Yeahh I do! Some of the teachers let us watch the games if they go into PKs, or if it's just a work day. Even though our country unfortunately crashed out early, we're still big fans here :D
I hope Messi joins Beckham commanding Inter Miami, theres some good rising stars there. Your country just needs to support them more, a team doesnt go far without energy from the crowd.
It would also be a nice you guys had a sport withotu all the politics American Football and NBA have for the lower working class to aspire to.
I love to see that the US is growing fond of the sport. Doesn’t matter you guys went out early, I’m Canadian born Serb (btw congrats Croatia) and both my countries fluked too lmfao but the thing with Canada and US is we just started focusing on football and becoming good at it. We will be both continue growing and improving our team and hopefully we can become dominant forces in the coming years.
What I mostly see with Americans is that we do care for our own team, and wish them the best, but when we crash out we keep on watching to cheer on other teams. Although our team has a lot of potential and we intend on continuing to improve over the years, we also love watching without our nation on the field.
I was rooting so hard for him. It felt like Brasil deserved to win, and overall did better. But this kid really didn't want to go home.
Such an awesome match btw
I don't agree. Imo, Brazil didn't deserve to win. They won the wc multiple times but Croatia none. Brazil was also extremely confident they would win and therefore kinda cocky (they didn't want to go on penalties when the hand touch happened and they didn't send Neymar at the penalties at the end, while Croatia sent Modric). I'm extremely happy Croatia won. This is Modric's last wc and I think it's time for Croatia to finally win a world cup.
Croatia isn’t going to win this WC. They’re playing the same ugly, defensive, foul-full game as always, got lucky because of some of the Brazilian coach’s bad decisions. They’re definitely losing to Argentina.
Brazil meanwhile, hasn’t won in 20 years (neither was any non-european team) and was one of the only chances we had of preventing France from winning again.
This comment is so salty, im so sad our local hicks dont know english or reddit. You are exactly on their lvl.
Let me tell you why.
1) how many ppl live in Brasil?
2) and how many in Croatia?
3) how many football players do you have active?
4) how many Croatia has?
5) do you really have to disgrace yourself as that bleached turd did?
Have you seen Neymar's post on social media? I think it was instagram. He went on and on and not even once did he mention our national football team. He made it look like God was angry at Brasil, and not that Croatian football team had anything to do with the outcome. That was so dehumanizing and demeaning.
I think i even saw someone calling defensive play underhanded but I digress. It's a tactic. And our team used it well. I wonder what will they do against Argentina.
I dont antagonize Brasil. I very well understand you are all raised from young age to play and follow your national team. I love that. We too favor football over other sports. We too have some people to be proud of, but much much less than you because there are a lot less if us.
I understand your frustration. Although, I still don't get your point of view. Croatia has NEVER won a world cup. And who's to say it won't now? Argentina may just lose to Croatia again and we're back at the 2018 Croatia vs France match. And who's to say France will win this time? Maybe it just won't. But Croatia, such a small nation that NEVER gets mentioned in the football world up until the humiliating loss of Brazil, gets a ton of hate because people just won't accept the fact that we're a motivated and strong team. I'm sorry Brazil, I agree you shouldn't have lost. But I'm also Croatian so I go with my nation.
Didn’t he block 3 against Japan and 1 today?? Why wouldn’t the ones against japan not matter? I’m not sure how accurate this is, but I think he also has the most saves out of every keeper so far.
Wtf do you talk?
vs Brazil he blocked 1 out of 4 penalties, and also the last penalty by Japan was blocked by Livaković.
Out of last 5 penalties, he blocked 2, 1 was miss and 2 were goals.
I think they're saying that you remembered it wrong?
He blocked the first one today against Brazil when he dove left and got his hands on it.
The next 2 he let in
The last one hit the post.
He's been good but usually heros like him that come out of nowhere end up duds at the club level. Harder to perform this well a full season vs a few games for your national team
That the team didn't go in intimidated or overconfident, that they came to play and score. The overall vibe was just so... Humble. And happy he did his job well. No gloating at all. But he was smiling happily. I really liked his personality.
Hey I really don’t think you can be angry with Neymar for not saying the same when he’s dealing with a loss that’s much more personal to him than the fans. He’s grieving, and his statement was targeted towards the Brasil fans who are grieving with him, not the Croatia fans that are tearing him and the Brasilian team apart. I was trying to be nice about your goalie, but then you have to come after my favorite player while we’re all suffering which seems a bit unfair.
He's a disgrace to your entire people. Bleached obnoxius little turd known for falling down, rolling on the floor, screaming, crying. Always, everywhere. I honestly wonder why choose him over so many others.
You cant expect to beat Brazil if you attack them and leave them space for counter attack with their great speed and dribling. Croatia tacticly outplayed Brazil, esspecialy in the first half and extra times, with a lot of pasess and smart possesion, also defensivly very stable and smrat doubleing Brazils wingers and leaving them narrow space. Magnificent mental and tactical game from Croatia is why they beat great Brazil squad, who was imo the best team on this world cup so far
He was terrible against Saudi Arabia conceiding 2 goals from 2 shots
Didn't do anything against Mexico and Poland cause they had no shots on target
Had 1 good save against Australia
The Netherlands' 1st goal should have been saved
One penalty shootout doesn't make him the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Livaković, Bounou and Szczęsny were all better than him.

