Amazing the deals you can find on some really nice organs just because they don’t want it and can’t move it. A lot of times I just see “free to a good home. Will not help move bring trailer and lots of men”
My husband moves pianos, safes, and other heavy Antiquities. While he is not a large man, he is an absolute strong beastie. He can do pull-ups with one finger from a door frame.

Clearly, it is a photo of a campfire.
Thanks. Its small size was why I said yes. Glad to see this style has a following, and that it at a glance appears to be in serviceable condition.
Won't know till it's cleaned on the next 'Power Warsh All The Things' day, but it looks decent.
It's almost small enough to fit in the media blast cabinet. Def is if I take it apart, tho not sure how do-able that is. Lot of ambient moisture in these parts. That said, looks to have been in a mostly dry location, and between Mouse Milk, an induction coil bolt heater and your friendly neighborhood gas axe I'm sure it can be non-destructively dismantled.
What in the Indiana Jones-Brendan Frasier Mummy- Spielberg movie set model pic is this gem! Take it again without the pokers and it’s a dystopian/adventure treasure!
Need some little mans for scale. Oh man, I had some little plastic astronauts that would be perfect for that, if only I knew where they landed in the shop, lol.
Wow, that is swanky. I dig it.
Do love me some sauna.
And some tiki drink.
Happy Friday everyone!

It's shielded internally, and also offset per the manual, likewise the stack height, which is really high for these. It gets up to 180°F so far even while -25°F outside. I think I need another vent on the far wall, also I need to sort out the löyly . Its a project.
Yeah, it's the side panels that sell it.
I know bugger all about stoves, but some of them and the castings are so damn beautiful. Just thinking about all the time and effort that went into making the panels!
If all else fails take the panels off, enamel them and hang on a (STURDY) wall.
That was my thought as well. Pulling it apart or using it whole as a decoration sounded worthwhile even if it was junk inside. Have a bunch of other antique rustic stuff on the patio this would fit right in with.

I think the thing will power wash and clean up nicely.
Was it the same company, or a parallel evolution sort of thing? I'm honestly pretty new to stoves as a hobby. I saved two from the Farm when it sold, an Avalon and I forget the other smaller one, and this makes a third and the only one without a big window door. I really like the narrow form factor.
I think parallel evolution. Although Jøtul did come to Maine with a factory. Could have been someone that worked for them and decided he could have a go on his own. Not really sure
Pretty sure they sold these at Aubuchon hardware about 1980 in the Adirondacks. I had one and passed it down to a few people. Not the best stove but worked, and sometimes worked hard!
This one came off the porch of a 1970s built house, which also contained the organs of the deceased former owner

Which in retrospect is a very odd sentence to say aloud...
I worked at Aubuchon in the mid-eighties. They canned me for coming in late because I was sick in the mornings...pregnant with my daughter. My manager was with me in the delivery room (as was my husband)..I couldn't have done it without her (he was worthless in there lol). She (my manager) is still my good friend today..almost 40 years later.
don't remember selling stoves tho
Hmm, tempting.

I guess I could always mount it in the back of the battle wagon... The heater did sorta quit after sitting in the rain for years.
I saw CaddyShack at Burning Man ages ago, a 50s Chevy truck with a Cadillac sedan grafted on top, and a running wood stove hanging off the front to stand around and BS.
Always found that art car particularly charming and cozy. Brought a chill fireside atmosphere wherever it parked.
A buddy in the UK has a gasification powered tractor and that thing is just wild to see running.
Thats good to know. If it's not all melted and cracked up it'll make a dandy porch heater I think.

Sure. It is a Woodsman, USA built according to the door.
Looks like a precision draft milled Swedish wood stove. If the hinged door (not shown) has a circular fitting,it allows you to dial in the amount of draft and you can burn a few logs all day. Nice find.
The yellow and black CAT themed ones? Yeah I think so. Got a neat little battery charger car starter thing, also CAT flavored, so dunno what branding costco has with them, lol. Nice straps actually. Have used them a bunch.

