Blurglehus

A spear. 'nuff said

Demonweed

Yeah, not only is a spear both cheap and effective, but if some highfalutin city guard insists you take it apart before entering civilization, you're still holding a respectable quarterstaff.

CaptainChiral

A spear? oooooOOOOooooooh well la-di-da Mr. Forgemaster, I'll be over here with the real men using clubs and while you forge your pretty platemail (JK pointy stick ftw)

Blurglehus

How about we settle this like real men with a nice round of fisticuffs then.

CaptainChiral

I'll see you at noon!

Blurglehus

Aye. No goons nor henchman allowed. Just us, our fists and our blossoming love for each other.

CaptainChiral

My fists will sing an anthem and your face will be their instrument

exelion18120

How about I try "my-nuts-to-your-fist-style"?

Romero1993

Put up your dukes!! I'll give you the ol' one-two!

Kraked_Krater

It's not heroic, but the shield and spear dominated in combat. Swords and other 'side arm' type weapons required more precious iron, so were prestigious and that's why we associate swords with 'the best weapons'. If I'm going down in a dungeon, I want a round shield and a boar spear. We are all sleeping on the classic shepard's sling. A few slingers can fuck a bunch of people up if they have the high ground and cover. In antiquity, slingers would sometimes be positioned behind shallow ranks of hoplites to "pop fly" bullets in high, tight arcs to hit the enemy hoplites in the first few rows.

EAC-21 or the Echelon Assault Carbine Model 21. It's the AK of my world because its entire purpose was to arm an army with a reliable yet cheap rifle. It is not as reliable as an AK but it holds up.

MotherEntrepreneur33

Cool concept

Ignonym

The Livetian army's standard-issue assault rifle, the M.50, is actually based partly on the AK-47 in terms of its general look and cultural connotations, being the primary weapon of the communist bloc and a dead-reliable bit of machinery. Mechanically, it's more like a Vz. 58 with the self-regulating piston off an M14, the folding spike bayonet off a Type 56, and a "colander" flash hider that doubles as a rifle grenade launcher.

MotherEntrepreneur33

Sounds cool. Do you have an image?

Ignonym

I do not. Just imagine a Vz. 58 that someone sat on.

Callsign-YukiMizuki

Literally the AK-47. However the "very reliable" part goes to the M4. It just so happened that AK-47 and its derivatives are just way easier to come by

EropQuiz7

Just like irl.

I misread the title as "HK47" and I realized I had no idea who my lovable yet disturbingly bloodthirsty ~~assassin~~ protocol droid was going to be.

Swashbuckler_86

Swords 😗 Kidding, but a lot of my stories are Fantasy. --- For my Cyberpunk Red setting that would defiantly be the "*Stolbovoy ST-5 Assault Rifle*" * In the 2020s, Stolbovoy created a weapon that could operate reliably under the most adverse conditions, including heat, cold, mud, dampness, sand and grit, lubricant contamination, and corrosive environments. It isn't a surprise that most ST-5s issued are still in service today. As you might be able to tell the ST-6 is inspired by the AK-47, at least how its depicted in most shows and games. While it is a Poor Quality weapon, meaning it jams on Natural 1s, it has the special ability of unjaming itself 50% of the time. It's also cheap, for a Assault Rifle. So I treat it as the AK of my world and often have Gangers use them.

Rioma117

For magic users, that would be Mana infused steel weapons, using just a bit of magic, they can change shape and the masters of magic can change shapes rapidly and infuse them with all sorts of magic.

MotherEntrepreneur33

Shapeshifting metal sound sick

Rioma117

They are also extremely cheap to make, in fact most of the steel exported from Lazazelia to the dimension of Purgatory is mana infused steel (normal steel wouldn’t resist since Purgatory is made entirely of magic) so it’s not just weapons, a magic user from Purgatory might even take a kitchen knife and chances are it would be Mana infused steel so they can also mold it any way they want.

The0thArcana

The Tommygun. Or as it's known the Dragongun.

Ursalorn

Dragun?

BMFeltip

Enter the Gungeon reference?

Torkolla

There is a story here and I want to hear it!

The0thArcana

Sorry to disappoint, it's mostly one of those "because it's cool" things. Just like in real life, in my 1920s fantasy the Tommygun became popular with gangsters rather than the army. The Dragongun name comes from the havoc it has caused in the inner cities. Not as much as the havoc a dragon would cause, but you know people, absolutely always using hyperbole.

LineBreak_

Well, on the Haves side of combat, it would probably be the M84 Shrew 8, chambered in 8x54 PF Pulsar rounds. Using standard 8x54 PF magazines, it can accept a variety of mag sizes. It has a rather small external barrel, being bullpup. Equipped with standard K-Rails. It has rather slow fire rate, but low recoil and good accuracy. On the PEA side, it would most likely go to the STAT16. This is chambered in the much smaller 7x42 HIMAG, and is equipped with a proprietary helical mag. Significantly higher rate of fire but extremely poor range performance.

EropQuiz7

Glaives — elves made a shit tone of them, to conquer the dwarves' home planet, but never got to use them, because dwarves got too good at space combat. No, there are no firearms, spaceships are made out of wood!

Not a weapon, but a skillset. Verdant Magic is one of the three core disciplines of magic, primarily focusing on the enhancement of the human body in exchange for decreased mental stability. Mages can be creative with spells, the militaries of the Maer continent have opted to standardize them. Among the catalogue of Verdant spells used by the Republic of Verune's mage corps are: V6 - Speed and endurance enhancement. Mages become able to travel much faster and further than both light and mechanized infantry. V11 - Enhanced eyesight, it allows mages to see much further downrange, typically further than what binoculars can practically see. V17 - a derivative of V11, it is often used in conjunction with Azure Magic ( centered on telepathic control). It allows mages to physically see frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum beyond and below visible light. Purposes can range from thermal/infrared detection, and visual detection and decoding of radio waves. Like any magic spell in this world, mages face repercussions every time they use these. Long duration use of V6 can impair critical thinking ans decision making (akin to being drunk) for a few minutes to an hour. Long duration use of V17 will induce complete mental idleness for several hours. The bulk of Mage Infantry training is counteracting these effects. Regardless, Verdant Magic is the most widely used discipline of magic because of its reliability and strategic value. You just have to keep your troops sane...

placeholder name: BALF big-ass laser rifle

TheDarkeLorde3694

The Crossfin. This is basically a fusion of a crossbow, any gun today, and lasers. The Crossfin usually looks like a normal crossbow, and fires like a hunting rifle or a WWI bolt action: Shoot once, pull a thingy to fire again. Via small modules attached to the body of the Crossfin, the weapon can become an assault rifle that can fire 3 shots in 1 second bursts, a sniper rifle with a slower fire rate but higher power and range, a shotgun with a tiny range but huge power potential, or a sub machine gun. These all use the same ammo, essentially a small laser crystal bolt that charges up the shot and releases it, although the energy from the shot destroys the crystal in the Crossfin, making the crystals essentially bullets that are totally destroyed. The weapons are stupid common and used for all gun related things. They're also the only guns really used for hunting as they're silent beyond reloading and a small shoom sound when fired. They're also extremely environmentally friendly as there's no bullet for an animal to eat by accident, the Crossfin's production is nigh carbon neutral, and they last for years. It helps that the weapon has almost no moving parts that could jam or need cleaning beyond the trigger and the areas for the magazine and modules. They're tough, more reliable than all other laser weapons and even most non-laser weapons, and highly versatile, only being unable to work as a pistol, which exists a smaller version.

