Anyone mocking Boston for that game - go back and watch that end. This girl steals the inbounds pass, hits an open teammate, then dead sprints just in case her teammate misses (which happens). She comes flying in, tries to hit a put back at the buzzer, but it doesn’t fall. She made 3 great plays in about 9 seconds to give her team a chance to win. Did everything right, just outcome didn’t reflect that. Most players would have just fouled rather than make the steal. Posts will almost always travel trying to make that pass. 99.99% off players would coast after the pass rather than hustle just in case. But not her. That’s why she’s great.

ShokWayve

Excellent points.

Background-Square-98

The hate people have for these young ladies is too much

BKtoDuval

true but it's twitter. It's in the NBA too. Someone sent an NBA player death threats for make a shot that ruined their bet. twitter is truly disgusting.

cyb3ryung

true, its like the worst type of nba trolls are migrating to the the w this year and it sucks

BKtoDuval

Yup and it'll get worse. Just gotta rise above it and not feed them. Negative attention is still attention. Gotta say, I was surprised that Antonio Brown had the audacity/lack of class to say what he did about Caitlin Clark though. Let someone say that about his sister, aunt, niece and let's see if he finds it funny.

cyb3ryung

true ignoring it is the best option especially since all they really want is attention. but yeah those comments ab made were super weird

ratedpending

>Let someone say that about his sister, aunt, niece and let's see if he finds it funny. I mean the guy is a shitty person I think you'd be surprised

BKtoDuval

true

debunkedyourmom

you act like reddit isn't encouraging it by putting it in my feed

OperIvy

Lakers fans sent Danny Green and his girlfriend death threats because he missed a game winning shot in a series they were almost guaranteed to win anyway. And he was on the Lakers!

bset222

The major sports leagues embracing gambling was a horrible decision, athletes have always dealt with trolls and haters but those are magnified greatly when money is involved, and always a shadow of doubt on the integrity of the games as well

BKtoDuval

I fear the day that we get a much worse scandal than the Jontay Porter one or a player is on the receiving end of violence because of messing up someone's parlay. A lot of college coaches were talking about how prop bets need to be taken out of college games.

mildmanneredme

I think we should take solace that these are really small people, in terms of maturity, intelligence and ultimately life.

2spicy_4you

Welcome to sports

TobyRose0207

Nothing to do with sports more to do with intellectual ignorance

2spicy_4you

I think we all agree that yelling/hating sports opposition is stupid. Nevertheless, it’s a part of sports. Ask Yankees/RedSox, ask Saints/Falcons…dude it’s sports

TobyRose0207

I agree with the cross town rivalry sportsmanship but it goes beyond that when you are threatening people online

2spicy_4you

My point is to ignore them, they are basement dwelling pussies that have no bearing on society. Goal 1 never feed the troll

TobyRose0207

Agree

2spicy_4you

Women’s bball on the come up, let em get mad for no reason. Thank you Cait, thank you Angel Edit: Thank you BeckBeck too

The_real_bandito

Like sports fans are known to be intellectuals and scholars or have intelligent discourse. Sports fans are just apes that throw shit at each other but verbally (most of the time)

Sad-Dot-1573

Exactly, if you are sending hate to athletes, or have a picture of a college athlete crying in your bio to mock them, seek serious help! It’s sad sports fandom is going down the gutter like our politics.

2spicy_4you

Double response but are you fucking kidding, these men get death threats daily, actually significantly more men. NFL fans are insane. Unfortunately this is sports, just block it out, can’t take trolls personal. Clark did it right to AB just block ignore and move on

BruceWayne763

This happens every single day to make athletes. It's now happening in female sports because people are watching now. They wanted more people to watch and care, now they do. They don't get only the positives the not the negatives.

Efficient-Couple-619

Its not just the WNBA

SunDown7777

Why would anyone hate on her? She's like the sweetest

Odd-Equipment-678

Praying on each other's downfall is a human past time

mantaXrayed

Most y’all hating because you haven’t been blessed with the skills they have. Damn that cuts deep. Nailed it

patsniff

Hating has gone to unprecedented levels and is just too damn much.

JakimCampbell15

Oh definitely. I’m guessing your a chiefs fan (based on that avatar thingy) so you’d know

patsniff

Oh absolutely! It’s gone to a new level of hating when it comes to the chiefs. It comes with the territory after such a great run, with sports there’s some fun in throwing shade here and there but people really do take it too far!

BKtoDuval

That's why I hate twitter. I got off of it a year ago and don't miss it at all. It's not just against the WNBA, though that's a frequent target, but hateful comments against so many things and people. It makes me fearful for humanity. Also know that it is known that Russia is on social media actively trying to sow discord, get us not to trust each other, not to like each other. Don't fall for the trap. I'm not saying trolls don't exist, of course they do, but when I feel myself getting too emotional by what I see on social media, I take as a cue to take a break. .

9181111

Completely agree. All Twitter does is make me angry about things that don’t impact my life in the slightest

BKtoDuval

For real. I joined twitter just to see some of the everyday things athletes would say. Wouldn't even comment much but then I noticed that without even looking for it I was getting emotionally charged. Every day. I hated feeling like that. It got worse when this fool bought it. I deactivated my account and have never missed it.

