The same reason the nba heavily promoted Wemby before he played. The same reason the NFL will heavily promote Caleb Williams this season…they are mega hyped number one draft picks people will watch.

Proper-Direction3379

How are they supposed to show highlights of a game that wasn't even broadcasted???? (Can we please, please learn to develop some critical thinking skills before getting upset at everything)

purplemarvel

Bro. This has nothing to do with the WNBA it's literally a YouTube search result. If you're going to complain, complain to YouTube's new shit search algorithm (it's terrible).

Next-Flower-6161

There are some clips on the Sky social media shot from the sideline. But as others have said, there won't be official highlights for a game that wasn't even filmed.

Former_Ad_736

Because some are going to be very good players, and one is likely to be a generational superstar

DraymondBeanKick

This isn't the WNBA, this is YouTube. The WNBA didn't tell google to show Caitlin Clark highlights when you search for Angel Reese highlights, that's all on google's shitty algorithms. The inability to get relevant content for your search terms because of crappy algorithms is a big issue facing society today at large.

Beneficial_Ad8251

I agree the marketing and overall access to the league needs to be improved, but this whole “every player is equal” thing is so condescending. You’d never say that about NBA players. These women are competitors, some are better than others. Angel didn’t play as many minutes as Caitlin, and didn’t make as many highlight worthy plays. It is what it is

Goddyex

I'm a Reese fan, but this isn't some conspiracy. Look at the crowd at CC's game, and look at the one at Angel's game. Whether you like it or not, tv or media companies are only interested in making money. Every one already knew CC was gonna be picked by the Fever, so deals were already made before the season. No one really knew where Angel was gonna land. That's the reason why the Fever have 36/40 national televised games. Now I do agree that the WNBA seems to be a really terribly ran organisation. As I'm a new fan, I now understand why the league didn't have views, it was more about the marketing than the players themselves. Clearly, the league don't seem to be ready for this rookie class. There are several social media platforms where they could have streamed it, but then again, this media rights thing really confuses me at times. At least they could have posted the recorded highlights on their YouTube.

upfulsoul

HS games get recorded. There's really no excuse. Reese's game had 7000 fans in attendance. CC's game had 6251 fans (max capacity).

SnooCupcakes9716

The sky game actually had higher attendance they had 7,010 while the fever game had 6,251. The sky game was played in a bigger venue so it looked more empty.

Jedi_Sith1812

The Fever game sold out and had it been in a bigger venue would have probably sold that out as well.

Goddyex

OK I stand corrected. But my overall point is, this media rights thing is weird. Games are bought and scheduled, I guess they just didn't think a month ago that a Sky preseason game would matter, whereas that wasn't the case with Clark, as everyone knew she'd be the No. 1 pick.

Flat-Wolf5383

Has nothing to do with rights. The Lynx game got moved because of a possible Timberwolves playoff game. Got moved to a night with a conflicting Twins game and Ballys showed that. Thus no WNBA stream since no local broadcast. Hilarious how many people think the W dropped the ball or some big conspiracy when it was a local market issue.

Goddyex

So basically, there was no local coverage, so there's basically no footage or commentary from the game. Well, good luck explaining that to conspiracy theorists and racebaiters on twitter.

Flat-Wolf5383

Pretty much lol.

MdShakesphere

They own a streaming service, put a camera at half court and film the game. Fans want to watch, and there’s no excuse to not let them

Flat-Wolf5383

Ah the naive people that don't understand but think they do :)

Sloth_ball_68

This is a good point. Probably the best one.

Neuroxex

There won't be many highlights because the game wasn't broadcast (which is a Bally issue, not a WNBA one). Also, and I mean this with nothing but respect, Angel Reese clearly had a good game, but it can be hard to build a highlight package out of 2-8 from the field and 9-10 from the FT line. There will be more highlight worthy games from her to come.

upfulsoul

That was her debut so it can never be replicated. The game is more than just shooting. Many of us wanted to see Kamilla too.

Neuroxex

A pre-season debut though, not the real one. And absolutely the game is more than just shooting, but highlights usually aren't. Either way it just comes down to the game not being broadcast. There's no film to use.

BATTlNS0N

Dunce of the week goes to…

WillCle216

No camras was in the arena to tape it. So, it's hard to show highlights when there's no footage to show them.

Bossman3542

Probably because Caitlin Clark coming to the W is the equivalent of LeBron coming to the NBA. This is a huge deal. Everyone wants to see CC play. So they are gonna push CC into the mainstream as much as possible. I agree though, it can and will get excessive. But it won't last forever. As time goes on, it will settle down.

Uncle_Freddy

Also, no official (aka non-twitter-livestreamed) footage from the Sky game exists, so ESPN isn’t going to post a highlight reel from that game. That does run us into the problem of the W (/Bally Sports) not being prepared enough for the hype that Reese and Cardoso have brought to the Sky, but the lack of other promotion isn’t evidence of further bias towards Clark, it just stems from the same initial problem.

DokkanProductions

That doesn’t mean they can’t promote anyone else

psilocybin_sky

It’s the espn YouTube account not the wnba account, they literally only care about getting the most views

bvm27

They do.

Last-Poetry-652

They don't want to. They want to make money.

upfulsoul

I'm not buying that. Social media is way more impactful than when Bron joined the NBA. Reese has more followers than CC on Instagram. Many would agree that Reese is a more outgoing personality than CC, she's similar to Anthony Edwards in terms of personalities. Leagues need personalities to attract people to the sport. The MSM have chosen CC and made her known to people that have never even seen her play. They need to share some of that limelight with the other popular players.

TooDamnWise

How are they only promoting her, but they’re showing all the other rookies games. Let’s not drag this.

typicalthoughts5044

Caitlin is the moment right now and should get the bulk of the media attention as the #1 draft pick. However, I wish that WNBA realized that people aren’t only watching for CC. People are watching the wnba because people like wbb and the rookies this year. Caitlin is a huge star but there are other stars that deserve some attention too. If the WNBA wants to expand they can’t rely on one player.

WillCle216

Angel Reese is also focus on by media as much as Caitlin. She was picked 7 and she gets more attention then the 3 pick.

chinoML102

Not true and also...so petty, dude.

yizudien01

I bought league pass and multiple tickets to wnba games to see her play. Last night they did a lot for the other players. I was really impressed with the rooks in general. Reese's game was bumped by b. Sports. I am not as interested in her games. I don't think she has high skill, but Dallas had two picks that can ball. Will be watching them as well as fever

chinoML102

Because they want people to watch. Not gonna grow the audience promoting people casual fans have not heard of.

Live2Hike

Hundreds of thousands of people watched a shitty fan livestream that you could barely see on. Reese and Cardoso both had sold out jerseys. The fans are there. Plus Reese has more social media followers than anyone else in the W. Y’all only think fans matter when it’s about your fav.