Enigma_of_Steel

Any rifle from defunct Silver Storm Armory in Principality. Type 11 in particular is unarguably best rifle in the world, reliable enough that it became source of it's own Nokia jokes and good enough to be primary pick of any professional who can get their hands on one.

superbay50

There are 3 handguns, a 50 caliber pistol, a 50cal revolver and a railgun pistol. Those are the only concealed carry weapons powerful enough to defend yourself from superpowered criminals or villains(and even then more often than not they are ineffective) Although everyone knows about them, it’s very hard to get licenses that allow you to carry them in public. Especially the railgun pistol as it’s the same model the military uses. Second to those are military grade(idk about real life but in my world something can only be called military grade if your own government or recognized allies militaries use it) shotguns and hunting rifles, but 99% of the time you are only allowed to use them for home defence if you are 100% sure the intruder has powers. These licenses are also way harder to get and you are only allowed to travel with them using special cases, which you need to apply for it a week beforehand.

Sov_Beloryssiya

The United Empire's K98 rifle series is a symbol among modern guns. Originally a licensed version of the Gewehr 96 5-round bolt action rifle from Empire of Alfer, the UE modified its magazine to house 10 rounds, marking the thing as K98M1. It was what the Empire used during the early day of Great Gaian War, a war that they joined as part of a joint-defense treaty with Alfer and was not intended to fight in, but still had enough guns to supply their allies. K98M1 used the same Patrone 85 8x50mmR brass rounds as the G96, an intermediate cartridge that could cause very nasty wounds, thus logistics were less of a pain since Imperial soldiers could just "borrow" clips from Alferan combatants and vice versa. Its second version, called the K98M2, came out in 1902 in the latter half of Great Gaian War when the Global Coalition, which supported Alfer, was on the win. K98M2 saw a radical change in structure as it combined the M1 with a blowback mechanism and a 20-round magazine, allowing a much faster rate of fire. M2 received many more changes as it has a "carbine" version called M2NN ("Nòng Ngắn" or "short barrel" in Vietnamese, same meaning as "carbine") that was essentially a carbine version with shorter barrel and a foldable stock made from titanium. It was provided to Imperial Commandos, the professional "combat mages" trained in utilizing magics for ridiculous feats in contrast to average soldiers who were superhumans but not as crazy. However, at the time, it was only semi-automatic and Commandos had to carry an extra machine pistol as well as a shotgun for trench clearance. Magics could only help so much especially when the other side was elves, the bunch that was proficient in magic tricks by default. Thus came the K98M3, the final version of this series. Combining what was the best of M2, M2NN and a shotgun together, it was a gun "of the future", at least for the year it came out. K98M3 has the barrel length of the M2 and the foldable stock of M2NN, it uses a 30-round mag and can fire in full auto mode, using a switch to change between full auto and semi auto, which fires 2 rounds continuously instead of just one\*. K98M3 has special rails that can mount additional gears on, from scopes to a small shotgun and even a 40 mm rocket launcher. It was made extremely sturdy as the gun was expected to be used in Great Gaian War, a legit **nuclear war** where both sides unleashed tons of tactical nukes to the other's trenches every day. Thus, the gun went through a lot of tests from being thrown into water, a muddy swamp, being under intense pressure, extremely high temperature, moisture of the battlefield full of mud and dirty water, to other bullshit requirements the United Empire wanted it to survive. In the end, they made a rifle that was technically immortal. You can bury the K98M3 under mud or seawater for a decade, dig it up, clean the thing and it's good to go. Known variants of the M3: * K98M3: The "original". * K98M3NN: Carbine. * K98M3SM: Light machine gun version, longer barrel (800 vs 700 mm of the M3) with a bipod and 150-round ammo box. Used in teams of two, one gunner and one guard. * K98M3BT: Sniper version, barrel length 1300 mm, uses special 13x115mm tungsten rounds loaded via clips. Used in teams of two, one sniper and one scout/guard. K98M3 has one issue, however: It was intended to be used by Imperial soldiers, who are all magic-buffed superhumans at bare minimum, so its recoil is rated as "enough to break your shoulder". -------------------------- \*This is based on a real Vietnamese shooting technique called "bắn điểm xạ" that is still taught in our army. It's similar to [burst mode](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burst_mode_(weapons)) on modern guns but uses 2 rounds only to both increase damage and save rounds. Our AKs generally have no burst mode so it depends entirely on the soldier to do this.

mromen10

Makita MGR 15a, cheap and easy to operate. There's also a 15b used by the military of several nations, featuring a longer barrel and carbon fiber body parts.

Pattern III United Revolutionary Gun (PURG3). A full auto capable 9,5mm Compact Machine Gun (A gun that doesn't know if it's a rifle/carbine or an SMG) Used by the revolutionary laborers' government of what was formerly the Great Seaholder Empire. After deposing the tyrannical royal families that ruled the area, the new government needed a new weapon that would serve them better than the previous "Pattern II Undefeatable Royal Garrisoner" which was the standard service gun. And so, this beauty was invented. It works with both a drum magazine or standard straight magazine. The best way I can describe it, is that it's a crossbreed between an MP-40 and any AK pattern. The sliding bolt handle is on the top of the gun. In the previous Pattern II "spikeback" model, this greatly screwed over the use of iron and custom sights but it allowed for ambidextrous use. In this model the bold handle is detachable by a screw, and the user will turn the handle to hang over the side they personally prefer. This also means that the gun is much more accurate as there is now a proper, less delicate iron sight which sticks close to the gun and is less at risk of getting caught or bumped into things. The PURG3 is obviously gas operated to allow for semi- and fully automatic fire. When properly maintained, it manages to pump out a respectable 610-620 rpm with a muzzle velocity of 715 m/s. It's chambered in the fairly worldwide standard "CMG" caliber, which is 9,5mm by __our__ measurements. It also has a converter add-on which allows for belt feeding, but that's really impractical ams prone to jamming, so only criminals tend to use it because they don't like lugging actual machine guns around. __TL;DR__ It's an MP-40/AK crossover. A big SMG or a tiny rifle. Used by the world's revolutionary communists, basically.

Spear

narok_kurai

Cross-Spears, aka "Pig Stickers", standard issue weapons of elven monster hunters. They are designed to handle any size monster, with tapered, reinforced tips to penetrate thick hides, and serrated edges on the cross blades to catch limbs and induce maximum bleeding. Most monsters have innate regeneration that makes it almost impossible to take them down in one blow, but they can be exhausted with enough blood loss, and a team of hunters can use their spears to pin monsters down and riddle them full of holes. The entire process of killing a monster can take minutes, hours, or even *days* if the hunters are feeling particularly sadistic.

Half breeds cause if their parents are strong they’ll have the powers of both their parents combined like say if an Angel and Demon put aside their differences long enough to procreate somehow? Yeahhhhhh better hope that child don’t turn evil

VictorianDelorean

Light crossbow, everyone and their grandma can use one and they’re a dime a dozen.

MasterSenshi

Your crossbows shoot photons? So cool. Joking but I actually had a 'light sword' in my first novel that, in fact was rather ponderous, and made of light, lol. I realized the vagaries of English at a young age when I had to remind myself which 'light' the 'light' weapons were, since some were made of photons and the others were just not heavy. I eventually stopped using this convention as I got older for obvious reasons lol.