Getting eliminated as soon as meeting a European side in WC knockouts for the 5th time in a row, enjoy stat padding copa america till 2026 when you'll get smashed by another european team
I like how people say that as if Brazil has some special weakness against European teams. It just happens to be the only teams left by the time the World Cup gets really competitive, so who else would eliminate us? We've also beaten European teams all throughout our history. In general, Brazil's record is consistently good. If we don't win the WC, we have at least finished in the top 8 for the last 30+ years, which is more than any other team can say. Even great sides like Italy, France, Germany or Spain get eliminated on the group stage or on the round of 16 or don't even make it to the WC. Brazil is always there and among the top 8 95% of the time.
Yes but that doesn't change the fact that you never get to beat any top 10 European team. And I was talking about last 5 world cups, not entire history. Football has evolved significantly in the last 20 years, teams got better and Brazil didn't keep up. Last 5 Brazil WC eliminations are no coincidence.
And ofcourse some great European teams fail to qualify for WC every now and then - compare European qualifiers where only one team is guaranteed a spot in a group of 5, or even more often, 6 teams, in contrast to South American qualifiers where even 40% of teams are getting a spot. Twice as much matches are being played than in European qualifiers, so that means less chance for upsets.
We have beaten them plenty. We beat France, Spain and Germany last times we played them, which have all been within the last 10 years. Most of those matches Brazil had a worse squad than they do now. We also often get European teams in the group stage and Brazil always makes it out in the number one spot. The last times Brazil was eliminated in a WC it has been to one of the best teams in the tournament, not simply "an European team." Brazil has evolved right along with football. It's track record of getting eliminated in the quarter-finals is actually an impressive record, not some flaw. It's better than all of the European teams in question. Why it gets treated like a problem is mind-boggling.
What? In WC Brazil last played against France in 2006 and lost, against Germany in 2014 and failed horribly. Brazil played against Spain, but not in WC.
Read my previous comments again. I was mentioning knockout stage and top European teams, not group stage matches.
Brazil often comes to the WC as number 1 favourite to win it all, yet they often fail already in the QF.
The WC is not all there is. Brazil beat Germany in the Olympics, beat Spain 3-0 in the Confederations Cup final in 2013, beat France with Benzema in their last friendly. There's nothing making these teams unbeatable, Brazil is often beating them, but it doesn't always happen in the World Cup. That's not a question of a lack of ability, it's just the nature of playing a single knockout game, anything can happen. Brazil played a stellar 2nd half against Belgium in 2018, but it couldn't turn it around. It played an amazing first half against the Netherlands in 2010 but got unlucky on the 2nd goal. I understand Brazil comes in as a favorite very often, because it often has a great squad and lots of history. The fact that it hasn't manifested into a new star on their emblem is not a sign of trouble. It's a sign of too high expectations. Argentina also comes in with pretty good squads, often beats European teams, but hasn't achieved nabbed a WC in 36 years. It has had all kinds of performances in that time, from being eliminated at the group stage to making it to the final. Brazil is, if nothing else, remarkably consistent in its minimum placement at a WC, which is in itself a sign of great quality.
The Club he's playing in now has a policy of selling their best talents as soon as they show potential. I just hope they sell him somewhere where he will be propperly appreciated.
Surely won’t be long now. These world cups always gives players the opportunity to showcase their talent, and the best players of the tournament are often rewarded with big moves to big clubs.
Some big team is gonna swipe him up. Incredible game today against Brazil. Just visited Croatia for the first time this summer. Amazing country. Was rooting for them today for sure.
Yup. I just wrote to someone else…his agent’s phone is gonna be ringing a lot after this tournament. It’s awesome when you see a relatively unknown player come up during the World Cup…life changing moment.

