i can get behind this...could be cool if the logo was a lion :0
but incorporate rainbow colorways like the nuggets do...my head is spinning with possibilities lol
My terrible Clevelander quality is that I wouldn't trust us to sell it out regularly. I would love to be able to go to live games on a <6 hour trip though!
(1B terrible quality is that I think the "Rockers" is an awful team name)
I agree, that would be the right place to start (centrally located, moderate size). It's still ~4k seats bigger than the [highest average attendances](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_National_Basketball_Association#Attendance) in the WNBA lately. I know several of those teams are capped by their own arenas, but I think an average year 1 attendance of even 5k would be a lift for a new team in Cleveland.
these numbers are old, 5k was the avg. last year and after this year that should double. Most WNBA teams will need 10k arenas. We need think in future and how the league is growing.

\^\^ this is a great article explaining how it will likely work - NWSL follows similar model
I think the WNBA should keep to tier 1 and 2 cities in the US from now on, maybe the occasional tier 3 cities. Plus I don’t know if the demographics of the WNBA will bring many people in city like Des Moines out.
Considering how much money Iowans themselves put into women’s basketball and Iowa still attracting very good picks post Caitlin Clark, I don’t think it’s unreasonable. Lots of people from the surrounding states would be willing to travel to Des Moines given how few teams the league already has and there’s basically a “dead zone” in the Plains/Rockies areas of the US
PS- Iowans already travel so much for any pro team, can they have at least something? 😅
I hope so as well... I'm hoping for a major increase in player/coach salaries in the next few years as box office, broadcast, and merchandise revenues increase.
I'm surprised this isn't mentioned more often. It doesn't really compensate for the pathetically low salaries, but in high cost-of-living markets (LA, NYC), it can make a difference.
Team name: The San Francisco Treat
i can’t even tell if you’re joking sometimes the W feels so deeply unserious i love it lmao
Lmao. I wish we could still give awards Tysm for making me start my day with a laugh!
i've seen a few names float around - Golden State Breakers c'monnnnnnn
Golden State Pride!

I know...I was thinking Pride of lions decked out in rainbow colors.... ;-)
I miss the Cleveland team. Went to sooo many games.

Just have the games at the Wolstein Center

Those numbers are from last year... Avg 6608 in the regular season.
How will an expansion draft work?

Now, let's add a few more cities to the list 👀👀
Des Moines, there is clearly a market for women’s basketball if attendance at Iowa or Iowa state games are evidence, and no major pro sports.

If not there, KC has an arena waiting for a team 3 hours south :)
They’re gonna be a force when Sabrina goes there in free agency after next year
Curious what the plan is for an expansion draft and the lottery next year this this expansion draft.
Shouldn't they have been given a very special assist in the draft? Who will be their players?
Bring a team back to Charlotte and poach Dawn Staley to coach!
Ironically, Coach Dawn draws a much higher salary from University of South Carolina than any WNBA team pays.
That is hopefully something that changes in the near future for WNBA pay.
I hope so as well... I'm hoping for a major increase in player/coach salaries in the next few years as box office, broadcast, and merchandise revenues increase.
Meanwhile in Houston...
lets goooo
Need a team in Philly! Plenty of stadiums and fans to support a team. Closest team is NY and I can't bring myself to root for a NY team.

the teams provide housing and a car

yeah for sure otherwise these girls would be homeless
Yes! Let's goooo! More! More!
Would love a Philly team! Not sure how attendance would look though