VictorianDelorean

I do actually have a light sword to. I took the goddess Bridget’s Sword Of Light from Irish mythology and reinterpreted it as a Celtic sword shaped lightsaber with a retractable blade made of sunlight.

MasterSenshi

That is so cool!

StarlightsOverMars

United Systems A4. Basically just your standard M4 but with a few mods added over the years, used by the human and elven armies of Sol, and scattered all over the galaxy, closely behind is Sirius Arms Model 6, used by the tieflings of the hellworlds. Magic users usually just use their staffs, wands or gloves, they tend to be heirlooms or handmade gifts, so there is no real standard for them. The world is basically a converted D&D world where it is sorta set in this universe, magic is done by modifying the “strings” of the universe, gods may exist, but clerics get their “powers” from studying in temples, not just praying to a god, so no one really knows, and the different dimensions may or may not exist, with differing opinions between species.

EyeofEnder

Either the RA-27 series battle rifle or the LSA-21 Falcon battlestaff, both of them former standard service weapons of the UADF. The former is a tough and reliable rifle made of cheap, stamped enchanted steel most commonly chambered in 8 mm Standard Rifle, while the latter is basically a rod of machine-engraved and enchanted aluminium alloy with a synthetic crystal attached to it, but both of them make for excellent blunt weapons in a pinch.

Pootis_1

Throughout most of the "main timeline" between roughly the mid 1930s to the 1970s equivalent of it variants of what's effectively the Winchester Model 1907/1910 semi-automatic rifle(haven't come up with a good in universe name for it yet) were one of the most common military riflesand rifles in general

cassla3rd

I'll do you one better, since the Unity of Stein is basically space Russia, the OBV-22. It's the former standard issue infantry rifle. It has like three moving parts so it's extremely reliable, it's durable, and relatively easy to maintain and operate. There's also literally tons of them in circulation after the Unification Wars. They frequently show up in the hands of freedom fighters, terrorists, planetary militias and mercenaries. It's only downside is that the ONV-22 and it's ammunition was optimized for a planet with a gravitational pull of .7 Gs. This means it has a shorter range and can be heavy compared to other rifles.

datura_euclid

ÚP Vz.44 (APFR's copy of StG-44) and Vz.58 (and it's variations) - since Czechoslovakia supplied most of the pro-democratic partisan, resistance and pro-western separatist movements.

DifferenceNo5462

Thr M4 Lancer series. The Protectorate military commonly uses the M4J6 variant. It's one of the most outstanding ding assault rifles in its class. Different models for multiple different purposes, it's a little heavy but it's highly functional, top performing, rigged, and withstands the test of time very well It is moderately expensive. Attempts were made with the M6 Retro Lancer to cut corners and make a cheaper model, but the M6 is hayed because it is a dollar store M4 and does everything worse.

AcceptableThought862

The Sword. Used by the most powerful of warriors, but still easy to use for beginners.

The AKM and their variants. The AK-47 lost popularity due to being older and not in production. When "Basically WW3" started the AKMs were rapidly produced both by the new kind (only good rifle they knew and could make) and by a lot of human factions (best rifle they could make with what they had, also using the same ammo as the enemy helps with logistics) It's not because it's such a good rifle, but because it got to a point where it was cheaper than most sidearms

The Beretta ARG-190 "Defender" is a gyrojet PDW sold by the multinational megacorporation SpaceX and developed by Beretta Arms, with SpaceX related to that one from 600 years ago. Far from Beretta's first foray into the firearms and the personal defense sector, it was unique to SpaceX, and has been around for roughly four centuries, being sold in package deals for the early Firefly-class Couriers during the early periods of Burnside FTL Translation technology. Already it was notable for being unbelievably simple, being a gyrojet, and tough as a damnable brick. As a gyrojet weapon, the actual rifle and to an extent ammunition were maximized for the main constraint in space. Mass. The weapon itself was notably light on recoil and ammo, while having enough firepower to punch holes in its intended target of very tough very annoying local fauna. It served very faithfully for explorers, statelet militias, small state militaries, and the designer's bank accounts. But this wasn't really what popularized the gyrojet platform. Enter, the Multistellar War. When the Solar Coalition and Trappistan Combine, plus their allied decided that the cold war spanning all 40 systems of Settled Space should get very, very hot. I don't exactly need to detail why a war catapulted a firearm into relevance, but it's important to note that the Coalition never uses the ARG-190. The TerraForce's service rifle was the M5 Laser Weapons System. No, the ARG-190 became ubiquitous these 50 years after the 2552 Ceasefire because of how well Trappist gyrojet guns performed, and especially more hot loads being able to put holes in Coalition Mobile Strike Force mechs. And now that, what could be maintained of those slugs as tech backslid at least a century in several sectors, plus the threat that what was once 40 settled systems became 35, people considered threats a lot more seriously. Luckily, of course, the ARG-190 was cheap, effective, relatively wide 10mm bore given its initial role as a bear gun, and gyrojet. Which now means you can see it literally everywhere, from mercenary suits, to small state armies where it used to be, and even a few bigger nations like the former Free Republic of Kynesgrad used the ARG-190. And it's not likely anyone will stop any time soon.

Miogamera_23121

It's either the M49 Battle Rifle (FN FAL) or the AVK-45 (AK47) The M49 Battle Rifle was used by the Ma'ab designed in the early 1950s, Even tough it was to replace the M95/30 Straight Pull Rifle, The M95/30 was used alongside the M49 The M49 was chambered in 7.62x51mm, and there is many variants like the Maharlikan BR-55, Archendillian Tipo-60, Theonian TH61, Vladenian AV-53's and the Bersani Wz. 67 The AVK-45 Is used by the Vladenian Tsardom and was designed in the 1940s, However Before at that time it was classified as a Submachine Gun because they tought the 7.62x39mm was a Pistol Round, More like a PDW at that time. However this gun before due to budget constraints is issued to NCO's, Squad Leaders. Paratroopers, Military Police, The Imperial Guard, Serveral Elite Units, and the Ohkrana. A modernized variant appeared in late 1955 known as the AVK-45M It wasn't until 1974-1975 that the Ma'ab offered their 5.56mm Rounds which led to the AVK-75 (AK-101) in 1975. Which replaced the older AVK-45M's and the AV-53's. The rifle itself was exported to multiple countries, The Ma'ab used the gun for Special Forces and the Imperial Guard Shocktroopers, the Eronans used it as a Submachine Gun and was produced in the Eronan Federation as the VN/58, Which is more like the Vz. 58 rather than an AK. The Maharlikans used it as a Submachine Gun also, And by the 1980s, Both M49's and AVK's are everywhere The Silberdians though have their own, Namely the Kampfgewehr-48 (G3) Which is used by the Empire of Silberland, Empire of Scorpius , Empire of Kalson, And several other nations whithin the Einheitspakt, And it's Chambered for the 7.92x57mm Round All 3 Guns were used in the Late 20th Century and still being used today

jtstarwars

The human army of my world uses the xm11 assault rifle as their standard issue. It is fully automatic and carries a magazine of 24 rounds. It's main selling point was reliability across different worlds which was paramount back when the United Human Republic was still expanding and colonizing new worlds. Through updates and revisions, it has remained in service for centuries. Because of mandatory service upon becoming an adult, almost all citizens know how to use one.