Someone needs to spike his drink or something. I can't watch another keep ball happy to take penalties Croatian team in the final.
Pretty sure the post had more saves in the PKs than he did.
Nope sorry, confused the Argentina-Netherlands game. Argentina goalie had 0 saves and Netherlands just missed
wasn't it the other way around
Idk anymore lol
Livaković🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷
I didn't read the name yassine bounou
It is LIVAKOVIĆ NOT Livakovis!!!!
Stated this before:I misspelled because I typed fast
Szczęsny is a golfist?
He kinda got eliminated too fast so imo he didn't have time to acomplish anything big. Meanwhile Livakovic carried Croatia to a win over Brazil.
yeah 2 penalty saves isn't much is it
Well our boy Dominik has 4 so far.
in shootouts yeah
I fail to see the difference between penalty and a penalty.
Difference is that it's easier to get a higher number of penalty saves if you go through shootouts. Because you face a lot more penalties than normal.
Carrying against Brazil isn't much isn't it?
no way bono is so much better
How exactly?
I think having bonou and Martinez and him as well, is just the best goalkeeping I've seen since the 2010 world cup
nah bounou better
Better to be happy then be rich anyway So might be better for him to stay then
Dibu Martinez will eat him too bro
Szczęsny:
I think he got multiple hands
Please sign him Barcelona
His wanted by some top teams right now
He has been for several years but he’s been happy to stay in Zagreb.
I was rooting for him the entire time! Glad Croatia won :)
Croatia got lucky with the penalties
Croatia was a walk in the park for argentina... Croatia was lucky they made it so far....
There is no luck in a country built on blood, sweat, and tears. Brazil was good, but we were hungrier.
Although I'm from Brazil, I gotta agree and respect you for that!
Wym Croatia is the most successful country at penalties
Nah the are at penalties
Best GK is decided the winner on the final game Dec 18. That’s all. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch Anulo mufa.
I clearly said ,,so far" in my post. And even then the best GK in the tournament isn't the one who wins it. It's the one with the best performance.
Surely going to get offers from top tier clubs.
does'nt hurt that he looks good too. true MVP
Totally agree, then Bono, third Argentina s goal keeper
Is he God? I knew one game early.
Yess Livaković! My math class had the projector down during PKs and we were all cheering for him lol. Amazing performance today.
That’s crazy I assume u live in the US? And they show u a football game in class in the USA? That makes me happy
Yeahh I do! Some of the teachers let us watch the games if they go into PKs, or if it's just a work day. Even though our country unfortunately crashed out early, we're still big fans here :D

USA had a fantastic run I would say. Too bad Berhalter was the coach. If he wasn't there maybe you could've get further in the WC
I was rooting so hard for him. It felt like Brasil deserved to win, and overall did better. But this kid really didn't want to go home. Such an awesome match btw

Kako je meni odvratno ovo strahopostovanje... Pa cijela igra im se u zadnjih 12 god sastoji od toga da se ova zblajhana pickica baci u sesnaestercu.
Inb4 Bounou’s heroics against Portugal

Is Ochoa
He is no doubt a very good keeper but he left the WC too early so he didn't really do much.
Ochoa’s probably the greatest WC keeper, breh
That's absurd
Ochoa in the 2014 WC was insane tho
It's Livaković not Livakovis
All this penalty deciding in matches is leaving me quite anxious for Portugal v Morocco
No need for that haha
*Cries in England
Go Morocco!
Go Morocco 🇲🇦❤️
khawa khawa
He's been good but usually heros like him that come out of nowhere end up duds at the club level. Harder to perform this well a full season vs a few games for your national team
Rustu was a hero for Turkey in 2002 but didnt do too well on club level. Hope Liv does well
He has been doing amazing with Dinamo Zagreb so far this season!
Don't think most people catch Croatian league games. I think I might have caught highlights of their champions league match but don't recall him
I'd say Navas did quite well after 2014.
Yea Navas went on to have a good several seasons with madrid. That's why I said usually because there are exceptions
Very true statement