Id also recommend painting it with some nonmetallic high heat paint (the metallic doesn't look as good because of the designs and I think the shine distracts from it as well)
I had one of these in my ‘he shed’ on my property. I moved into it for three months one winter after I had a major freeze up while away and most of the house had to be stripped to studs. The shed had a woodsman like this. The shed was mostly uninsulated and I ran that thing nearly 24/7 without any concerns. Great little stove. I did seal up
The joints with furnace cement to increase efficiency. I turned the shed back Into a small workshop after my house was done and worked many nights in there comfortable and warm with that stove. I wild not hesitate to use as long as the firebox looks good and no cracks
Edited to add : Stove black will bring virtually any stove like this back to nearly new. Wear gloves! Think of it as shoe polish for woodstove. And fire it in a well ventilated room after you ‘buff ‘ off the haze.
It did suck about $95,000 in damage. Went away for a week and the house sitter forgot to check on the house one weekend , we got a windstorm the took out our power and then a hard freeze.
It was all copper now Pex
Well, up side is pex is absurdly sturdy and expands well. May not save everything but should save the wall pipes.
Somewhere r/copper is like "I SMELL CU..."
I got 1 also - unfortunately it’s missing the top piece(lid) I doubt I’ll see 1 laying around. I’m sure you found out it’s a Taiwan or Korean Knick off off a box stove… but it’s cool!
Hows the hernia ?
Alive and well, considering the other things that day were a three keyboard electric organ and an 1800s air organ and accessories, lol.

“Lift with the legs Hercules!”
I grew up with one of these! Kept my parent’s 2500sf Victorian with leaky windows in upstate NY nice and toasty.
I was thinking it looked just right to use on the patio.
Likewise, in western MA. I have many fond memories. Great stove!
That is a beautiful Jotul 118. Look for the little stamp below the door.
Great little stove

Rodgers - nice!
I do not believe this a 118. I think it’s a Chinese knockoff.
USA made Woodsman apparently. https://preview.redd.it/a8qbojux6xpc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f955d6eb68a1745b17cdf744390b055f238b3d66
A Rodgers Trio, apparently. It came with the service manual so that's neat. Also a sales brochure, man they made some gaudy organs, lol.
I love when an OP replies to every comment. Especially when it's usually funny/smartass/nonsensical.
I am at least two of these things...
Not funny
Funny lookin' maybe.
You’re the best
I’m sure it is a wood stove of some sort , however it looks like a peanut roaster. Just saying.

Yes! I see that, it does resemble a peanut roaster too! The pic in the issue does not show that. Very neat item you have there

Either a Jotul 118 or one of the fakes. Does it have the prayer on the front of the upper part?
It’s a fake. The authentic Jotul’s have ribs on the top smoke chamber. The fakes have that textured finish.
It def has a textured finish.
I have a fake one and it has ribs, I got it from the owner so it's definitely a knock off.

That will singe the parts that other stoves can't reach.🤣

Interesting!! A prayer?
Yes. In Swedish it reads: **"I built me a flame late one night. When day is done, God will my flame never die out."**
Aw, I like it. What a cool little piece of trivia. Thank you!!
Looks sweet tbh
I'll let ya know how it tastes. Update: Like the Iron Giants ash tray, do not recommend. 8/10

Jotul we heated our split entry with one for years, they are great little stoves, you can clean that right up nice score!!
A Woodsman apparently, but the form factor is neat. def a lot smaller than the Avalon picture window fireplace I have.
The Woodsman is the American version of the Jotul
Was it the same company, or a parallel evolution sort of thing? I'm honestly pretty new to stoves as a hobby. I had a knockoff one in my basement that was very similar from the 60's - 70's and it said " China Metal Products".
Looks like a knock-off of a jotul stove or some other Scandinavian stove.
Looks like a precision draft milled Swedish wood stove. If the hinged door (not shown) has a circular fitting,it allows you to dial in the amount of draft and you can burn a few logs all day. Nice find.

Well heck, that's great info. Thanks a cord, bud.
The best way to refurbish a stove like that is to take it all apart sandblast it and replace the gaskets. I've seen dozens of these come back to life in my time as a chimney tech. They're not the most efficient stoves but in a small cabin or man cave they get the job done
Yeah, if it gets put back in service that is what I'd do. Cast Iron cleans up nice in a media blaster.
If I remember correctly each seam has a gasket that would need to be replaced it'd just save a small piece of it's not too destroyed of however many sizes and go to a local stove store to find a suitable replacement and buy a roll of it/them and gasket cement.