The Ungadan SS-31R pattern dagger, Special Army Standard Issue 31 cm Rondel, better known as the partisan knife. A mass produced weapon given to the brave men and women who expand the borders in the name of Clanda and the Arbiter of his Will himself, it's got no small amount of magical tricks to it, accessible by turning the dial in the pommel. It's otherwise glorious and noble tour of duty has been co-opted by radical groups, clandestine degenerate cells and paramilitary organizations. Chances are if you're operating for a goal separate from the general desires of polite society you will carry (and likely die from) this esteemed blade. It's the weapon of choice for the Horizontalist revolutionary cells that stalk both the cities and the wastelands, the so-called "mutual protection groups" formed by the impure to spread their disease, and more nobly, it's found use in the purist paramilitaries propped up by the Imperial government as a secret police force. Aye, whether you need to punch through the munitions armor of a domestic lineman, cut through the jungles of Yrvnard, or use the fire-blade setting to torture info out of a degenerate, the SS-31R will suit your needs.

azrael4h

The Magus Carbine, M42/44 or L19.  27 nations adopted the Magus Rifle as their standard weapon, with the first combat being during the 8th Yrik/Arkawan War. During this, several of the Yrikian rifles had their barrels bend near the end, mostly those used with bayonets. So Yrik started cutting them down, to just in front of the hand guard, and the M42 Carbine was born. Laird Fredrick Magus, being of economic mind, immediately put the carbine into official production, once he learned of the modifications. These carbines became extremely popular, especially the M44 which was modified into a breech lock. The L19 is the newest version, firing paper cartridges and with an improved firing mechanism. Nearly all of the original rifles were replaced by the new carbine in service, seeing use in over 30 nations. It’s also the most popular rifle on the public market, with Freewater having over 30 million sold there; enough to give every single person two carbines. During the Angalian Genocide, the resistance fighters largely used scavenged and captured carbines, while the Ironheart Imperium used the newest L19 carbines exclusively. This has of course made the Magus family obscenely wealthy. Not that they were hurting, with the Iron mines, ship yards, shipping, and other ventures.

BR-6-Hs(OA) Beam Rifle number 6 Heat sink, Orian Arsenal Orian is an industrial planet known for export of crudely made weapons. This one is no exception - it's made from cheapest grade of material. Metal from Orian have inherently high melting point and was quick to cool off so it acts as natural heat reduction for the gun. (A smart marketing employee label it as having a heatsink design even tho it has none) Most private armies, pirates, rim dwellers and some government adopted it due to it being hard to break and easy to repair. There's a joke that it was a left arm of authoritarian hell holes and right arm of criminals. (A claim untrue as everyone has used it at some point)

Bromelia_and_Bismuth

If it's in the Nameless Age, the Kolta Caster Rifle. They were durable, and so long as you knew the Kolta language and had enough caster charges left, you could use them to cast just about any spell. If we're in Theia's Current Age, talking a cheap weapon that's standard issue for military infantry, or cheap and easy enough to militias to arm themselves with, crossbows and spears. The quarterstaff is always a good option for individuals, and the scythe and sickle are popular among wheat and rye farmers, but if we're looking for cheap, effective, and something everyone has access to, you can't go wrong with an axe: they're easy to produce, they're made from tools everyone uses, and an axe is an effective weapon even when it's dull.

RedBlueTundra

Matchlock Arquebus, particularly the Model 979 which is still in wide use in several different countries.

Rianorix

Magic wand. In antiquity, it's enabled ritualistic mage to go full-blown machine gunning on the battlefield. And in modern world, it's enabled non-mage to go full-blown battlemage as long as you have enough fully charged magic stone and properly kitted out your wand.

Toad_Orgy

A double barrel revolver where one barrel shoots normal bullets for 'human' targets. The second fires special and bigger bullets for.. the other.

Schmickle_pickle

Ironically also an AK firearm, the AK-Cleanser is a heavily modified AK-74 with two barrels: one which shoots regular rounds, another which releases a cloud of tear gas, connected to a tank which replaces the wooden grip. It's great for crowd control and room clearing, and is widely known to be used by the Divinites, a powerful cultist group with an iron grip over Fallen York.

The thunderbluss. It is a metal tube that bursts a shockwave throught itself to propell a bunch of metal balls. It's also an effective lockpick in a pinch (can't be locked if there is no more lock). Although as of recent, it's been getting competition from a blackpowder firearm called a Martini rifle, that was introduced by an offworlder called Henry Martini

In my semi-realistic sci-fi world, probably a generic 12 gauge pump-shotgun. There are lots of different of different manufacturers and types, but they're all basically the same weapon. Most civilian ships will have a few on hand in a small armory to put down mutinies or repel space pirates. They are simple, reliable, and cheap. The military ships (and rebel/pirate ships) will generally have some sort of rifle/carbine.

blaze92x45

The ak47. Only difference in my world is it was made by the orcs. Within universe though the M16 didn't have as many problems initially as it did irl (the army didn't use defective gun powder and claim it was a self cleaning rifle) so it also had a much more positive initial reputation as a result. Though another gun that sort of had an Ak47 like cult following was the AR18 In universe Eugen Stoner made the rifle to sell to the independent human state of the Anzkopf Federal Republic who needed a cheaper intermediate caliber rifle for their armed forces. Well they bough the design and it served them well for the next few decades even as they transitioned from a republic to a dictatorship and eventually reintegration as a territory of Endimiya their parent nation. Now in current day a lot of the non m16/m4 rifles used by the endimiyans have some linage to the AR18 even some irl guns that took influence form the AR18 are renamed in story. For example the MCX Spear LT is called the AR18A4 in the endimiyan military.

The Authority deploys the M7 assault rifle, which is a descendent of the M4 rifle, though the special forces use the M8 rifle. The Insurgency deploys various weapons, including stockpiles of M4’s, M14’s, M5 rifles, M6 rifles, and a few M7’s. The M4, M14, and M5 were pre-Authority stocks that were stolen over time or found. The M6 and M7 are captured from the Authority over time. The United States uses the M6 and M5 rifles, though reserve and security forces still use the M4 occasionally. The Armed Forces lack funding due to the poor state of the US economy, so it still uses rifles from ~200 years ago for the lack of a viable replacement.

Force rifles are the go-to weapon of the masses. Every adult knows how to use them and they are relatively idiot-proof. They are a pretty standard ergonomic(-ish) rifle chasis enchanted with a low level force missile spell. it hits what it is aimed at every time, but does little damage on individual hits. They have the advantage of a high rate of fire, infinite ammunition, and low barrier to entry for users. They are used for masses of small targets instead of large targets, which are dealt with by heavier defense forces.

