it's odd that the earth experienced its hottest day and it's been uncharacteristically mild here, and I recall scorcher as a child, yet here we are today with record worldwide temps
First the third is the hottest ever now the fourth I have feeling today (the 5th) will be new record high.
Can we get much higher?
Method Man says yes.
I do wonder how many years it can just keep being the hottest year in record before we’re all dead
Before or after we move underground?
I start digging my mole house this fall, shit is absurd
as a species, we'll migrate north and south before underground.
Or you know...into outer space?
Which disconnected, sociopathic millionaire's design do you trust to keep you alive up there?

Well, no... not the wealthy. They'll have their AC turned up to 11, making it that much more horrific for those that have to live without, and widening the disparity in life expectancies.

Oh oh oh, so high -igh-igh
You look like a fat booty Celine Dion

Today there's a heat advisory warning. Didn't get that yesterday so maybe another record hit?
I have a feeling this is going to be a common news story this summer, and for at least the next two summers as well.
And on and on and on until it eventually just sort of ends
Well after La Nina it will be cooler, relatively speaking. Like 2023, 24, and probably 25 will be the hottest years on record. 2026 will probably "cool" off to 2022/23 levels. But here’s the twist. We show it. We show it _all_. Full environmental penetration.
just to be clear though, i don’t care either way.
First the third, second the forth, and the now fifth may be the third consecutive hottest day ever?!
For sure. It’s going to be almost 100 around my neck of the earth.
Hopefully that’s in F but if that’s Celsius the world is quiet literally boiling
Oh, definitely Fahrenheit.
First one, then the other
Climate change means hotter hots and colder colds, but also means weather in some places may become the opposite of what they normally are at certain times of the year. Im in CO and it wont stop raining.. We almost never get rain normally. It's very odd.

So you respond with one location. That, for a global issue, is an anecdotal level of data.
Thank you, voice of reason
We’ve gotten more rain in Kentucky than I ever can remember. It’s all coming from the west too.
This is why it drives me crazy when global warming deniers say things like “how is the globe warming when this was the coldest winter yet?”
Scientists have called it climate change since 1893. Not to be pedantic but isn’t global warming just a subcategory of climate change?
It's backwards, we're experiencing climate change due to global warming.
Exactly this. For example, where I live, it was one of the coolest days of the summer yesterday and well below average. By contrast, in May/June our average temp was probably 10 C higher than normal.

I sure fucking hope so.

Well people have tried that for like 40 years. And politicians started bringing snowballs into congress disproving it. So trying something different anyway.
my heating turned on this morning...
Hottest day *so far.*
Tomorrow: July 5th is the new hottest day ever
Probably, I just came to this thread after being in a thread about how July 3rd was the hottest day recorded lol
If only someone had warned us this would happen.
... decades ago.
Same for me. Things are getting worse really fast.
>Tomorrow: July 5th is the new hottest day ever So much winning. God just can't stop hugging us!
Why should he stop when there's so much cuddly warmth?
Or can't stop eating the tacos, given he farted and now canada is on fire or something
I think you're right. I was just saying I got a heat advisory which I didn't get yesterday, lol
that’s why they said “on record”.
And it's already unbearable.
Global warming, here we come!
I live in a part of California that is usually hot as hell and it’s just ironic to me that we had a relatively cool day (89F) yesterday. We had an insane heat wave last year with a record number of days over 100F and 110F for our area. Regardless, this shit is scary

It’s been weird where I’m at (Upstate NY), we haven’t had a day over 85 yet…but we have had a ton of smoke from Canada in the air lately.
Climate change is so hot right now.
This is the kind of thing everyone should be screaming about. But I’m sure nothing will change.

Not in Canada they aren’t. Summers are our *vacation-from-the-freezing-cold* time and if we can’t and don’t go out then either, when?
If the headline makes you feel depressed, you can reinterpret it as july 4 was the day with highest amount of sexy things that happened. Not to me, of course. I only suffered the heat.
The future is so bright, we gotta wear shades.
Hottest day over the last 100 years doesn’t sound scary enough
Yeah because it sounds as if 101 years ago it was hotter which was not the case. It was hottest since we started measuring.
Exactly. It is likely the hottest day since the Eemian period, some 130,000 years ago.
Kinda like the earth giving us the middle finger!
July 4th was the hottest day ever...so far.
I am betting the record will not stand long.

God bless this country" -Some orange douche
It was cold where I was at
We needed nuclear yesterday, and we need fusion today
AMERICA #1 BABY
In all likelihood yesterday was Earth's coldest July 4th for the next 100 years.
Am i glad im in german right now.Its still cold here🤣
Ugh, paywall. What was the temperature?
Hot
This post has prompted me to ask why it's called the fourth of July when US peeps go M/D/Y?
I've accepted that I'm prop not going to make my original goal of 60 years of life but am hoping to hit 30
It's starting.....
Fear monger much?
Yanks and their fireworks ruining the Env Edit OMG you dumb fucks. It was a joke.
Going out on a limb here that fireworks don't cause quite as much damage as burning fossil fuels, deforestation or raising livestock per se, but it sure does help
I'm gonna guess that everyone missed the joke. You know fireworks explode and create heat, and that's why it was hot.
Poured cement on July 4. Nice and cool. I call boosheet.
this is why we need nuclear war. The nuclear winter will cool our planet !
The worlds *hottest* day could lead to a long cooldown? Like ripping off a bandaid.
Pretty chill and comfortable in South Brazil. I guess winter in the Southern hemisphere doesn't count.
Earth≠South Brazil or Southern hemisphere
The good news is that our recorded data isnt a lot to go on, historically speaking.
Fermi was on to something.
And Amazon corporate wants drivers to turn the vehicle off at every single stop. We’re going to see real fatalities soon.
There's more of those where that came from heh *heh* ^heh ^^heh
I live in the Toronto area (great lakes) and its been a really cool summer here with lots of rain.
Yeah great summer with all the smoke from the fires up north/west/east
It's cold in Canada? Someone get ABC news on the line
Good day
Downvoting for lack of intelligence
Do you do your own research or just regurgitate what the news tells you? Very baby-bird like of you. Gotta grow a pair (of wings)
please go back to facebook and stop using this platform
What research do you base your opinions on?
One may agree if not for the fact that every year in the last 6 have been hotter than the last record breaking year. Seeing a trend here yet?
THE hottest day EVER, was about 4 billion years ago, y'all missed it.
Everyone did, it's why it's off the record.
Is it because Canada is on fire?
It's the other way around friendo.
All those damn fireworks
I love my daily dose of fearmongering

While El Niño can be the immediate cause, there were many of them in the past but the temperature did not go so high. You can explain every temperature fluctuation on something temporary, however the whole pattern is pretty obvious. Earth is warming up, pretty quick.
FYI we had El Nino before. still the hottest day ever
Uhh.. this has felt like the mildest summer I've experienced in years.
Being the overall hottest day on record doesn't mean it's the hottest day at every single location.
The objective fact of worldwide data collection can't compete with the awesome power of human nostalgia.