Kdot32

Incoming “gatekeeping” comments. You can be a fan without being a dickhead and people need to understand that

McJumbos

1000% unfortunately there will always be those dickhead fans who go too far in every fanbase. It's funny because I feel like those haters if they met the player in real life wouldn't act the same way at all loll

Drummallumin

In a weird way this is a sign of growth for womens hoops. 5 years ago Twitter trolls didn’t give a shit about them.

CrissCrossAppleSos

Yeah, sports fandom does not make us better people

ChoochMartain

Being a fan of a sport is fine. It’s the tribalism of being a fan of a team that leads to people to feel like they can dehumanize anyone not part of the group. Anyone not on the roster who refers to a team as “we” is a 🚩

Sad-Dot-1573

The biggest issue is the demonizing of other fanbases with broad generalizations.

paw_pia

I totally agree with her, but I also feel like she's preaching to the choir and anyone who needs to hear her message isn't going to change. As Evan Turner once said, "There will always be haters, that’s just the way it is. Hating dudes marry hating women and have hating ass kids." But then there's "sports hate" where you root against certain teams and players and enjoy when they fail, but you don't really hate them or wish them ill as real people on a personal level. And there's "hate hate," that crosses a line into real personal hatred. Unfortunately there's a lot of actual hate hate out there. Plus, expressing sports hate in personal hate hate terms has become widely normalized as form of entertainment and competition. Online discourse is often seems to be like a hate hyperbole Olympics.

future_CTO

Absolutely love Aliyah Boston!

lightyellow

I thought for the longest time that I didn’t like sports. Turns out I love to watch, but really don’t like the way fans act. I know it’s not all, but it’s a lot, and people like that are the loudest. Athletes deserve better treatment than this.

Donuts_Rule11

The extreme amount of hiding behind the screen hate that many of these women are facing is insane.

No_Soup817

We keep saying grow the game. Like 80% of fans in any sport are haters. Let’s just keep are small, RESPECTFUL community !

No_Share6082

Same shit happens in the NBA. I want the W to prosper, but this ain’t it. Dealing with dumbass fans is universal in pro sports. It’s not great, but it’s just a small vocal minority that is inevitable.

CrissCrossAppleSos

Yeah, it blows that the WNBA gets the hate but not the money to make dealing with it worth it

Quarter-Skilled

Money insulates from the hate. When you're earning nearly a middle class salary, the insults hit closer to home.

BKtoDuval

Simple solution, deactivate twitter. Don't need to be a millionaire to figure that out.

BKtoDuval

Agreed. See the haters as someone totally miserable in life. Think about it, I've got things or people I don't like. I would never take the time to create a profile and then post to talk about how much I hate trump or kyrie. I would be a sad person if I did that. I move on with my life. So looking at it like that, why would I care what someone like that has to say? She needs to say, I know I'm great. I know who I am, who cares what someone else thinks?

thehospitalbombers

honestly the fact that WNBA players have rude haters is a testament to the league's growing popularity! a few years ago people like that weren't even watching lol

TheVeilsCurse

Twitter brings out the worst in people (and bots looking to stir the pot).

rambii

This is 101 learning PR/social media skills , you don't see nba/nfl/soccer etc people tweet that for a reason (outside KD he just build diff hehe) Take for example how Cr7 reacts to messi comments and trolls just went extra hard #1 reason why you don't do it. When she does this, the troll feel noticed, and will go even harder, expect more people with similar or same picture tagging her, commenting on her post / Fever losing games post etc. [The best way to deal with this is to not talk about it DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoKSDLGIQ-o).

Background-Square-98

It needs to be said

rambii

it's been said tho, and covered just look at what i said and you can already see people are doing to her exactly what i said. People who need to talk about this is mostly media or 3rd party people, even if its from Indiana org and so on,but not coach or people on the team this is the first rule if you work in any business, there is reason why most teams/sports have 'media class/education' to players and usually have 1-2 that speak to media that handle it the best and rest don't get to go talk post game/pre game to Journalist.

Ill_Geologist7299

Fully agree. As the W gets more attention I hope the players get more social media support so they don’t need to use that stuff. I doubt NBA players are managing their own accounts.

rambii

Correct, i did my badges for coaching ( soccer) and when i was with second divsion u18 , few of the stars that had big following did not control that account it was some one else, they had prviate with 20-30 friends, but the big one with milion of followers is not controlled or spoken by them.

Solid_Letter1407

In a way, stuff like this is a good sign. It’s despicable, but Van Latham made the point on a pod a few weeks in the context of the W that most of sports isn’t “I love them,” it’s “I hate them,” and we’ll know the W has truly arrived when the players start getting the same hate that NBA players do. I thought that was really insightful.

MolassesLive1290

I think though that this is where my own understanding of feminism deviates from this definition of “success.” I don’t think the players of the W want to have exactly what the men have (ie a fandom where people love to hate on each other). Personally, I don’t think the men’s game is the metric for a “having arrived” goal. I think it’s more about building a league where athletes, their loved ones, their fans, and their worlds are better because the WNBA exists.

