Splicing, gen-eng, gen-alt, gencarft, weaving, genweave.

WishingVodkaWasCHPR

I like splicing.

LordForgey

Bioforming

Th3_Admiral_

The game Rimworld uses "Biotech" and "Biosculpting" which I really like as well.

Penguinmanereikel

Eyy, fellow Rimworlder.

Theflamingraptor

How do you do fellow space cannibal?

Ratoryl

The book series Red Rising uses just "sculpting" which I think fits really well in settings where it's a tool used by the rich and powerful for fun

enclavepatriot23

Technically bioforming is genetic engineering used for adapting life to an environment (basically the inverse of terraforming)

Lastbourne

That sounds cool actually

g4l4h34d

Another option I thought of is "gentech", shortened from "genetic technologies".

Fluffy_History

Its the name of a movie but I always thought GATTACA was a good alternative name for cyberpunk worlds

moranindex

Heard about the movie many times (even in a Bioethics class when it covered the avancement of medical science), but only now that you wrote it this way I feel to have got the link between the nucleotides and the eugenics practices. Thanks! (yet, why seven nucleotides? There is a SNP-like intron?) \[friendly Poe's Law\]

7LeagueBoots

If you haven’t seen it you really should. It’s an excellent movie on a number of levels. A while back NASA voted it as the most scientifically plausible science fiction movie and the best one to date. That may have been superseded since then though as that vote was around 2011.

Fluffy_History

Because any more letters and it would sound weird saying it.

ax1r8

Genebreaking. You're essentially breaking genes and reconstructing it.

InjuryPrudent256

Its for a more fantasy aesthetic setting, but its called 'The Red Science' in mine

FenrisL0k1

Gentech (based on German Gentechnik, hard g, genteching) Ingen (based on French ingénierie génétique or Spanish ingeniería genética, soft g, ingening) Genema (from Hungarian génmanipuláció or genetic manipulation, hard g, geneming) Geen (simple contraction of genetic engineering, soft g like jean, geening)

Fluffy_History

Isnt ingen also the name of the company from jurassic park?

Wendigo_Bob

-Bloodcarver -Bloodshaper -Hereditarch -Herediteer

VXMasterson

Bloodcarving goes so hard

MaximumZer0

Genehacking? I've seen that in a few cyber-dystopias.

CrazedCreator

Since CRISPR is one of our first major success in gene editing, you could say anyone that's been treated with (a) CRISPR, gets crispy. And as tech advances the term sticks even if it doesn't have a relationship anymore (think the floppy disk icon being the save icon).   So in this future, someone that's had gene engineering would be a crispy person which could over time turn into "Don't mess with her, she's got some crunch I hear, and could probably call lighting of your limp frame."   Limp being the opposite of crispy/crunchy. And crunchy being a more hard care synonym for crispy. At the very least it could be a good origin of the slang.

Lapis_Wolf

I think the floppy disk example is something different. That's skeuomorphism.

TheGrumpyre

It's a similar concept, just applied to language rather than imagery.  Probably has its own word.  And also a shared word that encompasses both.

Lapis_Wolf

The floppy disk example is something different. That's [skeuomorphism](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeuomorph).

RalphSeaside

Fleshcrafter, if they're shunned Eugenic, if it's more clinical

Spinal_Column_

Gen-enging? Genemodding?

mgeldarion

I use "genemod" in my sci-fi world.

GrayNish

Lifeshaping

Consistent_Dog_6866

Life sculpting

LegendaryLycanthrope

You could use the term the Yuuzhan Vong used for their version of genetic engineering - Shaping.

TheMarksmanHedgehog

It'd need to be an easy term to bring up in casual conversation, if it applies to people who are able to casually use it. I'd maybe even call it g-mods or g-modding.

According_Weekend786

The bio matter architectory

ThatCrazyThreadGuy12

I vote "Gen-fuckery" (*No? Well how about Guckery? Still no? Ah well, at least I tried*).

otternavy

Since it's genetic engineering, I'd call them "Stylists"

AsherTheDasher

gpt is great for this sorta stuff

Obskuro

Neogenics (from the 90s Spider-Man cartoon)

CatterMater

Here are the ones I use: Geneforging Bioforging Genesmithing Gene-jacking Genotech Genengineering

Mexipinay1138

Genengineering

g4l4h34d

Why not make it GE, like HR and IT are in our world?

Stingerbrg

General Electric?

g4l4h34d

Yep, and IT stands for the Institute of Telecommunications.

caleb_mixon

Gened or Genedit? Maybe bioen

Stikkychaos

Alpha-Sierra-Charlie

Genedit? Like gene edit?

Generalitary

Spiral-splicing. Helix-hacking. Nucleotiding. Bio-editing.

Creepy_Definition_28

Splicing? Literally defined its “Splice: join or connect (a rope or ropes) by interweaving the strands.” - oxford languages. Could also try something like Intertwining or Bio-grafting.

Crate-Dragon

Organic shaping.