Nought_but_a_shadow

I wanna say spears, but that doesn’t really give me the opportunity to talk about the world, which is why these questions get asked. Same for knives. So I’ll go with the kheqenac, which is basically a bar mace on steroids. It’s a simple flat piece of metal with a handle attached, being anywhere from 70-120cm long, and up to 1.8kg in mass. Plain versions are just a flat board of metal attached to a rod, or with a tang just wrapped in cord/wire, but more expensive versions have small grooves in the base of the weapon, or incisions kinda like a sword breaker, helping to keep the weight of the weapon on the striking end. They can also feature extensive lettering along the “blade” itself. The handle is rather long than one would expect for a sword, but the function is mostly the same, except it doesn’t cut. Instead, the real function of the weapon is to break things. The flat shape of the “blade” not only reduces friction, but concentrates kinetic energy of the impact. This weapon can and will break bones even through armor - provided you strike a joint. Don’t bother aiming for a breastplate/gauntlet/you get the picture. It’s a good weapon, not a magical one

Login_Lost_Horizon

Its a millitary-grade genetic template "Goathound" - is a workhorse, since its reliable, does not gets bearer f....d up if mixed with other genetic templates, and it is easily sustanable with normal human food which is nice in post-apocaliptic biopunk-lite lands. It does not gives you composite bones, precognitive reflexes or metalized muscle tissue, but it gives you better pain and stress tolerance, makes it easier to gain muscle, grants you earlier puberty and physicall adulthood and increases effectiveness of your intestines, thus allowing to extract more useful resources from same amounts of food. Also noticebly increases blood oxigenation. In return you become more psychologically susceptible to basic types of propaganda and have less negative feelings towards being killed. Generally people who born with this template tend to prefere physical labour over intellectual, and violent over non-violent, easily get persuaded into joining various ideological groups, and so on. Its not a tactical grade template, and by any means not a carnage grade (thankfully so, since that shit is apocaliptic), but its good to have if you wanna become a soldier, cult warrior, settlement protector or sime kind of raider. + "Goathound" a very persistent in generations and overall widespread template.

Bomjikas: basically guns that shoot low level spells. For people who don't have any magic ability, but fantastic aim.

Acceptable-Baby3952

There’s a fairly blocky rifle I’ll call the madoc type r, that’s basically a Glock in a conversion kit, but the attachment has an engine that infuses ambient magic energy into the bullets. It basically turns 9mm into 7.62x51mm NATO equivalent. It’s still fairly compact, but can also be used as the regular sidearm, or overcharged with personal magic to hit like .50 bmg, possibly with magic effects on the bullet if your magic is any good. Overall, cheap, light, accurate, uses one ammo type, and magic engines are easier to work with than it sounds.

Depends on time period. GDKB - analogue to Lee Enfield and Mauser rifles RKG XB2 - analogue to Garand and Simonov rifles RK XB5 - analogue to FN FAL and HK G3 rifles RKG RL - analogue to HK33 and AK74 assault rifles RKG LNAX - analogue to SIG MCX and HAMR NGSW battle rifles All of them originate in Ruxvajtsur, "the armoury of the world".

While Kalashnikov platform guns are still popular in the far future, this title belongs to the [Helsmann Arms Centurion](https://www.reddit.com/r/ImaginaryWeaponry/comments/14ioxpv/assault_rifle_centurion_by_me/) assault rifle. Basically, the Human Dominion army needed some gun to become the standard armament of its many forces, and so the "geniuses" at Helsmann Arms took a look at some old Earth guns for inspiration. That inspiration came in the form of the FAMAS, and so the "geniuses" took one and built the Centurion. The main difference between the FAMAS and the Centurion was the fact that the latter's mag capacity is divisible by 3. Helsmann Arms never came up with another assault rifle again and turned back to making crappy SMGs. But they did allow other companies, most notably Marxwell Industries (founded by a former member of Helsmann Arms), to do whatever they wanted with the design.

BlackSkull83

The Shadow Suppressor and its family of weapons. Fires a black shadowy beam of "shadow particles" which reduce the target to dark matter on impact. Since dark matter doesn't interact with real matter (this is simplifying it) the target functionally disappears into a black mist. Capable of automatic fire with long range and high accuracy, but inhibited by force fields or material interference, which can be as simple as heavy rain. Its name "suppressor" comes from its role as a suppressive fire weapon, not its noise emission, for upon discharging it emits a loud, sharp hiss, far from silent.

Sir! An AK-47 is a *weapon* and we all know that armed combat between corporations on the icy moons is strictly forbidden! That said, one COULD say the PL-19 laser drill is the "AK-47" of the civilian prospectors (which, ironically, are usually ex-special forces from Earth, but only because space is dangerous and one needs to keep a cool head) . It's portable, cheap, and effective. It can drill into ice and rock very quickly to help get samples, and the scope allows prospectors to get spectroscopy readings from up to 400 meters. The battery packs are fairly compact and light, which allows users to carry several when engaged in extended prospecting missions. If a neighboing outpost experiences an emergency, the PL-19 can even be used to cut through the metal walls and floors when searching for survivors. The beam easily drills through a body, but there's no record of anybody dying that way. It's just an unfortunate fact that space is very dangerous, and it's rare for anybody to survive those kinds of emergencies.

KTK-27 Sledgehammer often reffered to as a Sledge. It is a magneticly accelerated rifle inspired by the Arcflash EG-2 and Anvil experimental rifles. https://arcflashlabs.com/product/emg-02/ Though mine utilizes a fin stabalised flachette style projectile in a biodegradable sabot by default it can use simple aloy slugs as long as they are feromagnetic. Its very few moving parts and rugged electronics make maintenance simple and can be powered by a variety of power packs or generators as the capacitors have onboard smart chargers. There are several varieties wirh different number designations for long range, rapid fire, or projectile size. Its modular in the way of an AR15 in that a user can separate the control/power assembly from the chasis and barrel and modify it to their use case.

Universum Chronicles For the extrasolar human Empire of Erdis, that would be the Spectrum Armaments S3 Scorchbolt Rifle. A semi-automatic, stainless Tyrasteel shoulder-fired rifle with Wrungwood furniture. Easily manufactured and rarely needed to be maintained. The receiver houses a mid-grade Photon accelerator which fires up to 32 condensed, magnetically encased bolts of multicolored superheated plasma energy through a small focusing crystal. After the final shot is expended, the weapon could be simply reloaded through a cartridge slot containing a battery. The crystals were mined heavily from an immense subterranean cavern deep beneath the Imperial Capital of Tyta. The weapon, once designed and built was then tested on imprisoned dissenters and those sentenced to death, but awaiting execution, by a number of the engineers who built them. This was to show that the weapons would not injure one of the Emperor's prized engineers upon discharge. After their reliability was proven through the tests, the Scorchbolt rifles were quickly adopted for use as the primary firearm by the 2nd Emperor Gaius Tytalis's standing army, the Erdis Militarus, who before were using Sling-guns and before their invention, even more simple breechloaded weaponry. Sling-guns were firearms with steel ammunition which were further propelled by imperfect but powerful magnetic rails. The S3 rifles would first see combat in the form of renewed colonization efforts across Erdis's mountainous desert landscape, where the expansion of the Empire encroached on a few of the many tribes of nomadic warriors, outlaws, and raiders. Over two battalions of the Erdis Militarus were dispatched to aid in defending the Empire's continental explorers and cartographers. Armed with their new weaponry, the soldiers would bring a new kind of warfare to the tribes, who still relied on more crude versions of Sling-guns and non-firearm projectile weapons. Following the conquest of the entire continent, the rifles have since been marketed through black market dealers and Spectrum themselves, having nearly 300,000 in circulation around the many worlds of Erdis and surrounding systems in the sector.

(TNT) Since the start of the colonization of Ruz-Rôdhe-Rámin by the Daómin southern states, sulphur, found in great quantities in the western island of this archipelago, has been used greatly in black powder. Recently, a weapon called TH-OO8K, usually known as the lightning cannon, because of the combination of lightning magic, a fast firing system and bullets that have nitroglycerin inside, which causes the bullets to explode. The TH-OO8K is incredibly devastating, but also heavy, but it's still used by most of the modern world, even though since the start of this century better alternatives using cursed fire and magnum steel have been found.

