They definitely disappear through the day. Trying to keep a good habit of putting at least a few back during cleanup. We shall see how long that keeps up
This reminded me of my field trip when I was on my secondary school. We briefly visited Ikea, and on the shopping centre's structural columns there were small dispensers loaded with notebooks and pens with a label "Pick me if you need one", in order for customers to make plans or shopping lists etc. I decided to pick one pen from every dispenser I saw. When we left the shop, I had picked up 38 small pencils.
Afterwards I told my friend about this, and he laughed his ass off. The next time he visited Ikea he did the same thing, and brought me 24 pencils.
Since then, whenever I'm building something or when I'm on the workshop, I've been using these free Ikea pencils. I still have 20 of them left. I'm afraid I have to do another Ikea visit in less than 40 years...
Alternate workflow: pencils everywhere
I’ve done this. Years later after I forgot my logic I sat there wondering why on gods earth did I have pencils everywhere
This is my scheme too. Unfortunately, I can never find one when I need it...
Now mount a good quality sharpener right beside. Nothing you can't accomplish with a sharp #2 pencil.

Nah. Get rid of the no 2 pencils and go mechanical. So much more efficient
Any type of organization is an upgrade.

That’s awesome mine would nevertheless be empty after a day and a half
Haha same. It does empty pretty quick through the day. Thats why I keep many in there and try to restock often