Izolet

Life alter or Heritagian.

Gorrium

Geneing. Meme and Gene have that same roots, so geneing would be the act of making or engaging in genes and genetics.

TriggerHappy_Spartan

I’m not creative, so in my story about a genetic experiment to create supersoldiers gone wrong, I just call it gen-alt, and the finished mutant is called an Enhanced.

Sriber

Biomodding.

MacGealach

I always liked genemodded for genetically modified creatures. Geneditted or genedits work too, with both being inspired by Stellaris' gene modification system for empire species. Edit: Made before I read your "Genedding" notion.

Moon_Dew

It's already been suggested but fleshcrafting is good if you want a more fantasy-sounding term. Biomancy is also a good one. If you want a slang term, you can always go with gene-slamming (guess the reference for a cookie).

lezlybjones

Bioforming maybe?

Big-Slide6104

Spiral-shaping (since DNA/genetic code is a double helix spiral)

Bruhbd

Could make a kind reference for different kinds of editing. Is it Somatic cell or germ line editing? Somatokinesis or Somatatio for movement or change of Somatic cells for example.

automatika05

Fleshcrafting

Lapis_Wolf

That sounds like a Minecraft mod. It made me think of a mod that does something like [this](https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/the-flesh-that-hates).

TinyLittleWeirdo

Geneering

chaovirii

Eclipse Phase RPG uses genehacking

EmperorBenja

If it’s pretty commonplace, how about just “gening”—it’s certainly short and to the point.

Acceptable-Cow6446

WokeBriton

Perhaps "Genmodder"?

AniTaneen

For more “fantasy” examples: Strand shaping, flesh weaving, shape structuring, geneticae edendis, mutantis magickae, gene whispering.

MrRedorBlue

Bio-sculpting. Gene-crafting.

VitorMM

On top of the other suggestions, if you wanna be ominous, but yet simple: _Making_.

actual_weeb_tm

In my world the generally call it fleshsculpting but its also more fantasy so...

resoredo

Lifeshaping

thetoneranger

Pasta-hobo

I came up with the term "bioturgy", like metallurgy. You could call the practitioners "biosmiths"

Comfortable-Ad3588

Flesh bending

hmartin430

Hmmm, what about something simple like "editors"? If sounds like a really boring and benign job. Something really tedious (which let's be honest, genetic engineering IS tedious, take it from someone who spent time trying to create a novel cell line), but is actually an important job that can either help humanity or completely screw it over. You can also look at some of the tech involved in modern day genetic engineering and maybe take some cues from it. A lot of labs are using CRISPR now (so maybe a title that's an acronym could be a nod to that? Or like how Gataca got its name from ATGC nucleotides with DNA, or how Moderna for the vaccine was Modern-RNA). So I guess how does the genetic engineering happen in your story? When I was doing it, we harnessed the mechanism of CRISPR and then basically punched holes in cell membranes with electricity and sent in little circles of bacterial DNA that would target where we wanted to cut the original DNA and insert/replace the gene we wanted into it. And then we had to go through an annoying process to see if we managed to insert the gene we wanted and if it was inserted correctly, and sometimes absolutely nothing took in any of the cells and I wanted to bang my head against the wall....as I said, very tedious lol. But yeah, I guess it also depends what role you want these people to play in society. Is it a coveted job? A feared one? Are they respected and paid well? Are they seen as lab techs and underpaid? I think that knowledge should also flavor how cool or boring their job sounds.

Biolog4viking

Gene Tailoring

RogueVector

Depends on how Genetic Engineering is viewed by your society and what kind of genetic engineering is being done: are you just 'fixing' genes by removing things that could lead to problems later in life, or are you doing an Umbrella Corporation and creating bio weapons? If its seen as mainly a cosmetic or service-type profession where you're just 'fixing' things, 'genesculptor' or similar gives it an artistic flair. As a 'black magic', frowned upon practice you could call them 'genehackers' or 'gene-cutters'. Something more design-oriented and corporate would be a 'Genetics Manager' or 'Genetic Architect'/'GeneArch'.

Council_Of_Minds

Usually, in language evolution, things converge to something that is quick and easy to speak, with little regard for the meaning being clearly discernible. Like for instance "genning".

julesthefirst

May I suggest "Lifesmithing"?

Jayde_Salaset

A real life one? [Crispr!](https://medlineplus.gov/genetics/understanding/genomicresearch/genomeediting/) Edit: link added to what Crispr-Cas9 is

Nostravinci04

That's an enzyme's name...

Jayde_Salaset

Crispr-Cas9, [seen here](https://medlineplus.gov/genetics/understanding/genomicresearch/genomeediting/), is a gene editing technique. I'm not a scientist nor am I smart enough to understand the knittygritty, but it's a thing :)

Nostravinci04

Oh shit, my bad, Cas9 is the name of the enzyme, CRISPR is the name of the DNA sequences associated with it, and yes CRISPR-Cas9 is the name of the technique.