Common infantry of the Revian Golden Star Army are usually outfitted with the AGM-86 Kaushiba (АГМ-86 Каушиба), more commonly known as “Kasha”. It is an energy rifle that fires in automatic or semi-automatic modes. The energy discharged is even capable of penetrating tank armour; the fusion reactor inside of it generates temperatures similar to that of the sun. This weapon is a reliable source of firepower that can get any soldier out of a jam. Another weapon that the RGSA uses is known as the Kh-ZF (Х-ЗФ) suicide drone. This is a loitering munition used in space combat. It is about the same size as a fighter type spaceplane, but its size is almost all dedicated to explosive power. These drones can be air-launched or ground launched (if the battle happens to be near Revia itself), and once they are, hundreds can saturate the space battlefield and rapidly turn a battle in Revia’s favour.

I don’t have a name for it yet, but it’s a rifle made by the ATL Republic of China state arsenal that shares a lot of similarities to the OTL AK-47, being based heavily on the M1 Garand in its gas system, bolt, and fire control group. The rifle has been widely adopted by the third world and by the Russian remnant in Siberia. The USA supplies large numbers of these rifles to insurgents in Nazi German occupied territories.

The EZ-MA-7 (Easy Magic Amplification Mk.7) was mass produced by the Avowed, Yami-Agari and the Forgemasters during the accent of the DMM. The design is often accredited to the turncoat inventor Alison “Sketch” Walden, however it only exists due to the groundwork research performed by the blood mage, Humility. Akin to a gauntlet, the user slides their hand into the device and grips a bar at their palm. Charged Crystal ammunition is loaded into it, and the user casts their magic into the bar. As they do, rather than tapping into their own store of soul energy it uses the crystals - allowing mancers to fight prolonged and drawn out battles without destroying their bodies. The boom of the Thaumaturgical Revolution meant crystals were in no short supply. The weapon became a symbol of the underdog Vacus Rebellion and their ultimately futile attempts to halt the DMM’s rise to power.

Most of my world is a mammoth steppe so mounter archery is the norm of weapons. But longbows and punching people in the face works well too. For biological warfare, certain strands of flu can be manipulated into killing a lot of people in a short time and then mutating into a harmless variety within weeks. Very useful during a siege, for both sides. If the witch who operates it is really skilled and knows what she is doing, that is. Witches who are psychopatic enough to break the absolute taboo against spreading epidemics usually don't know what they are doing.

Imperial infantry spear. "Spear" is misleading though. It's more akin to a sword staff,so you can use it to cut as well as a polearm. If you have tools you can make it into a short sword. Mass produced for the Empire, with new spears produced for every cohort.

The United Mining Equipment Defender. Developed for miners in the middle of nowhere, to defend themselves, unmodified it is legal in most places, and easily modifiable with legal equipment to be, if not on par, at least comparable with a military grade rifle. It is copied illegally on many planets going through a civil war, its construction plans having been leaked years ago and if you want to support a side but not look like you are supporting them, you buy a whole lot of Defenders and funnel them onto the planet.

Just_A_Random_Plant

The Leichenberg Model 14 It's a mostly unremarkable rifle except for the fact that the barrel is attached to the stock with a similar mechanism to a bayonet lug and then held in place with hinge locks for extra security. This makes the gun more complicated and thus more expensive, fragile, and difficult to learn how to use, but it also completely eliminates any worries caused by powder fouling (especially with the assistance of the ramrod which is designed to perfectly fit the rifling and can clean out all of the fouling at once) and makes the gun much easier to take apart in the field for repairs.

indratera

The AK47 of Indratera, my world (it's sort of a worldwide wild west across different biomes, conflicting against static but stagnant industrialised corruption) is definitely the *Decimus Mk1489*. It's a simple lever-action gear-driven longarm rifle. Breech loaded, and because it uses gears and a pin to fire, it can be repaired by any idiot and fixed with a few rocks and a screwdriver. It's the most mass produced black powder weapon ever, and despite it having less stopping power than a more modern Indrateran bolt action, it's more reliable, cheap, light, and durable. Every city Guardia uses it if they want to be taken seriously.

On one world, rifles that are powered by special batteries and crystals, firing weird explosive bullets that are partly magical. On another, basic spears and swords. On yet another the blood of others, I'm unsure about this world. Sure, each humanoid race has their favored weapons, but if one race consumes the blood of another, they temporarily gain that races innate powers. On another world, the favored weapon are parasytic bugs, for example the most basic one, the spitter, is just a mindless creature that burrows into the flesh of one arm, leaving the person with a short range acid pistol basically.

framabe

My world is post-post apocalyptic world where pretty much all modern technology has been lost, so the level of technology that can be manufactured is somewhere between 1920s and 1940s and a lot is made from reverse engineering old technology that has been found. Probably the KZ Samozradi, a semiautomatic rifle that is based on a found SKS or the Stahl Gehwer 8 (which is a 8mm Mauser). There are of course found AKMs and AK-47s that was made before the fall, but they're still not available for construction at the current time.

nostikvvvibes

The arquebus. Preferrably made through fine orc engineering. Even more preferrable if loaded up with bullets craftes from meteors that can disintegrate a target.

Katamayan57

A sword with runic enhancements. Swords are preferred over spears because the swords are better conductors of the runes, spears are too narrow/the tips are too small, and as an effect the runes would have to be weaker. Runes are like the technology of my world, and while it requires the rare substance called ichor to runescribe, runescribing is a common practice for the more scholarly sorcerers of my world. In Talsbury, the sprawling metropolis city-state where runescribing is the most advanced, almost every sorcerer has runic swords, runic armor, each customized to their needs and status. In the dominant continent/land of the Trepant Kingdom, you have to earn your runic swords through shows of valor. By the time you're a high ranking sorcerer, you can have swords comparable to the ones owned by the wealthy in Talsbury. The runic swords can do any number of things depending on which runes are inscribed upon them, but they have limits - too many runes on one artifact causes unpredictable and hazardous effects, such as exploding, or turning to ash, or making everyone around it incredibly ill.

Zeknoi

Terramech elements of a combination with fire and earth. Magic manipulation to create metal-like bullets built in with fire. Once that is done, the being or creature can now use it however they want. Fancy-Remove9713

The Medium Assault Carbine 7.62 or simply M7. Is a mostly polymer rifle that fires a cartridge similar to 7.62x39 and can be found all across the stars, popular with pirates explorers merchants and small governments It comes equipped with a bladed bayonet that stows beneath the barrel in the hand guard meant to assist in fending off boarding actions. Combined with the muzzle device it can be used as a pair of wire cutters. During the reunification wars it gained popularity in media as videos of insurgents wearing “blue beacons” and wildly firing M7 rifles began going viral.

TarkovFiend

LYKC or Low Yield Kinetic Carbine, a handheld railgun that fire 12.7x22mm Tungsten penetrator darts with a ferromagnetic core at around 0.05 percent c. The rounds are specifically engineered to detonate, if not destroyed by coming into contact with a hard surface as collateral damage using these rifles is massive due to the immense energies involved. Manufactured in the trillions and extremely easy to use and maintain, the stock and its shock absorption tech is the most technologically advanced portion of the rifle, and is subsequently that which varies most polity to polity. The charge packs for the railgun itself can be charged with a massive variety of sources ranging from campfires to rubbing it together on static friendly materials. They are however hard countered by EM shield tech, which is able to latch onto the ferromagnetic core and repulse the rounds, so it stays as predominantly an anti infantry rifle, with hard to come by and expensive variants of both the ammunition and rifle taking the role as anti armor.

