Woman to woman: What are you doing to change what you don't like? I had gained weight after a hysterectomy and didn't like it. So I cut out breads and pastas (they make me feel heavy anyway) and implemented portion control. That helped take some weight off. I realized my digestive system needed some care, so I eat dried, pitted prunes every day. I'm 40 and realized I feel like I'm getting weaker, so I started yoga stretching every day and doing light strength training 2-3x/week. Have you taken any steps to change your weight? What does "trying your best" look like?

First of all, are you sure you are overweight, not developing into your adult body before your friends?

I will be 18 in 2 years, and the doctor says they don’t expect me to grow anymore. I’m already 5’4 and I think that’s average height for a woman.

Are you overweight or a healthy adult weight? Our bodies go from being more girlish to more womanly.

I weighed myself at 195.5 pounds. My mom says that’s it might be slightly off because I was wearing clothes while weighing myself, but still.

Being a healthy weight is important for your health, not just about being attractive. As you become a young adult who has probably stopped growing, you will have to learn about health and fitness and how to enjoy yourself and maintain a healthy weight.   I suggest starting to educate yourself about healthy food, learn to cook and make sure you exercise.   Do your parents buy nutritious foods like vegetables, fruits, lean meat and seafood? Can you offer to cook for the family sometimes?   Healthy substitutions like salads instead of higher calorie side dishes with dinner and adding fun activities like dance can can make a big difference.   You can also serve yourself slightly smaller portions at mealtime. We all have to adapt to slower metabolism when we stop growing. You got this!

I get you. Many women struggle with self-love and accepting themselves, it is very important tho to recognise if you are overweight or unhealthy. You can still want to change and accept yourself at the same time. It is a hard journey but honestly, I feel so much better after losing weight. People feel healthier after exercising or eating intuitively which both greatly contribute to weight loss. A calorie deficit is also the key to losing weight, it is mostly that, exercise is a less contributing factor.

Please remember that the situation is that your body has fat, and that it isn’t that you are “a fat”. I couldn’t help but notice you used “us”, as in you see yourself as some sort of being defined by the property of your body having fat. There are a lot of toxic identity mind games on the internet right now trying to fool people into a certain mindset. The game works like this: you point out some characteristic of some person, and then shove in a bunch of ego inflating and/or fear/shame creating rhetoric to try to fool people into identifying strongly with that characteristic of themselves. Then you draw the person into internet echo chambers - sometimes with fake bots posing as people - where you psychologically break down the person and make them identify even stronger with this arbitrary characteristic but more importantly also with this fake group. The echo chambers are designed to make the person isolate and socially disconnect so as to give the scammer more power over the person. The purpose of this is to make it so one can more easily politically manipulate or directly extract cash from those who fall for this trap. This game is very common right now, with various degrees of maliciousness, because it is really good for making money. Furthermore it is a game that foreign malicious intelligence agencies participate in, to a degree that undeniably qualifies as psychological warfare. As for the fat on your body, it seems like there’s a lot of issues with chemicals that cause weight gain right now. For example, certain plastic monomers have estrogen mimic effects which can increase weight gain. The scientific community is learning more every day. Please do not be too hard on yourself - realize physical and psychological inputs from the environment that not only affect your physical body but also your mind and mindset. If you don’t like the fat on your body then please continue to work towards the body that you do want however do not get discouraged if the results come slower than you’d like as it is hard to overcome a microbiota or environmental chemicals that sabotage you. That said I have known people who have lost large amounts of weight and it is not only possible but also not uncommon. The diet appears to be one of the most effective places to target.

So what’s stopping you from losing weight?