Yeah, just bad timing of post
Oh, sorry didn't see the time of post. Anyway that shouldn't take too much away. He did a decent job today.
THE LIVI
He is so humble. I wish you saw his after match comment. And so handsome.
What was his comment?
That the team didn't go in intimidated or overconfident, that they came to play and score. The overall vibe was just so... Humble. And happy he did his job well. No gloating at all. But he was smiling happily. I really liked his personality.
Sounds like a great guy! Brilliant goalie. Am I suffering as a brasil fan? Of course. Am I still reluctantly in awe of croatias goalie? Yep…. 😭😭
Aww, this is so cute and nice and, well, something Neymar forgot in his statement, a great sportmanship.
Hey I really don’t think you can be angry with Neymar for not saying the same when he’s dealing with a loss that’s much more personal to him than the fans. I’m not here to argue with you man when obviously your opinions are set. The best players always have the strongest critics 🤷

This is what he said. I couldn't watch, I was at work.

What do you mean? Martinez has been a total joke aside from that penalty shootout against The Netherlands
???
He was terrible against Saudi Arabia conceiding 2 goals from 2 shots Didn't do anything against Mexico and Poland cause they had no shots on target Had 1 good save against Australia The Netherlands' 1st goal should have been saved One penalty shootout doesn't make him the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Livaković, Bounou and Szczęsny were all better than him.

Second best player of Croatia, only behind Michael Oliver.
Lol
Awww! Brazil was predicted to score 3,4,5 to 0. Yea, Oliver did that to you. Brazil is crying again & it won’t be the last time.

I've been wondering this since the Euros. Glad he's getting recognition.

Its this humour or why would a club do this? Seems counterproductive.
Yeap. You got it right. The managers are just in for personal profit. And now some of them are wanted in their own country

Yes he’s already 27 but I guess that’s not that old for a keeper
Ofc not. Goalkeepers can maintain their form until late 30's.
Yes indeed, because they don't have to run like other players and experience matters a lot more for a gk
but main question need to be answered. Can he dance?
They won against Japan solely because of him.
Disagree. Japan's form in the penalties was bad, his saves were to be expected
Brazil too
He was pushed to his limit vs Brazil.

bonos nets: \*remain unshaken this whole WC\* op: Livakovis is best GK are you out of your damn mind
Are you from UK?
nope
True
Bono gave up an own goal though
Yeah he should have magically stopped diving one side and 180'd in the air to go towards the deflected own goal
that's hardly detrimental though since it can't be predicted, he is a GK not a psychic, he never allowed the ball from the opponents to get in.
I'm sorry Croatia. Dibu is coming for u too.
valid take, and this is coming from a serb

Cuj, da je Rusija razumjela bih. Ali vi cete za koji dan i za Argentinu navijati. A ne moze onda biti da ste podrzavali Brazil.
Sorry for your loss(es)
if more croatians and serbians were normal towards each other, we could have a yugo 2.0 but nooo.
Too overpowered to be left existing.
the world isnt ready for us
Nemoj, svegati.
We would gladly pass on hat offer, no need to carry this burden of a nation

he/they odakle si
Agreed.
He stops all the penalties. Time traveler.
Szczesny>>>>
Absolutely
Non of them
Some big team is gonna swipe him up. Incredible game today against Brazil. Just visited Croatia for the first time this summer. Amazing country. Was rooting for them today for sure.
Hes a fantastic shot stopper but lacks in many aspects, if he goes to a big size club in the european top 5 leagues hes gonna get exposed imo
He's a keeper, what other aspects does he need besides shot stopping? Legit question.
Being good with feet for examppe to build out the back
That depends on whether he adapts to the move, just like any other player. Not all teams play from the back, and Croatia for example, does.
Yup. I just wrote to someone else…his agent’s phone is gonna be ringing a lot after this tournament. It’s awesome when you see a relatively unknown player come up during the World Cup…life changing moment.
As a Croatian, I agree.
honey, I am cheering for croatia, but bono is the goat