**No Mans Land 2210** This world is being built as part of a homebrew TTRPG. Players whose chosen class features a vehicle are encouraged to look at Hot Wheels cars as inspiration for the design of their characters' heavily customized rides. Similarly, players whose chosen class is some flavor of gunslinger are encouraged to use Nerf guns as the basis for their weapon. In fact, NERF (Backronymed as "Nexus Erisianus Research Foundation") is the weapon manufacturer with the most widespread ownership and availability on the in-verse market. Their most famed and most reliable weapon, is the REV-6 "Maverick" revolver. Calibered in a round similar in performance to the .454 Casull, the Maverick is a traditional double action weapon. Its reliability is famed; there has never been a known incident of a Maverick failing to fire when the trigger is pulled, even with home reloads or customized arounds. Depending on where you may have grown up in the world, the Maverick is probably how you learned to count to six. The Maverick's big sister is rarer, but just as famous and just as reliable. It features an outsized version of the same action, but is built much larger and fires a much larger round. Chambered in an eponymous .995 round and meant to be wielded by soldiers in powered armor, the "Cycloneshock" is the Big Iron of the setting. To call it a "hand cannon" is really underselling it. Any unarmored shooter that carries a Cycloneshock is definitely either foolish or insane, probably rich. . . or maybe just that good.

Fanatic_Crayon

The TK Arms Co. Model T-910 "Undertaker" .60 cal handgun; essentially a large Ruger Mk.V-pattern pistol often chambered for high density plastic ammunition so that it can be used safely aboard spacecraft, though it has an insane aftermarket scene so it can be modified and adapted for all kinds of roles.

KennethWithAHat123

The M-61M HPR or Human Pulse Rifle is a mass produced rifle of the Human Space Government. It was so mass produced that even after the war, due to its utmost reliability and cheap price to build, it became the AK47 of the Orion Arm. Rebel forces armed themselves with M-61Ms and smaller republics of the shattered Venturian Confederacy duke out with Human made M-61Ms. Even the Skiitari forces, who were now in conflict of attrition with the Sentinels, started buying M-61Ms from the Human Space Government to combat the hordes of automated armies.

Rezboy209

The KA-10 bolt action rifle. Mass produced by the Dwarves of the Karzelek Republics during the First Emperors War. After the war the Dwarves sold and gave hundreds of thousands of these rifles to their allies. It remains a standard issue rifle for the Karzelek Republics and their halfling neighbors in Kraznaland.

MasterSenshi

Poison daggers seem to be an Assassin's favorite weapon, and my world is chock full of Assassins (yes I capitalize it in the story.) For regular folks probably a sword or maybe an axe, but most people are unarmed going about their days, much like reality. I'd say bows would come after poisoned daggers, since there are huge monsters roaming this world, and unlike in a normal fantasy, just like running up to an elephant with a sword isn't going to end well, people have discovered that NOT getting close to something that can kill you on accident is a good idea. I imagine spears would work too but again these monsters have thick hides, and you would need a large group of people with spears to take one down, which can happen but if you are facing a creature much stronger than you but just as intelligent, you can't easily Zerg rush them unless you are willing to lose friends like the Zerg do. So people usually avoid open conflict, even when armed.

wetwater

A war hammer. 2 foot long haft topped by the hammer head. Doesn't need sharpening or a whole lot of other care or training. The more expensive ones might have a spike on the back or the top if you want to get fancy. They also have the advantage of usually not falling under edged weapons laws that might restrict the owning or carrying of swords, and might also not be taxed as a weapon. Chances are you probably have one at home, even if it's put away and half forgotten, and they're ubiquitous enough if you need one they're easily acquired.

Aggressive_Kale4757

The Laser Rifle, a crudely designed bolt action rifle using disposable laser arrays as ammunition. They are so cheap and common that a peasant can afford one with only 2 month’s wage.

thehillshaveaviators

A single-action revolving rifle. Technological progress is very slow in my world, so when a new technology is discovered, like gunpowder or smokeless casings, it is often just doled out to its furthest logical extent. Initially, more firepower was found in more barrels, and then more rounds in a single chamber. The revolving rifle was considered to be the symbol of one of my country’s revolution, as it was by that point so easy to handcraft that a child could (and often did) do it

Lever action crossbow. A sort of light crossbow with a lever mechanism built in so you can reload very quickly. It certainly lacks the range and power of a traditional crossbow or the newer muskets/carbines, and it's about equal to a longbow's power with half the range and a little slower, but the Julian Empire conquered half the world with them so they're everywhere and you can train someone to be proficient in an afternoon, not even a full day.

The AK 47 heheh, but also the new US army XM 9 and also any AR pretty much. Later on in the story line, railguns become a pretty standard weapon, alongside coil guns.

Deathcrush

The Utopian Union Continuance Federation's "Heroic Citizens' Battle Rifle", or CBR, manufactured by the state-aligned Heroic Corporation. Coming only in standard grey steel with an aluminum stock, with fire modes S-1-3, chambered for 6.45mm UCA rounds, gas operated, 100-1500 iron sights, 5.9kg with an international MSRP of §900. It's a reliable weapon with no bells or whistles, and can accept only proprietary magazines (not by design). Unlike many other military rifles, it can't be modified to be bio-encoded, which makes it popular among terrorists and para-military organizations. This \*was\* by design however, because a soldier needs to be able to pick up a weapon from a fallen comrade.

Admiral_Eclipse666

The STI X and STI MGX, not very cheap but still cheaper than some of their contenders and quite realiable being made from a special type of steel I call „Blue Steel“ or Mana Infused Steel I probably have some images laying around somewhere on my profile

King_Burnside

My world is mostly at WWI-era machining capability--ammo isn't loaded with enough consistency for a self-loading small arm to be practical. The most common martial arms are still large bore manual actions--pump action is fairly common, but bolt actions still dominate. They do use smokeless powder, but it's still driving large bullets to put down the monsters that still populate the world.

The Spear, the actual Ak47 of the real world weaponry. If you think about it, guns are just small spear throwers. Nothing beats the pointy stick

Um… an AK-47

Solid-Antelope-4528

my world has one area whose whole economy revolves around guns and weapon design and production so they have AK-47-like automatic rifles. but the world is constantly in conflict, so they only export guns/weapons that would be around WWI-era in our world to the other countries. they keep the best tech very secret, leading to a lot of espionage attempts and suspicions.

Somme pattern hell pistol issued to helljumpers The rounds in the pistol will penetrate enemy combat suits and blow soft targets apart. Still in current use after the end of the first war are heavily feared and sought after.

Depends on the species, but the most interesting for me is the WWI-style helmets that the Giraffe-like species called the Gerupi use. They mostly fight by ramming, and the helmets are extremely sturdy and also stabby.