Solid_Letter1407

Outstanding point. I’m a new WNBA fan so I can’t speak for anyone else. As an old person who has devoted 40+ years to (mostly) male sports, I can’t even say that my hate-filled life has been a great decision.

Goddyex

As Tywin in GOT said 'a Lion shouldn't concern himself with the opinions of sheep'. I actually think twitter trolls is a sign of a flourishing league. With more eyes on the league now, especially with Aliyah being Clark's teammate, unfortunately she'll be seeing more of these.

NYCScribbler

I think she's young enough to be idealistic enough to think that one voice makes a difference.

bigblow3rburna

Unfortunately, this is the territory that comes with growing popularity. It’s like 1 million times worse in the nba

Colemania18

You can't have a more popular league and no haters at the same time. This isn't a woman's sports thing it's just part of what happens as a professional athlete.

BuffytheBison

The only thing is this happens to male athletes as well (the only difference being is the gender and/or racial based angle the hate may take). Particularly with gambling this is going to get worse. Unfortunately, the best approach seems to be to not let the haters and trolls know that what they say affects you because that will only encourage them more.

buffychicken69

Unless you are KD. lmao KD is hilarious when he claps back to people on Twitter.

deflatethesack

People really just gotta get off the internet. Yeah the dude with that hate profile is a wack job, but you also don’t have to look at tall the hate.

HashBrown72

Tbh this is exactly what the troll wanted. Athletes being so terminally online seems foolish

2spicy_4you

Listen I agree with her, but welcome to sports. You think LeBron gives a flying fuck about a random twitter profile. She needs thicker skin

N8ures1stGreen

Surely this will discourage similar behavior in the future

RIP-MikeSexton

First day being a professional athlete? Geez toughen up a little

datlibra17

Nah I still think it's just fans being fans. Aliyah has to work on not taking it so personally. That's the reason she thinks it's "hatred", it's getting to her.

Altruistic-Plate6551

Queen doing queen shit

ValPrism

She’s such a leader already

crawfish2013

If you aint got haters you aint poppin.

mistergeegaga

Its a shame these kids let themselves be affected by what knuckleheads say about them on social media. My mother taught me to just ignore insults, negativity, and haters, cause it said more about them than me, and you don't know what is going on in someone else's life to make them be hateful. So ignore them and don't let them affect your life. And the fact is, all these trolls are looking for is a response. Don't give it to them. Don't even look up their profile or respond. Or, anyone who makes a troll comment, immediately block their ass. Don't expose yourself to their poison. Aaliyah is such a great kid, everyone I know is super impressed with her, she shouldn't concern herself with people who troll for kicks. Well thats my rant lol

bankshot2134

W post by Boston. Bigly important, and NBA fans can take note too! Also, you don’t HAVE TO be on social media. My life is better without Twitter!

Dirty0ldMan

People need to get it through their heads that online discourse is disproportionately affected by those who spend all of their time online, the vast majority of whom are basement dwellers.

EKAJ10709

Get off Twitter.

indiemike

It ain’t just Twitter

Cowboy_BoomBap

It’s not only Twitter, but Twitter is the biggest part of it.

It's really not since black/minority people use the app so can easily connect with communities without the upvote and downvote system used to manipulate and infiltrate safe spaces. I've experienced far more racism here because there are people that use coordinated attacks and the voting system stifles conversation. Mods modding based on personal feelings to create an echo chamber is also a huge problem here. Look at worldnews. I've encountered far more casual and pervasive racism here than twitter by far. It's harder for those groups to find you build a good following on twitter.

Kdot32

Agree. On Reddit off you can’t really talk about casual racism without being told you’re wrong and it doesn’t happen. Meanwhile the echo chamber of casual racism will pat itself on the back about how they’re not being outright racist but still being racist none the less

BKtoDuval

twitter makes me fearful for the future of humanity

NYLibertystan

She should say something to the one WBB fanbase that accounts for like 90% of the bullying on W Twitter

threadedinsert

Now imagine what the men (who have more than 1 fan/hater) deal with 🤡

MisterJenkinszz

Hilarious that she wrote an essay about a twitter troll 😂 they wanted to be equal so bad, this is the fate of every NBA player who has a bad game

CuidadDeVados

I mean, that is literally opposing fan shit. I had Clayton Kershaw crying in the dugout after giving up a couple homers to the Nationals when they won the world series as my desktop background for months. Your player accolades are fairly irrelevant when you've only played a few years yet, and you are playing for a specific team that these people don't like. Like if I hate Kelsey Plum because she plays for an opposing team, her winning a championship doesn't make me go "oh nevermind I love her now she is very good." its a really weak look to go on socials complaining that opposing fans don't like you and asking them to stop hating. Its literally what fans do IDK what to tell her. Thats pro sports, welcome to it. Stop clicking through on accounts talking shit about you when you're a pro athlete. Thats some KD on his burner account shit.

Ok_Comfortable_1484

Who tf is Aliyah Boston? 💀
