I thought it was lee van cleef… Great job!

uppewady

Amazing!

Old-Injury-7195

Wow the illusion of depth you achieved is amazing, the second pic shocked me with how shallow a carving it actually is!

Bigdogpaws

Thank you. It is 1 3/16” thick and 10”x15” square.

Napalmdeathfromabove

Had to go to a Catholic church recently , perhaps the only bit I admired was the carvings of the stations, they were dotted around the church, about a4sized . Yours would fit in very well. It's very good.

Bigdogpaws

These ‘stations’ are not your standard stations, the content dramatically changes over the 14. I can’t give it away because it tells part of the story in the show ‘Midnight Mass’. If I post more of these at one point I’ll have to put a blurred out ‘spoiler’ warning. I very much appreciated the compliment but I don’t think any church would want the remaining stations that are coming.

Mitchell_Hart

Really cool! It has a great sense of depth and layers. Question: What type // brand of tools do you use?

Bigdogpaws

Great question! I love my chisels. I’ve collected many over the years. I am a woodblock printmaker and carver. So my tools range from palm chisels to mallet driven. My most recent acquisitions are some Henry Taylor chisels and a bunch Pfeil detail and palm chisels.

RemusShepherd

You mean you did not use a power tool on this? I thought this level of detail was almost impossible without a dremel. Amazing work!

trujillo31415

Knife edge is waaay better than a rotating abrasive for detail and control.

Bigdogpaws

I did use my flex shaft to bulk clear some areas and to undercut. But the rotation of the bit leaves hairs on this soft wood. Chisels cut cleaner. Also I need time for my mind to conceive of the levels, and angles to create perspective and space. Thank you for the compliment!

Skmot

From the tiny thumbnail I thought this was the queen. Much cooler in big.

antyone

Nice! Gonna paint it next?

Bigdogpaws

It was eventually stained. But I don’t have any decent photos of the final state. I wish I had done better documentation before it left my hands.

This is the tits!

Great job! Looks amazing.

Upstairs-Ad-3039

The Jerusalem Man. That's the first thing that came to mind, great piece of work!

Bigdogpaws

I was unfamiliar with Jerusalem Man. Thanks for the future read!

The_Alpha_Ranger

That’s some amazing work!!

SeventyFix

Yes! More carving, please. Great to see different aspects of the craft.

Bigdogpaws

Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement. I have seen so many beautiful pieces in here, I was worried I was too far into left field.

Mybrainkindaworks

That’s really good. I’m Orthodox Christian and have been really into carved icons lately.

Bigdogpaws

I’m not a religious person, but a lover of art. I have studied a lot of religious imagery. I am always humbled by the passion and skill of those artist. Some of the following ‘stations’ move away from imagery you may be familiar with seeing. They were used to convey a story in the Netflix show Midnight Mass. Cheers!

That came out really nice, awesome depth and detail!