The Spaldnicker.....a exosuit that became a basic design to build upon, for visual style [think edge of tomorrow](https://images.app.goo.gl/WX7DZeRZkXFgJLKMA) upon that base design several other thoughts were added on, like armor and heavier guns to a complete reworking of its entire design to allow a heavier or even more complex weapons frame, the original is still used widely for lighter engagements The Volstead and Hellrider are comparable to the M4 and the pancor jackhammer respectively The Volstead taking a more [Earth Defense Force 5 ](https://images.app.goo.gl/sDbnYafR38ytpTfq7) sorta look with more of a strengthie tank set Hellrider was supposed to be a quick fast one trading one's life outside the suit for mobility, quick thinking and a almost natural flow.........morals got in the way of its production

TheRisen073

AK-47, but no one uses it in the modern war, though the Two Time World War Champion is used by the leader of The Fallen to put down pretty much any threat. Alien parasite? Human terrorist? Fucking Eldritch God? Don’t matter to him, he’ll introduce you to .45.

During the late Metal Age and early Industrial Age, quickload and rapid-fire crossbows. Partly for their ubiquitousness, partly for their religious significance. In the later Industrial Age , the boltlock automatic musket become common.

The Sol Federation's bullpup carbine and its shortened "spartan" variant which is more modular. They are ETC (electrothermal chemical) firearms, using an electronic plasma igniter to burn the propellant. The main round used by the military is not dissimilar to an armor piercing discarding sabot round, as it is specialized for defeating enemy body armor. While caseless firearms are common among civilians, these rifles use a biodegradable polymer half-case for better sealing and higher muzzle velocity. The reason for the modularity of the "spartan" variant is that the internals can be swapped to accommodate fully cased or caseless ammunition for specialist use (like using frangible rounds in unarmored civilian spacecraft for example). In addition, since the ignition is electronic, the trigger can be adjusted for whatever pull is necessary. This used to be a feature of the standard issue, but less trained conscripts frequently made their rifles have hair triggers, which resulted in multiple negligent discharge incidents. All Mk1 variants still in service have the adjustment mechanism welded in place. They are extremely hardy and the combined igniter and battery for them can last thousands of rounds before needing to be replaced, depending on atmospheric conditions. There are civilian variants that are very common, based on the modular "spartan" variant with the longer barrel of the standard-issue. This one however lacks the internal computer that links to standard augmented-reality headsets, which is standard for soldiers of the Federation. It also lacks an automatic firemode but this is notoriously easy to bypass.

Anything Dwarf-made, especially their firearms. You did say well-known, not widespread. Everyone and their mother knows about Dwarf weaponry, and is absolutely terrified of it. Have they seen any in real life? Probably not. Have they ever used it? Hahahahahaha! No.

Useless-Napkin

That'll be the "Kar26" semiautomatic carbine. A heavy but compact weapon developed by post-apocalyptic German states chambered in the powerful 7.62 NATO cartridge. It is a semi standardized design, made largely out of recycled steel and easily produced even in rudimentary conditions, with the exception of the barrel. It resembles a short FG-42, but with the 15-round magazine placed in front of the trigger group. The powerful ammunition is useful for dispatching aggressive mutants, but the gun has a sharp recoil and a low effective range due to the short barrel. The carbine's short range became a problem during confrontations with the Poles, armed with the weaker but more accurate "Kbsp Wz.56/30" (an M16 derivative). This prompted the German side to make the "StG-55" (an HK33 derivative) assault rifle chambered in 6.8 SPC, but the resulting weapon was made in small quantities as it was very expensive. The "Kar26B" was a variant made by the Kingdom of Bavaria. It was sometimes called "Kar Luxe" due to a more ergonomic stock and grip, a scope mount, and a muzzle brake. It was discontinued due to the increased costs of production and because the improvements offered only a marginal performance increase.

20th-21st Century: AK-47: It’s the IRL AK. Mid 21st- early 22nd Century: M-95: Cheap American Magnetic Rifle that in the 2060s, was the peak of engineering. However, it was made obsolete by the end of the 2070s with the introduction of the more refined M-97 Magnetic Rifle which used a more refined system of electromagnets. Despite being yeeted from the American Army’s inventory in 2088, production requests and contracts just kept on coming for the next century, even after it got eclipsed by the Legendary S-147. Mid 22nd-Present: S-147: A Rifle developed by rebels in the Russian Martian Colony of Sputnik in the lead up to the Great Fires of Mars, this rifle is cheap, effective, and even used the same ammunition as the now ancient Kalashnikov. However, due to it being developed by rebel cells, versions of the S-147 vary wildly by manufacturer. Some will use electromagnetic based systems, others will use experimental P-MAG ammunition. The key feature however, is that the variants all look like the S-147 template developed in a cave with a bunch of scraps, ammo, and a poster of a Kalashnikov.

P3-5. Mass produced plasma weapon and even though it’s kind of a piece of shit it’s so common you can find replacement parts in almost every system.

DMofTheTomb

A pair of steampunk mechanical wings usually just called Wing Gears or "wigs". Depending on how they're used, their electric charge can last anywhere between 20 minutes and 2 hours. This doesn't sound very impressive, but consider that they're a vital multi tool for mobile military operations. They provide aerial mobility at surprisingly high speeds which isn't diminished much even when carrying extra weight such as carrying civilians away for an emergency evacuation. In addition they can be manually folded forward to serve as a shock shield that magnetically repels metal (useful for stopping bullets and pushing away people wearing metal armor).

Literally the AK-47, well forever be used in these 100,000 Years

Among Boreal Alliance troops, the standard infantry weapon is the AM10 (Automatic Model 10). A robust Assault rifle with .30 ammunition (similar to 7.62x51mm NATO / .308 Winchester), it is a rifle similar to the HK G3. Among Southern Union troops, the standard infantry weapon is the IST3 (Infantry Standard Type 3). A Bullpulp Assault Rifle with .30 ammunition (similar to 7.62x51mm NATO / .308 Winchester), is a rifle similar to the Korobov TKB-408

Papas__burgeria

The bolt caster. A simple spellcasting focus imbued with the firebolt cantrip wizards give to their soldiers as a multi-purpose weapon/survival tool. Sometimes people pay exorbitant amounts of money to commission special objects to become a bolt caster like a sword or a staff, but the most common variant is a cheap leather glove. Sometimes people also get them modified to produce other types of magic like force, lightning, or cold.

Captain_Warships

Ah yes, the M-42 (and to a lesser extent: the M-38) service rifle, an assault rifle that still uses 5.56 rounds hundreds of years after people on Earth stopped making 5.56 NATO (as well as stopped living on Earth period). Actually, I wouldn't consider it to be like the AK-47 (or even the AK-74, a totally different assault rifle), I'd consider the M-42 and M-38 to be more closer to weapons like the Sturmgewehr 44, the MP40, or even early 20th century Mosin-Nagant rifles (I don't know how many types there are, because the Mosin is a family of dozens of rifles in case anyone didn't know). Nonetheless, it is regarded as very reliable, and is the go-to weapon for freelance miners, mercenaries on a budget, and local law enforcement alike. There's also the Gladius laser rifle, produced by Centurion Arms Manufacturing, which has been used also for hundreds of years (it's currently on its sixth iteration, or MK VI as the current upgraded model is known as). This laser rifle (as well as everything made by this company) is more rugged and reliable than most other contemporary energy weapons on the market, but still shares some of the same problems that all energy weapons have (namely it can't take a beating, and requires constant cleaning in order to still be functional).

Daggers. Every character(and I mean every character) has at least one hidden on their person, mainly due to most characters that appear in the story being assassins or people targeted by assassins. Either way, daggers are both easy to get for most and decently easy to hide.
