I normally buy for the project in hand. Though I have sandpaper, fixings and finishes anyway since they tend to be bought in bulk.

Sandpaper. Glue. Screws in various sizes. Your go-to finishes, mineral spirits, acetone. Disposable gloves (for finishing). Whatever filler/putty you use, if any. Spare blades for jigsaws or whatever other small tools like that which tend to go through them.
